En busca de enormes mercados como México Y Estados Unidos

nivision y Televisa cerraron una histórica unión para competir con Netflix y otras plataformas similares. En una combinación de activos millonarios las preguntas son ¿en qué tiempo lograrán alcanzar y superar a Netflix? Y ¿cuáles son las estrategias? Porque ambos gigantes tienen importantes dificultades: los hispanos que viven en Estados Unidos ya no están interesados en los mismos contenidos, especialmente las nuevas generaciones; y la televisora mexicana atraviesa una etapa de reestructuración.

Sumado a lo anterior, está la caída de la inversión publicitaria. Pero hay más. Son más de 45 años manteniéndonos como una de las empresas más importantes del doblaje en América Latina, y ahora, ingresa al selecto grupo del doblaje mundial. Acabo de recibir la invitación para unirme a Entertainment Globalization Association (EGA), el principal gremio del doblaje mundial con base en Los Ángeles. Es un gran orgullo para nosotros ahora ser miembros y, posicionar a Colombia como uno de los principales centros de doblaje al español por nuestro trabajo en Bogotá y ciudad de México, así como al inglés en Miami y al portugués en Sao Paulo y Río de Janeiro. ¿Cuántas horas producen al año?

One of the most important newspapers in Colombia, Vanguardia, recently had one of the great Colombian filmmakers in its great headline: “Gustavo Nieto Roa: in the big leagues of world dubbing”, a title that we repeat.

What does this headline that has been read by millions of people in Colombia and other parts of the world in its digital version mean to you?

For more than 45 years, we have been one of the most important dubbing companies in Latin America, and now, it has entered the select group of world dubbing. I just received an invitation to join the Entertainment Globalization Association (EGA), the leading global dubbing guild based in Los Angeles.

It is a great pride for us now to be members and to position Colombia as one of the main Spanish dubbing centers for our work in Bogotá and Mexico City, as well as English in Miami and Portuguese in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

How many hours do you produce per year?

With our studios we produce more than three thousand hours of dubbing a year into English, Spanish and Portuguese, including films, television series, documentaries, cartoons, and video games for the main television channels in the world, film production companies and different streaming platforms.

And in short, throughout the history of Centauro Comunicaciones, how many hours?

More than two million hours of different productions, in a dubbing and subtitling industry that moved in the last year 2.784 million dollars. Today we are one of the most important dubbing studios in the world and the only one in Colombia, accredited with the prestigious Netflix company dubbing and audio description post-production seal for the blind.

l escritor argentino, Enrique “Kike” Torres comienza esta entrevista con TVMAS hablando de “la hija de Dios”, su más reciente miniserie producida en Los Ángeles y fue la primera pieza para su canal de Youtube: Soapy series. “La idea nació hace 30 años, cuando mi esposa Anabella y yo estuvimos en tratamientos para lograr un embarazo. Lo conseguimos y tuvimos a nuestro hijo, Lucas. Me interesé por el “embarazo partenogenético” y el resultado es esta serie que escribí con Miguel Ángel Vega. Son diez capítulos de diez minutos narrando una historia muy controversial. Está protagonizada por Jaime Aymerich, Anibal Silveyra, Fabiana Pascali y un gran elenco. Grabamos en varias locaciones, en Los Ángeles. En la producción se destacan la iglesia que construyó Anabella Del Boca, en un salón donde no existía nada y la cruz de más de dos metros y el Cristo que luego fue crucificado. “Una verdadera obra de arte” dice muy satisfecho de la directora de arte. La miniserie está disponible gratis en Soapy Series (You Tube) y ha sido vista por un alto número de espectadores. ¿Por qué el regreso de Perla Negra en 20 capítulos?

Fue una de las telenovelas más vendidas en la historia del género. Hace pocas semanas se terminó de emitir, (emisión número veinte) en Italia y convocó una gran audiencia. Eso nos motivó a volver a contarla en 20 capítulos de 15 minutos. ¿Porque en capítulos de 15 minutos?

Si vemos las producciones de Netflix, Amazon y otras OTT, la duración de los capítulos ha bajado notablemente. Casi ningún capítulo supera los 35 minutos y muchos están por debajo de los 30 minutos. Esta nueva versión no es ni mejor ni peor, ni más ni menos, simplemente es nueva, diferente y sorprendente. Tomamos el corazón de la historia y lo hicimos latir al ritmo de la generación Z.

¿Cuáles son los desafíos en esta innovadora versión?

