Whether you are a new student employee of The Egg or are already further along your path as a student director, this guide will help you set a pathway that will lead you to your preferred mastery track and grow your “eggsperience” for leadership. Program Overview

The Path To Eggcellence Each student is given a “Path to Eggcellence Program Overview & Student Guidebook” and welcome packet when onboarding to the program. Inside their folder is an “Eggducation Tracker” for students to fill with egg stickers they earn throughout the program. Along the way, students may work on different projects across agency team areas, attend workshops and complete Egg Academy pathways and courses powered by LinkedIn Learning, among other value-based activities, to fill their folders with as many egg stickers as they desire. Digital badges are also awarded at The Egg Academy (egg.academy), our online learning management system.

Each egg and its iconography represent students’ achievements within the program.

The undergraduate, accelerated and graduate programs conclude when a student has obtained a golden egg representing mastery upon completing an individual or team mastery project and a personal portfolio. This particular egg sticker is required to complete The Egg program.

When joining the program, student interns and employees apply to an area within the agency that falls within their initial skill set. This is their primary job for the agency and their hired track. The student will complete projects for clients and develop professionally within this role. Starting with their first semester—the “incubation semester”—we onboard our students and offer supplemental education through The Egg Academy and experiential learning to bring them up to speed in their core area.

Each semester afterward, we encourage the exploration of different pathways in The Egg Academy to find a preferred mastery track or leveling up in a single track.

We also recommend collaborating with other agency areas in guest-track projects utilizing their professional strengths. When students complete three portfoliodocumented projects in their hired track or a guest track, they will be awarded an egg for their folder, signifying they have achieved at least a semester within this role or collaborated on projects within the agency to develop a broader understanding of this specialty. You can also grow your skills at an introductory level by completing pathways associated with any of the program tracks in The Egg Academy powered

by LinkedIn Learning while maintaining your employee workload. Students can attend workshops, field trips and other semester activities to receive value eggs. Value opportunities are shared in our monthly newsletter.

Program Overview

The Egg, Experiential Learning LEARNING OUTCOMES Students who participate in our four-year (or one- to three-year) accelerated or graduate program will develop creative skill sets holistically through education in various skill tracks as desired, ranging from graphic design to multimedia. Unique projects and experiences tied to those tracks and interdisciplinary work with different student track areas will stimulate team crossover, building a sense of community within The Egg and may pique interest in new areas. Students will develop a creative toolkit and mastery of their chosen skill determined in their pitch track, as well as general marketing and communications knowledge. “EGGSPECTATIONS” OF STUDENT INTERNS AND EMPLOYEES: • Must complete Egg onboarding • Must attend Egg retreats • Must participate in weekly or bi-weekly team meetings • Must add three of your projects to The Egg’s team portfolio (egg.team) to complete your hired track • Must complete an individual or team mastery project • At a minimum, complete your hired track, one related Egg Academy pathway, pitch track and mastery track to graduate from the program *PLEASE NOTE: You must work out any exceptions to the above requirements with your supervisor.

Program Components

Tracks & Teams We offer four program tracks: Art & Design, Web & UX, Content Marketing and Multimedia, which operate as our agency teams. Tracks are specialization areas students pursue as part of our educational program. You are assigned to one of these teams as an employee based on your agency role. Students may be employed in one track but “eggsplore” another for their “eggducational” pursuits.

For example, a student hired as a photographer may choose to work on a design track as a guest in coordination with that area supervisor. Area supervisors must agree to your participation as an area’s bandwidth may be limited. You must complete any necessary training and prerequisites requested to participate and may need to dedicate your time for at least one semester. Some track pathways are for specialization only.

Students choose to pursue their “eggducation” in one of two ways, detailed below: BECOME A GENERALIST • “Eggsplore” as many program tracks as desired, which is up to four tracks.

Pitch a project involving any of the tracks you’ve participated in and pursue a mastery project. Mastery projects for generalists may have lots of specialization crossover.

BECOME A SPECIALIST • Level up in one program track, “eggsperience.” Decide on a project and pursue a mastery track in your specialized field.

To complete a track, students must complete three portfolio-documented projects per semester in a track to receive credit in addition to maintaining the agency role they are employed for, which can sometimes sync up. Students are paid for their time regardless of the assigned project area.

Egg Credits We embody our values by awarding students credits for completing activities in each value area. Students apply for credit for tracks, pathways and values when completed to ensure credit is given and egg stickers and incentives are received.

At The Egg, we kick off our program with a summer or fall retreat. We teach baseline skills to all of our new students and build upon the established skill sets of our previous program year students with specialized courses and projects targeted to help them grow from where they left off.

We typically hold weekly or bi-weekly, hired track-based team meetings from the beginning of the semester.

Our fall value activities and workshop offerings are in full swing by December and January. We recommend various workshops and marketing and communications development opportunities as part of our educational offering, often utilizing campus partners such as the Student Multimedia Design Center and many other partners. We encourage our students to complete the dedicated pathways for each program track using The Egg Academy and many one-off courses to help them on their journey to master a communication and marketing skill of their choosing powered by Linkedin Learning.

In September, our students are prepared to continue the program and become familiar with one another.

