Celebrating our 1st Anniversary! 04

One Year as a Digital Magazine!

What a ride it’s been! The past twelve months have gone by so quickly, it’s hard to believe that we are already celebrating a year since we relaunched as a digital magazine We’re very humbled by the response that we have received from the community, and it brings us immense joy to know that we are bringing an important connection to our local community

It’s been a year of learning curves, overcoming hurdles, and learning how to do things on the fly I am always up for a challenge and love growing alongside of the publication I’ve been incredibly lucky to meet so many wonderful members of our local community who pour their hearts and souls into their businesses and who are so passionate about making a difference in the lives of others We really are blessed to not only live in a beautiful part of the world, but are also surrounded by caring, compassionate people too!

What started as a hobby to bring information to our community has taken on a life of its own and extended into community events, a lending library, and the Giving Fund Our inaugural Walk for Wellbeing was held in October last year in support of Queensland Mental Health Week and we had over 120 participants join us for a leisurely walk from Farnborough Beach to Kemp Hill, stopping for a rest pause at Ross Creek, morning tea at Lammermoor Beach and finishing off with a barbecue at Kemp Hill It was incredible to watch the walkers and see connections and friendships form along the way! We’ll be doing it all again this year on Sunday 16th October with an earlier start of 6am.

Our Lending Library continues to grow as we continue to receive regular donations of spiritual, self-help, health and wellbeing books and oracle cards. We now have approximately 200 items to choose from. If you are having a clean out, and have items to donate, we’d love to take them off your hands. Please send us an email or private message on social media. We are still seeking a permanent space to house the library until we are in a position to afford an actual home for The Hub Capricorn Coast. In the meantime, we will be locking in some regular dates and locations for borrowing items.

05

The Giving Fund received more than $1000 worth of donations since its inception. The structure of The Giving Fund is currently under review to ensure that we are able to assist those who have fallen on hard times and are needing a little support and nurturing to move through. Thank you to the generosity of our local businesses who have provided donations in the form of classes, passes and other. Your generosity is invaluable.

The next twelve months is set to be just as exciting as the last have been. We have lots of new ideas and concepts to share with you. It’s our goal to have a live website to house all of our information in the one place by the end of 2023!

Once again, thank you for your support over the past twelve months. We look forward to continuing to keep you connected to our local wellbeing community and events.

Candles Keep the Creative Flame Burning for Rebecca

When she first started her small business to share her craft with the community, Rebecca Martin owner of Carnation Candles had no idea where it would lead her. Seeing people’s faces light up when they see her products bring her happiness and joy.

A qualified personal trainer and boxing coach, Rebecca had just opened her own studio 4 months before covid hit and sent everyone into lockdown This was a scary time for herself and her husband who are both selfemployed After the lockdowns ended, it wasn’t viable to continue running the studio and she had to come up with something that she could do from home to keep costs down

Carnation Candles specialises in novelty dessert candles, bath and body products The candles are 100% soy wax and she is often told that they look too good to burn! Believing that life is too short to not do something nice for yourself she encourages her customers to absolutely light them Inspired by a saying that she once heard, she imparts with others that if you always wait for a special occasion to use your favourite perfume or wear your favourite dress, that day may never come Being alive is a special occasion. Live it to the fullest.

09

You will often find Rebecca’s stall set up at local markets across the coast where you can view the vast array of dessert candles and other products on offer. Her website www.carnationcandles.com shows the full range and customers can purchase directly from here with free pick up in Rockhampton.

Carnation Candles holds exclusive giveaways and discounts approximately once a month to email subscribers. The signup link to receive her monthly news can be found on her website. Be sure to follow Carnation Candles on Facebook and Instagram so that you can see Rebecca’s latest creations!

The Autonomic Nervous System

The autonomic nervous system (ANS) plays a crucial role in regulating many of the body's internal functions, including heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. It also plays a role in the body's response to stress and pain. Shifting the ANS before treatment can help improve the outcome of treatment for musculoskeletal issues.