Hay dos desafíos importantes. El primero, es que Anna Del Boca, aceptó ponerle piel a un personaje que su mamá hizo muy popular por todo el mundo. Anna hace “su” Perla y estamos seguros de que logrará su propio lugar en las preferencias del público. Por otra parte, Andrea Del Boca se pone en la piel de una villana. Rosalía, el personaje que en la primera versión encarnara María Rosa Gallo, ahora aumenta el nivel de su maldad. Además, Andrea es la encargada de la dirección integral, haciendo su debut en un rol que siempre fue desarrollado por su papá, Nicolás Del Boca. ¿Dónde la están filmando y quienes conforman el elenco?

En diversas locaciones en Buenos Aires y confiamos en poder mostrarla a fines de mayo. Anna y Andrea están acompañadas por un elenco de primeras figuras: Patricia Sosa, Fabián Gianola, Facundo Gambandé y otros estupendos y apasionados actores. Why in chapters of 15 minutes?

Ya traía una trayectoria importante cuando fue parte del equipo de guionistas de Los Simuladores, El Tigre Verón, y la serie Apache: la vida de Carlos Tevez entre otros títulos ¿Cuáles son los desafíos planteados por esta pandemia en materia de creatividad? Especialmente, cuando los esquemas de producción han cambiado y los guiones se tienen que adecuar a estos cambios…

El desafío es tratar de encontrar la inspiración en lugares poco transitados. Por ejemplo, yo me inspiro nadando. En la pandemia, cuando cerraron los clubes, me mataron.

Pero le buscamos la vuelta y la inspiración llega cuando tiene que llegar. En cuanto a los esquemas de producción y la adaptación de los guiones, la verdad es que no lo sufrí, porque no me pidieron que ajuste nada a un esquema de producción o presupuesto en concreto. Al menos, no más de lo que me tiene acostumbrado nuestro medio, la industria. ¿Estas escribiendo solo o tienes un equipo y quiénes son?

Depende. Hay proyectos que los escribo solo, otros, con algún socio/a. En este caso, de la Casaca del 10, lo estoy escribiendo con Andrés Rapoport. Un guionista profesional que llamé para que trabaje conmigo esta maravillosa historia. ¿Como te has preparado para retratar un conocido suceso de un personaje como Maradona? y ¿quién será el actor que podría aportar la fuerza, la vulnerabilidad y la complejidad del personaje, como lo es Maradona?

Para el protagonista hay más de uno capaz de interpretarlo y habría que ver que actores se ajustan al perfil. Es prematuro hablar de eso porque estamos en la etapa del desarrollo.

En cuanto a ¿cómo me preparé? Leí mucho y vi mucho sobre Maradona. En el mundial de México 86, yo tenía 13 años y me acuerdo perfecto de todo, y en especial, del partido contra Inglaterra. ¿Quién no recuerda donde estaba y con quién lo vio? Futbolísticamente,

La serie es una producción de Fremantle y Fabula de Chile para Pantaya y STARZPLAY. Es una coproducción internacional, que podrá verse en Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico por Pantaya y que busca conquistar a la audiencia por televisión y sus aparatos electrónicos tratando de adivinar su desenlace pero a la vez descubrirá el trasfondo de los concursos de belleza que son tradicionales en América Latina.

“Tan cerca en el tiempo como es México en el ‘89, el mundo realmente era otro, había muchas mujeres dando batallas silenciosas y eso es lo que cuenta esta serie”, dijo Puenzo, quien viene de producir “La jauría” de Amazon Prime, que contó con Daniela Vega y Antonia Zegers en los papeles protagónicos.

Cuáles son los cambios más profundos en la producción?

El ingeniero no tuvo dudas en responder “Son muchos, pero, lo que no ha cambiado son las bases.

Explica a TVMAS que las cámaras eran pesadas; hoy su tamaño y peso se redujo, así como hay una mejora en la calidad de imagen. También la tecnología de los drones les da a los productores muchas más opciones de poder hacer tomas áreas sin necesidad de rentar helicópteros. ¿Como era, por poner un ejemplo, cuando trabajaste para Discovery?

Se hacían producciones originales para sus canales latinoamericanos en 1997, se usaban cintas de ¾ y luego betacam digital, todavía no se hacían en HD y el proceso tomaba mucho tiempo. Con tu gran experiencia en la transmisión de eventos en vivo, explica ¿cómo es ahora debido a las tecnologías y a la pandemia?

He tenido la oportunidad de hacer transmisiones del spring training de Beisbol, aquí en el estado de Florida desde 1992 hasta hoy. En 1992 normalmente dentro del truck que transmitía el juego (por ejemplo, los Mets en Port Saint Lucie) en el camión había alrededor de

15 personas, entre el director, su equipo, operadores de audio, de video y de las gráficas, los operadores de video tape para los replays, los ingenieros del camión etc. justamente, hace dos semanas, estuve en la transmisión en vivo de “los cardenales contra los nacionales de Washington” y solamente éramos 3 personas en el camión, dos ingenieros y yo. En el estadio estaban los cinco camarógrafos, el resto,

el director y todo su grupo estaban en Saint Luis Missouri, desde allí le daban las instrucciones a los camarógrafos que estaban físicamente presentes en el estadio, así se transmite también el fútbol, el truck que tiene el control transmite al estudio y a todas las cámaras vía fibra óptica. ¿Lo que significa que es menos costoso producir estos eventos hoy?

