“No Fun All Summer?” Molly-Mae claims, as fans roast the 26-year-old influencer and businesswoman for multiple luxury holidays.
Molly-Mae Hague has claimed in her latest YouTube vlog that she hasn’t done “one fun thing all summer” - a statement that’s been falling on deaf
However, her Instagram feed over the past few months tells a very different story.
From Wimbledon on July 1st, to St Tropez on June 15th, Disneyland Paris on May 26th, and a sun-soaked escape to Dubai’s Jumeirah Al Naseem on May 21st, it’s safe to say she’s been getting good use out of her private jet.

FOND FAREWELLS TO THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS
The world is mourning the loss of heavy metal icon, Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away at the age of 76. Just weeks after performing his final show in Birmingham with Black Sabbath, the band that made him a household name, Ozzy died surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday July 22nd.
“He loved what he did, he loved music,” said Black Sabbath co-founder Tony Iommi, remembering their final gig together. “It was brilliant for Ozzy because he really wanted to do thathe felt at home there.”
Bandmates and rock royalty flooded social media with heartfelt tributes. Geezer Butler wrote: “Goodbye dear friend… Four kids from Aston – who’d have thought, eh?”, while drummer Bill Ward added: “You’re forever in my heart.”
Metallica called him a “hero, icon, pioneer, inspiration… and most of all, friend,” while Foo Fighters said simply: “Rock and Roll would not be as loud or as fun without Ozzy.”
Sir Elton John shared: “A huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods — a true legend. Also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”
On stage in Cardiff, Alice Cooper dedicated his entire show to the Prince of Darkness: “The whole world is mourning Ozzy tonight… an unmatched showman and cultural icon.”
Even younger stars paid their respects. Yungblud, who joined Black Sabbath on stage earlier this month, posted: “Legend. I didn’t think you would leave so soon.” And Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day said simply: “No words. We love you, Ozzy.”

PAMELA & LIAM OFF-SCREEN ROMANCE GAINING MOMENTUM
Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson turned heads and raised eyebrows at the premiere of their new film ‘The Naked Gun’. With months of romantic rumours swirling, the two stars collided with their recent public display of affection.
And it wasn’t just their chemistry catching attention. Pamela, 58, dazzled in a deep purple strapless gown with a dramatic train, paired with diamond jewels and her signature soft-glam curls. Liam, 73, opted for a textured grey suit and black shirt — effortlessly dashing as always. But it was their undeniable attraction to one another that stole the show. From shared laughs to a sweet kiss on the cheek, the two looked inseparable throughout the night.
Fans have been speculating their off-screen romance for a while, especially after Liam told ‘People’ that he was "madly in love" with the former Baywatch star. “She’s just terrific to work with,” he said. “No huge ego… she’s funny and so easy to work with. She’s going to be terrific in the film.”
Pamela echoed the praise in her own interview, revealing Liam was every inch the gentleman on set, even giving her his coat when she was cold. “He brings out the best in you with respect, kindness and depth of experience,” she said. In return? She baked him homemade bread and cookies. The perfect recipe for on-screen and maybe off-screen sparks.
This could signal a real turning point for Pamela — who, in her 2023 Netflix documentary Pamela, A Love Story, revealed she still felt tied to her “one and only” true love: ex-husband Tommy Lee. In a heartfelt letter shared in the film, she confessed that no one had truly replaced the Mötley Crüe rocker.
But now, with Liam by her side and a new lightness in her step, fans are hoping this might be the new love story Pamela deserves — one grounded in mutual respect, gentleness, and a bit of Hollywood sparkle. After decades in the spotlight, it seems Pamela is finally turning the page — and Liam could be the next chapter.

RECIPE
CHICKEN SOUVLAKI
This ‘BBC Good Food Guide’ recipe is perfect for those hot Summer nights and transports you right back to your Greek holiday. Make sure you marinate the chicken for these spiced kebabs for as long as possible to soak up all the flavour and make it really tender. Serve with warm bread, salad and homemade tzatziki.
INGREDIENTS:
(Serves 4 – Takes 45 mins)
• 12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
• For the marinade:
• 4 tbsp olive oil
• 2 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tsp dried mint
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tsp coriander
• 1 tsp sweet paprika
• ½ tsp ground cinnamon
• zest and juice 1 lemon
• 4 garlic cloves crushed
FOR THE PITTA WRAPS:
• 250g strong white bread flour
• 7g sachet fast-action dried yeast
• 1 tsp golden caster sugar
• 2 tsp olive oil
• For the tzatziki:
• ½ cucumber
• 200g Greek yogurt
• small bunch mint
• 1 small garlic clove crushed
• juice ½ lemon
TO SERVE:
• 1 butter or round lettuce
• 4 large tomatoes seeds removed, chopped
• 1 red onion halved and thinly sliced
METHOD:
1. Tip the chicken into a large bowl and add the marinade ingredients, along with 1 tsp salt and plenty of black pepper. Mix well, ensuring each thigh is well coated. Cover and chill for at least 3 hrs, or up to 48 hrs if you have time.
Step 2
2. A few hours before you want to eat, make the pitta. In a bowl, mix the flour, yeast, sugar and 1/ 2 tsp salt with your fingertips. Add 150ml lukewarm water and 2 tsp olive oil and combine to a dough. Tip onto a work surface and knead for 8-10 mins (or use a tabletop mixer for 5 mins). Clean, then lightly oil your bowl, return the dough and cover loosely with cling film. Leave to rise for 1 hr or until nearly doubled in size.
3. Divide the dough into four equal pieces. Roll out to circles, as thin as you can. Cover with sheets of oiled cling film and leave to rise for 15-20 mins.
