Mid-year In-Service Training beefs up teachers’ core, competencies

Highlighted by the theme “Strengthening Teachers’ Core and Competencies toward Continuous Development,” Talipan National High School (TNHS) conducted its mid-year school-based In-Service Training (INSET) for teachers last February 6-10.

According to Dr. Luningning R. Mendoza, Principal IV of TNHS, this year’s training which was prepared by a group of Junior High School and Senior High School Master Teachers together with the Departments Heads was planned to help Talipan NHS teachers’ core skills to improve particularly in research, teaching approaches, multi-dimensional assessment or MDAT preparations and school-based management (SBM).

Day 1: Disciplined Researchers

followed by the cascading of different matters from SDO Quezon Management and Committee Meeting with Dr. Mendoza.

Then, Dr. Rosemarie B. Nolasco, SHS Master II shared her knowledge as the first speaker with her topic ‘Students’ Discipline and Behavior Problems’.

The afternoon session started with a management of learning (MOL) led by the Math/ESP Department then with the second session about Revisiting Research Process with Lucila as the speaker.

Participants were given time to work on their research proposal by department which will be submitted for further technical assistance in the next days.

Day 2: Mapped Dimensionally

Participants of the weeklong training were welcomed and energized by the English Department who led the MOL for the second day.

The first plenary session was about curriculummapping for standards-based learning delivery through RBT review with Dr. Reicon C. Condes from Quezon National High School as main speaker.

It was followed by another talk and this time by Dr. Condes’ wife Dr. Bernadette Alonzo-Condes who shared her expertise in crafting multi-dimensional assessment tool or MDAT following the SOLO framework.

Meanwhile, the afternoon session which was intended for an activity for teachers to craft sample MDAT test questions was led by the Filipino Department who led the MOL with exciting games and prizes.

Day 3: Guided 365 Days

The third day of the annual INSET kicked-off with Science Department leading the house in the daily MOL. TNHS very own SBM Co-coordinator and ICT Coordinator Aivie Abracia-Rabe meanwhile discussed Microsoft 365 Adoption for Quarterly Grades Integration in LIS to heat up the plenary session. about the Guidelines on the Provision of Educational Programs and Services for Learners with Disabilities. Ending the third of the said training, Araling Panlipunan Department led the group for another MOL then followed by submission and presentation of MDAT outputs of the participants.

Day 4: Demo Everywhere

The fourth day of the In-Service Training for teachers opened with an MOL led by the TLE Department who also gave motivation especially for teachers who accepted the challenge to be part of the demonstrating teaching.

Filled with passion and enthusiasm, several teachers from different departments showcased their best practices in using effective teaching strategies and approaches during their demonstration teaching.

Master Teachers, Departments Heads and Dr. Mendoza meanwhile served as process observers who also gave the demo teachers insights and technical assistance before and after the class observation.

The activity continued in the afternoon with MAPEH Department leading the MOL energizing the participants with dance exercises.

Day 5: Designed to Web

The final day of the weeklong training was intended for the Closing Program led by SHS Master Teacher II Sherwin I. Diala and the Grade 12 Curriculum.

Certificates were handed to the participants, speakers and committees who in one way or the other helped in the success of the mid-year INSET for teachers.

Meanwhile, group of teachers together with Dr. Mendoza went to Binahaan Integrated School in Brgy. Binahaan, Pagbilao, Quezon to attend a municipal-wide hands-on training in creating website for DepEd schools.

Renzdy Mejilla, Master Teacher II from Dr. Maria D. Pastrana High School Mauban, Quezon served as the trainer-speaker who helped participants from various skills in Pagbilao on how to plan and create websites for their respective schools.

“The seminar-workshop was indeed helpful lalo na sa atin kasi may existing website na tayo at magandang opportunity ito para mas lalo pang maayos yung nasimulan na. Ngayong buo na ‘yung team natin sa SBM, siguradong makagagawa tayo ng TNHS website na quality from design up to the content”, said Iris Adigan, SBM Core Team Member.