Así es. Estas modificaciones en la producción en pandemia ahorran enormes cantidades de dinero a las grandes compañías que producen eventos deportivos en vivo. Lo que sí es clave son los proveedores de banda ancha del internet que se contraten para el sitio de transmisión y, también de los proveedores de fibra óptica.

Tras una carrera brillante en la televisión colombiana, se trasladó a Miami y del 1990 al 1994 trabajó para Telemundo, estuvo en el desaparecido Gems Televisión, y estuvo 11 años en Discovery Latinoamérica. Desde 2016 a la fecha, está trabajando en NBC canal 6 en Miramar Florida en el área de operaciones técnicas como ingeniero de producción y emisión. Continúa brindando asesorías tecnológicas, producción técnica en eventos especiales y da seminarios.

Hace año y medio empezó a estudiar un máster en liderazgo en la ingeniería de sistemas, interesado en todo lo que tiene que ver con la tecnología de la nube. Algo que ya están implementando muchos Networks, especialmente, aquí en Estados Unidos.

acido en La Habana y exiliado, vivió 17 años en Colombia donde obtuvo la residencia de este país cuando trabajaba para varias empresas entre ellas TeVe Cine. Tuvo una academia de actuación y productora independiente con la que escribió, dirigió y produjo el docudrama “Justicia o Ley” y la serie “Auto Stop”. Realizador de varios montajes de teatro. Trabajo con Telecolombia del reconocido productor y empresario, Samuel Duque Rozo y con su hijo Samuel Duque Jr. Allí, dirigió varias telenovelas y series entre ellas, “Retratos”, “El Pasado no perdona”, “Expedientes” y “Unidad Investigativa”. Cuando se convirtió en FoxTelecolombia dirigió “El Capo”, “El Capo 2”, “La Mariposa” entre otras importantes producciones.

Te estableciste en Miami y tienes tu empresa de producciones Vilaplana Films. ¿Qué proyectos estás desarrollando?

Estamos trabajando el proyecto “El caballo” y en un largometraje “El remolcador” inspirado en hechos reales y como marco una historia de amor que escribí junto a Ángel Santiesteban y Ninoska Pérez. Estamos esperando que los inversionistas se interesen para sus realizaciones.

Hablemos sobre “plantados” ¿cómo llegas, de que se trata la historia y quienes conforman el crew y el elenco?

Llego a “plantados” por leyendas del exilio. Conocí a Ángel de Fana y a Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez por el proyecto de docudramas. Ellos junto a otros presos políticos cubanos y junto al también preso plantado, José Pujals Mederos tío del exitoso empresario cubano Leopoldo Fernández Pujals decidieron contar la historia. Se trata de un expreso político que se encuentra en Miami con su torturador, y a partir de allí, comienza la retrospectiva de todo lo que pasó en la prisión con ‘Los plantados’, presos políticos que se enfrentaron al castrismo desde 1959, cuando se dieron cuenta de que iban hacia el comunismo. Muchos fueron encarcelados, otros fusilados, otros murieron en huelga de hambre. El elenco lo conforman, Gilberto Reyes, Roberto Escobar, Frank Eguzquiza, Ricardo Becerra Isabel Morenos, Vivian Ruiz, Gretell Trujillo, Carlos Cruz, entre otros. En la dirección de fotografía traje al colombiano Carlos Andrés Hernández y al camarógrafo Alexander Lesmes. La música la compuso el artista Arturo Sandoval y el sonido Manuel Hernández.

se construye todo bajo la batuta de Guillermo Mediavilla el experimentado director de arte con gran trayectoria en el cine cubano. En general contamos con un crew muy experimentado de varias nacionalidades. Los exteriores los filmamos en Puerto Rico viajamos 35 entre actores y el crew y el rodaje se realizó en 32 dias. ¿Quién está a cargo de la distribución?

En estos momentos la distribuye Spanglish Movies, y tengo material suficiente para realizar una serie de seis capítulos de media hora.

¿Quién financió la película, cuanto costo y cuál fue el tiempo de rodaje? Hablemos de las locaciones y ¿dónde se realizaron las escenas de la cárcel?

Leopoldo Fernández Pujals decidió financiar.

