EDITOR’S NOTE

Hello Surrey,

Welcome to the 2026 Issue of Surrey Rocks Magazine where we bring you the latest news, reviews and features for the year ahead.

Surrey really does have it all...beautiful countryside, villages steeped in history and the most valuable homes outside of London. We have produced music and film legends including Eric Clapton, Paul Weller, Tom Hardy and Julie Andrews. We also have HG Wells, Sir Christopher Wren, Virginia Woolf and Enid Blyton, to name (drop!) a few Surrey authors and politicians. But in this issue, we are tackling - football pun intended - the top 8 Surrey Athletes that were born and bred in Surrey on pages 46-55.

We also got to catch up with Hollywood icon Dolph Lundgren for our exclusive cover star interview discussing everything from his bromance with Sylvester Stallone in 'Rocky IV' and 'The Expendables', his illustrious acting career and those all-important health and fitness tips.

It's an adventurous year for fashion seeing cool indigo denim, oversized knits and flicking fringing sashaying down the SS/26 catwalks. Plus, would you dare to bare in the new "outerwear as underwear" lace trend that's popping up everywhere? Only for the brave!! Like singer Kim Wilde who reveals her "wilder side" in this issue's 60 Second Interview, where she could have done with underwear after locking herself out of a hotel room naked on tour! Read all about it on pages 122-123.

And we thought you'd like to hear the good news – we have raised £2,468 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, in association with the Surrey Awards and Surrey Fashion Week, thanks to Surrey Rocks Magazine, Angela Sara West, Daniella Barron and of course your unwavering input and support.

Hope you enjoy reading,

Sam

JANUARY 2026

CELEBRITIES

everyone’s talking about...

DAKOTA JOHNSON’S HOT NEW ROLE

Dakota Johnson has moved on after her wellpublicised break up with Coldplay’s Chris Martin and has been seen on a string of dates with ‘Going Out’ rapper Role Model – real name

MODEL

The duo were pictured out at a cocktail bar called Vandell and again at a cozy dinner in LA and could barely keep their hands off each other, according to onlookers.

The ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ star, aged 36, previously dated Coldplay frontman Chris Martin for 8 years.

They eventually broke up in June 2025 after being engaged since 2020. Martin has since reportedly moved on and has been seeing ‘Game of Thrones’ actress Sophie Turner since the break-up.

US musician, Role Model, 8 years’ Dakota’s Johnson junior, is considered one of the hottest new music talents of 2026 and has recently broken into acting.

We hope this one does the distance as Dakota, daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, has always said she wanted to get married and have children.

RICKY GERVAIS PRAISES WORKING CLASSES

British comedian Ricky Gervais has said it’s great that he can mock the working classes as he never gets any backlash.

He revealed in a BBC Radio 4 podcast: "People understand most power struggles. They understand why racism, homophobia and misogyny are wrong, but they are very disparaging about the working classes. It's the one thing that it seems to be fine to take the mickey out of with no blowback at all."

"You're a product of your time and you do make things for people of your time. I'd put trigger warnings on things, but I wouldn't go back and change something. Do I regret anything? No. Would I do things differently now? Probably."

One person who does hold regret is ‘The Office’ producer Ash Atalla, who claimed earlier this year that he felt he "sold a bit of himself" when he allowed Ricky to poke fun at his disability. When accepting the award for ‘The Office’, Ricky joked that Ash, who is in a wheelchair, “was the show's

He also made reference to him as "my little wheelchair friend" and joked that Ash was the same as Stephen Hawking "but without all the clever stuff."

MEGA-CHORING SAGA CONTINUES

Former royal and Hollywood impresario, Meghan Markle, is coming under fire (again!) for stealing a designer dress from a magazine photoshoot.

Not short of a bob or two, the former Duchess was pictured wearing the Green Galvan Designer Dress for a shoot in Variety Magazine in 2022. The ‘said dress’ mysteriously went missing after the shoot. No one could explain it “vanishing into thin air!” when it was signed out to Meghan for just a few hours on the set.

Three years on, eagle-eyed fashionistas picked up that Meghan was wearing the same £1,300 Emerald Green Designer Dress in her promo for the special of her upcoming Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan.’

Any head scratching required here? There’s no smoke without fire… they say!

Adding weight to the story is acclaimed New York Times Journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis, who gave an exclusive interview to the ‘Heretics Podcast’ in March last year – outlining the Meghan stealing allegations.

“Meghan did not return ‘a lot of stuff’ from ‘a very high-profile photo shoot,’” she admitted in the interview. Hilarious!

Meghan’s spokesperson hit back at the recent accusations saying: "The insinuation that any items were taken without the full knowledge and agreement of the on-set stylists or their respective teams is not only categorically false but also highly defamatory. Any items kept were done so in total transparency and in accordance with contractual arrangements."

Newsweek butted in with the quote, “Working royals are required to pay a discounted rate for any clothes they keep and are not permitted to accept free handouts.” Stealing OK then?!

THE MOLOTOVS BIG ISSUE GIG

CELEBS REVEALED IN HCP FESTIVAL LINE-UP

David Gray, Nile Rodgers, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Pete Tong and OMD, are the first artists announced for 2026's Hampton Court Palace Festival. Taking place between 9th – 20th June, the festival will once again bring live music to the historic grounds of the famous Tudor Palace.

David Gray will perform 2 shows on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th June. One of the most influential singer songwriters of his generation, he released his breakthrough album ‘White Ladder’ in 1998 which went on to become the tenth best-selling album of the 21st century.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor's ‘Palace Disco’ will light up the palace on Friday 19th June. While DJ, broadcaster and dance music legend Pete Tong brings his acclaimed Ibiza Classics with The Essential Orchestra to Hampton Court Palace Festival on Saturday 13 June.

This unmissable one-off show is a breathtaking audio-visual celebration of Ibiza's iconic dance anthems, blending the pulse of club culture with the power and precision of a live orchestra. Synth-pop acts OMD will make their Hampton Court Palace debut on Friday 12th June. More acts to be announced shortly. For tickets see www.hamptoncourtpalacefestival.com

The Molotovs and the Big Issue put on a spectacular, impromptu gig for hundreds of shoppers in support of the charity's 'Stop, Talk and Support' campaign.

The band, consisting of siblings Matt and Issey Cartlidge, 17 and 19, played songs from their forthcoming debut album ‘Wasted On Youth’ as they encouraged passersby in Soho to meet Big Issue vendors like Paul and Terry.