4. To make the tzatziki, halve the cucumber lengthways and scoop out the seeds. Finely chop, then combine with the remaining ingredients, along with a pinch of salt. Chill until ready to serve.
5. Heat the grill to its highest setting. Line a roasting tin with foil and find 4 metal skewers long enough to sit across the top with a little space underneath. Remove the chicken from the fridge, take one thigh and thread it over 2 skewers, so it has a skewer through either side. Thread another piece of chicken on top, leaving a slight gap between each piece; you should fit 6 thighs on each pair of skewers. Position the skewers on top of the roasting tin and set aside while you finish the pittas.
6. Heat a large frying pan (or two if you have them) over a medium-high heat and
brush the breads with oil. Gently lift one into the pan. It should sizzle, and bubbles should appear on the surface after 1-2 mins. When the underside is golden, flip it and cook for another 2-3 mins. Continue until all the breads are cooked, wrapping them in foil as you go. Keep the bread warm in the bottom of the oven while you cook the chicken. Alternatively, cook on the barbecue for 5-8 mins, turning occasionally.
7. Put the chicken under the hot grill and cook for 15-20 mins, brushing with oil and any juices from the bottom of the tin regularly, and turning halfway through cooking. Once cooked, remove from the oven and rest for 5 mins.
8. Cut through each pair of skewers to make four kebabs and serve in the warm bread, with lettuce, tomato, red onion, lemon wedges and tzatziki.
WINE MATCH
A good wine choice for this delightful chicken souvlaki recipe, would be a versatile white wine with good acidity, like a Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or even an Assyrtiko (a Greek white wine), would be a great choice. If you prefer red, a light-bodied Pinot Noir or a fruity Beaujolais can also compliment the spicy chicken flavours.
MOVIE REVIEW ALBUM REVIEW BOOK REVIEW
THE NAKED GUN
This action-comedy reprisal of the 80’s classic ‘The Naked Gun’ is definitely going to be the blockbuster film of the Summer, with comedic genius Seth Rogan producing, Akiva Schaffer directing and Liam Neeson starring as the deadpan Detective Frank Drebin Jr.
The plotline sees Frank Jr. following in the footsteps of his bumbling father and must solve a murder case to prevent the LA. police department from shutting down.
His comedic mishaps involve shooting out a restaurant to get to the toilet with a nasty bout of “the runs”, wearing a girl’s school uniform and strawberry knickers whilst hurling lollipops in his enemies mouth and letting a prison full of fellons out of jail by mistakenly tearing down a wall in his getaway car.
Also starring the charismatic and comedic ‘Baywatch’ actress Pamela Anderson as Frank Jr.’s love interest.
The first reactions for ‘The Naked Gun’ have landed, with the film being compared favourably to its predecessors. The film comes exactly 31 years after the previous third instalment, ‘Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult’ in 1994.
A reporter for Variety Magazine wrote: "The Naked Gun is so deliciously stupid, and I mean that as the highest compliment. Very true to the spirit of the Leslie Nielsen movies I grew up loving!”
Enjoy the out and out stupidity and slapstick comedy that the new ‘The Naked Gun’ movie offers in spades!

AVA MAX: POP ROYALTY
US pop sensation Ava Max was born Amanda Koci on February 16th 1994 and her meteoric rise to fame has captivated music lovers worldwide. Known for her bold style, powerhouse vocals and infectious pop tunes like ‘Sweet But Psycho’ - Ava has quickly become one of the defining voices of contemporary pop music. Her unique artistry combines elements of empowerment, vulnerability and creativity, making her a standout presence in an industry brimming with cookie cutter talent.
EARLY LIFE & INFLUENCES
Ava was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Albanian immigrant parents. Her upbringing was steeped in the rich heritage of her family's culture, and this background has profoundly influenced her music and identity as an artist. From a young age, Ava demonstrated exceptional vocal talent and a passion for performing. Her parents, who themselves had an appreciation for music, encouraged her to pursue her dreams.
Moving to Virginia at the age of eight, Ava's musical journey began with performances at local events and talent competitions. Her early influences ranged from classic pop icons like Madonna and Britney Spears to powerhouse vocalists such as Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. These inspirations helped Ava craft a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking, blending timeless pop sensibilities with a modern edge.
BREAKTHROUGH & CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Ava's breakout moment came with the release of her chart-topping single ‘Sweet but Psycho’ back in 2018. The song became a global phenomenon, topping the charts in over 20 countries and earning multi-platinum certifications. Its catchy hooks, relatable lyrics and Ava's dynamic delivery resonated with listeners, propelling her into the spotlight.
Ava released her debut album, ‘Heaven & Hell’ in 2020. The album featured a collection of empowering tracks, including hits like ‘Kings & Queens’ and ‘Who's Laughing Now.’
‘Heaven & Hell’ showcased her versatility as an artist, blending soaring anthems with introspective ballads. The album was praised for its cohesive theme, exploring the dichotomy of Ava’s emotions and experiences.
Her second studio album ‘Diamonds & Dancefloors’ (released in January 2023) was also met with critical acclaim with hits including ‘Maybe You’re The Problem’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby.’ The album conveyed messages of empowerment, self-love and resilience and showed Ava's ability to connect with her audience on a personal
level as well as providing uplifting tracks mixed with a cool, 80’s pop beat.
However, Ava is more than just her music - she has become a cultural phenomenon. Her signature hairstyle, dubbed the "Max Cut," became an emblem of her individuality and refusal to conform to stereotypes. This trademark platinum haircut (she also dabbled with a daring pilar box red shade!) compliments her bold and unapologetic approach to artistry, earning her a dedicated fan base often referred to as the "Avatars."