(USD$2,700.000). Ya habían hecho intentos a lo largo de más de 20 años, pero según me cuentan, los guionistas no querían contar la historia como en realidad ocurrió. Hice un trabajo riguroso de investigación y llame al escritor Ángel Santiesteban, también ex - preso político que vive en Cuba. Luego de varias revisiones que hacían Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez, Ángel de Fana, Leopoldo Fernández Pujals y su equipo, decidí incorporar a Juan Manuel Cao, un periodista que también fue preso político y es excelente escritor. Completamos 17 versiones para llegar al guion definitivo. La preproducción la hizo Irasema Otero productora de Vilaplana Films y Carlos Centurion por Centurion Films. Alquilamos un estudio aquí en Miami y construimos la cárcel. Mientras

La película se acaba de estrenar en el Miami Film Festival donde ganó el premio que otorga el público.

“Actualmente está en varias salas de Miami, Tampa, New Jersey, Puerto Rico y República Dominicana. El 21 de abril se estrena en España en el Festival de Barcelona y en Cuba circula de mano en mano con éxito, porque estamos contando lo que ha sido la dictadura castrista y que muchos insisten en llamar “revolución cubana”.

Lilo Vilaplana tiene una enorme trayectoria pasando por empresas como Telemundo, ha dirigido 21 obras de Micro Teatro en Miami. Y el importante empresario español Carlos Vasallo (Canal 41 de Miami) le propuso hacer “Leyendas del Exilio”. “Hicimos la primera y segunda temporada, ya con estos 26 capitulos iniciamos la tercera temporada que está próxima a estrenarse. Hicimos también un guion de Juan Manuel Cao en coproducción de America TeVe y Vilaplana Films”.

Para concluir, dice que los desafíos de un productor independiente son muchos, pero lo mejor es que “no tienes que seguir un discurso oficial, ni someterte a una estética ajena o hacer un filme para complacer a colegas o a críticos. En Vilaplana Films, tenemos nuestra propia manera de contar las historias, con nuestro estilo y nuestra proyección”.

“We filmed the exteriors in Puerto Rico, we traveled 35 between actors and crew, and the filming took place in 32 days.”

Born in Havana and in exile, he lived in Colombia for 17 years where he obtained residency in that country when he worked for various companies including TeVe Cine. He had an independent acting and producer academy with which he wrote, directed, and produced the docudrama “Justicia o Ley” and the series “Auto Stop”. Director of several theater productions. You settled in Miami and you have your production company Vilaplana Films. What projects are you developing?

We are working on the project “El caballo” and on a feature film “El remolcador” inspired by real events within the framework of a love story that I wrote together with Ángel Santiesteban and Ninoska Pérez. We are waiting for investors to be interested in Its realization.

Let’s talk about “Plantados”, how did you get there, what is the story about and who makes up the crew and the cast?

I got to “plantados” by legends of the exile. I met Ángel de Fana and Ernesto Díaz Rodríguez through the docudrama project. They, along with other Cuban political prisoners and the plantados prisoner, José Pujals Mederos, uncle of the successful Cuban businessman Leopoldo Fernández Pujals, decided to tell the story. It is about a former political prisoner who is in Miami with his torturer, and from there, begins the retrospective of everything that happened in the prison with ‘the plantados’, political prisoners who faced Castroism since 1959, when they realized that they were going towards communism. Many were jailed, others shot, others died on hunger strike. It is a forum created in 2009 to offer useful tools to develop dynamic policies and healthy growth in telecommunications. It is a fundamental element to conceive a regulation that generates competition, that guarantees the existence of free access in the sector and that there is a balance between the platforms. We defend freedom of expression and gender equality; we fight against the scourge of piracy and the right and free access to information.

Regarding the latest activities, I must highlight the efforts of our staff, because we continue to carry out the events despite the situation of the pandemic. In August 2020, we began with a participation in Asunción & Bolivia Media Show Online at a table on the lessons learned in regulation and telecommunications during the pandemic, and in which ministers, regulators, and representatives of the OASCITEL participated. Then, in September, we organized the 2020 Digital Summit, a different event and reality. We had a Webinar discussing the role of telecommunications and, to finish, this 2021 we opened with a special participation in Punta Show Online where we gathered at a table the main telecommunications and ICT ministers of the region and the new president of the board of ASIET, Ana Valero.

esde los 10 años, se dio cuenta que hacía cosas muy en serio que otros lo tomaban como juegos: dibujar, cantar, y actuar. Así, comenzó como actor y también a muy temprana edad inició su trabajo en medios y entretenimiento en una brillante carrera que lo ha llevado a escribir, dirigir y producir películas que abarcan varios géneros, cada una de las cuales trata temas legales complejos. ¿Cuál fue tu primera obra, cuál el presupuesto y quién la financió?