The UK band have been championed by the likes of Sex Pistols and Green Day, and dancing and pogoing broke out as crowds of onlookers celebrated the fab live music event. The campaign was launched with the single-shot video 'Issues We Face' in which vendors in nearby Oxford Street shared their personal and relatable stories.

Matt from the Molotovs said: "The Big Issue does an amazing job at helping people but it's down to the rest of us to make sure vendors, just like everyone else, are true parts of the community. It takes so little time to stop and have a chat with someone but too often we all just walk past with our eyes fixed on our phone or the street ahead. We all need, more often, to 'stop, talk and support'."

The Big Issue addresses poverty by enabling homeless and vulnerable people to earn money selling its weekly magazine.

INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY

On November 19th International Men’s Day celebrates the positive value men bring to the world, their families and community. We interviewed 5 inspiring Surrey Men to give their take on what it’s like to be a positive male role model. BB winner, entrepreneur and philanthropist Jason Burrill said, “Noone is going to help you if you don't want to help yourself. There are too many people in this world who are out for themselves, are selfish or will let you down. Only you can decide your own fate. DO NOT GIVE UP. Make

Nicholas Mark Dulake, founder & Creator of Start Again Monday - S.A.M. said “I found a whole new meaning to hitting rock bottom in February 2024, deciding that suicide was the only option I had. However, having died four times and been in an induced coma for five weeks, transferred between three different hospitals over the course of three months, I now live with the life changing consequences of my actions. This being not only mentally but physically, having been fitted with a tracheostomy having paralysed my voice box, which allows me to talk. I can’t say that I’ve overcome the challenges I have faced but more so come to terms with certain situations for me to be able to move forward in life. Everyone deals with life’s obstacles differently but for me personally I find writing has been extremely beneficial. Talking has never been one of my strong points, even before my suicidal attempt. I’ve found a passion for writing and setting up my own blog with the intention of helping others with real if not at times my direct way of writing. Furthermore, I also now have a better understanding of my own boundaries.”

SKINNER & VALE

Prepare to witness the future of fashion with a label that redefines denim and turns sustainability into high style. Welcome to skinner and vale, the home of the iconic upcycled denim jacket. They have just picked up an award for Best Fashion at the latest Surrey Awards – well done to the two budding entrepreneurs, Debs and Sam as well as completing a Fashion Shoot with Surrey Rocks Magazine.

10 calls and if 10 don't find you help, make 11 calls. Fight, never give up. I've learnt to not rely on anyone and to have no expectations of others. Sometimes it’s you, and only you, that can make a difference. Sometimes you have to do things yourself. It may be because of others that you feel like you do, or are in the situation you are in. So, even more reason not to rely on anyone to pick you back up only to drop you again. Sometimes you are the only person that can help yourself.”

Phillip Dunford, added, I’ve put probably about £15,000 into therapy. Psychiatry, hypnotism, counselling, meditation, read selfhelp books, you name it I’ve tried it. While I would say that some of these things have helped me, it’s two things that have worked the best. Being as physically fit as possible is one of them. If you can’t afford or train in the gym, train outside, even better. The other is facing your fears and with that one, although difficult there are no two ways about it. Gradual exposure works best.”

NEWS FOR HER WHAT'S TRENDING... FASHION BRANDS TO WATCH #FASHION

We salute our 2026 womenswear “Fashion Brands To Watch” – House of Kind, Monice London and Bumboo – these brave and bold fashion brands and designers (Sonica, Janice and Elizabeth) come from Surrey and are born and bred entrepreneurs - making serious waves in the evercompetitive fashion industry. Follow their stories here and watch their powerful brands unfold in 2026. You heard it here first.

HOUSE OF KIND

House of Kind, the brainchild of lawyer-turned-entrepreneur Sonica Beckmann, began as a challenge to the Old Boys' Club, reimagining power dressing for women. The brand is a reminder to be kind, to act with empathy and to recognise that we are all of the same kind.

Each piece carries visible symbols of solidarity and allyship: buttons shaped like the scales of justice for equal rights and equal pay, a purple heart on the sleeve for kindness, and their registered mantra “Kindness is Our Superpower” is stitched into every lining of their designs.

House of Kind recently signed with designing legend Scott Henshall to support its creative growth and international expansion. Through partnerships with Women for Women International, 50:50 Parliament, Dress for Success Greater London and Stonewall UK, House of Kind fights for equality and uses fashion as a force for good.

Its “Seat at the Table T-shirt" donates 50% of sales to support gender equality in British politics and as a reminder that women need to be in all spaces where decisions are made.

MONICE LONDON

Designer Janice Akhtar has emerged on the fashion scene with a powerful relaunch of her brand, Monice London. Rooted in experience, femininity and a deep understanding of how women want to feel in their clothes, Janice pattern cuts and fits every style personally, meaning the proportions are exact and nothing is left to chance.

Her designs balance structure with sensuality. “I want my brand to be timeless, bra-friendly and incredibly flattering. Women should feel sexy, not restricted or annoyed that they can’t wear something,” Janice says.

Monice London’s signature hidden bra strap detail now runs throughout their entire collection, a visual thread that defines the brand’s aesthetic. Plus, fitted dresses aren’t always forgiving so if you’ve got a bit of a tummy, certain designs feature double rouching around the waist to clinch you in or a wide waistband to define your figure.

Monice London recuts her best-selling dresses in new colours, not just trending shades, in tones women genuinely love, season after season.

International Women’s Day is on March 8th and celebrates all the incredible women we have in our lives. We interview 10 Inspiring Surrey Women each year and here is our highlights of their inspiring stories:

CHEF RENU BALLANTINE, said: “Discrimination is one of those words that is really quite emotive. Everyone has walked a different path and what is discrimination for one might not be for another. I always describe my experiences based on what I think should have been appropriate at the time, and if it wasn’t, then I could call it discrimination. In 1989 as an eager, young, engineering undergraduate, full of self-belief, I applied to work in Japan for an undergraduate placement year. With my maiden name, it wasn’t obvious if I was male or female. It wasn’t until I applied for my uniform that the car company in question realised that I might not be a male. And

SHYNE ADCOCK, founder of Shynefest Festival said,

“My advice would be don’t be afraid to start small and don’t feel like you have to have everything figured out. It’s okay to take risks and it’s okay to make mistakes. In fact, mistakes are really important, as those are often the most valuable lessons. I remember my grandmother saying to me when I was little “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again. Find something you care about and let that passion drive you, even if you feel like you don’t belong in that space at first. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and will support you.”

unfortunately, the role was pulled from under me only a few weeks before I was due to leave. Was this discrimination? Absolutely! But at the time, this was normal, even though the Sex Discrimination Act was passed in 1975 in the UK. This taught me a great lesson; just to have an opportunity, I had to be better than my male counterparts. It did unfortunately create an awareness in me, which made me notice discrimination a little more than say, if this experience hadn’t have happened. And throughout my decades in corporate, I would say I faced discrimination at least once a year despite the Equalities Act being passed in 2010 in the UK.”

