November marks a time of change and gratitude This month, we reflect on a season filled with outreach events, new opportunities to connect with our community, and heartfelt farewells as we close our Family Medicine at Eugene location after decades of service. We remain grateful for the dedication of our staff and the trust of our patients as we continue to deliver quality care across every TAPM location.

For more than 30 years, Family Medicine at Eugene has been a cornerstone of care for families across Greensboro. What began as a small neighborhood office grew into a trusted home for generations of patients who came to know their providers not just as clinicians, but as partners in health.
As we close this chapter, we do so with deep gratitude for the many providers, nurses, and staff who have served within these walls over the years. Each person played a vital role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care and creating an environment where patients felt valued, understood, and supported.
The decision to close Family Medicine at Eugene was not made lightly. However, this transition allows TAPM to strengthen services and expand access across our remaining locations, ensuring that every patient continues to receive the care they deserve.

As the days grow shorter and daylight fades earlier, many people begin to notice a change in their mood and energy. For some, this seasonal shift can trigger symptoms of depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Often referred to as the “winter blues,” SAD is more than just feeling tired or unmotivated. It is a real and treatable condition that affects how we think, feel, and function during the colder months.
Common signs include fatigue, changes in appetite or sleep, difficulty concentrating, and a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. These symptoms often begin in late fall and continue through winter, improving as spring returns. Understanding that this is a biological response to decreased sunlight helps reduce stigma and encourages people to seek support when they need it.

Coping with SAD starts with small but intentional steps. Light exposure is one of the most effective tools. Spending time outdoors during daylight hours, opening blinds to let natural light in, or using a light therapy lamp can all help regulate mood. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and consistent sleep patterns also support emotional and physical health through the darker months.
Just as importantly, reaching out for help can make all the difference. Whether through therapy, counseling, or simply talking with someone you trust, connection is key. At TAPM, our behavioral health team is here to provide guidance, resources, and compassionate support for anyone experiencing symptoms of seasonal depression. Together, we can brighten even the darkest months of the year.
November is Diabetes Awareness Month, which serves as an important reminder to take a closer look at our own health and wellness. Diabetes is one of the most common chronic conditions in the United States, and while it often affects the patients we serve, it can impact anyone, including those of us in healthcare.

Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable through healthy habits and early detection. Knowing your numbers, including blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol, is a good first step. Regular screenings and annual checkups help identify risks early so you can take action before complications develop.
Lifestyle choices also play a major role in prevention and management. Eating balanced meals, staying physically active, managing stress, and getting enough sleep all contribute to steady blood sugar levels. Even small steps, like choosing water over sugary drinks or taking a short walk during the day, can make a meaningful difference.
Caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. As we observe Diabetes Awareness Month, take a moment to check in on your own health, make a plan for wellness, and encourage those around you to do the same. Every effort counts toward a healthier future for ourselves and our community.