Fue un cortometraje de 20 minutos llamado “Noventa”, es la historia de tres cubanos con opiniones encontradas sobre cómo ejecutar un peligroso plan para escapar de la isla comunista y se enfrentan con dos extranjeros en un yate con destino a Miami. El presupuesto oficial fue cero; gastamos 5 mil dólares, pero ganó el mejor cortometraje en el Festival de Cine Independiente de Miami en 2015, entre otros premios.

Las tecnologías han cambiado de manera profunda los esquemas de producción, desde la base incluso de los guiones. ¿Cuál es tu punto de vista?

Yo llamo a esta etapa, la edad digital en la que surgieron nuevas ventanas para ver contenidos como Amazon, Netflix, etc. y mermas en las salas de cine. La pandemia amplificó este fenómeno abriendo oportunidades que no existían para creadores independientes. Por

Hollywood está cambiando y las grandes empresas se han dado cuenta que la inclusión y la diversidad es clave para sus ganancias”. ejemplo, un creador independiente puede crear una serie, subirlo a una plataforma como Youtube, ganar sus propios fans, y luego puede ser descubiertos por una empresa grande. Esto está pasando. Netflix lo hizo con tres programas de creadores que yo conozco personalmente: “Only Girl”, “Daemonium”, y “Gringolandia”. Viacom lo hizo con “Broad City” y HBO lo hizo con “Insecure” y “High Maintenance”.

Otro ejemplo es mi propia serie de acción “The Cell”. La empresa Maverick Entertainment la adquirió en formato de largometraje distribuido como “Rogue Cell”. Este año sale la secuela “Rogue Cell 2: Shadow Warrior”.

Eres un gran experto en derechos intelectuales ¿cuáles son los asuntos álgidos y como proteger los derechos de contenidos tan expuestos a circular en la red?

Un tema importante es el “uso justo” y otro es el robo de ideas. Uso justo es la doctrina estadounidense que permita el uso de ciertos elementos de propiedades intelectuales bajo ciertas circunstancias limitadas. Para productores independientes este concepto suele ser difícil de navegar, ya que uno nunca sabe cuándo un proyecto supuestamente independiente se convierte en “dependiente” porque una empresa desea adquirirlo y programarlo. Por otro lado, el robo es constante.

Legalmente, no se puede proteger una idea general, sino la implementación de esa idea. Por ejemplo, una película que el tema es un operativo clandestino y el agente se ve y se viste muy bien, no necesariamente se infringe a James Bond.

Pero si la historia es única y también la forma de contarla y es asaltada, hay más detalles para iniciar un caso. Por lo tanto, habrá muchos creadores independientes que ponen su contenido en Youtube o Vimeo y luego una empresa con muchísimo dinero hace una película que tiene semejanzas podría existir un caso. Al final, es un riesgo que hay que tomar para ser descubierto, porque lo que no se ve, no se vende. ¿Qué opinas del cine latinoamericano y de su ansiado ingreso a las grandes canchas de los grandes players?

I call this stage the digital age in which new windows emerged to view content such as Amazon, Netflix, etc. and this has caused losses in movie theaters. The pandemic amplified this phenomenon, opening opportunities for independent creators, which did not exist. For example, an independent creator can create a series, upload it to a platform like YouTube, win their own fans, and then it can be discovered by a large company.

This is happening. Netflix did it with three shows from creators that I know personally: “Only Girl,” “Daemonium,” and “Gringolandia.” Viacom did it with “Broad City” HBO did it with “Insecure” and “High Maintenance”.

Another example is my own action series “The Cell.” It was acquired by Maverick Entertainment in a feature film format distributed as “Rogue Cell.” This year the sequel “Rogue Cell 2: Shadow Warrior” comes out.

You are a great expert in intellectual rights. What are the critical issues and how to protect the rights of content so exposed to circulate in streaming?

One important issue is “fair use”, and another is idea theft. Fair use is the US doctrine that allows the use of certain items of intellectual property under certain limited circumstances. For independent producers, this concept is often difficult to navigate, as one never knows when a supposedly independent project becomes “dependent” because a company wants to acquire and schedule it. On the other hand, theft is constant. Legally, you cannot protect a general idea, but the implementation of that idea. For example, a film that the subject is a clandestine operation, and the agent looks and dresses very well, does not necessarily violate James Bond. But if the story is unique and the way to tell it and is assaulted, there are more details to start a case. Therefore, there will be many independent creators who put their content on YouTube or Vimeo and then a company with a lot of money makes a movie that has similarities there could be a case. In the end, it is a risk that must be taken to be discovered, because what is not seen, is not sold.