ANGELA SARA WEST, celeb journalist and co-founder of SFW, said,

“Those who know me know I’m all about giving back. Coming from a philanthropic family, both my parents are big hearted and, despite now being in their late 70s and 80s, still assist with charity events at Carshalton Rotary Club and Inner Wheel today. Their altruistic influence instilled in me a sense of selflessness, leading to the countless celebrity charity events I have created and contributed to over the years. From volunteer work on BBC’s ‘Children in Need’ and my son’s schools’ PTAs, to co-founding Surrey Fashion Week and its celebrity charity catwalk shows with Sam at Surrey Rocks, I have helped fundraise for copious great causes.”

RECIPE

VEGAN M’ HANNCHA

Moroccan M’ Hanncha is a wonderful way to wrap up gorgeous, smashed vegetables and grains to make a beautiful looking dinner, while also adding amazing texture – crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle. Healthy and tasty – are you ready to be part of the vegan revolution?

INGREDIENTS:

• 100 g pearl barley

• 1 butternut squash, (1.2kg)

• 2 red onions

• 2 cloves of garlic

• 2 red peppers

• 1 big bunch of fresh coriander, (60g)

• olive oil

• ½ teaspoon dried red chilli flakes

• 1 heaped teaspoon fennel seeds

• 1 heaped teaspoon cumin seeds

• 1 heaped teaspoon ground coriander

• 100 g mixed dates and dried apricots

• ½ a lemon

• 10 sheets of filo pastry

• 1 tablespoon shelled pistachios

• icing sugar, for dusting

METHOD:

1. Cook the pearl barley then drain. Wash the squash, then carefully cut it in half lengthways and remove the seeds. Peel the onions and garlic, and deseed the peppers. Chop the squash, onions and peppers into 1cm dice. Finely chop the garlic with the coriander stalks (reserving the leaves).

2. Place it all in a pan on a medium-low

heat with 2 tablespoons of oil, the chilli flakes, fennel and cumin seeds, and the ground coriander. Sweat with a lid on for 25 to 30 minutes, or until soft but not coloured, stirring occasionally.

3. Destone the dates and finely chop the flesh with the apricots and coriander leaves. Fold into the veg pan with the drained pearl barley, squeeze in the lemon juice, season to perfection, then leave to cool.

4. Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4.

5. Lay out two clean damp tea towels on a large work surface, side-by-side, with the longest edges facing you. Working quickly but taking care, lay out 3 sheets of filo side-by-side with the short edges towards you, overlapping each one by 2.5cm and brushing between the overlaps with water.

6. Lightly brush the sheets with oil, place 3 filo sheets directly on top, then repeat

with another 3 sheets. Save the remaining sheet for patching up.

7. As evenly as possible, spoon your filling in a line along the long edge closest to you. Brush the opposite long edge with a little oil.

8. Working slowly and carefully, use the tea towels to help you roll it up and away from you into a giant cigar, keeping it on the damp tea towel at all times. Roll it into a large pinwheel, working quickly but handling it gently to avoid too many cracks.

9. Gently slide it onto a large greased baking tray, and patch up any gaps, if needed. Brush all over with more oil and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until gorgeous, crisp and golden.

10. Ten minutes before the end, smash and sprinkle over the pistachios and an extra pinch of each of the spices, if you like.

11. Serve with a super-light dusting of icing sugar. Delicious with all the usual trimmings or served with a spiced tomato sauce.

WINE PAIRING

If you are having a vegetable based menu the best option is to go with wines that are a bit more mature. With vegetarian food the flavours are more subtle so you have to be a bit more careful with your wine decisions. The obvious difference between vegetable and meat cooking is the absence of rare protein and animal fat which both tame the tannins of full bodied reds. Therefore the best option is to go for a Bordeaux, Burgundy, Tuscany or a Napa Valley wine (although pricier) that go well with a dish that is classic and vegetable based like this one.

MOVIE REVIEW ALBUM REVIEW BOOK REVIEW

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2

If you haven’t already seen the first ‘Devil Wears Prada’, then where have you been?!

The iconic film shows the reality behind the glitz and glamour of the fashion world, where in the early 2000’s fashion was for the size 0’s and if you were a size 8, you were practically considered obese!

The much-hyped 2026 sequel shifts its focus to the business-driven, powerhungry women at the top.

Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, is now struggling against Anne Hathaway’s character, Emily Charlton - her former assistant turned highpowered rival executive - as they battle for control of vital advertising revenue at a time when print media is rapidly declining, all while Miranda edges dangerously closer to retirement.

As the original was rooted in highend fashion, it’s interesting to see how the sequel keeps up with today’s designer trends.

People loved that the first film glorified the corporate fashion icons who ruled Runway, or as Andy once called them, “clackers,” referring to their stilettos tapping across the marble lobby floors.

The sequel, however, seems to be taking a more toned-down, contemporary approach to stylemuch to the disappointment of some die-hard fans of the original.

Many of the looks we’ve seen so far feel more aligned with young professionals working in or around media-adjacent environments.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ is out in cinemas on May 1st and is predicted to be the blockbuster hit of 2026.

NICKI MINAJPINK FRIDAY 3

Nicki Minaj has finally dropped a follow-up to her fan-favourite debut album, and it’s not just a deluxe edition of ‘Pink Friday 2’.

She honestly felt the new songs were too good to be tucked away and deserved their own moment, which is why we now have ‘Pink Friday 3.’ Praise the Lord!! More Minaj Albums. Minaj a trois we can call it!

This is her first album as #PapaBear mama, and you can tell she’s thought carefully about every track and the order they appear in.

The album touches on her life, balancing motherhood and her career, and shows just how much she’s grown as an artist over the years.

Minaj has teased that a new single will drop before the full album, which only makes us more excited.

‘Pink Friday 3’ feels like a proper statement - Nicki doing her thing, unapologetic and iconic, and it’s shaping up to be one of her most memorable projects yet.

We can’t wait for it’s official release in March.

The new 16-track album is reportedly containing collaborations with Doja Cat, Future, Lil Wayne, Lourdiz, Sabrina Carpenter and Skeng.

