Tahltan ERM Environmental Management (TEEM) provides consulting services within the Tahltan Territory, including environmental, archaeological, sustainability, health and safety, fisheries, terrestrial, climate and atmospheric, ecological risk assessments, environmental effects monitoring, reclamation, water treatment, and social and economic sciences.

erm.com What is your relationship with TNDC and the Tahltan Nation? How long have you had your joint venture (or other relationship) with TNDC?

The TNDC and ERM Consultants Canada Ltd. (ERM) partnered in May 2004 to establish RTEC (renamed to TEEM in the summer of 2021). TEEM was formed as a 50/50 joint venture partnership.

What employment and training opportunities are available to Tahltan members? How do you communicate these opportunities?

TEEM is always looking for field-going staff to support our teams across the various tasks and projects in Tahltan Territory. Additionally, we are looking for project managers/coordinators and individuals with experience in environmental science or engineering as well as some administrative roles. Training is provided on-thejob through direct experience and mentoring in the field.

Training opportunities include hydrological measurements, surface and groundwater sampling, meteorological station installation and maintenance, first aid, swift water, electrofishing, and avalanche skills. TEEM also provides an annual bursary to Tahltan members for advanced and ongoing education opportunities.

We communicate employment opportunities through OnTrack, our partners at TNDC, the Employment Director with the TCG, and our internal network of past employees. We partner with Tahltan and Indigenous businesses like Northern Labour to increase our connection with Tahltan employees and we also make use of Indigenous career website postings.

Why should Tahltan members want to work for you?

TEEM provides unique opportunities to travel to remote locations within and outside the territory. The exposure to the land while studying fish, wildlife, hydrology, glaciers, weather, and archaeology helps build and maintain a connection to that land and culture. Working directly in and for the environment will foster an understanding and appreciation of the pristine conditions of the territory and support sustainable resource development for future generations.

What training opportunities do you provide for Tahltan members?

In addition to on-the-job training and mentorship, TEEM provides continuing education opportunities through intensive classroom and field training programs. In the past, topics have included water quality sampling, hydrology, air quality, field measurements, and contaminated sites and ML/ARD. The first session was held in 2005 and a second in 2018. TEEM continues to look for ways to provide training. TEEM also provides an annual bursary to Tahltan members for advanced and ongoing education opportunities.

What philanthropic contributions have you made to the Tahltan Nation?

TEEM has participated in the TCG bursary program to Tahltan members. TEEM has also sponsored and participated in the Tour de Telegraph and the TCG Job Fair.

Do you have any Tahltan contractors working for your company? If yes, who?

Yes. In 2021, TEEM hired over 1,700 hours of employment of Tahltan members through Northern Labour. TEEM collaborates regularly with other Joint Venture partners like Tahltan Allnorth, Tahltech Drilling, and Bandstra.

How do you communicate contracting processes when you are looking for services providers?

Contracting opportunities are communicated through TNDC and the Employment Director at the TCG.

What is your approach to including Tahltan businesses in your operations?

TEEM is a collaborative organization and routinely partners with and includes Tahltan businesses, Joint Venture partners, and Tahltan individuals in our projects. Our approach is to connect with TNDC to identify any suitable businesses to include in our projects.

We contact businesses directly and engage on a task-by-task basis providing support and direction as needed. We have priority hiring of Tahltans, TNDC Joint Venture companies, and Tahltan owned businesses when working on Tahltan lands. We collaborate with our clients to do the same to build economic development and prosperity in the territory.
