SEVEN STARS RIPLEY GRAND REOPENING

The Seven Stars Pub in Ripley has undergone a huge interior and exterior makeover and is set to open its doors to the public on November 28th. The popular pub has been taken over by the Running Mare in Cobham owner, Ollie, who has spent the last 2 months renovating the manor building, dating back to 1536, to get it back to its former glory. The Seven Stars has long been one of the landmark bars in Ripley. The new owner is really excited to turn The Seven Stars into a destination for all ages and tastes and make it a vibrant social hub for the Ripley community and beyond. Ollie comes from a hospitality background – his family have run a number of successful pubs and bars before the Seven Stars – he spent a large part of his life supporting and working with mother and father (Adrian & Jenny) at the renowned Running Mare pub before taking over fully a few years ago.

LILY & DAVID SPLIT RUMOURS RESURFACE

Brit singer Lily Allen has reportedly split from her actor husband David Harbour as she unfollows him on social media.

The couple, who married at Graceland Wedding Chapel in 2020, have not been pictured together since September and according to a report in The Sun newspaper, from a source close to Lily, “they have barely been together for the past three months and have been living separate lives.”

Harbour who stars in the hit US series ‘Stranger Things’ still follows Lily on Instagram but she has taken the decision to unfollow him – further sparking the split rumours.

The couple met in 2019 at The Brit Awards after-show party and had been inseparable since. Their third-year wedding anniversary was on September 7th and where previous years happy pictures of the couple posing together would surface with beautiful, gushing gestures of love - this year Lily reposted an old wedding pic with the text, “3 years with this guy, 2nd best decision I have ever made. 1st was the dress.”

Lily, daughter of actor Keith Allen, aged 35, first shot to fame with hit song ‘Smile’ in 2006, has two daughters with previous partners and no kids with Harbour, aged 48.

LAWYERS SNUB DAVIS ON TUPAC CHARGES Duane ‘Keffe D’ Davis who was arrested by Las Vegas police on suspicion of Tupac Shakur's murder in September has yet to find a lawyer to represent him, forcing postponement of his October court case.

It is unprecedented that not one lawyer has come forward to represent Keffe, adding fuel to the fire, that he was indeed the killer of the rapping legend.

The Tupac murder case has been unsolved since it occurred 27 years ago. Davis has reportedly been on the investigators' radar for a while now. In 2019, he wrote a memoir titled ‘Compton Street Legend’, in which he admitted that he was in the Cadillac that Tupac's shooter was in. On September 7, 1996, Tupac aged only 25-years-old was in a car that was driven by Marion Knight, the founder of Death Row Records which was the record label Tupac was signed to. While at a red light near the Las Vegas strip, a white Cadillac drove up next to the car and fired into the BMW killing Tupac. It is unprecedented that not one lawyer has come forward to represent Keffe, adding fuel to the fire, that he was indeed the killer of the rapping legend.

NEWS ITV TOUT HOLLY REPLACEMENT ITV have been touting presenters including Davina McCall and Kate Garraway to take over from Holly Willoughby, after she sensationally quit ‘This Morning’ last month over kidnap plots.

Holly’s dramatic exit follows Philip Schofield’s much-publicised stepping down in August following a relationship with a much younger ‘This Morning’ colleague.

ITV bosses have reportedly been in talks with former ‘Big Brother’ presenter McCall, GMTV presenter Garraway to take Holly’s role and Ben Shepherd has been approached to be Schofield’s replacement.

FAMILY GUY HILARIOUS DIG AT HARRY & MEGHAN Popular TV series ‘Family Guy’ has done an awesome parody of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent multi-million pound, ‘sell-out’ deal to Netflix.

The hit show, created by comedian Seth Macfarlane, shows the main character Peter Griffin lying on a beach likening himself to the former Royal couple and wondering how he can make money before coming up with a genius idea “to go it alone.”

The show then jumps to Harry and Meghan lying by a pool as a butler hands them “millions from Netflix.” Harry then asks the butler to “Put it with the rest,” before the brutal takedown then shows Meghan saying to Harry, “Babe, time to do our $250,000 sponsored Instagram post for Del Taco!”