While many believe and are calling the album ‘Pink Friday 3’ Minaj dropped a cryptic message on X that read it will be named “3.27.26.”

While her recent beef with rapper and Tidal owner Jay-Z may mean her album may be taken off the cards altogether. We hope not. Minaj has remained tight lipped on the news reports as of December 2025.

Only time will tell! Watch this space.

ANATOMY OF AN ALIBI – ASHLEY ELSTON

From the Number 1 New York Times bestselling author of ‘First Lie Wins’ comes this tense, feverish thriller about two women’s lives that are forever intertwined when a murder threatens to expose them both. Everyone at Chantilly’s Bar noticed out-of-towner Camille Bayliss. Red lips, designer heels, sipping a Negroni. But that woman wasn’t Camille Bayliss. It was Aubrey Price.

Camille Bayliss appears to have the picture-perfect life; she’s married to hotshot lawyer Ben and is the daughter of a wealthy Louisiana family. Only nothing is as it seems: Camille believes Ben has been hiding dirty secrets for years, but she can’t find proof because he tracks her every move.

Aubrey Price has been haunted by the terrible night that changed her life a decade ago, and she’s convinced Benjamin Bayliss knows something about it. Aubrey and Camille hatch a plan. It sounds simple: For twelve hours, Aubrey will take Camille’s place. Camille will spy on Ben, and the two women will get the answers they desperately seek.

Except the next morning, Ben is found murdered. Both women need an airtight alibi, but only one of them has it. And one false step is all it takes for everything to come undone.

DOLPH LUNDGREN

WHAT A YEAR IT’S BEEN FOR DOLPH, BATTLING WHAT THE DOCTORS TOLD HIM WAS TERMINAL LUNG CANCER TO GETTING THE ALL-CLEAR AND BEING COMPLETELY CANCER FREE AFTER 8 YEARS. DOLPH PUBLICLY DOCUMENTED HIS STRUGGLES AND WAS AN INSPIRATION TO OTHER CANCER SUFFERERS. HE HAS ALSO BEEN IN THE NEWS FOR MARRYING A 29-YEAR-OLD PERSONAL TRAINER, EMMA KROKDAL, WHO IS 39 YEARS HIS JUNIOR. HIS THIRD MARRIAGE BUT HE IS BLISFULLY HAPPY SO GOOD ON HIM.

DOLPH LUNDGREN GIVES SURREY ROCKS THE EXCLUSIVE INSIDE TRACK ON HOW HE SHOT TO FAME AND HOW HE HAS RETAINED HIS REPUTATION AS A HOLLYWOOD ACTION STAR.

Iremember vividly meeting Dolph for the first time. As he approached, the sun seemed to disappear and with it went my resolve. However Dolph could not have been more of a gentle giant with the most drooling American accent; enough to melt the heart of any young ‘gal’, he met. Therefore, I was delighted when I was given the opportunity once again to catch up with him whilst he was in LA. However once again he could not have been more charming or endearing and since the last time we spoke he has starred in an impressive list of 40 further movies.

Of course, Dolph’s most famous role was the Russian killer boxer in ‘Rocky IV’ playing opposite the great movie man himself Sylvester Stallone. Indeed, Sylvester has been integral over the years in burgeoning his career, offering him advice and sought after roles. This is all in spite of Dolph breaking Sly’s ribs accidently in one of Rocky’s fight scenes.

Dolph, now 68, continues to remain at the peak of his profession not only as an actor but also as a director, screenwriter and producer, although as a child his dream was to become a rock star – a far cry from where he is today. Although Dolph is world renowned, I wanted to firstly refresh our readers on Dolph’s history and then to his outstanding achievements to date.

Dolph please tell me about your aspiration to become a rock star? “Every kid wants to become one. I played the drums in high school for four or five years in various bands and then I revived my drumming skills in 2009 when I directed, wrote and was the lead role in a movie called ‘Command Performance’, where I used my drumming skills on screen. The story was inspired by a concert Madonna did for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The movie also marked my daughter Ida’s screen début. Drumming has always been a part of my life”.

However Swedish-born Dolph’s main aim in his early years was not to become a musician but a chemical engineer. An unusual choice. “My Dad was an electrical engineer and my older brother was a chemical engineer. Initially I was inclined to be a Doctor and go to medical school but I had to wait a year so decided to follow my family and study chemical engineering”.

next six months, when I had actually planned to study chemical engineering in Boston”.

What was she really like to live with?

You hold the rank of 3rd Dan black belt in Kyokushin Karate and you were European champion in 1980 and 1981. Why did you decide on such a dramatic career change as an actor and not continue down that path?

“Karate was a sport I did on the side but my key job was engineering. I received a scholarship from Sydney Australia University and then I gained a scholarship at the prestigious school of Maytee in Boston.”

You obviously loved learning and attended many universities.

“I suppose I had the inclination. It was easy for me and it was a great way to get sponsorships abroad, as I always wanted to travel, especially to the United States. Basically it was a way to get free tickets to go places!”

What was the catalyst that drew you to New York and catapulted you into the acting world?

“It had to be Grace Jones. I met her in Australia whilst studying there, I became her bodyguard and we had a relationship for four years. As she lived in New York, that is where I spent the

“It was colourful. Let’s put it that way. Everyday was a new challenge. We had a very tumultuous kind of relationship. It was wonderful at the time and she was a very interesting fun lady. I learnt a lot from her; professionally, as well.”

How and when did you first become involved in acting? “It was when I was modeling in the USA to get a work visa and that is when I started studying acting. There was something about it, going through a variety of experiences and emotions which really appealed to me. All I wanted to do was act. It never occurred to me I would eventually become a Hollywood action star”.

How did you get your first break? “It was small really. There was the Bond Movie ‘A View to a Kill’ being shot in France and Roger Moore was playing Bond and Grace was playing a role. I was there at the time and was told by the Director they needed someone to point a gun at Christopher Walken and be a bad guy. I was chosen. It was all of ten seconds! After that I went for a ‘cattle call’; that’s like a big casting call in New York for a boxing movie – ‘Rocky IV’. However I was turned down because of being

too tall. I managed to find someone who knew Stallone and sent them a picture. Six months later they approached me having seen it and after 6 months I finally got the part as the imposing Russian boxer Ivan Drago.

From that moment on Dolph was rocketed to the star status he still retains today, having starred in 73 roles to date and signed up to star as the lead villain in US series ‘Arrow’.

