Tahltan Hy-Tech Drilling is the TNDC partnership with Hy-Tech Drilling Ltd., the preferred choice for Diamond Drilling in Tahltan Territory. Based in Smithers, BC, Hy-Tech supports the world’s leading mining companies with surface, fly, and underground drilling for exploration, development stage projects and ongoing active mining operations in some of the most rugged and complex environments.

With the industry’s highest hole completion rate of 99%, equipment uptime of 99.7%, and safety embedded in everything we do, Hy-Tech is trusted to keep you on schedule. Hy-Tech designs, builds, and maintains the equipment, optimizing access to the complex terrain in Tahltan Territory, deep hole requirements, and reducing environmental impact. Hy-Tech also reduces water usage by over 90% by filtering solid waste and reusing water through the centrifuge system. We are also able to provide advanced drilling analytics to monitor and log performance. What is your relationship with TNDC and the Tahltan Nation? How long have you had your joint venture (or other relationship) with TNDC?

Hy-Tech Drilling is committed to building positive and ongoing relationships with Indigenous people and local communities in the regions that we operate. Hy-Tech has promoted training and employment opportunities in the Tahltan area through OnTrack and has taken part in various career fairs throughout the years. Where there is sufficient ongoing demand for drilling by Hy-Tech, business partnerships can be developed and as such the Tahltan Hy-Tech Drilling partnership was established in 2021 and subsequently launched in 2022.

What employment and training opportunities are available to Tahltan members? How do you communicate these opportunities?

Hy-Tech has opportunities in all areas of the business from field operations (drillers, helper, foreman) to field support (human resources, safety, finance, shop, warehouse, etc.) at the branch location in Smithers. Opportunities for training and employment are advertised on the Hy-Tech website, social media accounts, OnTrack and on various other employment search websites.

What training opportunities do you provide for Tahltan members?

Hy-Tech offers an in-house Drillers Helper Training Program multiple times throughout the year. The course provides new recruits with no previous experience in the Diamond Drilling Industry with an introduction to the drillers’ helpers’ roles, responsibilities, and tasks. CONTACT

The course is provided through a mix of classroom and hands-on training and candidates are offered field placement upon successful completion of the course. Continued training and development is also offered to employees throughout their careers at Hy-Tech. There is a real focus on safety, and we are confident in our procedures and equipment. In addition to career development, field crews are offered the following specific training opportunities:

• Canadian Mining Certification Program (CMCP); • Ontario Common Core (OCC); and, • Standard First Aid & Transportation

• Tools and assessments that have been developed to determine if an employee is ready for the next step in their career at Hy-Tech.

Hy-Tech has a team of highly experienced trainers who facilitate internal training programs and career development.

What philanthropic contributions have you made to the Tahltan Nation?

Hy-Tech has provided support to the following areas:

• Donation toward the Telegraph Creek rebuild; • General Scholarship Application; • Tahltan Selects Hockey Team; • Tahltan Resource Forum; and,

• Participated in TCG Job Fair and provided swag to participants.

Hy-Tech will continue to work with the Tahltan Nation to contribute to community goals that provide legacy and value to as many community members as possible.

Do you have any Tahltan contractors working for your company? If yes, who?

Yes, Hy-Tech, and our clients, work together to provide opportunities for Tahltan contracts on site. Hy-Tech has developed a relationship with TNDC at the Red Chris Mine and works together to ensure smooth operation at the drill site.

How do you communicate contracting processes when you are looking for services providers?

Hy-Tech actively seeks out ways to make positive contributions that bring long-term benefits to the communities where we have ongoing work. We encourage Tahltan contractors and businesses to reach out and provide us with information on their services.

What is your approach to including Tahltan businesses in your operations?

Hy-Tech is committed to including Tahltan businesses in our operations as opportunities arise. Where Hy-Tech has subcontracting opportunities to offer, the Tahltan Nation is given the first right of refusal. The Tahltan Nation is allowed the first opportunity to put forth their quote and qualifications.