The ‘Family Guy’ episode aired last month to huge fanfare and is already trending on social media. It is reported the Netflix deal netted the royal couple $112million. Plus, they have multiple sponsorship and promotional deals in place with a number of high-profile brands.

e were ecstatic to be asked to come and test drive the Morgan Super 3 at Bell & Colvill in East Horsley last month. We had heard so much about this luxury car model that had undergone an impressive remake to be relaunched to the market in 2022, and it exceeded all our expectations.

There are only between 800-1000 Morgan Super 3 cars made a year. They’re bonkers, fun and extremely unique! Looking like a Spitfire on wheels this car exudes coolness too – classic mixed with conptemporary touches – makes this car totally unique to anything else out there.

OUR EXPERIENCE Richard Wright, sales manager at Bell & Colvill, took the helm and started our initial test drive. The first thing we have to say is how rapid it is and can do an impressive 0-60mph in 7 seconds. This seems even faster as being open-topped you are experiencing the extra gust of wind and all the elements. This is what really makes the Super 3 such a fun drive, along with the third back wheel which gives a bumpier, yet more thrilling ride, than a normal 4 wheeled sports car.

The broad track of the Morgan is defined by two giant 20-inch bespoke Avon tyres that keep the traditional look yet make the Morgan so unique to look at and drive. The superformed aluminium structure of the car makes it sleek yet lightweight and mode. The steering column moves too – a nice extra touch so can be tailored to whoever is driving the car. It also reaches a top speed of 128mph. This is a totally exhilarating experience and one that our testers have never matched in all their dozens of car reviews.

call this ‘the perfect toy’. I had a few ladies waved at me!

There is a sports exhaust attached to the Morgan Super 3 too which can be made bespoke to you. Alongside transfers, stickers and whatever colour you desire! This car is all about fun. And it’s great for storage too with side carry on cases that can easily be attached.

HISTORY The Morgan 3 Wheeler was first brought to market in 1909 – it was considered the epitome of cool and luxury. Although following some (unnecessary bad 3-wheeler press) Morgan stopped production in 1950 and started again following demand for classic cars in 2012, with the new Super 3 starting again in 2022 to rave reviews.

RECIPE MUTTI PASTA MOLLICATA This tried and tested delicious anchovy pasta recipe will be sure to warm your cockles on cold November nights.

From Mutti who have teamed up with professional chef, foodie, influencer and restaurant owner Gabriella Margiotta to create simple Italian meals perfect for the whole family.

Preparation time: 25 minutes Serving: 2 people INGREDIENTS • 160g bucatini pasta • 3 cloves garlic • 1/2 tsp dried chilli flakes • 1 white onion • 2 anchovy fillets • 50g breadcrumbs (stale loaf bread torn up will work) • 2 tbsp Mutti double concentrate • 80ml olive oil • Black pepper METHOD • Bring a large pan of salted water to the boil • Add 2 tbsp of olive oil to the pan on a low heat, add the anchovies, garlic and chilli to the pan, allow to fry for a minute or so until the anchovies melt into the oil • Add the breadcrumbs and toast them in the oil for 5-10 minutes stirring continuously to get an even golden-brown colour. Remove the breadcrumbs and set aside • Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook al dente

• To the same pan you used to toast the breadcrumbs add the remaining olive oil, onion and double concentrate. Allow to cook for a few minutes on a medium heat until there is a rich red oil. Add a ladle of the pasta water and turn the heat to low • Once the pasta is cooked add to the sauce along with half the breadcrumbs and toss the pasta well adding more pasta water when needed to achieve a glossy sauce • Serve with a final sprinkle of breadcrumbs some cracked black pepper and enjoy.

KIRSTIE OTAMENDI Kirstie's love for horses began at an early age when her grandmother, the first-ever lady polo player in Western Australia, gifted her a pony at two years old. Growing up on the Minninnooka ranch, Kirstie competed in showjumping and eventing. She started playing polo professionally after catching the bug from her 5-goaler father, Owen Readhead, and is an HPA coach.

