General Manager's Message Rusty Seymour | General Manager Summer is officially around the corner as we will see our first few consistent days in the 100’s next week. For now, we can definitely enjoy the cooler temperatures this weekend. We hope everyone that came out Monday for Memorial Day had a great time. I would have to say the dunk tank continues to be the most popular activity for the kids and some adults every time. As promised, I will be happy to go into the dunk tank as part of the Fourth of July festivities! :) One really important perk of being a golf member here at El Macero is being part of the Troon family. The guaranteed discounts at both private and daily-fee clubs around the world are unmatched. To be able to even have access to play the large amount of private clubs available in the Troon portfolio is outstanding. You can check out the benefits of being a golf member here along with the applicable rates club by club by clicking HERE. So you are aware, starting August 1 there will be a few changes in Troon Privé rates. The rates to play private Troon clubs have been either $35 or $55 (including cart) based on peak/non-peak time of year for quite some time. The rates will be going up to $55 or $80

The following members are celebrating a milestone anniversary this June:

Proprietary James + Alice Carney | 15 years Gary Nunes + Ashley Michaud | 5 years Justin + Christina Heath | 1 year Sarah + Gary Magana Jr. | 1 year Alfred Faustino + Rose Ann Goodwin | 1 year Thomas + Melissa Lawson | 1 year Young Professional Patrick + Katelynn Raber | 5 years Social Mark + Ginni Davis | 15 years Bob + Sandy Lorber | 15 years Irene Montgomery | 15 years Elena + Dmitry Goncharova | 1 year Patrick Fuller + Ryann Muir | 1 year Tonia + Chris Whitaker | 1 year David + Tiffany Du | 1 year Kale Deibler + Julie Sullivan-Bergman | 1 year Brian + Sarah Benites | 1 year Gregory + Antonia Hirson | 1 year Cherie + Ryan Falvey | 1 year

(still including cart) based on the time of year. Demand for tee times

is still higher than ever and although the rates are going up it is still a great value and the ability to have access to these private courses is a big deal. As a reminder, if you wish to play one of the Troon courses listed on the website, simply find the course in the state by state listing and “Request Tee Time”. You will be asked to provide your membership number, desired date of play, contact details, and number of fellow members or guests. This will automatically email both our staff here at the Club and the professional staff at the club you wish to play to help set up the tee time. I encourage you all to take advantage of the perks of being a member here at El Macero Country Club and the reciprocity programs by being part of the Troon family. If you have any questions on any of this please let me know. Happy Golfing this weekend!

Twilight Golf Winners Linda Lingbloom & Kim Beck | Twilight Golf Co-Chairs There was so much flower power, peace and love at the 60s themed May Twilight Golf event! Another sell out event with a shotgun start at 3:00 pm and the game format was “Roll of the Die” team scramble. One player from the foursome took turns rolling a die to determine which tee box the team played from: A die roll of 1 or 2 (Gold Tee Box), 3 or 4 (Red Tee Box), or 5 or 6 (White Tee Box). The far out foursome 1st place team winners: Front 9 Holes: Taylor and Lauren Lien & Ben and Jessica Mayberry Back 9 Holes: Nils and Anna Sorenson & I-Yeh and Ana Gong The freaky closest to the pin winners: Taylor Lien (Hole 3); Kim Beck and Tim Lien (Hole 7); Tracy Deynze and Kai Ruess (Hole 12); April and Andy Donald (Hole 16). They each received a free appetizer or Casual Saturday Night dinner voucher. The evening’s random drawing winners for foursome golf guest passes went to trippiest winners Donna Prebys (golf passes to Valley Hi Country Club) and Andy Donald (golf passes to Del Rio Country Club). Also, the Dinner/Appetizer Die game’s marvy winners were Shelby Faria and Jeanne Eagan. And let’s not forget, the “Best Dressed” winners who came in their grooviest threads: Tammy TenBroeck, Rochelle Swanson, and Lori and Scott Carpenter. They each received free El Macero golf guest passes. Finally, radiating with so much positivity and groovy flow that evening were the out of this world El Macero staff: Kyle Kircher, Andy Schroeder, Morgan McKinney, Rachel Slusser, Chef Kaharim and the kitchen and service staff. They were outta sight which made the event such a blast! Save the date for our next Twilight Golf event on Friday, June 24 with a shotgun start at 5:00 pm.

Agronomy Ryan MacNair | Superintendent Summer is approaching quickly, and it is very evident that our fairways are loving the temperature changes. The late spring and summer months give us the opportunity to push growth of bermudagrass to its peak potential and is also a great time for newly planted sod to establish. Tee Renovations: Starting June 27, Aspect Landscapes Inc. will begin the tee renovation on Hole 7 and 8. The renovation includes: Stripping and lowering the elevation of each tee complex and forming a 1-teired runway style tee box allowing for more usable teeing area. On hole 7, the tee box will extend further back towards the 17th green adding approximately 10 yards to the back. The forward tees (right of path) will be used as temporary tees during the extent of the project. During our inhouse tee leveling next year, we will consider releveling the forward tee, so it matches the surrounding project. On Hole 8 tee complex, we are including an erosion/stabilization product called Sox. This will help alleviate erosion into our pond. The other thing to note on Hole 8 is the tee box will not only get lowered in elevation but shifted left and back hugging the cart path allowing for a better angle to the fairway and the ability to utilize the entire tee box rather than just the left side like we do currently. A temporary tee will be made in front of the construction area and shorten the hole for the extent of the project and grow in period. Estimated project window is 3-5 weeks. Leading up to this project, our crew will begin renovations inhouse to relevel and surface other tees on the property. The list of in-house tee leveling is as follows: Hole 1- Blue/White/Red

