Partner Violence and Emotionally Focused Therapy
Partner Violence and Emotionally Focused Therapy Fighting for love
Jef Slootmaeckers & Lieven Migerode
Concrete manual for therapists and caretakers Honest answers to situations that are difficult to discuss With cases and practical examples
Partner violence sometimes presents a difficult situation for therapists and social workers. It seems difficult to understand that couples get into a spiral of violence, but still love each other. How can couples regain control of what is happening? How do you help people to preserve their love whilst securing their relationship at the same time?
This book shows that the vast majority of partner violence is linked to love, and is rather about getting estranged from each other than about a power struggle between two partners. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment theory, and concrete methods and cases, it provides a comprehensive and practical guide for relationship therapists and anyone dealing with the matter.
Jef Slootmaeckers is a social assistant, contextual systems therapist and certified EFT therapist and supervisor. For years he has been working exclusively on partner violence and has been giving training at home and abroad. In addition to his private practice, he is affiliated with various training institutions. Lieven Migerode is a certified EFT therapist, supervisor and trainer. He is founder and chairman of EFT Belgium. He works as a clinical psychologist, relationship and family therapist, is a recognized trainer in the Belgian Association for Relationship and Family Therapy and System Counseling.