Musculoskeletal issues, such as back pain, neck pain, or osteoarthritis, can be caused by a variety of factors, including physical injury, inflammation, and stress. Pain and discomfort associated with these conditions can be debilitating and affect quality of life Treatment of musculoskeletal issues often focuses mostly or wholly on treating the problem area rather than taking a holistic view.

By shifting the ANS before treatment, therapists can help prepare the body for healing and improve the effectiveness of treatment This can be accomplished through various techniques, such as slow breathing, applying red light to the base of the neck, or stimulating certain acupuncture points These techniques can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and reduces stress When the body is in a relaxed state, it is better able to respond to treatment. For example, physical therapy may be more effective when the mind and body are more relaxed.

17

Moreover, the ANS can influence the immune system's response to musculoskeletal conditions. The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is responsible for the "fight-or-flight" response to stress, which can result in increased inflammation and pain. In contrast, the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) promotes relaxation and reduces inflammation, which can aid in healing. Shifting the ANS towards the PNS can help reduce inflammation and pain, and improve the immune system's response to injury.

In addition, relaxation techniques can also help manage the emotional and psychological aspects of musculoskeletal issues. Stress and anxiety can exacerbate pain and delay healing. Promoting relaxation and reducing stress can help clients better cope with the emotional and psychological impact of their condition.

In summary, shifting the ANS before treatment can help improve the outcome of treatment for musculoskeletal issues By promoting relaxation, reducing stress and inflammation, and improving immune system function, clinicians can help prepare the body for healing and improve the effectiveness of treatment This approach offers a more holistic and comprehensive approach to treating musculoskeletal issues and may lead to better longterm outcomes for clients '

LIFE COACH, MINDSET COACH

What are the differences?

A life coach and a Mindset coach are both professionals who help individuals set and achieve personal and professional goals. However, the main difference between the two is the focus of their work.

A life coach typically focuses on helping clients improve specific areas of their lives, such as career, relationships, and personal development. They may work with individuals to set and achieve goals, overcome obstacles, and make positive changes in their lives.

A Mindset coach, on the other hand, focuses on helping clients make deeper, more profound changes in their lives. This may include helping individuals to identify and transform limiting beliefs, patterns of behavior, and other internal barriers that may be preventing them from achieving their goals. They may also work with clients to help them discover their purpose and live a more authentic and fulfilling life.

What is the purpose of mindset coaching?

Mindset coaching is a form of coaching that helps a person identify the blocks and behaviors that stop them from being the ultimate version of

themselves. It helps people overcome these mental blocks and achieve their goals.

What are the outcomes of mindset coaching?

It allows you to look within yourself and identify the best course of action for yourself to take. It empowers you to make your own decisions about your life. the right mindset coach can make transform you into a growthoriented person who is in charge of their own life and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

What is the value of coaching mindset?

Leadership with a coaching mindset is about creating an environment that fosters growth and development for both the team and the individual. As a leader with a coaching mindset, you focus on helping your team

19

members to reach their personal goals while also developing their skills.

What are 4 key benefits of coaching? Benefits of Coaching

Establish and take action towards achieving goals.

Become more self-reliant. Gain more job and life satisfaction. Contribute more effectively to the team and the organization.

Take greater responsibility and accountability for actions and commitments.

A life coach is a type of wellness professional who helps people make progress in their lives in order to attain greater fulfillment. Life coaches aid their clients in improving their relationships, careers, and day-to-day lives

Life coaches can help you clarify your goals, identify the obstacles holding you back, and then come up with strategies for overcoming each obstacle By creating these strategies, life coaches target your unique skills and gifts By helping you to make the most of your strengths, life coaches provide the support you need to achieve longlasting change

In summary, a life coach is more focused on achieving specific goals and making positive changes in some areas of life, whilst a Mindset coach is more focused on helping clients make deep and lasting changes in their lives, and discover their purpose.

Everything is a Vibration - Part 2

We live our lives based on stories. These stories can be simple through to complex, painful and consuming They are the glue that holds our lives together and yet they are also the very thing that is holding us back from authentic freedom.