DANIEL OTAMENDI Daniel began his polo career in Brunei, grooming, playing, and making horses for the Sultan. After a few seasons in Argentina, he moved to the UK in 2000 and has since established himself as a well-regarded professional player. ABOUT POLO The origins of polo - most people associate polo with Argentina, but it originated in Persia in 600 BC, partly as a sport and partly as training for war. The modern game was exported to England and the rest of the world by the British military, who found it being played in Gilgit on the Northwest Frontier in the middle of the 19th century.

British polo players introduced the game to Argentina, and for the last 100 years, the roots of polo have been deeply embedded there. In the current world rankings, nine of the top 10 players are Argentine, as are 15 of the top 20. Like most equestrian disciplines, boys and girls compete equally. The sport is currently male-dominated, although women’s polo is rapidly growing.

Lessons and tournaments, however, are played in mixed teams.

Once known as “the game of kings”, the equestrian team sport of polo is now one of the most accessible sports in the UK. Played on horseback, 2 polo teams

consisting of 4 players (3 players in the arena) each compete against each other, using their mallets to strike the ball into goals at either end of the field or arena.

Each player has a number that determines their function in the field or arena and which position they and their horse are assigned to helps create the most successful alignment for the attack. The mallet must always be held in the right hand, even left handers like Prince William have to play right handed.

Minninnooka teach polo lessons all year round, although like most ball sports, there are seasons in polo. The arena season takes place from November-April and is played in an indoor or outdoor arena (with floodlights when the darker nights set in). The mallet heads are slightly larger, and the ball which is often bright orange for visibility, is more like a miniature football. The Summer season starts in May and ends in September, and the smaller mallet heads are used to hit a hard white ball on a flat grass field, about the size of 6 football pitches!

The rules are mainly similar.

FUN POLO FACTS • Polo was an Olympic sport from 1900 to 1936, with Argentina being the reigning champions.

• You can also play on the snow and on the beach.

• Polo horses called ‘ponies’, are in fact horses measuring above 14.2 hands. Most are of the Argentinean Criollo breed are pure or cross thoroughbreds.

• Their main qualities are speed, stamina, steadiness and strength; the ability to accelerate, stop and turn quickly; and temperaments that are amenable to the game.

• Polo players admit that the pony can account for as much as 70% of their overall performance.

• Polo ponies generally begin their training as yearlings and start playing at the ages of 5-7 depending on the pony.

RULES OF THE GAME • The goalposts are 8 yards apart and open at the top so goals can be scored at any height.

• A Polo match consists of 4 to 8 chukkas (determined before the match), each chukka lasting 7 minutes of actual play.

• To begin the umpire throws the ball in between the two teams (in a line up). This is how play is restarted after a goal is scored too.

• When a goal is scored teams change ends, which helps to equalise any ground or weather advantages.

• The fundamental rule in polo is the line of the ball, which establishes who has right of way, to keep the game safe. This line changes when the ball changes direction and players can only cross the line if deemed safe.

• Players may challenge opposing players by ‘riding them off’, where a player rides their pony alongside their opponent’s and attempts to move them away from the line of the ball or even take them out of play.

• Players may also hook an opponent’s stick when they are swinging to hit the ball.

• Following a foul, a free hit to the opposition may be awarded.

• Ponies can play two chukkas, however, must have a break of at least one chukka in between.

• Players are handicapped on their ability (-2 – 10 goals), teams with a lower overall handicap are given a goal advantage to start.

PATRON: An amateur player who pays to put a team together, which is usually made up of at least two professionals and is normally named by the patron.

CHUKKA: There are six chukkas (periods) in high handicap matches, each lasting seven minutes plus up to 30 seconds of overtime. If, during the extra 30 seconds, the ball hits the sideboards or goes out of bounds, or if the umpire blows his whistle for a foul, the chukka is over. Chukka comes from the Indian word for a circle or round.

SCHOOLS POLO & JUNIOR POLO DEVELOPMENT TRAINING The junior polo development programme provides the option of three progressive lesson groups throughout the week, as well as academy-level chukkas on weekends and during the school term and holidays. Lessons are comprised of riding for polo skills and exercises, stick and ball work, theory, and conclude with a practice chukka. Furthermore, players are given opportunities to compete in SUPA, a schools and universities association that hosts both friendly and national tournaments throughout the year.

