Salties bounce back while Marlins win over BC

The Darwin Salties bounced back strongly in their game against Rockhampton Rockets in the NBL1 North competition, with a convincing 115 to 95 win last Saturday night.
Guard Deba George was great off the bench, scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, shooting five 3 pointers.
Due to commitments with the National Indigenous Basketball Tournament as an
Indigenous Basketball Australia (IBA) ambassador last weekend, centre Nate Jawai had only limited minutes on court.

The previous night
Cairns Marlins defeated Brisbane Capitals, 92 to 86. Guard Curt Ah Wang had a quiet night with 2 points, a rebound and steal.
Coach Kerry Williams would be happy with his team’s performance as they prepared for a threegame road trip to South East Queensland to play Gold Coast (Friday), North Gold Coast
(Saturday) and South West Metro (Sunday).
Townsville teams will also be travelling on a three-game road trip down south to play against Ipswich (Friday), Red City Roar (Saturday) and Logan Thunder (Sunday).
Darwin has a bye this coming weekend.
With the win again
Brisbane Capitals last Saturday night, 102 to 93, Townsville has moved up the ladder to third spot.

TJ Diop’s Gold Coast had a mixed weekend with a loss and a win. They lost by two points, 102 to 100, against Logan Thunder on the buzzer and beat Sunshine Coast
Phoenix, 100 to 71.
TJ had collective total of 16 points and 5 rebounds.
Ipswich and Mackay are the only teams in the men’s competition who haven’t lost a game yet.
In the women’s competition, Cairns Dolphins suffered a heavy loss to Brisbane Capitals, 94 to 73.
They were without Teyahna Bond who had U18 Nationals duties but locals got to see WNBA bound to LA Sparks, guard and captain Shaneice Swain, play 20 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists.
For Brisbane, IBA ambassador Abby Cubillo played an awesome game with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals.

Cubillo and the Capitals continued their good form and got the win against Townsville, 79 to 76.
Townsville guard Indiah Bowyer had 16 points, 4 assists and 3 steals while Cubillo had 10 points 6 rebounds and 8 assists.

South West Metro had two games on the weekend, losing to North Gold Coast by one point – 72 to 71 before bouncing back to win against Ipswich, 86 to 79.
Alana Fraser stats for the two games showed she had 11 points 16 rebounds and 5 assists. At this stage, Darwin Salties and Northside Wizards are the only womens’ teams with no losses.
