northwestfuels.ca What is your relationship with TNDC and the Tahltan Nation? How long have you had your joint venture (or other relationship) with TNDC?
Northwest Fuels is entering its 10th year of a Joint Venture with the TNDC; however, our personal and working relationships with TNDC and the Tahltan communities stem back decades.
What employment and training opportunities are available to Tahltan members? How do you communicate these opportunities?
We are proud to be part of the OnTrack initiative, which communicates opportunities within our company to Tahltan communities and members. Currently we are seeking Class 1 Drivers; we have accommodation options available for anyone wishing to only relocate for shift work, but we also encourage anyone who has an interest in working for us to stop by or contact us anytime to see if there is a position right for you!
Why should Tahltan members want to work for you?
We pride ourselves on being a family and community minded company that offers competitive wages and full benefits, health, and wellness incentives, as well as the opportunity to advance and learn new skill sets. We pride ourselves on flexibility and commitment to assisting our employees both in and out of the workplace. Additionally, being part of our team lets you travel the Northwest and still be close to home!
What training opportunities do you provide for Tahltan members?
COVID has sidetracked our goal of hosting joint spill response training sessions, but we are eager to see those come to fruition. We have incentives to help interested parties reach their long-term goals (i.e., obtaining a Class 1 license).
What philanthropic contributions have you made to the Tahltan Nation?
We have always supported Tahltans in their community goals including the Annual Tour Telegraph, the Telegraph Recreational Hockey team (Yukon Native Hockey Tournament) and various fundraising events for the efforts to rebuild Telegraph and support impacted families.
How do you communicate contracting processes when you are looking for services providers?
We reach out to the closest contractor for the service(s) required for subcontract work; we have a wellestablished contact network of Tahltan subcontractors up and down Highway 37. Again, we are always happy to expand upon that network and would love to hear from you if you feel like your services could be advantageous to our line of work or potential requirements.
What is your approach to including Tahltan businesses in your operations?
We rely heavily on both word-of-mouth of our Tahltan associates and clients, but we also use various Tahltan organizations to acquire contact information for services that may be required.
Anything else you would like to share with the Tahltan Nation?
We are incredibly proud to work alongside the Tahltan Nation. Together we are fueling the future of the Northwest and reaching progressive milestones not only in business, but in camaraderie.
