fiveways TOUR DE FRANCE VISITS FIVEWAYS This great photo was taken by Leslie Whitcomb and is of the Tour de France when it came to Brighton on 6 July 1994. It was kindly sent to us by his son Peter who still lives locally. The cyclists are passing the Stanmer Park Tavern, now the Fiveways pub, in Ditchling Road, on the 4th stage of the tour, which began in Dover, marking the opening of the Channel Tunnel two months earlier. The route included Ditchling Beacon and Elm Grove, and ended in a sprint finish on Madeira Drive.