For that reason I am not going to take you back into the actual context of my story except to say it was painful and consuming for many years, as I navigated my way through. It was my pain that drove me to create the '‘Freedom to BE’' program and it was my despair of not being able to create sustainable financial freedom that pushed me to create the '‘Money Mastery’' a fasttrack process to identify blocks around money It was my confusion and a very specific question to the Universe that brought into being this, my latest book. And yet for all the creative endeavours, I was also missing the mark as far as marketing I was following my passion doing what I love – except I not getting big results the 'gurus' hailed from moun tops as possible. A friend recently said to me 'Jan-Marie, your duty to take this work out into the world – the world needs what you have created.' At the time my response was, hmmmm, I don't really care, I am over it cannot create in love, fun and passion a share that, then it is not worth sharing, is not of Oneness, the Divine Source

it from my ego personality

Therefore, I wait and I allow Sometimes that takes days, weeks and even years The one thing I have learnt is to let go and not force anything, that everything is in Divine Timing, it may not be mine I certainly wanted to move faster –however when the right time comes, I wake in the early hours with it all forming in my head. It is just a simple matter of turning on the computer and allowing the stream of information to appear on the page Each time I do this I am told it is inspired writing and that is what I choose to do. If I cannot be inspired to write and share then it is not worth sharing. Over the years I have come to understand that everything is a vibration That

21

vibration has a frequency and a tone and when we are sitting right in the centre of our own 'Creative Force' the idea, the information, the voice, the writing or artwork, whatever it is – is pure; it is of a heart vibration – it truly authentic [A clue – if you are in the story be it your own, or a clients then you are in a lower vibration ]

When we are deeply grounded within our own Creative Force vibration people can HEAR it – it is free of any wounding energy. Whenever there is wounding energy people feel defensive around it. A defensive response means they put up a wall, they shut off, they turn off and away because it is reminding them that they have unresolved issues within that are painful and uncomfortable and they don’t want to go there. Time has sped up and we need to get real and understand that in life we will be challenged; our emotions will come to the surface unexpectedly and challenge us and our relationships and money will come and go UNTIL we move right into the vibration where life does flow with ease.

Jan-Marie is the author of Thrive in Business and Life. The Creator of the Freedom to BE program which releases emotional stress in (4) minutes and the Money Mastery a fasttrack process to identify money blocks and to unlock unlimited flow. www.JanMarieBrooke.com.au

Introspective Hypnosis

When someone says the word hypnosis do you conjure up that you have no control or that you associate it with stage hypnosis where the audience does silly things?

Introspective hypnosis is not stage hypnosis. It is a legitimate method of therapy developed in South America and combines clinical hypnosis, past life regression, forgiveness therapy, role change and spiritual assistance. It’s a very flexible method and can adapt to the requirements of a client.

It’s based on finding the origin or psychosomatic symptoms or problems in this life or a past one. It works with the subconscious in finding when or where they originated.

I was taught by Alba Weinman and Antonio Sangio, both students of Dolores Cannon and then Aurelio Meja to further their studies in Introspective hypnosis.

Introspective hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation that allows your higher self, guides and angels to chaperon the session

I have clients that visit past lives, be part of other planets, visit heaven, remember situations that have been forgotten, give information to help the world, go to inner earth, go to other dimensions, have ancestors impart knowledge and heal wounds from this life

All sessions are recorded by video so the client can view it at their distraction later Most clients like to keep the sessions private on YouTube. These session are often life changing. Visit YouTube: Hypnosista for clients that have generously shared their session.

July Moon Musings

Your monthly guide to what's happening in the astrological world

July 3rd at 9:39pm AEST brings the Full Moon in the Earth sign of Capricorn at 11 degrees

The Sun has spent a week in the water sign of Cancer and when the Moon reaches 11 Degrees we see our Full moon bring in the polarity of the Capricorn Energy.