Which roles would you say were the most challenging? “That is quite difficult to answer as they are all challenging in different ways. Obviously the one that stands out is ‘Rocky IV’ because it was my first movie as I had not been in front of a camera before. There was a lot of pressure on me as it was a big budget movie and I was the opponent sparring against Sylvester Stallone. Every Rocky movie is all about the opponents. It was a memorable experience. The other film was ‘The Expendables’ which I starred in five years ago.

It was challenging as I was returning to the big screen, having acted in direct-to-video films since 1995. I played a volatile, angry, substance abuser and frightening character Gunner Jensen. It was quite emotional. Although he is a fighter it was not like the other action hero movies that I had acted in, quite the opposite.

The third film was the first one I directed called ‘The Defender’. That was really tough because the first time you direct a movie, especially if you are an actor, you have the producers and the bar company to deal with. They were all at each other and had to be replaced. However it went really well and I remember one moment that I was so tired that I fell asleep whilst talking to one of the crew!”

Have any of your roles affected you emotionally? “All of them. The more roles you play emanate from where you are in your life at that time, from playing an innocent kickboxer from Russia to my role in ‘The Expendables’ starring as a crazy drunk, drug-taking tough guy. I did a movie called ‘Kindergarten Cop 2’ which was the one Arnold Schwarzenegger did 25 years ago and working alongside a bunch of six-year-old kids. Those experiences have had an influence on the person I am today. I think they all effect you to some degree”.

What was it like starring alongside children? “Well I have children but as everyone says do not work with children or animals, because they always steal the show and drive you nuts. The kids were very sweet and there was also a pig and a hamster on set. The kids were scared of me at the beginning because I was

a teacher and an FBI agent dressed as a kindergarten cop, but after a week or so they started to warm to me and took to me as their teacher and role model. It was touching when I had to leave. I thought maybe I will see these kids five or ten years from now and they will be grownups and have these wonderful memories. That means a lot to me”.

Do you do your own stunts? “I do as many of them that I am allowed to do. Some of them are very dangerous like stunts involving fire and some high-speed driving. I try to do enough where you can see it is me and not a stunt double”.

Have you had any hair-raising moments throughout your career either in front of the screen or behind it? “Plenty behind it”, he replied with a wicked laugh. “However what happened back in the eighties was completely different on film sets. There were a few fatal accidents, like one guy being killed with a blank bullet and another one killed by a chopper. Now it is much safer, but at that time I did hair-raising stunts such as jumping from a four-storey window onto a platform below with no safety harness. It was crazy. Another time when I was working in Africa there were hyenas that were not properly trained and bit me. Another one was when I was in a motorcycle side car and had to jump onto a truck, again with no safety harness. I certainly would not do those types of stunts today.”

genuine. It was not – just a great publicity stunt to promote the film!

Have you been nominated or won any awards? “Yes, but not that many. I received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Taormina Film Festival, The Fantastic Lantern Award at the Malaga International Week of Fantastic Cinema, and the Marshall Trophy for best actor in ‘Rocky IV’ including the fact that Rocky IV made more money than other movie – a Guinness World Record. The majority of them have not been for my acting, directing and producing”.

One of your first roles apart from ‘Rocky IV’ was starring as HeMan in ‘Masters of the Universe’ as a hero rather than a villain playing a toy. That must have been quite an unusual experience… to put it mildly? “Playing a toy back in those days was really strange. It felt like a career ender. However now everyone is employing actors to play superheroes, cartoon characters, toys, like the big Spielberg movie ‘The Transformers’. Yes it was tough for me at first as I always played bad guys and then had to play an American hero. It put me under a lot of pressure as it was a complete character role change. I remember going to Macey’s in New York with my daughter Corinne and there were all these kids going mad over the He-Man store. I did feel like it was surreal playing a toy in a movie”.

With another film ‘Universal Soldier’ where you played alongside another action hero Jean-Claude Van Damme, I gather you experienced some problems at first with some of the fight scenes? “Yes it was when I was on set for the first scene in Vietnam when I was playing this crazy sergeant who is about to shoot these kids and he had to kick the gun out of my hand. He kicked me rather too hard. We had to do the scene again. In between takes my British karate instructor Brian Fitkin came running up to me and told me to knock out JC Van Damme ‘if he did that again’. JeanClaude’s eyes widened on hearing this. When he made the next kick it was a mere tap!”

Indeed at the Cannes Film Festival 1992 they repeated this fight and security was brought in to break it up as they thought it was

You also directed and starred ‘Aqua Man’ and in ‘Icarus’. That must have been difficult taking on both roles? “Yes as it was a script that had to be rewritten from scratch. We had to change the writer to get the financing. They were not happy with the rewrite, the budget got cut and I had some issues with the producers, as I was also starring in the film. I was not really savvy enough in those days to deal with politics over a film and its production. I had some run-ins that should not have happened. Basically, it was a difficult film which finally ended being re-cut by the producers. I was not happy with it. However it taught me a good lesson. After that film I became involved in ‘The Expendables’ franchise and decided if I ever directed again that I have would direct and also produce so that I have some power as to how the film is being financed and coordinated”.

In the ‘Expendables’ you starred with Sylvester Stallone. What was it like acting alongside him again? “It was very interesting because we worked together thirty years ago on the first movie ‘Rocky IV’ when he was the Director and Producer when he was a big movie star and I was a kid from Sweden. I regarded him as a role model. We became friends on some level especially, as we were sparring together for 6 months. When you hit each other you react to them in a slightly different way than just talking. I did not think we would work with each other again but then he called me in 2009 and asked me to pick up a script which he was directing – ‘The Expendables’. I read the script and thought it was great especially as we were friends, albeit on a different professional level. It was a really nice feeling knowing that we had regained our friendship and I was so happy to star in it. I am also delighted that he has now been nominated for an Academy Award for best supporting actor in ‘Creed’ where he plays Rocky Balboa again”.

When you are not on set how do you spend your time? “Sleeping”, he jokingly replies. “Also travelling to some far away locations or training but principally spending time with my two

daughters who live in Europe. One is in Sweden in a boarding school and the other is in Marbella. They both grew up in Marbella and I still have a house there. I try to fly them over here or go there as soon as I get a break. They are my main priority when I am not working”.

How many hours do you train per week? “It depends a lot on the shooting schedule or when I manage to take a week off, I train five days a week. Two or three days with weights mixed with martial arts, one day is swimming and the fifth day would be martial arts training out with Howard King who has trained with me over the years. I try to stay on schedule but sometimes because of my work commitments it may come down to three days a week working out for an hour a half”.

