The Lamar Community Betterment group would like to recognize all those who participated in the 2014 Christmas Lighting Contest and thank them for displaying their lights and decorations on December 15. Everyone did a wonderful job of showing off the Christmas season through the decorations that were displayed. The judges, made up of the local 4-H youth group, did a great job of judging and they were very much appreciated. The first place residential winners received $25, while the second place winners won $15 and the third place winners received $10, all in Christmas Bucks. Citizens of Lamar are encouraged to take the time to tour the town and view the various displays. Lamar CB meets the second Wednesday of each month, at 12 noon and all are encouraged to come show their community support. May everyone have a Merry

Lamar Democrat/Richard Cooper A tractor trailer rig turned too sharply at the Sonic Drive-in entrance about 7:30, Friday morning, snapping a utility pole and interrupting electrical service to the area west of Gulf Street and south of U.S. 160. Temporary repairs were made until a new pole could be installed by the Lamar Electric Department. Normal service was restored around 3:30 p.m.
