General Manager's Message Rusty Seymour | General Manager Happy Friday to all! Summer is creeping up on us slowly but surely. It is always a busy time of year with graduations, beginning of summer vacations, and hopefully a lot of golf to be played! At least week’s Board of Director’s meeting, the board approved the Membership Committee’s recommendation to elect Nancy and Lou Montfort as official Honorary Members of El Macero Country Club! The Montfort's have been members nearly 56 years and Lou was instrumental in building The Oaks condos. Over the years Lou was a huge advocate of junior golf and proudly sponsors the annual Lou Montfort Junior Duck Tournament. Lou turns 100 years old this September and I can’t think of a better way to honor him and his lovely wife, Nancy, as Honorary Members! They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life and I feel privileged just to know them. When you see them out walking around or joining us for lunch please help me in congratulating them.

The following members are celebrating a milestone anniversary this May: Proprietary Thomas & Milbourne Mowery | 20 years Richard & Valerie Carrie | 15 years David & Kim Rue | 15 years Kevin & Gaelyn Kelly | 10 years Michael Thomas & Sally Harmsworth | 5 years Rocko & Kristin DeLuca | 1 year Joseph & Suzanne Riehl | 1 year Chris Shuler & Martin Madelena | 1 year Amrith & Sara Gunasekara | 1 year Heidi & John Arnold | 1 year Paul & Nancy Dommes | 1 year Jason & Maren Heise | 1 year Sean & Lynsey Provost | 1 year Emeritus J. Last Sunday we had our first ever Bubbles En Blanc event in which all Elite members as part of our Loyalty Rewards Program were invited. There were over 50 in attendance and were able to enjoy some live music, drinks, and food. Impressively, nearly everyone dressed in proper white attire! Thank you to all of our Elite members for your extra support of EMCC.

General Manager's Message Continued...

The search is active for our new Food & Beverage Director to replace Keith. We are fortunate to have Joe Bann join us last week as our Interim Food & Beverage Director until we find the right candidate. Joe brings a wealth of experience with him and has already made a big impact in the last week. Say hello and introduce yourself when you see him.

Have a great Mother's Day weekend!

Twilight Golf Winners Linda Lingbloom & Kim Beck Cheery, colorful and bright was the theme and mood to kick off the Club’s first Twilight Golf event

of

the

year.

Golfers

donned

their

brightest and most colorful golf attire to play a fun scramble game of “Three Clubs and a Putter.” Even the signature beverage and delicious dinner menu were on par with the event’s theme: the on-course specialty Mai Tai’s personally delivered and served by Keith and Rusty were a vibrant red and orange, the tri-tip with a green chimichurri salsa as well as the fresh and ripe papaya and watermelon in the mixed green salad. First Place Winners on the Front 9 were April and Andy Donald and Scott and Lori Carpenter First Place Winners on the Back 9 were Paula and Richard White and David and Luke Ferrick The closest to the pin winners were Ana Gong (Hole #3), Mike Mullin (Hole #7), Ginger Bertero (Hole #12), and Rob Gebhard (Hole #16). Finally, many kudos to Rusty, Rachel, Keith, Morgan, Chef Kaharim, Willie, Andy, Tyler and Kyle for helping to make our first Twilight Golf of 2022 such a huge success! Be sure to SAVE the DATE for our next 60’s themed May Twilight golf event on May 22!

Agronomy Ryan MacNair | Superintendent May is here and summer is right around the corner. In preparation for growing season, the agronomy team has started fertilizing the bermudagrass fairways course wide. The timing of this slow-release fertilizer is crucial as it gives the plant a kickstart before it starts chugging in mid-June/July. If applied too early (close to dormancy), growth potential is lost as the plant cannot not utilize and absorb all the nutrients. If applied late, you risk rapid release of nutrients to the plant and begin to grow too quickly which can cause scalping and the need for early chemical plant growth regulation. In the next week we should be complete with our fertilizer application, but you may notice areas of the bermudagrass that have been skipped by a mower for a day or two. If the coating on the fertilizer pellets is mechanically damaged by a mower, the potential risk of a rapid release is increased. So, we are extra cautious and ensure the fertilizer is as deep into the canopy as possible before taking a mower to it. While you are out playing, you may notice alternating colored pin flags lining the fairways and blue hash marks near greens. These indicate to our fertilizer applicators where to spread and where push spreaders meet our bigger tractor propelled spreader to ensure the most even spread of fertilizer possible. Based off the history of the ponds and retention basins on property,

clarity,

cleanliness,

and

formation

are

nuisances. This year, the agronomy team will be “diving deeper” into pond maintenance and assessing the best way to combat the problematic algae that has already presented itself this year. It will only get worse as the months get hotter and we’d like to be proactive in our maintenance approach rather than reactive. We have consulted with a pond maintenance company that will be testing our water for various factors that

contribute to algae formation and begin building a maintenance program to keep our waters in check. Not only will we investigate chemical and physical removal of algae, but also explore costs for dredging, liners, and aerator installations to help the stagnant bodies of water become easier to manage. There are a total of eight shotgun tournaments this month and as a reminder that course care daily is crucial and even more important during these events. Please be mindful of the golfer behind you and fill your divots, repair your ball marks, pick up your broken tees, and if you can’t find your mark or tee, pick up 3 others. Everyone’s help goes a long way in helping keep our course clean and presentable. “Leave the course better than you found it.” There is some nice weather forecasted ahead and I look forward to seeing you around the course!

If you haven’t had a chance to meet him yet, Joe Bann, our Interim Food & Beverage Director started last week. He is going to be a big help during diner service! Membership Happenings Karyn Yarris | Membership and Marketing Director Wow, has it ever been a busy few months in the Membership department. As I mentioned last month, we were seeing record numbers of new Social members and as I expected we have now SOLD OUT in the social membership category. The good news is that we do have an open wait list so if you do know someone that is interested in either Golf or Social membership, feel free to send them my way and I would be happy to assist them in securing a position on the wait list. I am excited to announce the roll out of our brand new 2022 Membership Directory! Inside the directory you will find a welcome message from your GM Rusty, our Golf and Social Calendar and lots of helpful information for all membership categories! The Directories are available now to pick up in either the Pro Shop or the Front Office. To ensure that every member who wants one receives it, please limit it to one per membership. Let’s take a moment to meet and welcome just a few of our newest members to the club!

Niner's Kathy Magrino (Captain) + Karen Roth (Co-Captain) The Niners have four game days each year that are themed scrambles with special rules and fun variations. The April 12th game day had a floral theme that was evident in golf outfits and cart decorations. Congratulations to the April game day first place winners: Linda Lingbloom, Nancy McDonough, Kim Lien, and Karen Fouts. Trudy DeFelice, Jacqueline Gray, and Catherine Buscaglia tied for second place with Bonnie Plummer, Madeleine Warner, Cathy Raycraft, and Mimi McMahon. The Niners cheer spirit award went to Lisa Qvistgaard. On April 21st, six El Macero Country Club Niners attended the Rancho Murieta Country Club Niners Invitational. The theme was Hawaiian Par-Tee. With 100% chance of rain forecasted many registered players chose not to play. Despite the wet conditions, the EMCC Niners did well – Mayet Reina was on the first-place team and everyone won raffle prizes and took home orchids as tee prizes.