Her striking beauty is undeniable too and many music journalists have suggested that she is well on track to reach the global superstar status of her icons; Britney and Madonna.
COLLABS & NEW MATERIAL
Ava has collaborated with numerous artists and producers, further expanding her artistic reach. From working with Cirkut, her longtime producer, to featuring on tracks with other pop and EDM artists, Ava continues to push creative boundaries. Her collaborations have brought out new facets of her musicality, demonstrating her ability to adapt and innovate.
This August Ava is releasing her third album entitle, ‘Don’t Click Play’. Although the new album is still firmly rooted in her signature pop style, some tracks are much slower than it's predecessors.
She also teased on her socials that fans would find out "very soon" who the next album is about, stating that this person was in her "closest circle of friends.”
Fans speculate that this person is Madison Love, a woman who Max has recently unfollowed before posting about betrayal. She has also definitely explored with more experimental sounds in ‘Don’t Click Play’ while maintaining the infectious pop essence that defines her work.
Ava said of the album and her personal life: “I've personally been through so much again this year and it's been an even bigger emotional ride than last year. This year was one of the best and one of the worst years of my life. The album reflects this.”
Ava has indeed carved out her unique space in the music industry with her honest and emotive lyrics. Her music resonates deeply with fans around the world, and she continues to inspire a new generation of artists and listeners. As she ascends to even greater heights, we are sure that Ava will remain a shining star in the ever-evolving universe of pop music.
Her new album, ‘Don’t Click Play’- released through Atlantic Records, is out on August 22nd.

SUMMER BEAUTY SURVIVAL GUIDE
Surrey Rocks presents the ultimate beauty guide for men, women and children this Summer. As the sun begins to shine and temperatures rise, your skincare deserves a seasonal upgrade too. Whether you are beach-hopping, travelling or simply being outdoors, high temperatures, UV exposure and humidity are all factors that affect your skin’s health. But with us, you are in luck, because four of Surrey’s top health & beauty experts have shared their go-to advice, and we are rounding it all up in this exclusive guide for you.
EXPERT ADVICE FOR ALL
1. HYDRATION IS NONNEGOTIABLE
Hot weather leads to fluid loss through sweat, and your skin can quickly become dehydrated. Make sure to keep those water levels topped up by drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. If you are succumbing to a few Summer nights out drink a glass of water between each alcoholic drink so you do not become too dehydrated. As well as drinking plenty of water - use topical hydrators like hyaluronic acid to keep skin plump and supple.
2. SUNSCREEN EVERY DAY (YES, EVEN ON CLOUDY DAYS)
UV damage is cumulative and can lead to premature ageing, pigmentation and even skin cancer. Broad-spectrum SPF is your first line of defence. Always carry a travel-size SPF in your bag for reapplication. Don’t forget the lips and ears - they’re common spots for sunburn and are often overlooked. Powder or spray SPFs make reapplying over make-up easy.
For daily protection, lightweight sunscreens like La RochePosay Anthelios SPF 50+ provide reliable, broad-spectrum defence, while SPF mists and powders, including Supergoop! Refreshing Mist and Colorescience Brush-On Shield, make top-ups effortless throughout the day.
3. KEEP IT FRESH & LIGHT
The importance of your daily skincare routine cannot be emphasised enough! So, make sure to take care of your skin with lightweight cleansers such as CeraVe Foaming Cleanser, La Roche-Posay Toleriane, or Avène’s face products such as Gentle Cleansing Milk or Foam Wash. These will help keep your skin purified and clear, without stripping moisture.
4. MAINTAIN A SKIN-FRIENDLY DIET
Make sure to eat foods that are rich in antioxidants (berries, leafy greens, omega-3s found in salmon and nuts). These will cleanse your skin inside out, giving you a fresh glow.
No Summer beauty routine is complete without a radiant glow and healthy hair care. Remember nourishing the skin from the inside will show on the outside.
5. GET THAT GLOW
For a safe, bronzed finish, self-tanning drops like Isle of Paradise or express mousses such as Bondi Sands Aero Express are this season’s must-haves. Many salons now offer spray tanning treatments, delivering flawless, even results in just one session. This is a great treatment to do before
holidays or for special occasions. Gradual tanning treatments combined with nourishing body oils, such as Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Shimmering Dry Oil or Fenty Beauty Body Lava, create a luminous finish without sun exposure.
6. HOT HAIR THIS SUMMER
Hair also needs its fair share of attention in Summer. Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil or Moroccan Oil Protect & Prevent Spray shield strands from UV rays, while hydrating masks from Olaplex and Kérastase Soleil restore shine after sun, salt and chlorine exposure. And do not forget to use heat protector if you are styling your hair using heat.
The Revlon UNIQONE All In One Hair Treatment Classic is highly recommendable. This product offers 10 benefits in a single spray, including heat protection, frizz control, UV filters for colour protection, and deep repair for soft, shiny and manageable hair.
7. COOL CUSTOMER
Add hydrating face mists, cooling eye gels and SPF lip balms like Sol de Janeiro Lip Butter to complete your fresh, sun-safe summer routine. Popular eye treatments like the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Hydra-Gel Eye Patches and Patchology Flash Patch Eye Gels help soothe tired, puffy eyes after long days in the sun. Store them in the fridge for an extra cooling effect. The classic cucumber on your eyes will also never fail you!