Indeed Stallone has had a prolonged impact on his fitness regime and his diet, ensuring that he eats 5 or 6 smaller meals a day with a substantial higher percentage of protein.

Can you give our readers any inside tips on how to stay fit? “It takes some commitment because the majority of us live a very subterranean lifestyle. We are like a first or second generation who can have as much food as we want. My parents grew up in the depression where many people starved to death. Nowadays you have to watch what you eat and be a little restrictive. Diets do not work - they are basically something you do for a short period of time. Your diet is more like a lifestyle rather than abstaining from something you eat for a few weeks. However one point I would like to make is anything is better than nothing. For instance, if you have not got time or are tired, just do push-ups or go for a walk. What happens is your body has an incredible way of adjusting. If you go out for a walk for ten minutes one day, automatically, for most people, the next time they will want to go for a little bit longer may be for fifteen minutes. That is how our bodies work. Even those who only do a small amount of exercise can always build it up. I suggest to your readers don’t put up huge unrealistic goals that you cannot reach and afterwards feel bad about not achieving them”.

Dolph has a house in Marbella which is where the interview took place. So, what first attracted you to the Costa del Sol? “My exwife grew up there and when we got married in 1984 we went on our honeymoon to Marrakech for a week, then Marbella for a week, this was meant to be followed by two weeks in La Rioja –the wine region. However, when we came to Marbella and stayed at the Marbella Club, we ended up staying there for the rest of our honeymoon as there is something so special about it, the people and the weather. We both just loved it and started renting different houses there and 14 years later we bought a house. We had a daughter by then, followed by a second one.”

What are your favourite places in Marbella? “I like Orange Square in the Old Town and the Marbella Club especially with their Sunday buffet down by the pool. I always take my kids there when I come back. It always brings back many happy memories for me. I also love the beaches as I go biking and training down there. Marbella is one of my favourite places, even more so than the South of France or the Italian Riviera. I have friends there but whilst I was living there my career went down. Therefore, when Sly called me to star in

‘The Expendables’ I realised I had to spend more time in Los Angeles which is where I am now. Los Angeles is much hotter and drier than Marbella because of its micro-climate. Also, to some extent in lifestyle. If you move away from Los Angeles up to Santa Barbara, the architecture is Spanish and people speak Spanish”.

On a final note what projects have you got in the pipeline?

“Apart from acting, I have two future projects which I am producing and directing; one of which I am acting in”.

Which ones? “One film called ‘Wanted Man’ being filmed in Mexico either in the summer or the fall. I am starring in that one. The other is called ‘Nordic Lights’ which is a World War 1 thriller filmed in Sweden. I like that project enormously because it is set in my own country, especially as 90% of my movies have been produced from America and nothing in Sweden. I am hoping that once it is completed, it will put Sweden on the map for future movies to be filmed there”.

On finishing this interview I believe, without a shadow of a doubt Dolph will, in the very near future, receive not only a welldeserved coveted Oscar for either his acting, producing, screenwriting or directing skills but will also join the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

SS/26 FASHION TRENDS

It’s a fun and adventurous year for Women’s Fashion, you’ll be pleased to hear ladies. Designers went all out in their SS/26 shows with cool indigo denim, oversized chunky knits and flicking fringe sashaying down the catwalks. And would you dare to bare in the new “outerwear as underwear” lace trend?! Elsewhere tailoring shows it softer side, with a more relaxed approach, chilling out with the lace and denim trends of the season. Have fun with your fashion choices this year, it’s all about living your best life and the fashion you feel most comfortable doing this in.

LIVE IT UP IN LACE

Lace, that eternally romantic whisper of a fabric, is having a moment and that is set to continue into 2026 as the womenswear trend worth obsessing over. This year, lace has officially transitioned from moonlit soirées to bright, bustling afternoons, embracing a modern versatility that no one saw coming. Gone are the days when it was reserved for candlelit drama; now it's cropping up on morning coffee runs and brunch tables everywhere. Designers are pushing lace far beyond its traditional persona. For 2026, it appears as a delicate trim on slip skirts, camisoles and floaty pants — those otherwise simple, streamlined pieces suddenly elevated by a whisper of eyelash lace. For statement pieces think asymmetrical dresses that swoop across the collarbone or tops that fold and drape.

Lace has formed a fresh and appealing bond with denim and knitwear. We're seeing sheer lace layers tossed over jeans and midi lace skirts with oversized pullovers. It's the kind of styling that makes you look ethereal yet entirely grounded. Sheer lace layers are emerging as a powerful tool for highlighting femininity and sensuality without being overpowering.

The message for 2026 is clear: wear lace boldly, wear it playfully and - most importantly - wear it in unexpected contexts. Lace is no longer waiting for nightfall. She's already out the door, inviting the rest of us to join her romantic silhouette.

FRINGE BENEFITS

In 2026, fashion starts moving again. Literally. Fringe steps back into the spotlight, reanimating wardrobes with rhythm, texture and intent. After seasons of stillness and structure, clothing finds its pulse - every step, turn and pause animated by strands designed to sway, flick and whisper.

This is not fringe as costume. Designers are deploying it with precision, using it sculpturally rather than nostalgically. Expect to see it skimming hems of evening gowns, punctuating tailored jackets, and cascading across dresses in sequined or metallic finishes that catch the light with controlled drama. The mood is deliberate, not decorative – 1920’s glamour reimagined through a modern lens of clean lines, sharp tailoring and contemporary proportions.

On the runways, fringe felt purposeful and powerful. We loved Balmain's take in particular—confident, architectural and unapologetically modern. Here, movement wasn't an afterthought; it was the point. Fringe became a design tool, shaping silhouettes and commanding attention without excess.

For those who prefer a lighter touch, the trend translates seamlessly into accessories. Fringe-embellished handbags bring instant edge to minimalist looks, while scarves add motion without commitment. It's an easy way to tap into the energy of the trend without letting it take over your wardrobe.

Fringe is fashion in motion - alive, expressive and impossible to ignore.

INDIGO DENIM

In 2026, denim recalibrates. The pendulum swings away from exaggerated volume and lands firmly on precision. After seasons of wide-leg dominance, the classic straight leg reclaims its authority - clean, confident and refreshingly grown-up. From Paris to New York, models have been spotted in streamlined silhouettes that read less trend-driven, more intentional. Denim, once again, knows exactly what it's doing.

Rise matters this year. Low to mid-rise styles set the tone, worn with the kind of footwear that signals ease rather than effort: polished loafers, pared-back ballet flats, or boots with quiet attitude. The result is a look that feels instinctive, never styled to death, always composed.