SHETLANDS - for beginners ages 6 - teens. Pupils are taught how to walk, trot & canter. £40 (45 mins) FLUES - for those who can safely walk & trot & are starting to canter with a mallet. £65 per hour CRIOLLOS - for those who can hit the ball in trot & canter & are implementing the rules of polo. £65 per hour

LADIES ACADEMY POLO The ladies' polo programme is open to women at all levels of experience, from seasoned riders to those who have never sat on a horse before.

Different time slots are offered that are tailored to each individual's level of proficiency. Small group lessons are held on Wednesdays and Fridays, and you can also join academy chukkas scheduled on certain weekends. Ladies lessons are 1 hour long and include riding tuition, stick and ball, and a chukka lots of fitness, fun learning and laughter!

LADIES ANTS - for ladies that are new to polo and are trying it for the first time. No riding experience is necessary. £80 including horse/£40 with own horse.

LADIES RAIN - for more experienced ladies who can safely canter around the arena and hit the ball and are learning hitting techniques, riding exercises and the rules of polo. £80 including horse/£40 with own horse.

MEET THE CHEF MOHSSINE EL FADDI - KINGHAMS M

ohssine El Faddi is Chef Patron at Kinghams Restaurant, a two AA Rosette fine-dining establishment in Shere.

He has co-owned Kinghams with business partner Jack Forrest Foster, since 2019.Home for Kinghams Restaurant is a listed 17th century building in the beautiful and rural village of Shere, just a few miles from Guildford and Dorking and in the heart of the Surrey Hills AONB. As a highly skilled and experienced chef, Mohss’s focus is on elegant, seasonal and contemporary British food prepared with local ingredients to the highest level.

“The menu changes according to the availability of the produce with local venison, partridge and duck regularly featured, as well beef from the Surrey Hills. We have our own herb and vegetable garden and every part of the menu is freshly made by the kitchen team.”

Mohss was born in Morocco and started his career over twenty years ago at the prestigious Tante Marie School of Cookery where he completed his Diploma in Cordon Bleu cookery.

He also trained at a Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons under the ownership of Raymond Blanc. He went on to work for a variety of award winning establishments including Marco Pierre White’s The Mirabelle, Sonny’s and The Langham Hotel before heading down to Surrey where he now lives and works.

“I am proud to bring some elements of my Moroccan heritage to our fine dining menu - I think that’s what helps to elevate it and adds a contemporary twist. Our guests enjoy spices, grains and cooking methods that are not necessarily used elsewhere in the area.”

Diners choose from a four-course menu, designed to showcase the dedicated kitchen team’s skills and seasonal produce.

OUR EXPERIENCE Our recent trip to Passorn Thai was amazing.

Choose from delicious dishes including Satay, Tempura, Spring Rolls, Gyoza, Stir Frys, Salads, Soups, Pad Thai, Curries and Chef’s Specials. Plus, exciting new dishes on their vast menu include Seared Scallops and Garlic Tempura.

The Starters consisted of Chicken Satay, Sticky Ribs (pork ribs triple cooked and marinated in a homemade sauce) and Tempura Prawn. All three were sublime.

The crispiness of the Tempura was incredible and the Prawns large and tender. The Ribs literally fell off the bone, the meat being incredibly succulent and tender and of course triple cooked to perfection. The accompanying homemade sauce was sweet with a slight hint of spice.

The Chicken Satay - a firm Passorn Thai favourite consisted of four large skewers of marinated chicken and peanut dipping sauce to die for!

For Mains we went for the Chicken Massaman with

potatoes, peppers, onions and chilli – flavoursome yet incredibly healthy with a delicious mid-spicy sauce to accompany. The classic mild Thai Green Curry with coconut milk cooked with fresh bamboo shoots, courgettes and fresh churned greens was equally superb too and beautifully presented.

Next up was the Pad Thai which is traditional stir-fried rice noodles with eggs, bean sprouts, tamarind sauce, served with fresh lime and ground peanuts on the side which comes in various options of Chicken Breast, Tiger Prawn, Beef, Vegetable and Tofu & Vegetables. We went for the Prawn which was so delicious and flavours of the sauce and crisp beanshoots were perfect. We had a Tamarind Duck too Crispy fried duck, sliced and smothered in a rich tamarind

and caramelised shallots sauce Jasmine Rice to accompany. The meal delighted our diners and easily went round, with some leftover for the next day.