Cuando me ofrecieron el Personaje tuve que imaginarme como seria Satanás. Las referencias son muy pocas en el mundo del cine y la televisión, pero a mí me gusta mucho el trabajo de Al Pacino en The Devils Advocate, yo quería evitar caer en un personaje cómico de pastorela, por lo tanto, me di la libertad de imaginarlo muy malicioso, lujurioso, pervertido. ¿Qué significó para ti representar a este personaje tan universal como Dios mismo?

Fue un reto, pero al mismo tiempo muy atractivo ya que los diálogos son excelentes y eso es clave, tener un gran escritor como y productor como Enrique Torres es como si entraras a un gran festín. ¿Cuántos días estuviste en rodaje, cuantas escenas hiciste y que te atrajo de la historia?

Satanás aparece en 8 capítulos de 10 en la primera temporada para la plataforma Soapy TV. Lo que me cautivo fue el reto de crear a este personaje, ya que yo venía de hacer al bueno de Charlie en Betty en New

Mis escenas las filmamos en diferentes locaciones, ya que Anabella del Boca estuvo a cargo del Arte y los sets me encantaron, especialmente donde me tatúan. ¿Tienes nuevos proyectos?

Hay varios en puerta. Estoy estudiando cual sería el mejor personaje. Amo mi trabajo porque crear es muy divertido, pero pongo como prioridad la historia.

What does it mean to you to represent this character as universal as God himself?

It was a challenge, but at the same time incredibly attractive since the dialogues are excellent and that is key, having a great writer and producer like Enrique Torres is as if you were entering a great feast.

How many days were you filming, how many scenes did you do and what attracted you to the story?

Satan appears in 8 chapters of 10 in the first season for the Soapy TV platform. What captivated me was the challenge of creating this character, since I came from doing good Charlie in Betty in New York with Telemundo and this towards a remarkably interesting contrast. We filmed the series in Los Angeles, and it was two weeks of filming. We filmed my scenes in different locations, since Anabella del Boca oversaw the Art and I loved the sets, especially where I was tattooed.

Do you have new projects?

There are several on the doorstep. I am studying who would be the best character. I love my job because creating is a lot of fun, but I put history as a priority.

El 2020 fue año complicado para todos porque la pandemia ha golpeado de forma global. No obstante, es cierto que a la TV paga se le suman sus propios retos, agravados por operar en un sector en continuo cambio. Pero con todo, a Atresmedia Internacional nos ha ido especialmente bien.

Ha sido un año en el que hemos alcanzado importantes acuerdos, que nos permiten seguir creciendo y viene a confirmar el buen tándem que forman los canales lineales y el VOD. Ante estos antecedentes ¿cuáles son las estrategias para crecer este año aun con mayores incertidumbres?

TVMAS entrevistó al autor y guionista de este drama de misterio, el chileno José Ignacio Valenzuela, más conocido como “Chascas”

“Por supuesto que es válido incluir elementos del género telenovela y componentes como el melodrama a este tipo de historias, porque esto las hace complejas y más interesantes”

L

a serie de Netflix de la que todos hablan atrapó a las audiencias desde su estreno y sus 10 capítulos fueron devorados por los suscriptores. Esto hizo que la empresa y máquina de cosechar no solo audiencias, sino también millones de dólares, anunciara la segunda temporada para este mismo año e incluso, con fecha de estreno: el 19 de mayo.

La historia de Alex, un hombre condenado por un crimen que no cometió, es liberado luego de 18 años tras las rejas. Al salir, solo desea vengarse del presunto responsable de la muerte por la cual fue sentenciado.

Las cosas se complican cuando inicia una relación sentimental y descubre que el que creía que era el asesino es inocente y que el asesino y culpable de su desgracia, hábilmente, continua en las sombras. Protagonizada por el actor colombiano Manolo Cardona, Carolina Miranda, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez, Eugenio Siller y Alejandro Nones, entre otros talentosos actores. ¿Cres que la telenovela tiene aún vigencia y que es válido incluir elementos de este género en este tipo de historias?

La telenovela está tan vigente como siempre. La telenovela por el hecho de que su componente principal es el melodrama va a ser siempre un reflejo de la sociedad que la está produciendo. Y claro, las sociedades cada día están más complejas, más exigentes y la telenovela como género tiene que actualizarse e incorporar nuevos elementos dentro de sus historias para evolucionar. Y, por supuesto que es válido incluir este tipo de componentes, como el melodrama en otro tipo de historias, porque las hace más complejas, más interesantes. Prueba de eso es ¿Quién mató a Sara? que, a una estructura clásica policial, yo le agregué un componente melodramático muy poderoso, que la hace aún más atractiva y mucho más digerible, sobre todo para audiencias latinas. ¿Cuál es el tono en que está narrada la historia y a cuáles elementos recurriste? y especialmente ¿En cuales personajes pusiste dichas pinceladas? ¿Hay alguna influencia de La casa de al lado?

