nchored in the theme “Fostering Action Research and Continuous Improvement Despite the Pandemic”, Talipan National High School (TNHS) conducted a five-day Virtual In-Service Training (INSET) last January 31 to February 5, 2022 which was participated by all the teaching personnel from Junior and Senior High School Departments. Led by TNHS Principal Luningning R. Mendoza, this year’s INSET conducted via Google Meet highlighted topics that focused on crafting Action Research and effective implementation of Continuous Improvement Plans with invited and home-grown speakers who shared their expertise on the said topics to help teachers improve in these fields.

DAY 1: Performance Monitoring

The INSET kicked-off offline with simultaneous conduct of performance monitoring and review of each department on teacher’s IPCRF and E-SAT. Initiated by Head Teachers, all teachers of

TNHS were able to discuss and received recommendations from their heads about their performance as educators based on the IPCRF indicators set. “This mid-year review is indeed a helpful one. As a teacher who looks after my professional growth and improvement, [an activity like] this

reminds me kung nasaan na nga ba ako at ano-ano pa ang mga bagay na dapat kong pagsikapan pa to meet my personal goals in line with my profession,” said Andrew Carmelo Rubico, T-I from Science Department. “Nakatulong ito sobra para ma-enhance lalo ‘yung kakayahan ko as a Mathematics teacher. This review made me realize kung ano nga bang mga dapat kong gawing actions sa mga parts na mahina ako… and the suggestions given by my head teacher helped me to set my priority actions para mag-improve sa ibang bagay at ma-maintain naman yung mga points na outstanding na ako,” shared Nerissa Nanadiego, T-III from Math-ESP Department. “Nabatid ko ang mga kakayahang dapat ko pa linangin at pagyamanin. Bilang tugon dito, kailangan kong sumabay sa mga inobasyong hatid ng makabagong sistema ng edukasyon,” said Ivy L. Hicana, T-I from Filipino Department.

DAY 2: Sparks of Difference After a one-day break, the INSET resumed on February 2 on Google Meet with the first set of speakers. Invited Resource Speaker, Florida C. Visperas, T-III talked about Project SPARK: Intellectual Property Rights Law and Its Application in Textbook Writing. Meanwhile, Lorna C. Arenal, MT-II and SHS Coordinator shared Project LRM: Learning Resource Management. I was followed by the Preparation of Self-Learning Modules by the JHS and SHS Advisers and Subject Teachers that also ended the morning session. In the afternoon, Sherwin A. Saavedra, MT-I from Gumaca National High School discussed the topic #myARMS and Its “Allies”: Putting Student’s Academic Performance into Radar. Day 2 of the training was hosted by Rosemarie B. Nolasco, MT-I and Hernando C. Cortez, MT-II.

Day 3: Continuous Improvement is our Style The third of the virtual training started with the usual Management of Learning (MoL) led by the Filipino Department. Games, Energizer and Food for Thought was given to motivate teachers for the whole day training. Session 1 featured the resource speakers Luzviminda P. Ware, T-III from GNHS and Elizabeth F. Gutierrez, TIC of BES with their best practices in Cpntinuous Improvement Plan (CIP) Processes. The two shared their school’s innovations and target goals that Talipan High teachers are able to adapt for their own CIP and school projects as well. It was followed by Jerwin S. Tierra’s (T-I) discussion of the DepEd Manual of Style (DMOS) which focused on the basic rules and considerations in crafting work-related documents.

“Bilang mga nasa DepEd, we should follow the style nan i-set ng DepEd para sa crafting ng ating mga documents. It will not only promote uniformity but will also make our works more organized,” he said.

Day 4: Talipan High Teachers in ‘Action’ Despite the modality, the fourth day of the training became more interactive as selected teachers from every department presented their CIPs lead by School Research Committee Lirio G. Parale, MT-I and Merla V. Luces, MT-I. Lorna C. Arenal, MT-II and Florida C. Visperas, T-III also hosted the Action Research Presentations in the morning which gave teachers more idea on the purpose and hot to craft action researches. To recall, one of TNHS aims is to make all teachers a researcher. Meanwhile, Management of Learning was hosted by the English Department which excites the participants to join early as big prizes awaited the early birds in the programme.

Day 5: Leaving the Meet with New Goals and Learning The last of the INSET 2022 included the Evaluation of PPAs led by the HT In-charge / SHS Coordinator, SPT/ GPTA President/ SSG President/ Project Owner of PPAs for the current school year. It was also the time for the teachers to send their queries and clarify other things that were previously discussed. Each department also have their representatives to share their important learning and takeways from the five-day training. Charisse Daa, T-I from AP Department said said “Batay sa konsepto na natutuhan ko dito bilang guro marapat na matututong gumawa ng isang contextualized learning materials na tumatalima sa format na pagbabatayan at syempre aangkop sa kakayahan ng mga mag-aaral at hindi lalabag sa nilalaman ng intellectual property rights law. She also added “Maging mapanuri at magsaliksik ng mga solusyon sa problema na nakikita sa loob ng paaralan sa pamamagitan ng Action Research at CIp at patuloy na mahalin ang trabaho at ang lahat ng paghihirap at gawain ay may katapusan, may matamis na bunga lahat ng pagsisikap. Joanna Paula R. Portes, T-I from Math-ESP Department meanwhile compared the teachers to a ‘sinaing’ as they still all have room for more improvements. According to her, she realized that after learning all the speakers, ‘masasabi ko pong para tayong sinaing na kailangan pang i-in-in’… tulad po ng sinaing, marami pa tayong kailangang matutuhan para maging handa sa ating mga gagawin.”

According to Mendoza, it was one of the best INSET they have so far in Talipan NHS as timely and relevant topics with great speakers bannered this school year’s edition. “We thank all the speakers, the Master Teachers behind this program, the Head Teachers, teacher-participants and the Technical Committee for doing all their best to make this INSET 2022 a remarkable and highly productive,” Mendoza said as he gave the Challenge to the teachers. “Kitang-kita sa inyong mga reaksyon at feedbacks and saya at excitement na simulang muli an gating mga gawain para sa patuloy na ikakauunlad ng ating mga proyekto at pag-aaral nan aka-sentro para sa pagkatuto ng ating mga mag-aaral,” she added. The program ended with Emerita R. Marquez, MT-I who accepted the challenge and led the singing of the Unity Song to officially end the five-day virtual INSET. The INSET Technical Committee included Sherwin Diala, MT-II and Maria Teresa M. Lucila, MT-II for Registration and Evaluation, Hernando C. Cortez, MT-II and Lucila for Certificates, Lorna C. Arenal, Mt-II for Communication/ Speakers, also Arenal and Lirio G. Parale, MT-I for the INSET Matrix, Jerwin S. Tierra for the Documentation/ Newsletter and Luningning R. Mendoza, Principal III who approved the conduct of the event was assigned for the Token for the Speakers.
