SUMMER FUN
With the sunshine and balmy weather, it’s the time of year to get outdoors. You don’t have to travel far for some fresh scenery.
Fernhill Wetlands
Less than 3 miles from us, this park is home to birds, beavers, frogs, and other wildlife. In particular, it provides a resting place for migrating birds and home for resident ones. This time of year, you can find woodpeckers, meadowlarks, sparrows, and herons, among others. The park is a water treatment facility that cleans and naturalizes water before it returns to Tualatin River.
The Water Garden Loop trail is a flat 0.6 miles and ADA accessible with a paved and gravel trail surface. The park also has water fountains, benches, and picnic tables. There are other longer scenic trails too.
You can find more information online at https://fernhillnts.org. The address of the park is 1399 SW Fern Hill Rd, Forest Grove, OR 97116.
Cornelius Water Park
If you are looking for some fun for your furred companion, Cornelius Water Park is an off-leash dog park. It’s a small facility but less than a mile away in the direction of Fred Meyer.
It doesn’t have an address, so here are some directions: Take Davis heading toward Fred Meyer, turn right at 17th Ave, turn left onto Barlow St, and the park is at the end of the street.
Park Flix
Forest Grove’s free movie in the park nights will re-start in August. Events kick off at 7:30pm with the movie starting at dusk (8:15-8:45pm). Free popcorn is available until they run out or bring your own snacks. But no alcohol. Also bring a blanket or low back camping chair to sit in (so you don’t block sight for others).
Upcoming schedule:

Aug 9: An Extremely Goofy Movie
Aug 16: Goonies
Location: Bard Park
2921 22nd Avenue
Forest Grove, OR 97116

IRRIGATION SYSTEM
Our irrigation system is a useful amenity both for conserving water and money and keeping our community green. The water in the irrigation system is drawn off the pond. It is not potable. Please do not feed it to your pet or people. All the nutrients in the pond water are great for plants though.
With the large surface area of the pond, it has a high evaporation rate, especially in the heat of summer. Between everyone watering their yards and natural evaporation, our pond levels go down. We do have some wells that draw water from underground to go back into the pond, but these don’t make up for what is lost.
We ask that you not water any given part of your yard for more than 15 minutes at a time. Our soil is mostly clay and doesn’t absorb much. You might not see it, but excessive watering likely means it’s trickling off into a neighbor’s yard or down the street somewhere.
We want to keep our pond levels from getting too low. Please be aware of water usage and set a timer so it isn’t forgotten. If you spot water that’s been left on too long, please reach out to your neighbor or the office.
To help prevent water loss, we are offering hose timers this year to residents upon request (at no charge, one per home). Please pick it up from the office, but if you are unable, contact me and we’ll work something out. This is a limited time offer while supplies last.
We are happy to provide irrigation water but ask everyone to please be mindful of your usage. Have a sublime summer!
FIRST ICE CREAM SOCIAL
We hope to see you at the ice cream social on July 20th at 1pm! FG Amore will be catering again with their usual awesome fare.
The ice cream will be served with sweet biscuits (strawberry short cake style), macerated berries, fruit, Chantilly crème, chocolate sauce, and powdered sugar. If that’s too much sugar for you, we will have some side dishes too.
Please let me know if you intend to attend no later than July 9th so we know how many to plan for. If we have a bunch of people show up who didn’t sign up, we may have to turn them away. I don’t want to do that, so please RSVP by July 9th. As always, the event is for residents of the community. Bring your sweet tooth!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
1) Paint & Repair: The Paint & Repair Notices expire July 25th. Contact me if you need more time. A big thanks to everyone who has already taken steps to fulfill these notices and sharpen your home!
2) Yard Maintenance: Don’t forget to stay on top of those weeds and mowing. Wanted and unwanted flora loves the sunlight this time of year brings. Most folks in our community are great about this, and your neighbors appreciate your efforts.
3) Pond Activities: Fishing and swimming are not permitted in the pond. If you have guests visit, make sure they are aware.
4) Portable pools: Please do not assemble or fill them on grass since this will kill the grass. Also, please do not leave them out for more than a day or two. This is a health hazard because still water will attract and encourage mosquitos.
Manager’s Sticky Note:
With summer settling in, don’t forget to stay hydrated. If you need to cool off, feel free to come to the clubhouse. There is ice and cold water in the fridge door and cups by the coffee machine. The coffee machine even makes cold coffee; fill a cup with ice from the fridge before selecting the cold coffee option on the machine.
The TVs have cable, and don’t forget the pool table and games downstairs. We have a variety of classic games available from Dominos to Uno. The library has jigsaw puzzles available if you prefer something quieter. Best of all, we keep the building comfortably cool.
The community potluck will be on July 25th. The main dish will be grilled hamburgers and hotdogs. Please bring a dish.