Equally important is the shift in wash. 2026 turns its back on pale blues and overworked distressing in favour of darker, inky "raw" denims. These deeper shades feel sharper, more architectural and undeniably elevated. Left untreated and kept close to their natural state, they're free from the heavy chemical processing and excessive water use typically required for lighter finishes. Sustainability, here, is woven seamlessly into the aesthetic. This is denim designed for real life and long wear. Effortlessly chic, endlessly adaptable, and seasonless by nature, it moves easily from Spring through Winter without losing relevance. A straight-leg raw jean paired with a crisp shirt in April feels just as right layered under knits come November.

To push the look fully into 2026 territory, the answer is doubling down. A matching indigo denim jacketstructured, unfussy and worn with confidence - completes the picture. Together, they form a modern uniform: timeless and quietly cool. Denim, refined.

SOFT TAILORING

Great suits will always be relevant. Traditional structure gives way to ease as tailoring softens, relaxes, and starts to move with the body rather than against it. The result is a new kind of precision: sleek, considered and quietly powerful, without the rigidity of the past.

This season's tailoring favours unstructured blazers, soft-shouldered, fluid and effortlessly modern. Worn with darker denim, they strike a balance that feels current and intelligent, blurring the line between formal and offduty. Footwear keeps the mood grounded: loafers (another key player for 2026) add polish without stiffness, while trainers inject a subtle, confident nonchalance.

What defines this trend isn't the absence of shape, but a redefinition of it. Silhouettes still matter, but movement and freedom take priority. Looser fits allow garments to breathe, drape and respond to the wearer. These are clothes designed for real momentum - walking, working, living.

Fabric choice is key. Drapey, fluid materials bring tactility and comfort to the forefront, proving that tailoring can feel as good as it looks. At Jil Sander, crisp lines were intentionally softened with open seams and gentle folds, a masterclass in restraint and modernity.

This shift also signals a broader change in how tailoring is worn. Suits are no longer reserved for formality or occasion; they're integrated into everyday dressing with an instinctive ease. A soft blazer thrown over a T-shirt, sleeves casually pushed up, denim grounding the look, feels intentional rather than styled. In 2026, tailoring becomes a lifestyle piece: adaptable, unfussy and quietly expressive - it's about confidence without constraint. It's tailoring that understands the moment - refined, relaxed and designed to move forward with you.

COOL KNITWEAR

In 2026, knitwear hits its maximalist-meets-mindful peak. Consider this season's knits wearable poetry with a backbone: chunky cables that look hand-carved rather than cozy, ribbing so pronounced it turns a sweater into a tactile experience, silhouettes that cocoon the body with intentional excess. If fashion spoke in dialects, this one would mutter in recycled cashmere and breathe through exaggerated, voluminous yarns.

Sleeves steal the spotlight ballooned, billowing, sometimes romantic, sometimes almost brutalist. They move with cinematic drama; every gesture feels deliberate, choreographed. And as shapes get louder, materials get smarter. Regenerative wool, upcycled blends, and ethically sourced fibres redefine luxury as something thoughtful, not showy.

The colour story shifts too. Jewel tones still pulse through the season, but they're dialled down and grounded by modern neutrals. Fog grey, oat latte, bone, warm clay - shades that feel edited, not bland. They act as a calm canvas, letting texture, construction and craftsmanship take centre stage. The most refined knits arrive in whisperlight gauges: fluid, precise, deceptively minimal.

Layering becomes strategic rather than bulky a fine merino roll neck slipped under a heavier cardigan, proportions playing off each other with quiet confidence. With silhouettes growing looser, knitwear doubles as both armour and escape.

The defining mood is elevated layering. These aren't just sweaters - they're soft architecture, emotional support uniforms, everyday luxuries built to insulate you from the noise. From January's frost to late-summer's cool evenings, 2026 knitwear wraps comfort in conviction.

CHEF RENU B

Renu Ballantine aka Chef Renu B is fast becoming South London and Surrey’s “culinary dream queen” organising delicious canapes, three-five-course menus and sharing feasts to suit any occasion, be it a dinner with friends, party or corporate event across the Capital and home counties.

Chef Renu B’s dinner party guests love her delicious, luxurious and highly-tailored food experiences and have aptly nicknamed her; “the hostess with the mostest.” She has hosted everything from intimate dinner parties and street food pop-up events to supper clubs, sumptuous five-course birthday feasts and large-scale corporate functions.

Renu has been cooking for over 30 years, beginning as a passionate home cook before turning her lifelong love of food into a thriving business four years ago. She honed her skills at the esteemed Leiths School of Food and Wine, where she trained as a chef, mastered food and wine pairing, and learned to navigate the challenges of catering for those with specific nutritional needs. In 2021, she launched her Surrey and South London–based business, Chef Renu B, which quickly gained critical acclaim and continues to grow.

FROM BOARDROOM TO BOUILLABAISSE

Since retiring from the corporate world, Renu’s entrepreneurial spirit has led her to build several diverse businesses that blend her corporate expertise with her lifelong passion for food. She is the CFO of Vessa, a personified AI-powered restaurant booking concierge using WhatsApp. Alongside this, she is a private chef (Chef Renu B), food consultant, and writer, authoring cookbooks and contributing articles to magazines.

As Chef Renu B, she creates beautifully presented, locally sourced, flavour-packed food in clients’ homes, offices, and private hire venues, helping them celebrate life’s special moments. Her expertise and enthusiasm for collaboration has seen her work with local vineyards such as Albury, Shere, cook for charity supper clubs at All Things Nice, Ewell, and she actively advocates to support the reduction of food poverty by supporting local projects at Epsom Pantry, Good Food Company, Merstham Mix Community Café and Empower Her UK. She loves to share her culinary skills through live cooking demos in front of hungry crowds at local festivals including the famous ‘Feasty Fest,’ in Cheam.

GASTRONOMY FEATURE

During her corporate life Renu consulted for several FTSE 100 companies, and she has bought those skills to the culinary world through her consulting business where she supports and advises cafes and restaurants on operational efficiency, profit maximisation and cost reduction measures. A recent client - Steve Best said of Renu’s work with him at his Surrey based award-winning coffee company The Press Room “…. I highly endorse Renu, she is a vital member of our food and strategic growth team, she has seamlessly integrated into our business, auditing and developed processes and operations, strategized designing of food service facilities and operations management systems. Renu has strengthened our proposition. She has been an asset from concept to creations in all food deliverables and systems…’’ And Renu, Steve and Reema still work together today looking for new ventures to work on together. Her creative flair extends beyond plates of food and consulting, and into the world of writing, where Renu has been sharing her cooking tips through lifestyle magazines, and on food blogs and podcasts. However, her biggest writing project to date has been her recently published cookbook “From Boardroom to Bouillabaisse”.