El tono general es un thriller melodramático. Ese es el tono en el cual yo escribí esta serie. Teniendo claro que, por un lado, había una trama

Y no es que haya una influencia de La casa de al lado, sino que simplemente comparte junto con ¿Quién mató a Sara? esta combinación de thriller y melodrama que tanto me gusta hacer a mí. ¿Por qué escogiste al director David “Leche” Ruiz, un excelente publicista y experto en videoclips y no, a un director de melodramas, ¿series o un cineasta? Ojo: es una pregunta, porque particularmente, me encantan los trabajos de David…

Yo no elijo a los directores, eso es una decisión que se tomó entre Netflix y Perro Azul, que es la casa productora que llevó a cabo la realización de ¿Quién mató a Sara? Yo no tuve ninguna injerencia, pero si puedo decirte que, haber trabajado con Leche Ruiz, fue un privilegio.

Es un tipazo, gran profesional, es un director absolutamente espectacular que le imprimió una mirada, un ritmo, una velocidad a las escenas que creo, que son parte fundamental del éxito de la serie.

Del 11 de marzo al 23 de mayo RFI lanzó la séptima edición del premio “Reportaje RFI en español”, dirigido a estudiantes de periodismo de menos de 30 años, residentes en América Latina y el Caribe

s una invitación a las facultades de periodismo a presentar un candidato que deberá enviar por e-mail a RFI (premio.reportaje@rfi.fr), entre el 11 de marzo y el 23 de mayo de 2021, un reportaje radiofónico de una duración máxima de 13 minutos, así como una propuesta de reportaje para realizar en París.

El ganador será anunciado el 10 de junio en el contexto de la “Semana de América Latina y El Caribe en Francia”

El jurado integrado por periodistas de RFI se reunirá para designar el mejor trabajo. El nombre del ganador se divulgará en el programa “París América” del 10 de junio de 2021, en el contexto de la Semana de América Latina y el Caribe en Francia.

El premio consiste en una pasantía de cuatro semanas en la redacción en español de RFI en París durante ese período, el ganador podrá realizar el reportaje propuesto.

El año pasado la ganadora fue Laura Alejandra López Pineda, estudiante de la Universidad del Rosario en Bogotá, Colombia, por su reportaje “Unidos en la adversidad: Los latinos de Nueva Jersey durante la pandemia”, sobre la manera como el Covid-19 ha trastornado la vida de la comunidad latina en este Estado del noreste estadounidense. Los miembros del jurado escogieron el reportaje por la adecuación del tema con la actualidad del año, marcado por la campaña electoral estadounidense y la lucha por los derechos de las minorías en ese país.

a idea de crear su empresa, Agosto Global Content, le daba vueltas en la cabeza, desde su salida de TV Azteca de México, empresa a la que fue llamada en el 2004 para complementar el área de programación del Canal 13. Y bajo la administración de Alberto Santini, se convirtió en la directora de desarrollos de novelas.

“Encontrar y desarrollar historias con los equipos de escritores, trabajar al aire el arco de las historias con los productores y supervisar la calidad de las historias en post producción, fue una experiencia maravillosa” dice en esta entrevista con TVMAS, mientras habla de telenovelas como “Cielo Rojo”, “Emperatriz”, “Siempre Tuya”, “Acapulco” y el éxito que tuvo “La Mujer de Judas”. ¿Cuál es el objetivo principal en un ambiente altamente competitivo?

De acuerdo a tu experiencia ¿Cuáles son las necesidades del mercado por regiones? y, concretamente ¿qué están buscando?

Estados Unidos busca historias con diversidad y personajes femeninos fuertes. España, series (thriller y suspenso). Latinoamérica donde los melodramas seriados siguen cautivando audiencias, traerá de nuevo a la telenovela; y la comedia sufre porque el humor es un asunto local.

Juliana afirma que lo que sí es universal es la audiencia, que tiene más control que nunca. “Sabe lo que quiere y cómo lo quiere ver. O pierdes o ganas, con tan solo un click”.

En plena pandemia ¿Cómo has podido sacar adelante tu empresa y estos proyectos?

La pandemia tiene un lado positivo: aprendimos a ser más creativos en como contar historias y en cómo encontrar alternativas para vender contenido.

Le preguntamos sobre los eventos virtuales y dice que “Creo que los eventos virtuales son necesarios para conectarnos en un momento que el networking es más complicado; pero también individualmente, aprendimos a esforzarnos y convocar nuestros propios eventos virtuales para hacer negocios uno a uno y obtener maravillosos resultados con menos inversión”.