FOR WOMEN: HYDRATION,
GLOW & PREVENTION
Dr. Chandni from the Dr Chandni Aesthetics and Wellness Clinic highlights the importance of switching to lightweight, breathable products that nourish without overwhelming the skin. She recommends cult favourites like SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic for antioxidant protection and Obagi Sunshield SPF 50 for broad-spectrum coverage.
Are you looking for a skin reset?
If yes, then Dr. Chandni advises a “Hydrafacial combined with LED Therapy”. This is a treatment that deeply cleanses, exfoliates and hydrates the skin while LED light reduces inflammation and boosts collagen. It is ideal for a pre-holiday glow-up!
For deeper skin rejuvenation, Dr. Chandni offers advanced
treatments like “Microneedling with Exosomes”, which enhances collagen production and improves texture by allowing stem cell-derived exosomes to deeply penetrate the skin. Additionally, Skin Boosters and Polynucleotides offer powerful hydration and cellular repair, which is perfect for restoring radiance and skin health at a deeper level.
Seema Vohra from Skins by S recommends special treatments tailored to beat the heat. Say goodbye to sweat patches with their “Preventative Sweat Defense” Botox/Dysport treatment, a discreet fix for excessive sweating under the arms or hands that lasts between three to six months. This is an absolute Summer gamechanger.
To combat congestion and dullness, Skins by S offers “LED Light Therapy”, giving you a personalised boost: blue light calms acne-prone skin, while red light stimulates collagen and soothes sun-stressed complexions.
If you are looking for clear and radiant skin, then opt for a “Light Chemical Peel” this Summer. Seema from Skins By S advises against strong peels because they can cause sensitivity under sun exposure. A light chemical peel is perfect for the season, as it will brighten dark spots and refine texture without over-sensitising the skin.
Are you seeking a more natural path to glowing and youthful skin? Surinder Lall from Holistic Reflexology has the perfect treatment for you “The Natural Face Lift” is your ticket to fresh, younger-looking skin - no needles, no fillers, just real results!
With a unique blend of facial reflexology, Gua Sha and crystal healing, each session smooths, lifts and relaxes you deeply. When you commit to the 12-week journey, you will see your features become more sculpted, your skin brighten and your confidence soar. It is perfect if you want to look your best for any occasion, whether it is part of your well-being journey or a special occasion. You can book in weekly, or even twice a week if you are eager to boost your results.
Healing visualisations are occasionally thrown into the programme - a treat for your mind and body. It’s a comprehensive and beautifully relaxing therapy. Inspired by the Zone Face Lift method developed by Ziggie Bergman, this holistic treatment draws on techniques studied around the world - from Japan to Native American healing traditions. “The Zone Face Lift 12-Week Programme” isn’t just another beauty treatment - it is an uplifting experience. Treat yourself and discover how amazing you can look and feel, naturally.
As a special bonus, clients who book the 12-week programme in the next three months (August – November 2025) and mention “SurreyRocksAugust” will receive a complimentary Zone Face Lift Gua Sha tool – you will be able to choose from a sculpting tool or a mushroom, both crafted from non-toxic materials.
FEATURES
FOR MEN: KEEP IT SIMPLE, SMART & SWEAT-FREE
Men’s skincare is just as important as women’s but is often neglected or overlooked – but don’t worry because we have got your back here too!
Dr Chandni lists her top product picks for men:
• Obagi CLENZIderm M.D. Daily Care Foaming Cleanser: Targets excess oil and clears pores - great for active Summer days or post-workout refresh.
• SkinCeuticals Physical Fusion UV Defence SPF 50: Lightweight, tintedand water-resistant, this mineral sunscreen blends easily and offers powerful broadspectrum protection.
• Obagi Hydrate Light: A lightweight hydrator clinicallyproven to replenish hydration for 24 hours, that is oil-free, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, and revitalizes the skin’s moisture barrier for overall skin health.
Further treatment recommendations made by our experts include Microdermabrasion or Chemical Peels. This is ideal for men looking to reduce sun damage, acne scars or rough texture; these low-downtime treatments refine skin texture and even tone.
Equally efficient is also the Botox/Dysport treatment resulting in sweat reduction, which will help men stay fresh, sweat-free and confident this Summer.
FOR CHILDREN: GENTLE CARE IS BEST
When it comes to children, the skin needs to be protected and taken care of gently.
• Use mineral-based sunscreens like Obagi Sun Shield SPF 50 and reapply regularly, especially after water play.
• UV-protective clothing and sunhats work as extra protection.
• Infants should be kept in the shade.
• Dr. Chandni recommends SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Mist to soothe redness or irritation after sun exposure.
• Use a mild face cleanser to finish off the day. This will keep young skin clean and calm without over-drying.
Surrey Rocks has you covered this Summer with expert beauty advice for every age. From skincare essentials to professional treatments, we have made sure that you have the most optimal tips from Surrey’s leading specialists - so you can enjoy the season looking and feeling your best.

PADEL POWER - THE RAPID RISE OF A SOCIAL SPORT IN SURREY
Move over tennis and squash, there’s a new racquet sport captivating Surrey, and it’s not just a fleeting trend. Padel, a dynamic blend of tennis and squash, has taken the county by storm. From purpose-built clubs to additions at traditional racquet venues, this fast-paced, social game is drawing players of all ages and skill levels.
WHAT IS PADEL, AND WHY NOW?