While the Sun in Cancer is shining it’s light on the area of home and family, Capricorn speaks more to our purpose, goals and ambition out in the world

As the full moon illuminates the things that have come to fruition, the seeds and intentions set during last months New Moon, This is a great time to let go of the need for approval and any self doubt creeping in that is stopping you from taking the required action towards your goals.

Maybe it is time to redefine what success means to you?

Balance the ambitious, hardworking energy with the soft, nurturing energy of the Sun in Cancer. How is the balance between your home life and your professional life?

Capricorn is encouraging your to consider your responsibilities, your goals and ambitions while making sure you leave time to rest, nurture your inner world so you can thrive in the outer world. It’s time to be the grown up in your story and balance your commitments to both.

The 18th July at 4:32am see the Sun and Moon join hands with the New Moon in the water sign of Cancer

This is an internal energy, a time where the sky is dark and it calls us to go inwards and reflect on our emotional body.

Cancer is ruled by the Moon so this is always a potent energy, where the moon feels at home

As a water sign, Cancer feels things very deeply and can hold a memory of feelings in the physical body too. Think about how you feel in your own body, do you feel safe? Loved? Strong?

Cancer also rules the area of family, home, our roots and our ancestors. Do you feel a sense of belonging in this world?

This New Moon is opposite the planet Pluto and so may add some extra intensity to your emotional realm during this cycle. Pluto brings energy of transformation and depth. This is a strong energy so be gentle with yourself if your emotions feel heightened at this time

Go slow With all this water comes the wisdom of our ancestors and the generations that came before

Take some time to be still and quiet, nurture your own emotions and allow them to flow through and out of your body. This is not the time to hold things in!

25

New Moon -

Sunday the 18th June at 2:37pm AEST see ’ s us welcome the New Moon in our air sign of Gemini. Planting seeds of intention is our focus on the new moon and Gemini rules the mind so very important to pay attention to our thoughts at this time.

Are you speaking to yourself with kindness?

Are you overthinking situations?

How mindful are you being in your daily life?

Gemini is represented by the twins in the zodiac, this polarity brings an energy of adaptability and flow to our life

Gemini gives us permission to change, to learn and evolve Things don’t have to stay the same, YOU don’t have to stay the same Gemini’s ruling planet “Mercury” is also residing in Gemini at the moment so this will bring even more focus to our thought patterns and how we communicate Be wise with your choice of words during this time as our thoughts create our feeling and our feelings become our reality

Neptune will also have some influence over this new moon as it makes a square to the sun and Moon from its ruling sign, Pisces. This may cloud our thoughts a little and add some self doubt to our beliefs

Be sure to up level your self care practice to help with this, journaling may also be wise so you can review the thought patterns and pick up on what is not serving you

Mutable signs of Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius and Pisces will be most impacted by this New Moon Along with those who have strong 3rd house energy

Why saying NO is a game changer.

Burnout and overwhelm are two of the biggest areas of stress and ill health in my clinic. How does this affect the body? This will play out differently for each of us, however, the underlying issues usually start with headaches, inflammation, slowed digestion, gut health, fatigue and brain fog. Each of these acute signs indicates that you are placing your body under excess stress.

From here, the progression is towards more chronic issues such as Irritable Bowel, Adrenal Fatigue, any Autoimmune condition, and unexplained ill health Most people will not connect the years of stress, people pleasing, chasing perfectionism and unresolved grief and trauma as the culprit for their underlying health issues. Suddenly one day they get a diagnosis or find themselves in a cycle of GP appointments, blood tests and despair with no answers………. wondering why this happened and where it came from.

Every time you say yes to something when you don’t really want to, you create stress in the body. It could be food, activities, family events, business ventures or even committees. Each time you are abandoning your internal truth and overriding your sense of peace.

I call this the FOG You are doing things out of FEAR, OBLIGATION and GUILT This creates tension in the body, which we hold in our body and organs such liver, stomach and spleen. It changes our breathing patterns, neural pathways and eventually leads to inflammation and illness.

