Your Leadership Legacy
Stop SecondGuessing Yourself! Recalibrate your 2023 Goals
Creating Balance between Preserving Motivation and Achieving Results
Why do you sometimes feel committed to a certain decision or path forward, only to pause to second-guess yourself? Does it happen often or perhaps when there is something important at stake? It isn’t harmful if it happens infrequently, but if it gets in the way of something significant, it can be an issue.
Each experience and outcome we go through shapes the inputs to our future decisions. These experiences are meant to shape our thinking in the future – must we must learn to incorporate these lessons in a meaningful way.
When I work with clients who have faced important crossroads in their business, they were unhappy when they allowed someone else to sway them from their own “intuition” on a critical issue. This reflection has paved the way for them to remain committed to “listening to their gut”.
Take a moment to check in with yourself when you have something important to consider. Try to draw upon your experiences and resist getting caught up in the moment –unless something is a total “Hell, Yes!” right away.
As a woman in business, you have a unique set of skills and experiences that shape how you approach your own business. When you start appreciating and honoring what got you here, you can learn to trust your own instincts. You also develop thick skin when it comes to listening to feedback. You must take it with a grain of salt while checking in with yourself to see if you have any “nagging” thoughts on the issue at hand. These ”nagging” thoughts come from your subconscious and deserve a place in your decision-making process.
“When you have an idea or approach that continues to pop up among other options – that’s your intuition talking. Learn to follow it…”
Tina
As a leader, do you struggle with keeping your team members motivated while still holding on to high standards for performance and outcomes? If so, welcome to the club!
When you have important things to get done and stretch goals to be met, it is normal to want to push your team harder. This push can feel intimidating to some, particularly if you normally don’t intervene in projects or initiatives.
Employee motivation really comes from them, but as a leader, you have a role as well. When an employee can sense and understand their individual contributions to success, you have a greater chance to preserve that motivation.
You can’t always answer their question, “What’s in it for me?”. However, realize that question is top of mind for them. Employees want to understand how they can make a difference - not very different from what you want!
You will probably never have every team member as “all in”, however, if you get your key players to articulate their engagement and enthusiasm, they can hopefully bring other along in a positive way.
Keep these tips in mind the next time you are kicking off an important initiative.

How would you describe your Leadership today?
How would those who work for you describe it?
Leadership is a lifelong quest. We work to become more effective, more comfortable in our own skin, and more confident in our ability to influence others.
It is helpful to assess your leadership effectiveness. Do you get the results you want and need? Do others like working with you? Are those who work with you growing their skills?
Don’t shy away from planning to take steps to improve. It can be such a rewarding experience. And don’t forget to celebrate where you are!
Your leadership may have been a result of growing into it based on greater and greater levels of responsibility OR it could have been expanded through focused leadership development training or research on your part. Either way, your leadership is constantly evolving.
As I think about a Leadership Legacy, I am reminded of past leaders with whom I had the pleasure to serve.
above what I believed about myself.
A great leader sees potential and finds ways to unlock it in others.
A great leader offers helpful feedback without destroying the confidence of the intended recipient.
A great leader is content to work with someone who has great potential beyond their current role EVEN IF they will not be able to retain them long term.
I am drawn to memories of things I learned from them, the way they challenged me to be better, and how their perception of me was far
What do you want your leadership legacy to be? I can give you some insights on a complimentary targeted call. Book it HERE
• REVISIT YOUR GOALS AFTER JUNE RESULTS ARE IN: You will want to see where you are before making any suggestions/decisions.
• DECIDE IF YOU ARE AHEAD OR BEHIND ON EACH GOAL: Are you ahead of schedule or results on some goals, and behind on others?
• CONSIDER IF YOU WILL ADJUST TARGETS: Were the targets appropriate and/or can you make up the lost ground on the ones that are lagging in results? If you are way ahead of the target at this stage in your review, was the target enough of a stretch?
• CRAFT YOUR MESSAGE FOR SHARING WITH THE TEAM: Highlight the accomplishments and provide context for the items that were less than stellar. Keep negative feedback associated with individuals contained in individual follow-up conversations.
• REVIEW EXPECTATIONS FOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Recalibrate and share expectations with the team in ways that will foster collaboration and teamwork to help meet goals within the next six months.
• OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE NECESSARY: Ensure that the team members have what they need to accomplish the goals and targets. Don’t let illegitimate excuses get in the way – only consider legitimate observations for action if you are so inclined.
Your Leadership Legacy should be something important to you and a professional goal. It revolves around caring, respect, and trust.
Your intuition is strong! Part of the challenge is simply recognizing when it is happening and incorporating it into your decision-making. Learn to trust it!
