Happy New Year to everyone! We made it through 2018 without too many bumps in the road which I am very thankful about. I am looking forward to continuing to build on the positive momentum from last year and make 2019 even more successful. On that note, I am very excited to announce we have found our new Director of Membership & Marketing! Her name is Karyn Yarris and she has been working in the events and marketing industry for over 12 years. She will bring a wealth of experience to El Macero Country Club in an effort to drive new members and at the same time focusing on the reKaryn Yarris tainment of all of our valued members. Karyn has lived in Davis for quite a while and is very familiar with the area and very excited to capitalize on some opportunities we have to build our membership numbers. She starts the week of January 21st and we are very eager to have her join our team. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself to her when she starts. Last month we had a very productive EMCC Improvement Club volunteer day. We had nine members come out and we were able to complete some cleanup of branches and suckers around the course along with re-oiling the teak furniture on the range and benches on the course. Thank you to everyone that came out and keep your eyes open for the date of the next volunteer day.

In addition, the house and wine committees have been working together to find a way to source a display wine cooler for our club wine and need your help. They have found some great looking wine coolers that are ready to be finalized as soon as enough donations are collected. For more information or to donate towards these wine coolers, contact Jim Luna at 916-501-6460.

The new year also brings some milestone anniversaries I’d like to recognize: PROPRIETARY GOLF MEMBERS: Roger & Audrey Henley- 15 years Guneet and Bubbly Bajwa- 10 years Patrick and Mary Gibbons- 5 years Jeremy and Kristen Higgins- 1 year SOCIAL MEMBERS Henry & Lenore Spoto- 40 years Dale & Mary Ann Harper- 15 years Dino & Sarah Ricci- 1 year I look forward to seeing the longevity of other milestone anniversaries this year! Join us on Tuesday, January 22, for our next Bingo Night starting by 5:45pm through 7:30pm (you can join us even if you can’t make it by 5:45pm). Put it on your calendars as yours truly will be calling the numbers. All ages are welcome to attend and I hope we can have some big turnouts this year.

Once again, happy new year to all and I look forward to see you around the club, -Rusty Seymour General Manager

Food and Beverage Update Happy New Year! 2018 was chalk full of fun and excitement and we only hope to keep the ball rolling into 2019. The New Dinner Menu launched a couple weeks ago and we have had some great reviews. Try the Rack of Lamb and the Osso Bucco. The 3 day Clubhouse closure in January gives our team an opportunity for some much needed deep cleaning and in depth service training. The Snack Bar will remain open during those days for anyone who is looking for a bite to eat or drink. Channan and her team will be happy to take care of you! Member Events Recap We were blessed to hear the incredible performance of the Davis High School Madrigal Choir at our Madrigal Dinner. 28 members and guests attended to start off the holiday season. We cannot wait to have them back next year. The Ladies Fashion Show was one for the books. The focus was on the show and thanks to the work of Roberto Sequiera, the social committee and all of the member models, we’ve been told many times that this was the best Fashion Show we’ve hosted. 92 attend the event and I can’t wait to see that number jump up in 2019. There were 101 artistic contractors who beautified their brown cook homes at the Ginger Bread House Event. The evening was full of sweets and a wonderful magic show to top off the evening. One would think the event was just for the young ones, however there were a couple couples who came childless and joined in the festivities. Santa once again stopped by our Club to take pictures for the Santa Brunch. This time he took all the children’s letters home and wrote them back before Christmas. I’m sure all of our 191 guests were on the nice list last year. Hopefully you all stay on this side of the list for when he returns this year. We’ll have the carving and omelet stations ready for him too. The NYE Party was full of big winners, smiles and a lot of wine! Thanks to the playlist choice of DJ Steve Buzzard, the night was a perfect start to what is going to be a great 2019. Thank you to the 46 members who spent their first moments of the new year with us! We look forward to spending this year making more cherished moments like the ones we made that night! -Keith Culley Food & Beverage Director

Indoor Golf Fitness Circuit Training with Kevin Estrella Make 2019 your best golf year ever! Start the year off right by taking care of the most important piece of equipment you own…your body. As many of you are aware, playing golf taps into strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance. At times, people overlook the importance of how your body can positively or negatively affect your game. In an effort to improve some will take lessons, others will purchase new clubs (both of which can be important), but they neglect taking care of their body. In our indoor golf fitness program we will set up circuit training in which you will complete an exercise for approximately 1 minute and then immediately rotate to another. When put together, several exercises make up the ‘circuit’. Each station of the circuit will have 3 levels of the exerciselower impact, medium impact, and higher impact. You can choose which level is the most appropriate for you. This fitness program is designed for anyone looking to improve their golf game and/or health. Please consult with your doctor if you question whether or not you should participate. The circuit training will take place in the banquet room twice per week at least through winter. Space is limited. Sign ups will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Call the golf shop to sign up. Schedule 8:00am – 9:15am Tuesdays & Fridays Program begins January 15, 2019 Cost: $5 per session $15 Full Swing and Short Game Golf Clinics Our popular full swing and short game clinics resume for 2019. Call the golf shop to sign up and join the fun! 1/11 & 1/25, 2:00pm – 3:15pm, Friday Full Swing Clinic 1/12 & 1/26, 2:00pm – 3:15pm, Saturday Short Game Clinic -Kevin Estrella Director of Player Development

December was a mild, fairly dry month for the Davis area compared to prior years. We experienced below average rainfall and made it through the entire month without a frost delay. January has started off much colder with wet weather predicted soon, but hopefully Mother Nature will be as kind in January as she was in December. Thank you for your cooperation and efforts of keeping the carts in the fairways on days that we had requested it. The reason for this direction was simply that the fairways had dried much faster than the rough and had a much better potential to handle the traffic with less damage than the rough. We have been making progress on the dead tree removal and trimming of trees important to the integrity of the golf course, the most noticeable difference will be around the driving range tee and putting green area. The shop and maintenance yard cleanup is progressing nicely and will continue in the coming months. We will plant some native vegetation to the right of hole 3 where we have composted all our collected leaves from the fall and we will seed the area next to the cart path. Bunker rake placement will become more consistent this month as our staff is going to start placing rakes half in and half out of the bunker with the rake head placed in the bunker. The staff will also start placing them on the back side of our bunkers so they do not affect whether or not a rolling golf ball ends up in a bunker. The goal is to keep the rakes in an area where they will have the smallest chance of affecting the outcome of a shot. Please see the picture below for the desired placement. -Joe Cuneo Superintendent