Sadly, this cannot be fixed with one balance When we are living in a state of constant stress and the body is showing up with these severe signs of distress, we must create a whole new foundation of living. (This was covered in my article last month.) The good news is, it can be reversed with time, patience, good support and lifestyle changes.

One of the biggest changes we can make is learning to say NO How can one little word have such an impact on our health? Easily.

27

However, putting this into place can feel very challenging, especially if you have to say no to someone you love

So, let’s start with the simple no This is a muscle you will need to learn how to flex A simple no involves saying NO to that extra coffee, when you already know you are wired from your morning coffee Have an extra glass of water instead; allow yourself to feel this difference in your body Repeat daily until you notice how much better your feel without the extra stimulation in your body

Say no to an extra project when you know you just don’t have the time By allowing yourself permission to have some free time to relax and unwind you give yourself more time and energy for he things you have already committed to.

Once you get better at self-assessing and making more aligned choices for your personal health, then you can start to look at the bigger no ’ s.

A big no includes saying NO to attending a family picnic with the sibling you cannot be around. Declining a night out with the girls because you know you want to give alcohol a break. Saying no to the friend you meet for coffee who leaves you feeling drained.

It’s not selfish to put yourself first Every time you override your internal systems you create STRESS Repeat after me, IT IS NOT SELFISH TO PUT MYSELF FIRST

Health is wealth The healthier we are the more we can give back to the world around us Doing everything for everyone else is not being of service, it is robbing them of the opportunity to find their internal security and independence Being a people pleaser will not secure anything for you other than ill health

The moral of the story is, to say NO to anything that feels like an obligation This can be anything that makes you feel uncomfortable and you know you will lead to regret, resentment, and frustration afterwards. Instead, say yes to things that make you feel happy, healthy, and more aligned with who you want to be.

If anything in this article makes you feel uncomfortable, frustrated or like this is impossible to achieve……then you have the most no ’ s to implement. YOU are worthy of health and happiness.

28

The Importance of Being Validated

This article follows on from last month

There are also those mothers who try to express their disappointment or grief, but are quickly shut down by comments like, “Well, at least you have a healthy baby.” While it may be true, this type of comment negates the mother’s feelings. Not only that, but it also can create more guilt or shame in the mother as she tries to dismiss her feelings about the birth

It’s okay to be upset if your birth did not go as you had hoped or planned! Take the time to grieve that, but realise that not everyone will understand. It is confusing how such profound joy and grief can coexist, but just knowing this is normal can go a long way in helping you cope and move on!

Why is it Important to Process Your Birth?

I believe that every woman who has given birth, needs to set aside some time to process the experience

Why?

Because our birth experiences leave lasting impressions.

The emotions we feel during birth are real. They are powerful.

They also deeply affect us

When we ignore these emotions or don’t appropriately deal with them, they can negatively affect our emotional well-being or mental state.

When a new mother is given the opportunity to tell her story, process her birth experience and feel validated, understood and affirmed, she is able to more quickly appreciate the experience, heal and grow from it and move on

It’s especially important for a new mother to process her childbirth experience before giving birth again.

This prevents any negative emotions from the previous birth to interfere with the next pregnancy, labor or delivery.

Signs & Symptoms that Your Gut Health Needs Some Love!

"Gut health" looks different on everyone For some people, they experience the "typical" poor gut health symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pains, constipation, diarrhoea, food intolerances, etc While others experience some unusual symptoms that seem unrelated to gut health like acne, eczema, hay fever, hormonal imbalances, sugar cravings, recurrent infections, fatigue, and the list goes on

This is because of the fundamental connections between the gut and brain, gut and skin, gut and immune system, gut and hormones, and so on.

· Reflux or heartburn

· Nausea or vomiting

· Constipation, diarrhoea, irregular or infrequent bowel motions

· Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

· Unexplained weight loss

· Food intolerances

· Low appetite

· Br

“Unusual” but common Signs & Symptoms

Allergies, hay fever or asthma

· Acne, eczema, psoriasis

· Sugar cravings

· Hormonal imbalances

· Anxiety/depression

What about the kids?