Originating in Mexico in the 1960s, padel has grown into the fastest-growing sport in the world, especially booming in Spain, Italy, and Argentina. Played in doubles on an enclosed glass-walled court about a third the size of a tennis court, it combines strategic play with high-energy rallies. What makes padel uniquely attractive is its accessibility. Minimal technique is needed to get started, yet the tactical depth keeps players hooked for years. In Surrey, padel's presence is expanding rapidly. Both Ezee Padel in Weybridge and Ashtead Squash, Tennis and Padel introduced courts around 2020 and neither have looked back since. “Globally, padel is a game which anyone can learn to play in a short space of time,” says Peter, the founder of Ezee Padel. “It ticks all the boxes for physical and mental health, plus it's just fun to play.”
adults alike. Unlike more technically demanding sports like squash or tennis, padel’s learning curve is surprisingly gentle.
“We’ve seen everyone from juniors to players over 80 years of age picking up a racquet,” says Ezee Padel.
Over in Ashtead, club chairman Mike explains, “We had a lady in her late 40’s who had never played a racquet sport. She started with coaching, got hooked and three years later now represents the club in Surrey interclub matches. That success can only breed more success.”
FROM NOVELTY TO NECESSITY
Since opening its panoramic courts nestled in the greenbelt, Ezee Padel has seen such overwhelming demand that it’s had to close off new memberships. Ashtead's padel court also went from a novelty to a high-traffic hotspot.
A SPORT THAT’S BREAKING BOUNDARIES
One of padel's most remarkable features is how it attracts a diverse demographic - families, couples, juniors, and older
“We went from a handful of players at the start to several hundred by 2025,” notes Ashtead. “We really need another court now!”
Foxhills Country Club in Ottershaw has also extended its padel power and has three courts now. Foxhills’ Country Club and Full Members receive access to a comprehensive schedule of group padel coaching sessions for all ages and abilities.
They also offer the chance to play socially and competitively with teams in local leagues and regular in-house tournaments and mixers. They run lots of events and competitions including the Club Championships Finals and Festival of Racquets as well as regular padel open days so guests can try out the sport.
Part of padel’s appeal is its social aspect. Clubs regularly host club nights, tournaments and coaching sessions. These aren't just for seasoned players; beginners are welcomed with open arms and find themselves part of a community from day one.
“We run a tournament every two months and regular exhibitions,” adds Ezee Padel. “Our Friday friendly and even a recent Padel Dance session showed how much fun people are having with it.”
THE SURREY SURGE
While Scotland was early to the padel party in the UK, Surrey is quickly catching up and now may be leading the charge in southern England. According to both clubs, the sport is reshaping how people approach racquet sports.
“Surrey was slow to get going,” admits Ashtead, “but is now one of the leading counties in the UK. Demographics work in our favour, close to London, good access and clubs are investing.”
Sporting bodies like the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Sport England have been pivotal in padel’s development. Elmbridge and Mole Valley councils have
also provided key support in getting courts approved and built. However, the rise hasn’t been without hurdles.
“Planning permission has become more difficult,” says Ezee Padel, citing noise concerns in residential areas. Ashtead echoes this: “Padel noise can be intrusive. We do our best to mitigate it.” Despite the occasional challenge, both clubs are confident that padel is here to stay.
“It has already started to impact tennis and squash,” notes Ezee Padel. “How juniors are introduced to all three in the future will determine which sports take top spot.”
Ashtead sees it differently: “It’s an additional sport, not a replacement. Members still play squash or tennis, but padel gives them more variety, and that can only be good.”
FACILITIES THAT SERVE MORE THAN SPORT
Padel’s rise has also helped revitalise local clubs. At Ashtead, the introduction of padel has boosted total club membership by around 40%, many from the local area.
“It’s helped us build a stronger sense of community,” says Ashtead. “We’ve even had Chelsea FC players take part in events here!”
Ezee Padel, meanwhile, is giving back by offering free access to U3A (University of the Third Age) members and running regular inclusive sessions.
Both clubs offer strong coaching
programmes and social events, ensuring that whether you’re a beginner or an aspiring competitor, there’s a place for you on court.
WHY YOU SHOULD PICK UP A PADEL RACQUET
For those still wondering if it’s worth trying, the message from both clubs is clear: just give it a go.
“It is as simple as dropping the ball and hitting it over the net,” says Ezee Padel.
Ashtead adds, “Have no fear. It’s extremely easy to pick up, especially with good coaching. It’s been labelled the fastest growing sport in the world, and it’s easy to see why.”
FINAL WORD
Padel isn’t just a sport, it’s a movement. With accessibility, fun and community at its core, it’s no surprise that Surrey is quickly becoming a UK hotspot. Whether you're a former athlete, a total novice, or simply curious, there’s never been a better time to step onto the glass-walled court and discover what all the buzz is about.

RANSOM – 10 YEARS AND ROCKING
Not only will you see Surrey-based rock band Ransom playing classic covers in your local boozer or club venue, you can also find them playing original material at gigs and festivals across the country, supporting the likes of Skid Row, The Darkness, Girlschool, Massive Wagons, Ugly Kid Joe and the Gypsy Pistoleros to name but a few. ‘Bringing the stadium rock experience to a local venue near you’ was always the strapline for this hardworking 4-piece classic rock band, armed with a wealth of new, exciting covers and original material. With a killer, tight live set (honed from doing the hard yards week in week out around London and the home counties pub and club circuit) this band are always hungry and ready to ‘Raise some hell at any level!’ This year Ransom celebrate their 10 year anniversary. And what a decade it has been, aptly described as ‘Blood Sweat and Beers!’ by the formidable fourpiece! Read our exclusive interview with the hardest working band in rock here.
GREAT TO CATCH YOU GUYS AGAIN, HOW HAVE YOU BEEN?
We’ve been busy! Still playing gigs almost every Friday and Saturday for most of this year.
CAN YOU TELL US BRIEFLY ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND WHAT’S ALL THIS 10 YEARS OF “BLOOD SWEAT AND BEERS” ABOUT THEN?