And what’s more as well as being the best Thai we have had so far in Surrey the meal was incredible value for money - especially considering the quality of the dishes we had.

We were so impressed with Passorn Thai that we have booked to go back again, we hope you enjoy your experience at this beautiful restaurant.

t’s never too early to start thinking about Christmas and this month I want to share some trends to get you ready for the festive season. The bob is continuing to have a moment this year with celebrities such as Helen Mirren, Hailey Bieber, Emma Stone and Lily Allen all showcasing the versatility this style offers. Sleek or tousled, side or middle parting, the humble bob is making its mark and is a reasonably easy style to switch up for a night out. The key here is using the right product to create a definition. For a smooth finish, Oribe’s Gold Lust Hair Oil is a must, and for a more dishevelled look, Oribe’s Dry Texture Spray is your friend.

Those with shorter hair should consider the Mixie. This is a combination of the pixie and mullet and was recently seen on Kirsten Stewart. Think of the pixie but with a little more length through the sides and back. It’s still feminine with a slightly grungy edge and looks great on all ages, with strong bone structures.

Stealing the stoplight this season though is the classic accessory - ribbon.

Hair can be smooth and sleek, taking inspiration from the pretty Balletcore trend we saw earlier this year, and works well worn in a bow with a half up/half down style. Alternatively, create a more undone look with the ribbon either hiding underneath or being used to secure the style in place.

NEWS Just as fashion week wrapped up, the HARE & BONE Art Team were invited to Chicago to present 10 looks at a global hair conference. Myself, Jamie Benny and Amelia Evans, created the hair that was then showcased to over 25,000 people. It was an incredible three days of hard work and creativity and we’re super proud of the results. As I landed in London it was time to head to Esher and celebrate their 5th birthday. Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, we couldn’t do it without you, and wouldn’t want to.

DATING APPS Dating apps can also work, if you have the time to invest. However, it can become like a full-time job. Sifting through all the undesirables, but if volume is what you want and at very little cost this is the way to go. If you are new to dating, get some advice before you dive in with dating apps as there is so much uncertainty because nobody on a dating app has been vetted. You will find that the majority of profiles have been put up by scammers, or are fake, because they have stolen someone’s identity. There are also people who have completely reinvented themselves and therefore you are getting to know them under false pretences.

Usually dating apps are the place to go for people that are already in unhappy relationships, for a bit of extra curriculum fun! That’s why most people you connect with on dating apps will be reluctant to actually meet up IRL (in real life!).

THE SCIENCE BIT I believe there are formula’s to establishing who could potentially be a great long-term prospect. Apart from my 20 plus years as a matchmaker and industry expert, I use the Enneagram compatibility testing program, which helps me, and my clients establish more about their personality traits. This can then preempt what personality types are scientifically more likely to match together.

Most clients will list an array of personality aspects, such as honesty, integrity, generosity. They say they are seeking confident, driven, spontaneous, decisive people, but with little thought of whether all these personality traits are even possibly achievable within one person.

Sometimes things just do not go with the territory. For example, if you want someone who is totally reliable and punctual, they are hardly likely to also be spontaneous types. People who throw caution to the wind really easily. Reliable and punctual people like to plan.

Of course, there is a little of lots of things that go into making up a personality type. But fundamentally the Enneagram system demonstrates the traits that are most common in each of our personal make-up.

So, following your test, your report could discover that you are 64% ‘Type 7’ and 22% ‘Type 2’ – with a little of some other types thrown in. But predominantly Type 7 is your main character.

This month we got to catch up with Shaun, of Dinner With Shaun fame, on all things culinary as well as what it like to run your own business, catering for over 100 people and how he keeps a cool head when it gets hot in the kitchen!

