Damarley Barrett is a first generation college student. His mother sent him to the states in 2018 for a better education. The distance between him and his mother motivates him to go above and beyond when it comes to his education. Damarley is currently a senior at James Hillhouse High School. His enthusiasm for learning has helped him to earn a 4.2 GPA and is ranked #7 of his senior class. Damarley’s favorite subject is math. In the future, he plans on working in the engineering or finance field with hopes of becoming a CEO of an electrical company. Additionally, Damarley is a passionate and hardworking leader in the JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) program. He has been a part of this program since he was a freshman and has earned his way up to becoming the highest ranking cadet. His biggest accomplishment is being selected for both the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. During his time being a counselor at LEAP (Leadership Education & Athletics in Partnership), a non-profit organization, Damarley realized that he loves to help others. This caused him to challenge himself more, which led him to go through lifeguard training and now he is a lifeguard at LEAP.