Ransom started 10 years ago, in 2015, as I wanted to have a busy and successful covers band in our area (SW London/ Surrey borders). It was formed by myself and my then 16-yearold son Zach, with Will on drums and Bun Davis (who now sings with the Chris Slade timeline) on vocals. Bun sang with us for a couple of years, we then had a replacement vocalist – Alez (who now plays guitar for Doomsday Outlaw and Marrissa and the Moths) for another year or so before our current vocalist Matt joined us in 2018. Between 2018 and 2020 Ransom played
cover gigs almost every weekend. Then lockdown hit and we couldn’t play… so we decided we would keep ourselves from going insane (as we couldn’t play anywhere) by writing our own material. We started a Crowdfunder to raise enough money for the equipment we needed and to print some CDs, and first recorded ‘Locked Down in London’ and then our EP ‘Halfway to Hell’ - a spin off on AC/DCs song and us feeling like we were halfway to hell trapped at home! (It also had the tracks ‘Vindication’, ‘Colour Blind’ and ‘No Gender Offender’ on it.)
And in December 2020 we released our Christmas single ‘Hold you to Ransom’ filmed at Matt’s house. This track actually got us signed to a record label but unfortunately, they never did anything with it or us, shame that.
Will, our original drummer left at this time (as he didn’t want to write or play his own material) and we did most of the recording in a small studio we built at home. Our bassist Zach had done a production degree at ACM and so with his talent we were able to do all of it ourselves including drum programming. At the start of 2021 we found another drummer, Zippy (Lee), who on hearing the EP was instantly a part of the band.
In March 2022 we played our first originals set at CC7Reading, followed CC8 in October 2022. After that every few months we had originals gigs at Hard Rock Hell, Call of the
Wild, Firevolt - The Bootleg Ball and Rockmantic. As well as supporting Massive Wagons for their Patreon gig, and probably some others I can’t recall at the moment!
Later in 2022 we released our album ‘Back to the Boozer’ with a song written and titled especially for a mainstream radio presenter who told us our music was that of a pub band, and he wouldn’t be playing it on his radio show. This became our strapline for that year’s tour, which had over 80 gigs in pubs. We still play that song at every gig now and every person in every pub we play knows and loves it. Let’s face it most of the best UK bands I know started in pubs (some DJ’s know nothing!)
“Blood Sweat and Beers!” seemed appropriate for the bands 10 year anniversary, there has been a lot of blood and sweat but, thankfully, more beers than tears. We have come a long way as a band, every year we have a new T-shirt design with about 90 gig listings on the back, so every year we think of a new strapline and T-shirt design, works well for merch, keeps things fresh.
Our current line-up is as follows:
Matt Fielder: Vocals
Dave Barlow: Guitar
Zach Barlow: Bass Guitar
Zippy Lee: Drums
YOU SEEM TO BE PLAYING A HELL OF A LOT OF FESTIVALS THIS YEAR, WHAT DO YOU PREFER, THE MORE INTIMATE PUB GIG OR PLAYING IN FRONT OF A FESTIVAL CROWD?
DAVE: I think we do around 5-7 festivals a year, or thereabouts.
Both can have their own benefits but at the end of the day a gig is a gig to us and it doesn’t matter if it’s the Dog n Duck or Download we will give you the same full on, no holes barred show like our life depended on it, we work hard to put on a show and make sure that every person goes home with a big fat smile on their face.
I WAS SO PLEASED TO CATCH YOU AT PLANET ROCKSTOCK, NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE. HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?
DAVE: Matt does a great job talking to the festival organisers and promoting the band, I think he badgered Jon who organises Planet Rockstock but Jon was soon on board. Also we always submit every song to Planet Rock for airplay but after 13
songs nothing. BUT… we can’t complain we have played there twice in a row.
HOW DO YOU BOOK YOUR GIGS, DO YOU WORK WITH ANY PROMOTERS THAT YOU CAN RECOMMEND?
DAVE: In short … I book all the pub gigs and the ticket venues and deal with bookings from the venues that contact us (around 90 per year), sometimes from people recommending us (thank you if you’ve ever given a venue our business card or a recommendation). Matt contacts the festivals and their promoters to book them. There are fans that have also helped us get gigs, there are many so big thanks to them, they know who they are!
APART FROM THE FESTIVALS MENTIONED ABOVE, WHAT OTHER GIGS HAVE YOU GOT IN THE PIPELINE?
DAVE: We still have 63 gigs planned for the rest of this year… mostly cover gigs with some originals in and around our home area of SW London/ Surrey, but we also have ticketed originals gigs in venues in Leicester, Swindon and Hastings that we
are really excited about. (please go online and book them if in your area – the links are on both Facebook and lemonrock) See www. ransom.rocks/gigs too!
WHAT IS THE PROUDEST MOMENT IN YOUR MUSIC CAREER SO FAR?
DAVE: As a band, every gig we do is our proudest moment, we are sharing our music with the world.
ARE YOU WORKING ON ANY NEW MUSIC, ANY PLANS FOR A NEW RELEASE AT ALL?
DAVE: Yes, we have 4 songs ready to work on now. We have a method where myself and Zach come up with a basic musical template (which can be from a riff or idea from anyone in the band), the band then put in their input including Matt
adding vocals, then Zach arranges and formats it. When we have a rough idea we practice playing it, to see what works, then record that version roughly before recording properly with the individual instruments. We often do a couple of songs at a time, where we set up and record the drums at Zippy’s, then Zach records his bassline, me the guitar (both done at home) and then finally adding the vocals. This method works for us and helps us play the songs live so that they sound like our recordings.
