Talipan NHS Journos recognized for multiple awards reaped all throughout school year

Eighteen campus journalists of El/Ang Talipeno, the official school publication of Talipan National High School were given recognition for having won awards in different journalistic tilts since the start of the current school year.

According to Jerwin S. Tierra, School Publication Adviser (SPA) a simple recognition was held last June 20 at the school’s SBM Office were 18 student-writers received certificates of recognition and learning package from the school.

The 18 awardees were winners and participants of various campus journalism competitions which include Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), University of the Philippines (UP) Manila Biochemistry Society’s The Aurum Online Press Conference, ExplainED Ph Online Press Conference and De La Salle University (DLSU) Ang Pahayagang Plaridel’s BayLayn

Meanwhile, leading the list of this year’s awardees were graduating seniors Associate Editor Janelle Catalla, Online Publication Editor Johann Sebastian Catalla, Chief Photojournalist Yestin Kim Roxas, Senior Cartoonist Charles Vincent Aton and Senior Photojournalist Daniel Calusin.

Also part of the list are Grade 11 staffers led by Editor-in-Chief Ronalyn Portes, Managing Editor Mark Vincent Macasinag, Head Cartoonist Aldous Gabriel Reforsado and Grade 9 staffers Opinion Editor Charmelle Grace Jacob and Copy Editor Kristel Mae Urciana.

To complete the cast, Grade 8 junior staffers namely Marl Jarred Encina, Almira Fate Lusanta, Lyr Zyrem Manalo, Danielle Joy Catalla, Alayssa Mae Francia, Jazmine Roperez, John Roi Alegre and sole freshman in the group Kaizen Italia were also recognized.

“As a graduating staffer and given the situation we are currently in, it is important for us campus journalists to received such appreciation from the school and TNHS community not because of what we’ve achieved but to be able to represent and perform our task well despite setbacks made this homage even sweeter,” said Janelle Catalla.

Meanwhile, Tierra expressed his gratitude to the graduating seniors who led the team from initiating school-based trainings to competing in different journalistic competitions before and during the pandemic.

“To our graduating seniors, El/Ang Talipeno Assoc Janelle, Online and Newsbound Anchor Johann, Chief Photojournalist Yestin, Senior PJ Daniel, Senior Cartoonist Charles and to all Senior Staff Writers, THANK YOU! We’ll surely miss you in the newsroom,” he said on a Facebook post last June 23.

Present in the awarding were PSDS Catalino L. Porta, Principal Dr. Luningning R. Mendoza, English Dept. Head Teacher Gina A. Grezula, Filipino Dept. Head Teacher Roselyn S. Acesor and SPA Jerwin Tierra. The said activity ended with photo opportunities of the school admin together with the 15 awardees that were able to attend the courtesy call in TNHS.