Should we include our children in our wedding ceremony?

I rocked up for a wedding rehearsal recently and was greeted by Miss 5, who had a huge grin on her face as she announced: “ we are getting married, this is our wedding!” She was so proud to be the flower girl and lead the way for the bridal party as her mum walked down the aisle to stand beside her dad. The ring bearer was her big brother Mr 8, who did a smashing job of presenting the rings with a flourish. Some beautiful memories and wonderful photos created right there.

But sometimes that’s not quite how it goes. Weddings can be a bit overwhelming for littlies, let’s face it they can be a challenge for some grownups too! And teenagers, well who ever knows how that is going to play out on the day? Deciding the best way to include your children, to make them feel part of this very special moment without loading a heap of expectations and anxious pressure on them takes some forethought and planning You don’t want them to feel left out by not giving them a chance to take on a special role if they want

to it’s a balancing act, for sure I also have quite vivid memories of beautifully dressed Miss 3 who marched, or perhaps stomped is a better word, down the aisle and upended her basket of flower petals, dumping them at her dad’s feet, then continued on behind the wedding arch and sat herself down with her back to all the guests fortunately, her parents knew their best option was to ignore her and they continued right on with ceremony.

Remember, you know your kids better than anyone, so don’t be pressured into trying to make them participate if you can see trouble ahead. Perhaps have a chat with older kids while planning your special day, explain what might happen during the wedding ceremony and also at the reception, and what they might be asked to do to help. Being flexible in your expectations and willing to go with the flow on the day if they change their mind is the key to keeping smiles on everyone ’ s face. For very small ones it’s a good idea to nominate a family member to take charge of them if they get restless, unless you don’t mind having a toddler hanging on at your knees or sitting on the train of your wedding dress as you exchange you vows…. certainly makes for gorgeous photos!

31

Personally, I love to see the excited looks on little faces, the proud smiles as an important task is completed in a ceremony and the embarrassed glances from the teenage kids when their parents declare their love for one another What better life lessons can you offer your children

Next time, lets talk about blending families Looking at ways to involve and include the children is fascinating, so many ideas! As one bride said we could be the Brady Bunch, Leanne! No, on second thoughts we would be the Addams Family!!

If you have questions or ideas about how to include your children on your special day, and keep them smiling- I’d love to hear from you anytime,

Hello fellow wild food foragers, my name is Kimberly and I am the owner of Silver Sage Cottage I study edible plants in our local area for basic survival and fun It’s surprising the amount of wild food, medicine and useful plant resources that are available to us in nature I will be showcasing one, safe, easy to identify, wild edible plant each month I will provide a photo, a common name, a botanical name, some basic information about the plant and a recipe to try I forage and eat the plants showcased and know them to be safe, however I encourage you to do your own research and ensure that you have the correct plant before eating it

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for what you ingest, you are wholly responsible for your own safety If you are unsure, please feel free to contact me for help with identification at Silver Sage Cottage 0498076683

Blackberry Nightshade

This plant is an excellent companion plant for leafy green vegetables in the garden. The bugs love its leaves.

LEAVES: young leaves eaten cooked as a spinach in soups and stews. Take care to only try a small amount first time. They are not the best tasting and contain small amounts of the chemical solanine; the green potato poison This is a suggested sometimes food only

BERRIES: great as a trail side nibble, the very extra ripe, blackest of berries are edible both raw and cooked. They taste much like blueberries and can also be added to pancakes or muffins and used to make delicious jams, jellies and cordials. They are also added to savoury dishes, cheese platters, chutneys, sauces and gravies

GREEN BERRIES POISONOUS. DO NOT EAT

NUTRITION: Vitamins A, C, calcium, iron, riboflavin, niacin, and phosphorous.

MEDICINAL: small doses of the fresh leaf juice can be used to ease pain however there is a side effect of sweating. Leaf juices also used to ease fevers A soothing skin salve can be made with leaves