WHAT SONG DO YOU WISH YOU'D WRITTEN AND WHY?
DAVE: Tough question, there are so many it would be impossible to choose and I cant speak for the rest of the band but there’s something about ‘Kathy Wilson’ by Wolfsbane, WHY? Because that really tickles me! LOL!!
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE MUSIC INDUSTRY, WHICH YOU WOULD CHANGE IF YOU COULD?
DAVE: There are many paths you can go down in the music industry and the cogs of this industry turn on multiple levels. If you don’t do your due diligence, you can get squeezed for every penny with little to show for it. Ransom have a way of working which benefits the band as a whole and also gives us the monetary breathing room to do things that might be a loss financially (but rewarding in other ways) but on the whole NOBODY in the band has to fork out any cash, the band funds itself.
WHERE CAN WE LEARN MORE ABOUT YOU AND BUY YOUR MUSIC/MERCH ONLINE, HAVE YOU ANY SOCIAL MEDIA LINKS THAT YOU CAN SHARE?
DAVE: The best way to learn about us and our music is to come to a gig and the best way to find our merch is to come to a gig. Our Tour T-shirt’s are one-off designs each year and we only sell them at gigs. Failing that our music is available on CD or all streaming platforms and you can also get other merch T-shirt designs, hats etc online, details below.
Our website www.ransom.rocks has our details, a ‘hot list’ where you can get up to date email info https://www.ransom. rocks/hotlist and where you can buy our CDs, hats and some T-shirt designs… but we have our tour T-shirts ONLY available at gigs (as well as hats and CDs)
WE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR RETURN TO CRAZY COWBOY EVENTS AT CC10 AT THE FACEBAR IN READING, WHAT CAN THE CROWD EXPECT FROM THE MIGHTY RANSOM THIS TIME?
DAVE: Rock, Metal, Infectious Conviction and a Cracking Singalong. But after we’ve played, if anyone wants to buy merch to support us we will have it on sale along with free photos that we are only too happy to sign. We also love just hearing your feedback, so do come and say Hello!

BORDELAISE
Having just opened in the heart of Epsom & Ewell, Bordelaise is a true celebration of French heritage and instantly transports you back to a bygone era of Southern French dining that is authentic, rustic and chic.
The restaurant layout is divided into several dining areas; one large room downstairs with low level beams and rustic charm and two smaller upstairs rooms - each with its own character and then you have an equally beautiful courtyard garden for al fresco dining. It is clear that great care has gone into every detail; from the hand-painted ceramics to fresh flowers and the avant garde, French inspired decor.
As someone who is in perpetual search of an authentic yet memorable French restaurant in Surrey, I was eager to see if this new offering would deliver on its promise of transporting guests to France – and it certainly did!
SAVOIR-FAIRE SERVICE
Upon arrival, we were met by the charming owners Olivier & Imogen - whose impeccable manners and warmth set the tone for the evening. We were asked whether we wanted to eat inside or choose to dine in their courtyard garden. As the weather was on our side, we chose the courtyard and were shown to our quaint table for two on the outdoor terrace.
All the staff at Bordelaise demonstrated a remarkable knowledge of both the menu, cocktail and wine list, offering thoughtful suggestions without a hint of pretension.
The cocktails we ordered to start were sublime; the ‘Honey Thyme Margarita’ was sweet but hit the spot with Tequila, Cointreau, Lime and Thyme Laced Honey and the ‘North
RESTAURANT REVIEW
African Rose’ consisting of Gin, Rose Liquer, Grapefruit, Cardamom and Lime was equally impressive and a really refreshing option for a hot Summer’s day.
Throughout the meal, service was attentive yet unobtrusive, with empty glasses swiftly refilled and courses arriving at a leisurely, unhurried pace. Thank you Imogen, Lena, Kacey and the rest of the Bordelaise front of house team for all your hard work! The restaurant was full on our visit - but you would not have known this by the impeccable service we received.
A CELEBRATION OF FRANCE
The Bordelaise Menu is a nod to classic French dining - with a few modern flourishes to keep things interesting. Starters range from the delicate - think ‘Salmon Tartare’ and ‘Truffled Beef Carpaccio’ - to the hearty, such as a robust ‘Classic French Onion Soup’ crowned with bubbling, gratinated cheese with a side of toast.
My fellow diner began with the ‘6 x Escargots’, each snail
RESTAURANT REVIEW
swimming in a verdant pool of garlic-parsley butter. The aroma was intoxicating, and the taste even more so - tender, earthy and rich without being overwhelming. I opted for the ‘French Cheese Selection’ on a rustic, wooden cheeseboard served with blue cheese, goats cheese and Emmental with a tangy onion relish and French baguette slices to accompany. It was divine.
MASTERFUL MAINS
Now for the main event, I was torn between the ‘Homemade Confit Duck Leg’ and the ‘Pan Fried Seabass,’ but ultimately could not resist the allure of the former.
The Duck arrived with skin crisped to a dark golden hue, atop a bed of petit pois a la Francaise, bacon lardons and a creamy purée sauce. Each bite was a revelation: the Duck was supple, moist and plentiful, the skin shatteringly crisp, and the puree sauce providing a sweet counterpoint.
order - medium-rare, as it should be - and sliced against the grain for maximum tenderness. The accompanying French Fries (cooked in Beef Dripping) were a lesson in perfection: golden, piping hot, and dusted with salt. A small bowl of blue garlic and cheese sauce and Bordelaise Jus completed this fabulous plate.
