Miss Merrie Christmas candidates will be introduced at the tree lighting, also. Come and enjoy a fun evening in town like we did in the old days.

Christmas Project 2014 The Dade County Men’s Civic Club are now putting together plans for the 2014 Christmas Gift Program for the less fortunate children of Dade County. We count on the generosity of the community to help fund the cost of the gifts. You have been so kind to us the last several years and do hope that you will continue to help with this charity. There will be approximately 230 children that are in need of our help. We hope to make this a merrier Christmas for them and that some day they will remember that someone did care and that after they are grown, that they will want to ‘pay this help forward.’ Please send your donations to Don Adams, Treasurer, 35 N. State Hwy 39, Greenfield, MO 65661; Scotty Holman, President, 746 College Street, Greenfield, MO 65661; Homer G. Ellis, Vice President, P.O. Box 126, Lockwood, MO 65682 or anyone of the members. There will be drop off boxes at the Dollar General Store in Greenfield as well as at the local banks, where you can leave a new toy if that would be your choice. Thank you, one and all!

He was presented a pin and special award that read: Hospice Compassus We appreciate our veteran, Charles Killingsworth, United States Air Force. Tucson, Arizona. After basic, he was sent to San Francisco and then back to Tucson where he trained as a surgical technician. Afterwards, he spent much of his time assist-

ing in surgeries. He was sent to Illinois for a time and then back to Tucson. He also spent time in Kentucky and Newport, Virginia. Charles spent his last two years of service in

Naples, Italy. When he arrived, they spent much of their time in bomb shelters during the day as they were bombed daily for a while. He was sent to Brazil to fly patients back to the

United States and then after the war, he was sent to St. Louis to be discharged in October of 1945. He came from St. Louis on the train to Springfield and caught a ride to Greenfield with John Marshall Young, who had taken a load of cattle to sell. He then walked the last mile or so home. There were five Killingsworth brothers in service. Truman Killingsworth was killed at the Battle of the Bulge. Charles married his wife, Geneva, in October of 1947 and lived happily for 66 years until she passed away November 30, 2013. Charles will celebrate his 95th birthday on December 29. He would appreciate a card. The address is Charles Killingsworth, 1732 Hillcrest Drive, Carthage, MO 64836.

Old Fashioned Pie Supper A Huge Success

Most lovesick couple, Charles and Darlene Graham By Cle s McConnell Vede e Reporter

An old fashioned pie supper was held at the American Legion building in Everton, Saturday night, November 8, with everyone having a good time. A big thank you to all those who donated pies and prizes for this event. Everyone who brought a pie or piece of pie received a prize. The highest pie went for $55. A jar of pickles went to Charles and Darlene Graham for being the

most lovesick couple. A bar of soap was awarded to Jim Willard for having the dirtiest feet. A pillowcase was put over Jim Roger’s head for being the ugliest. All proceeds brought in went to benefit the American Legion, but the total amount was not available at press time. Thanks to the auctioneers cryers, Jim and Dennis Rogers for doing a great job and keeping the crowd entertained.