From there, we start diving into our Asana project management system for project assignments.

We encourage cross-disciplinary projects and campaigns to enable students across many specialties to collaborate on guest tracks. In a guest track, students will work on up to three portfolio-documented projects in another agency specialty using their strengths while maintaining their hired roles workload as available. We also host team-building activities, socials and field trips during this time to build friendships, break the ice and stimulate impromptu creative opportunities.

We engage our students who opt in during the Winter Session by working with them on specialized projects.

Sometimes, these projects align with a more robust mastery project or are assigned based on departmental priorities, student group needs or the student’s general interest in a particular subject. The sky’s the limit during winter as we bunker down during the cold weather and explore our creativity one project at a time. Winter projects and internships, travel or leadership opportunities are another great way to utilize this time.

In the spring, we roll out new activities and value workshop offerings utilizing campus partners and other resources again in our monthly newsletter. This time, the content is more advanced as our students have progressed in the fall. Strategically planned workshops, professional and career-focused field trips and adventures just for inspiration keep our team motivated and view the world with new and unique perspectives. The goal is for our students to see what’s out there professionally and creatively.

Our graduating students complete a half- or year-long mastery project to round out our year. Mastery projects comprise all the skills developed in our program, and students continually draw upon many areas and specialties to complete them. These projects are individual or team efforts and often serve a student organization.

When finished, we document them in The Egg’s portfolio. Project participants also lead a presentation to our team, among other guests, relevant to the particular project’s content to complete the program. Again, summer projects or internships, travel or leadership opportunities are another great way to utilize this time if you are continuing on in the program.

GRAPHIC DESIGN — The Egg graphic designers are responsible for creating flyers, posters, digital displays, social media assets and so much more. Our design team comprises highly talented UD students and professionals who work in individual and collaborative capacities to create high-quality designs for our clients and increase their conceptual and technical design skills.

ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN — Focusing on spatial and interaction design (IxD), this professional and student team works in unison to create large-format artwork, signage and exhibitions to enhance human experiences and interactions within spaces at UD. This group is a subset of the graphic design team. It works closely with the UX, web and technology team to enhance our common areas with clever physical and digital signage, artwork and branding.

WEB AND UX DESIGN — The web and UX design team is responsible for creating, designing, developing and maintaining Student Life-affiliated websites. Our team is a group of highly talented UD students who work in both an individual and collaborative environment while learning and discovering more about the broad range of user experience, web development, and design.

UX RESEARCH — Our UX researchers help deliver the best possible experience for the users of our websites by studying and gathering data on students’ needs and behaviors. UX researchers use qualitative and quantitative research methods such as usability studies, surveys, interviews and focus groups.

ANALYTICS — The marketing and analytics team is responsible for tracking, reporting and analyzing the performance of our marketing activities. This team uses a combination of Google Analytics, social media insights and email newsletter data to inform decisionmaking and provide actionable insights that will enhance our marketing efforts.

Content Marketing {Track} This team comprises storytellers, journalists and marketers experienced in handling various media types and ensuring they reach a broad audience via online channels.

Members of this team are proficient in marketing UD events online and writing clear and concise articles and copy for various clientele. Members work with many students from the art, design and multimedia teams to develop content for the @udstudents Instagram and Threads accounts, as well as our Student Life blog and email newsletters.

Multimedia {Track} PHOTOGRAPHY Our photographers are proficient in multiple areas of photography and have consistently captured the highlights of UD campuswide. Our photography team is a group of students who learn from each other and develop their skills through a constant flow of event shoots and projects.

VIDEOGRAPHY & MOTION GRAPHICS The video team is responsible for telling the stories of the various areas of Student Life through high-quality, compelling videos. This team is trained in filming and editing and prides itself in capturing the campus experience through its videos.

The Egg Academy helps students discover their passion on a tailored Path to Eggcellence or grow and strengthen their skills with individual courses curated by The Egg professional staff. We’ve gathered the best resources the internet offers and compiled them in one place with a thoughtful organization to take students from beginners in any agency-related skill to heroes. Students can track their progress, feel a part of The Egg community and gain fun badges and accolades along the way.

PATHS TO EGGCELLENCE Learning paths are curated playlists of video courses and resources that track students’ progress on their way to skill mastery. The Egg program paths explore the creative skills needed for career tracks within The Egg agency. Each path includes multiple courses taught by different expert instructors across the web to teach various skills on that track and offer useful resources students can reference repeatedly.

Egg Portfolio [egg.team]

The Egg portfolio captures all the great work our professional staff and student team complete for our clients, typically Student Life departments and student groups. It also documents our program graduates’ mastery projects and serves as a space to entice new clients.

This platform also helps us showcase our projects for submission in competitions like the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Steal This Idea competition and other annual opportunities and competitions to become nationally recognized and gain award-winning work.

Eggquipment

Our equipment inventory regularly grows to fulfill projects for Student Life departments and student groups and also to meet the needs of our growing student team. Check Cheqroom frequently since this inventory changes often. Mastery Presentation Guide

To complete your participation in The Egg program, you are required to complete a Mastery Project. Below are the presentation recommendations for that project.