DINNER WITH SHAUN HOW DID YOU COME TO SET UP DINNER WITH SHAUN? I became very disillusioned with the hospitality industry, not all of course, but a lot of employers were more interested in the profit than the service or the product they were providing, and it’s no secret the hospitality industry has treated its staff dreadfully for years and I wanted to basically do things better, which I am sure is why a lot of people start their own businesses. I felt customers weren’t always getting great value for money or being given that wow factor of an experience, yet if you go out for dinner in even a middle of the road restaurant its usually quite expensive, and the cost of drinking good wine in restaurants in my opinion is a scandal! So, I wanted people from all walks of life to be able to enjoy great food and wine at a reasonable price, the fact that it’s delivered in your own home or venue of your choosing was more default than design, I never had the money to open a restaurant, so cooking for customers in their homes was the only option I had.

HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT TO OTHER PREMIUM HOME DINING EXPERIENCES? A tough question, I would like to think it’s because I’m an amazing cook, which chef wouldn’t? But if I can just reign in my own wishful thinking, it’s more likely a combination of different factors in the way I run and deliver our service, but the only way to really know

We use a range of suppliers who we choose based on the quality of their produce, butchers include HG Walter in central London or “Nigel” who runs Ansells Butchers in Englefield Green, Rob at the Musselman fishmonger In Egham, Laura and Holly and the team at Kings Fine Foods for our caviar, Paul and his team at Laithwaites Wine in Virginia Water for our wines. We also have specialist suppliers for fresh truffle, all mostly family businesses, we’ve just started working with a local chap who grows micro green herbs to order for us, and vegetables we try and grow as much as we can on our allotment, but as we’ve been getting busier and busier finding the time to maintain our allotment has become a challenge so we’re currently trying to work out how to keep this going moving forward!

YOU CAME FROM A MILITARY BACKGROUND... HOW EASY WAS IT TO TRANSITION? There are a lot of parallels to the military and being a chef, for a start a team in a kitchen was traditionally called a brigade, which was based on the military concept of a brigade of men and women organised and run in

a disciplined manner to achieve a goal – kitchens are no different the chef de cuisine will organise his sous chefs the sous chefs will organise the chef de parties etc the discipline part comes in by working professionally and having your section ready for service in good time otherwise it will cause problems for the rest of the kitchen during service.

HOW DO YOU KEEP A COOL HEAD WHEN IT GETS HOT IN THE KITCHEN? Organisation, Organisation, Organisation!

And good communication with the people you’re working with will help you to get through the tougher days. I also find if you’re fairly organised and relaxed

in your life in general this can only be a positive that will influence how you manage stressful situations.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE DISH TO COOK? I get a lot of pleasure from cooking in general as you might expect, we supply Lobster Wellingtons to a local vender whose customers love them and these are quite satisfying to make, but anyone who knows me knows I am a complete “Italophile” I love the food the wine the culture the history so some of my favourite things to cook are very simple but delicious such as Chicken Milanese, Arancini (Ok arancini is Sicilian but it’s close to Italy) carbonara, or anything with seafood, Brill is my favourite fish.

I was told this one morning in 2002, I remember it very well, I was a sous chef at the Royal Western Yacht Club, the late HRH Prince Phillip was a patron of the club and was visiting, of course everything was going wrong the

delivery was late the oven refused to work and just to top it off the weather was horrendous. The commodore of the club walked through the kitchen could see we were having a few problems, looked at me and said “Just remember Shaun, everyday you wake up is a good day.” It’s one of those pieces of advice which years later you really understand what it meant, as in, you’ve been lucky enough to wake up to another day and each days challenges teach us and shape who we are.

MOST EMBARRASSING ITEM IN YOUR WARDROBE? One of those fancy dress lobster suits – think it was left over from my stag night!

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE GROWING UP? An architect – I always liked drawing and designing things, which probably explains my creative side which I now express through my cooking.

WHAT IS YOUR BEST CHARACTER TRAIT? I’m very calm under pressure.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST HABIT? I can be a bit of a perfectionist, which can make life much harder than it needs to be occasionally.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT LIVING IN SURREY? Growing up in Devon I was used to a lot of green open space, Surrey also has a lot of green space with the added advantage its only 45 minutes to central London, I find the people in Surrey are a fairly diverse mix of happy souls which adds to Surreys charm I feel, if it was a bit closer to the sea it would be perfect, but I guess you can’t have everything.
