National Health Center Week 2025

AUGUST3-9

Last week, TAPM joined health centers nationwide in celebrating National Health Center Week, and what a week it was! Each day was filled with activities to engage our team, connect with the community, and show appreciation for our staff.

We kicked off the week with a special event for our unhoused neighbors, providing meals, hygiene kits, and access to on-site services. Later in the week, we hosted a backpack giveaway to help local students start the school year ready to learn, distributing dozens of backpacks filled with school supplies.

Alongside these community events, we celebrated our dedicated staff with daily giveaways, t-shirt distributions, and a friendly food drive competition, collecting 695 pantry items for our behavioral health food pantries. It was a week of giving back, strengthening relationships, and celebrating the heart of TAPM: our people and the community we serve.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this week a meaningful celebration of the mission and people who make TAPM thrive.

TAPM Dental Ribbon Cutting

AUGUST7TH

On Thursday, August 7, TAPM celebrated a major milestone with the ribbon cutting of TAPM Dental, our new pediatric dental practice in High Point. This exciting addition to our services will provide compassionate, high-quality dental care for children accepting Medicaid, most major insurance plans, and offering a sliding fee scale to ensure cost is never a barrier to care.

The celebration brought together partners, advocates, and community members, with inspiring remarks from High Point Mayor Cyril Jefferson, Chris Shank, President & CEO of the North Carolina Community Health Center Association, and Kevin Cain, Senior Associate Dean at High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine. Their words underscored the importance of expanding access to dental care and investing in the long-term health of our community.

Thank you to all staff, partners, and guests who braved the rain to make this day a success. TAPM Dental will begin seeing patients on August 14, and we look forward to welcoming our first little smiles through the door.

Pathways to Success

Registered Nurse - Triage

When you think back to your first day at TAPM, what stands out the most?

When I think back to my first day at TAPM, back in 2000 TAPM was Guilford Child Health I remember coming in on Wednesday July 5, 2000, the day after July 4th, feeling so blessed to be given this amazing opportunity. I needed this opportunity so much for my family and my career as a pediatric nurse. At that time the staff included our current CEO, Michelle Lewis, COO, Katina Dawson, and so many others, was so welcoming and embraced me and made me feel as if I was where I am supposed to be.

What has kept you at TAPM for 25 years?

I initially came to TAPM because I needed a position that allowed me to be able to care for my young family and be able to continue to care for pediatric patients, but what has kept me at TAPM for 25 years is the purpose and desire of my heart to care for our patients, especially PEDIATRIC PATIENTS and TAPM’s dedication to excellence and devotion to care for our patients.

Celebrating 25 Years with Triad Adult & Pediatric Medicine

What are some of your favorite memories or milestones over the last 25 years?

There are a lot of memories of seeing my pediatric patients grow up and become parents themselves and taking care of their babies. My favorite memory is of a mom and her new baby born with Down Syndrome and how much she needed us. She needed to know she could take care of him and that we were here to help her with his special needs I saw this patient grow up, as well as his mom and how our relationship evolved and how she knew she could call me, and I would call her back and help anyway I could. I saw this baby grow up to be a loving, funny and caring teen then a young man that has aged out to the adult site. His mom was always so kind and appreciative

How has your role or perspective evolved over the years?

My role evolved from being an asthma nurse to the pediatric triage nurse. My perspective evolved from just coming to a job as a pediatric nurse but to serving my patients and their families over the years.

What do you think makes someone successful at TAPM long-term?

To be successful at TAPM one would need to have an attitude that we get to serve and care for a diverse population of patients and families. You need to know that what you do for just one patient can make a difference even if it is something small and you cannot see that difference right away.

BACK TO SCHOOL MENTAL WELLNESS

The start of a new school year is a milestone one filled with opportunity, growth, and new experiences. Pathways to Wellness

AUGUST IS NATIONAL WELLNESS MONTH

August is National Wellness Month, a perfect reminder to slow down and think about how we care for our bodies, minds, and spirits. In the hustle of daily life, self-care often slips to the bottom of the list — but making it a priority can have a lasting impact on our overall well-being.

Wellness goes far beyond diet and exercise. It’s about creating balance in all areas of life, from managing stress and nurturing relationships to finding moments of joy each day. Small, intentional choices can lead to meaningful changes over time. For example, adding an extra glass of water each morning, spending ten minutes stretching before bed, or taking a midday walk can all boost your energy and improve your mood.

Wellness also means protecting your mental and emotional health. That might look like setting healthy boundaries with technology, practicing gratitude by jotting down three things you’re thankful for, or scheduling time each week for something you truly enjoy, whether that’s a hobby, time outdoors, or simply catching up with a friend.

National Wellness Month is a great time to reflect on where you are and where you’d like to be. Choose one or two small changes to start this month, and track your progress. Over time, these habits can create a foundation for a healthier, more fulfilling life. And remember: prioritizing your wellness isn’t just good for you it’s a way to ensure you can give your best to those you care about most.

Q3 Core Value

LIVING OUR VALUES: INTEGRITY IN ACTION

As we step into the third quarter of the year, TAPM is proud to highlight Integrity as our guiding core value. Integrity is more than just honesty, it’s about aligning our words with our actions, being accountable to one another, and upholding the ethical standards that shape how we care, serve, and lead.

At TAPM, integrity means showing up every day with a commitment to do what’s right, not what’s easy. It’s reflected in the trust we build with our patients, the transparency we maintain with our colleagues, and the courage we demonstrate when facing difficult decisions. Whether we’re honoring patient confidentiality, supporting a coworker, or following through on a promise, we do so with character and consistency.

Integrity is foundational to our culture. It fuels respect, strengthens collaboration, and allows us to serve our community with dignity and purpose. When we act with integrity, we earn the confidence of those we care for and create a workplace where people feel safe, valued, and proud to contribute.

Throughout this quarter, let’s challenge ourselves to embody integrity in all that we do. Speak up when it matters, take ownership of your responsibilities, and lead by example. Together, we’ll continue to build a culture that not only meets expectations, but exceeds them.
