Possibility of Lamar sign grows nearer

Lamar Community Betterment President Ron Hager called the meeting to order on November 12, with several in attendance. Following approval of past minutes, as well as the treasurer's report, Hager stated that he would be attending the next city council meeting in order to ask for a donation to offset some of the Missouri Community Betterment conference costs. Hager also reported that the asbestos removal work had been completed at the Gilkey building site and that all that was left to do was to tear down the building. He also reported that Lamar Community Betterment took first place for the youth division and third place for the adult division, at the state MCB conference. Congratulations were extended to all involved with this year's projects. A discussion was held on this year's Christmas lighting contest judging. There will be four awards; three for individuals and one business award. The cash awards will be the same as last year, $15 for first place, $10 for second and $5 for third, with no monetary award for the business owner finalist. Hager stated that he had the signs for the contest. Tentative dates chosen for this year were December 15 or 16. Jerod Morey volunteered AOK to pick up the signs. A discussion of potential 2015 CB projects, to be included in the Lamar Community Betterment 2015 Project book, was held. The first project brought up was the Halloween Hullabaloo, which is the trick or treating see SIGN, page 2A

Following their return home on Saturday night, from winning their fourth straight state championship, various senior members of the Lamar Tiger football team hung their shoes over the goal post, signifying the end of their high school football career. The tradition was started by 2011 Lamar High School graduate and PSU standout Colby Hall and the seniors have carried it on since that time.

County considering purchase of multi-use Geographical Information System By RICHARD COOPER Democrat staff writer

LAMAR-A demonstration by a vendor on December 1 has seemingly convinced the Barton County Commission of the need for equipment that can produce multi-layered maps of information for use by various county departments as well as the city of Lamar. The city will likely share in the expense, but the county will be the sole purchaser when bids for the equipment are sought. In greatest need for the system is the assessor’s office, which needs to produce maps with parcels of property and their boundaries shown. Assessor Ivan Frieden has previously stated that Finley Engineering can no longer produce maps due to broken and out-of-date equipment. Other likely users

of the equipment, known as Geographical Information System (GIS), are the county clerk in designating precinct boundaries, the road and bridge crew in laying out work projects, the ambulance department, and the city for multiple uses. Presenting the demonstration were two representatives from Intrinsicorp of Kirbyville. Ed Fisher is owner of the company and he was assisted by Aaron Lemmon. Presiding Commissioner Mike Davis told Fisher that the size of the expense would require the seeking of bids for a GIS system. Also, he noted that the county was facing the daunting task of creating a budget for 2015. Davis said seeking bids may have to be delayed six months or more, but he hoped it could be accomplished sometime in 2015.

JEFFERSON CITY-When county officials met at TanTar-A resort in Osage Beach, November 23-25 for the annual conclave of the Missouri Association of Counties (MAC), one of the duties expected was drafting a number of resolutions to present to the General Assembly seeking support or relief on a number of issues that have see ASSISTANCE, page 4A