My companion’s choice, the ‘250 Gram Ribe Eye Steak’, was equally impressive. The Rib Eye was cooked precisely to
It is well worth mentioning that Bordelaise specialise in every steak going and offer ‘2-4-1 on Steak Main Courses’ every Tuesday night. As well as a delectable ‘500 Gram Cote De Bouef’ a ‘250 Gram Rump Steak’ a ‘200 Gram Flat Iron’ and a ‘200 Gram Onglet Steak’ you can ask your waiter for “More Cuts on the Board’ for a steak to suit every discerning tastebud.
And if Mussels are your thing be sure to visit on ‘Moules Frites Thursdays’ to get delicious, discounted Mussel Mains!
THE WINE LIST
One of Bordelaise’s crowning glories is its expertly curated wine list. There is an array of bottles and 500ml carafes, each carefully chosen to compliment the menu. We opted for a Rare Vineyards Roussillon Malbec to start, which was delicious and went perfectly with our Steak and Duck main courses. Prices are reasonable for the quality, with options catering to both the casual sipper and the seasoned wine connoisseur.
RESTAURANT REVIEW
THE SWEET FINALE
Although we were definitely filling up, we could not resist sampling from the dessert menu - a parade of French classics, each more tempting than the last. The ‘Tarte Tatin’ was a standout: caramelised apples melting atop a buttery, flaky pastry, served with a generous scoop of ice-cream. The ‘Triple Chocolate Dessert’ consisted of a rich and impossibly airy chocolate mousse on a crunchy chocolate biscuit base, topped with dark cherries and a side of freshly cut strawberries and dollop of whipped chocolate ganache. Yum!
For the traditionalist, the ‘Crème Brûlée’ was textbook, with a glassy, sugar crust giving way to a silken custard beneath. Or for a lighter dessert option the ‘Eton Mess’ that our next day table ordered (x 5 portions) looked delicious too.
MORE MEMORABLE MOMENTS
What sets Bordelaise apart is not simply the quality of its food or the beauty of its setting, but the thoughtful little touches that linger in memory long after the meal is over.
Bordelaise distinguishes itself not with gimmicks or extravagance, but with an unwavering dedication to authenticity and excellence. Whether you are a devoted French cuisine lover or simply in search of a memorable night out, this restaurant offers a little slice of French magic, right on your Surrey doorstep.
From your first glass of red wine to the final morsel of heavenly dessert, every aspect of the Bordelaise experience whispers care, craftsmanship and a genuine love of cuisine. For those seeking a culinary escape to France without ever boarding a plane, Bordelaise is a destination not to be missed. Look out for their Weekend Bottomless Brunches and Sunday Roasts launching soon.
Bon appétit!

Grilled to perfection by the TV presenters and Reigate’s recent Pub in the Park chefs - whose smoky Chimichurri recipe was out of this world! – our delectable delights were perfectly paired with wines from Domaine des Jeanne Winery and Thatchers Cider.
“We had such a fun day at the BBQ Shop with our lovely friends Napoleon Grills,” Sam & Shauna told me as we said our fond farewells. “It brought a tear to our eyes to see the OG Hang Fire lovers out in style. Thanks to everyone who came and ate and drank. Let’s do it all again soon!”

Your at-home retreat awaits
In a world that moves at full speed, finding moments of stillness is more important than ever. BoConcept invites you to embrace the Danish concept of hyggekrog—a cosy corner designed for comfort, calm, and disconnection from daily demands. Rooted in the tradition of Scandinavian well-being, hyggekrog is the inspiration behind BoConcept’s approach to the at-home retreat.
Creating your own sanctuary doesn’t require an entire room redesign. With just a few well chosen pieces, you can transform any space into a personal haven. Start with comfort-led design—BoConcept’s Bergamo sofa, with its deep, generous seating and relaxed, rounded silhouette, is made for slow living. Pair it with soft, tactile elements such as plush cushions and layered throws to invite warmth and texture into the space.
The soothing power of curves plays a key role in achieving a sense of calm. Statement pieces like the Bolzano sofa and Imola chair, with its sculptural, enveloping form, offer a cocoon-like effect—perfect for curling up with a book or
pausing with a cup of tea. For added harmony, opt for natural tones and materials that echo the outdoors, reinforcing a grounding, restorative atmosphere.
Light also plays an essential part in your well-being. BoConcept’s interior designers can help you maximise natural light and introduce mood-boosting accents, while made-to-measure curtains and blinds allow you to control brightness and privacy with ease.
Whether it’s a nook by the window, a softly lit corner of your living room, or a quiet outdoor spot, BoConcept’s collection supports the creation of restful environments designed for the way you live. This is not just about furniture—it’s about how you feel in your home. And with BoConcept, that feeling is one of comfort, calm, and joy.
To discover more ways to design for comfort, visit BoConcept Guildford at 89 Woodbridge Road, or find them on the 2nd Floor at Fenwick Kingston. You can also explore the full collection and get inspired online at BoConcept.com.

At Jonathan Rowlandson Design we have provided a unique design and build service for a range of clients for over 20 years. With an emphasis on innovative, contemporary design solutions we have risen to the challenge of every project, interior or exterior. Combining our unique approach to metal items with wood, glass, stone, and other materials. At JRD we offer a range of furniture items including the Otolo range. We also design and produce items sympathetic to their environment, be it a rustic bar restaurant with an artisan feel – normally providing seating, counters, bars, lighting, signage, etc. such as Dog Star Brixton – or one-off sculptural items such as the tables for Vivienne Westwood. Our inspiration will often come from the clients’ desires, as well as tapping into nature and art to find a suitable solution. Hardly any 2 projects are the same, we continue to provide new and hopefully better designs.
