Transitioned from LCSWA (associate level) to LCSW (full licensure)
Reid Brannan, LCSW
What was most recent role, and what is your new role?
I recently transitioned from LCSWA (associate level) to LCSW full licensure. The associate level comes with a lot of requirements like supervision and co-signing of documentation. I’ve heard people call it ‘working under somebody else’s license ’ After 2,000 hours and a pretty gnarly exam you become eligible for full licensure The title comes with the ability to practice independently without direct supervision. An LCSW can provide clinical services, including diagnosis and treatment, without the need for a supervisor.
How long have you worked at TAPM?
My two-year anniversary with TAPM is this July
How has TAPM helped you fulfill your personal or professional goals?
TAPM has been infinitely supportive in obtaining my licensure and helping me reach my professional goals. My supervisor, Meaghan Whitson, deserves a special shot out for being there in support through every step of the process, I couldn’t have done it without her. TAPM also supported me developmentally and financially! Applying for licensure ain’t cheap, y’all! They also helped me meet Continuing Education requirements. Meaghan and I went all the way to Phoenix, AZ my first year here to learn about emerging knowledge and practice in Integrated Care!
What advice would you give to coworkers hoping to grow within TAPM?
Don’t be afraid to ask for the support you need, everyone here is very accommodating and eager to be supportive!
What are you most excited about in this next chapter of your career?
Next is my LCAS license, or Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist! TAPM has been equally supportive of this venture. Don’t be surprised if you catch me studying. Wish me luck! Thanks TAPM!
Men face unique challenges when it comes to mental health, often influenced by cultural expectations around masculinity. Many are taught from an early age to suppress emotions and avoid vulnerability, which can lead to untreated anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions. According to the article, men are significantly less likely than women to seek professional help, even though suicide rates are higher among men particularly those in midlife.
Improving support for men starts with changing the conversation. Encouraging open dialogue, creating safe spaces for men to share their experiences, and offering accessible mental health resources are critical steps. Healthcare providers also play a key role by normalizing routine mental health screenings as part of primary care. Addressing stigma and fostering empathy can help more men feel seen, supported, and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being.

As the temperatures rise and summer activities begin to fill our calendars, staying hydrated becomes more important than ever. Water plays a vital role in nearly every function of the body. It helps regulate body temperature, cushions joints, aids digestion, and supports healthy skin. Yet, during hot weather or periods of increased activity, we can lose fluids quickly without realizing it. That is why it is essential to be intentional about drinking enough fluids each day to support our overall health and well-being.
Many people ask, “How much water should I drink?” While individual needs vary depending on age, activity level, and health conditions, a good general guideline is to aim for at least eight cups, or 64 ounces, of water daily. If you are spending more time outdoors, exercising, or working in the heat, your body may require even more. In addition to drinking water, eating water-rich foods like cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, and lettuce can help keep you hydrated. You can also enjoy hydration-friendly beverages such as herbal teas or fruit-infused water if plain water is hard to stick with.
Hydration is not only about quenching your thirst. Even mild dehydration can lead to symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and difficulty concentrating. Staying consistently hydrated helps maintain your energy levels, supports kidney and heart function, and can even improve your mood. For those managing chronic health conditions, especially in the summer heat, proper hydration becomes even more critical to avoid complications.
At TAPM, we encourage all staff and patients to make hydration a daily habit. Consider keeping a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day, especially when working long shifts or spending time outdoors. Try setting simple reminders to take sips regularly, and take note of how you feel when your body is wellhydrated. Staying hydrated is one of the simplest ways to take care of yourself physically and mentally, and it is an important part of summer self-care.
If you have questions about your hydration needs or how to support your wellness through the warmer months, do not hesitate to speak with your TAPM provider. We are here to support your health, one sip at a time.