What is AGOSTO GLOBAL CONTENT? “We are working on the English adaptation of the Turkish telenovela “Fatmagul;” in the Spanish series “La jefa” “Maldita Esperanza” and the English film by J. Aaron Sanders “The Passenger.”

Juliana Agosto, founder of the company The idea of creating her company, Agosto Global Content, had been going around in her head, since she left TV Azteca de México, a company to which she was called in 2004 to complement the programming area of Channel 13. And under Alberto Santini’s administration, she became the director of novela developments. “Finding and developing stories with the writing teams, working the story arch with the producers and supervising the quality of the stories in post-production, was a wonderful experience,” she says in this interview with TVMAS, while talking about the telenovelas such as “Cielo Rojo”, “Emperatriz”, “Siempre Tuya”, “Acapulco” and the success of “La Mujer de Judas.”

What is the main objective in a highly competitive environment?

We are looking for new, young, and diverse voices.

During a pandemic, how have you been able to carry out your company and these projects?

The pandemic has a positive side: we learned to be more creative in how to tell stories and in how to find alternatives to sell content.

We asked her about virtual events, and she says that “I think that virtual events are necessary to connect us at a time when networking is more complicated; but also, individually, we learned to make an effort and convoke our own virtual events to do business one to one and obtain wonderful results with less investment.”

¿Qué te llevó de nuevo a tu país?

Vine por la pandemia y para que mis hijas aprendan el español. Pero, he descubierto que mi país es el futuro para la producción global. No solo por los grandes estudios y capacidades, sino por el personal técnico experimentado que está aquí. DGCINE está muy comprometido a ayudar a los productores con la ley de incentivos que existe en este país. ¿Cómo has surfeado en la pandemia y que actividades ha tenido tu empresa entre 2020 y este 2021?

Cuando comenzó la pandemia estaba por firmar un contrato con el cual obtendría una plataforma para realizar el evento Omni Cultural TV Fest. (OCTVF), en Los Angeles como cada año. Queríamos tener un canal para nuestros proyectos y productores emergentes. Todo se paró el día que cerraron a Hollywood. Pero descubrimos como hacer nuestro festival con AVATAR e hicimos un exitoso festival que hizo historia. Fue el único evento que utilizó esta tecnología, 14 horas de paneles, screenings, premiación y fiesta VIP. Mi compañía productora Latín Hollywood Films fue contratada para hacer varios proyectos y ahora estoy en preproducción para una serie de espectáculos de comedia Stand -Up de mujeres. Lo haremos en inglés y en español. ¿Qué tipo de contenido estás buscando y cuales consideras que están en auge?

Hemos adquirido proyectos como Chase Hope and Faith, basado en una historia real. El libro se va a lanzar en unos meses y estamos preparando la película. Esperanza y Fe, Sosua, niños de Cristo. Además, de producir comedia nos gusta hacer películas que inspiren. Estoy preparando la tercera edición del evento para noviembre y será virtual por la plataforma STREAMWORLD INNOVATIONS, una compañía sin fines de lucro para el avance de niños en tecnología.

Este Año estaremos anunciando grandes colaboradores. NATPE que es mi asociado junto con mi staff, estamos buscando volver al evento presencial. La Pandemia me inspiró a hacer cosas que nunca pensé que podía hacer. Como decía mi madre, que en paz descanse “No hay mal que por bien no venga”.

I came because of the pandemic and for my daughters to learn Spanish. But I have discovered that my country is the future for global production. Not just because of the great studios and capabilities, but because of the experienced technical staff here. How have you surfed in the pandemic and what activities has your company had between 2020 and 2021?

When the pandemic began, I was about to sign a contract with which would obtain a platform to hold the Omni Cultural TV Fest event. (OCTVF), in Los Angeles like every year. We wanted to have a channel for our emerging projects and producers. Everything stopped the day they closed Hollywood. But we discovered how to make our festival with AVATAR, and we did a successful festival that made history. It was the only event that used this technology, 14 hours of panels, screenings, awards, and VIP party. My Latin production company Hollywood Films was hired to do various projects and I am now in pre-production for a series of Stand-Up women’s comedy shows. We will do it in English and Spanish.

What type of content are you looking for and which ones do you consider to be on the rise?

We have acquired projects like Chase Hope and Faith, based on a true story. The book is going to be released in a few months and we are preparing the movie. Esperanza y Fe, Sosua, children of Christ. In addition to producing comedy, we like to make films that inspire. I am preparing the third edition of the event for November and it will be virtual by the STREAMWORLD INNOVATIONS platform, a non-profit company for the advancement of children in technology.

This year we will be announcing great collaborators. NATPE, who is my associate along with my staff, we seek to return to the face-to-face event. The Pandemic inspired me to do things that I never thought I could do. As my mother said, may she rest in peace “There is no harm that does not come for good.”