Hole 10- Blue/White/Red

Hole 2- Blue/White/Red

Hole 11- Gold

Hole 3- Red/Gold Hole 4- Blue/White/Red Hole 5- Gold

On July 5, the subcontractor will mobilize and begin laser leveling the demoed tees and regrassing them to a hybrid bermudagrass. This project is estimated to take two (2) weeks, one for the Agronomy staff to strip, and the other for laser leveling and sodding. The timing of these two projects in conjunction with one another makes establishment of these areas much easier. This allows our team to treat any of the new sod at the same time in regard to mowing, fertility, topdressing, etc.

Agronomy Continued... Bunkers: We have all seen the quality and conditions of our bunkers that we have currently. The fabric liner we have is past its life and is time to begin considering and working on a bunker renovation. With the help of the Greens Committee, Board, and Troon, we have began exploring scope and costs of a bunker renovation to take place in the near future. In the meantime, the agronomy staff has started assessing our high traffic greenside bunkers and combatting our liner issue in a few ways. Firstly, our staff is checking depths of sand and moving sand where it is needed within the bunker. Once we have moved sand and evenly dispersed it, we are coming in with additional sand to cover parts of the bunker that have the worst liner intrusion. It is important to note that this is only a temporary fix and not the solution to fixing the liner problem. Sand will still move around as bunkers are raked and liner will eventually migrate up again. You may notice a different shade of sand in the areas we have addressed and eventually it will begin to blend and become less noticeable.

Turf Uniformity: In a constant effort to have uniform playing surfaces, our philosophy starts with a “greens out” mentality. This means that we look at our greens first, then work out from there. We have made multiple applications to our green surrounds that were riddled with cool season grass contamination when I arrived in mid-February. Cleaning up the surrounds from any contamination will help provide a better and more consistent playing surface for everyone. While trying to recapture the bermudagrass in the areas that were contaminated, you may find

areas

that

are

or

where

strategically killed out unwanted species of turf and weeds. During the summer months it is our priority to push and encourage bermudagrass establishment in these areas so they may out-compete cool season competition in the winter and fall months. I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day with the gorgeous weather we’ve been given and I hope to see you around the course soon!

Membership Happenings Karyn Yarris | Membership and Marketing Director Happy Summer to everyone! Things are really heating up (no pun intended) in the membership department. Social member inquiries continue to be very strong and with open wait lists in all categories, I am clearing prospects as soon as I am able to based on activity. Inquiries especially for Social membership have really increased this past month with lots of people moving into the Davis and El Macero area. It has also been a very busy month for outside community engagement events. Morgan and I participated in the Sacramento Wedding Expo last month (see photo) which was very successful. As a result of the event, Morgan has multiple tours lined up and I am certain she will secure some new weddings for 2023! As I type this we are getting ready to head out to Community Park in Davis to participate in Celebrate Davis! After several years off due to COVID, the event is back and we are thrilled to have a booth out there! I hope you all enjoy a June filled with lots of fun and sun at the Club!

The theme was “The Greatest Show on Turf” and featured circus décor and treats. Jacqueline Gray’s team won first place and Natalie Beckman’s team took third place. On May 17 the Niner’s hosted their Swing into Spring event with guests from the El Macero Women’s Golf Group. As event chairperson, Catherine Buscaglia created a memorable golf tournament and luncheon. First place for the Ladybug Flight were Trudy Defelice, Kim Beck, and Kathryn Jaeger. The first-place team for the Tulip Flight were Jacqueline Gray, Kim Lien, Lisa Qvistgaard, and Rosalind Tyson. Overall winners were Bonnie Plummer, Nancy Tate, Nancy Stephenson, and Nicole Biggart. The Niners have been busy preparing for Team Play which begins June 9. Teams are being formed and markers are being trained.

Women's Golf Group (WGG) Diane Kavrell (Captain) and Nancy Maul (Co-Captain) Happy June! Summer is almost here and that means more and more golf. Here is what WGG has done in the last 4 weeks. We recently completed our Handicap Tournament which is always a fun event. It is a match play format and after our stroke play qualifying round, we are flighted and then the matches continue over 3 playdays. It is single elimination with a consolation flight for the "non-winners"... how about that for political correctness. We had 2 flights. Championship Flight Winner - Pat English 1st Flight Winner - Kathryn Jaeger Consolation Flight Winner - Laura Pope Karen McIntyre was Medalist overall low net for the qualifying round

On May 26, we had our Memorial Tournament where we pay respect to former members who have passed away. This was a difficult year since we lost two current members who had been very active in WGG. Joan Partain and Kathy DeYoung. Both left us too soon. There was a beautiful celebration and recognition given to all of the six women who we lost this year. A candle on our lunch tables honored their memory. Team Winner of the Memorial Tournament were Kathy Colby, Farideh Sheikholislam, Dinnie Holloway, and Yuki Oshima (left). The low net and gross winners get the privilege of hosting the event next year. Barbara Grant and Eric Capps (right) will have the honor.
