51FNQR celebrates wins During his visit to Sarpeye Barracks last month, Chief of Army Lieutenant General Simon Stuart AO DSC presented awards and promotions to members of Sarpeye (Charlie) Company. Warrant Officer Class Two (WO2) Jim Sebasio and WO2 Andrew Rimmer received promotion as Warrant Officers. WO2 Sebasio has served for more than 40 years in the Army and provides guidance and leadership as the Company Uncle and Cultural Liaison. WO2 Rimmer, the Company Sergeant Major, has served for almost 20 years. Patrolman Ces Whap was promoted to Lance Corporal and will take leadership alongside the Patrol Commander within the unit. Corporal Joseph Blanco was awarded The Soldier’s Medallion for exemplary service and dedication as a Patrol Commander. And a number of others were presented with the Australian Operational Service Medal for their involvement and service during Operation RESOLUTE. It was a proud moment for everyone and extra special for WO2 Sebasio and
LCPL Whap, who were joined by family for the occasion.
51FNQR recruits put though their paces The 51st Battalion, Far North Queensland Regiment serves as a Regional Force Surveillance Unit (RFSU). It is responsible for reconnaissance and surveillance tasks in remote regions of Far North Queensland from Cardwell to the Torres Strait, Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf across to the Northern Territory border. The Battalion’s area of responsibility covers some 640,000 square kilometres. A major portion, approximately 30 per cent, of the Battalion’s members are Indigenous Australians, many from isolated Indigenous communities throughout Cape York and the Gulf Country as well the Torres Straits. The 51st FNQR plays an important role in keeping Australia’s borders secure.