A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS

Renu has re-engineered complex cooking techniques and meals to bring you simple, elegant, and flavour packed recipes that you can enjoy at home with her debut cookbook: ‘From Boardroom To Bouillabaisse’. The book reveals the story and the secrets of her exciting journey from corporate engineer to private chef, drawing on over 25+ years in the corporate world which has gifted her the ability to solve some of our daily cooking problems that she herself has encountered as she’s navigated a dual career, international postings and a busy family life. The book was launched in 2024 and was very well received. Francesca De Franco a local food blogger and wine enthusiast recently wrote “… In From Boardroom to Bouillabaisse, self-styled Chef Renu B shares her unique perspective on cooking, shaped by her engineering background, global travels, family, favourite chefs, and Indian heritage. Over 60 pages, she has created an eclectic tome of recipes walking the reader through starters and canapés,

fresh and wholesome dishes, simple weeknight meals, impressive dinner-party fare, and simple yet elegant desserts. In a style reminiscent of Stanley Tucci’s “Taste”, Renu marries interesting anecdotes collated from her extensive global travels and kitchen experience with recipes so that we can understand more about the context of the ingredients and dishes. She demonstrates how more basic kitchen staples can be easily elevated (as someone with Italian heritage I loved her treatment of ingredients in the book's Heritage Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil Salad aka souped up Caprese) and gives a wealth of hints and tips so anyone can master things such as sushi rice and curries, create the amazing Schezwan and Pink Peppercorn Crusted Beef, Confit Garlic Mash with Miso Onion Tarte Tatin or

whip up an Irish Cream Liqueur Tiramisu. Renu’s signature recipe, Easier than Bouillabaisse, Mediterranean Fish Soup, exemplifies her philosophy – and that of the book - of simplifying gourmetlevel techniques without sacrificing flavour…”

Renu says: “I love taking complex cooking techniques and reengineering them to create a range of dishes that anyone can make; I have added in those little hints and tips, which solve the everyday challenges in the kitchen, so readers don't have to.”

This 60-page book includes 30 recipes that are easy to follow and includes hints and tips on techniques for improving flavour. Priced at £12 plus £2 packaging and postage this is a fabulous cookbook with plenty of 5 star reviews! Get yours now:  www.chefrenub.com/cook-book

EXCLUSIVE DINING EXPERIENCES

In October 50 guests over 2 sittings (our lucky selves included!) were able to savour the magic of Autumn with Chef Renu B’s exclusive ‘Harvest Lunch Dining Experience’ at Albury Vineyard. The idea was to celebrate the abundance of local seasonal produce that is harvested in the autumn months, through an intimate supper club hosted amid all the action at the vineyard.

We enjoyed a sparkling welcome with a glass of Albury's English Sparkling wine (Albury Estate Blanc de Blancs), served alongside a delicious three-course lunch menu that Chef Renu B crafted from the finest local produce, including Albury honey, estate-grown grapes, and fresh ingredients from her own garden.

The afternoon opened with a beautifully curated sharing starter, thoughtfully designed to bring everyone at the table together. A true harvest feast, it featured a velvety whipped Albury honey and feta dip, delicately infused with thyme and pink peppercorn. This was served alongside an array of vibrant seasonal crudités - crisp chicory, pickled cucumber and carrots, heritage radishes, and pink radicchio - complemented by a homemade chardonnay grape chutney. The dish was a celebration of colour, texture, and flavour, and set a spectacular tone for the meal to follow.

For the main course, we lingered over individual bread bowls

generously filled with meltingly tender, slow-braised pork shoulder, enriched with cream, sage, and Chef Renu’s own garden-grown green apples. The flavours were deep and comforting, and the experience was made even more special by the joy of breaking into and enjoying the bread bowl itself - a thoughtful and delicious finishing touch.

The dessert was a playful and indulgent rose and apple compote Eton Mess – a sweet finale decorated with fresh raspberries and pink meringue swirls that celebrated the best of the Harvest season. Both sittings were sold out and we can see why! This was an unforgettable celebration in the heart of the Surrey Hills and was a great chance to appreciate the culinary prowess and charm of Chef Renu B, Surrey’s hostess with the mostest! Keep up to date with Chef Renu B’s 2026 events by visiting her website  www.chefrenub.com or following her on socials @chefrenub.

Anna Maria Foster, Cobham (Surrey Dinner party for 10 guests)

“I have used Chef Renu B three years in a row now for our pre-Christmas dinner parties with our best friends and I wouldn’t go anywhere else! Renu caters for our 10 guests perfectly. She comes in and sets up behind the scenes (you wouldn’t know she was there – and with two waitressing staff!) and prepares the most delicious meal, including; canapés, starter, main and dessert. She delivers the food and discusses briefly about the wine matches and inspiration for each course – informative and fun – Renu is a welcome addition to our parties. She even brings out games at the end and has the guests well and truly entertained. I would not have enjoyed these parties as much if I didn’t have Renu there! When the party is over, Renu discreetly packs up, washes up and I don’t have to lift a finger. Love her!”

SPAGHETTI TREE

You will be blown away by the Spaghetti Tree’s delicious, hearty Italian cuisine and vibrant atmosphere that has scooped them a recordbreaking 14 awards - including two PAPA Industry Awards for Excellence and a hattrick of wins as ‘Best Mediterranean Restaurant’ at the Surrey Awards.

Since the launch of the first Spaghetti Tree in 2004; there are now 3 beautiful restaurants to visit: Warlingham, Shirley and the original Walton-on-the-Hill venue located next to the famous, sprawling lake which is photographed regularly among the most stunning Surrey locations.

With 4 generations of the Spaghetti Tree family at the helm, including mother and

daughter duo Maria & Dana, the restaurant also offers live music with the best in local talent every Friday and Saturday night, Bottomless Brunches on selected Saturdays and Roast Dinners with all the trimmings and ‘Ratpack’ tribute bands every Sunday lunchtime.

Spaghetti Tree is a cocktail lovers paradise with over 30 classic and signature choices while their extensive wine list is sourced from the finest Italian and French vineyards. All their food dishes are made fresh to order, with ingredients tailormade for certain dishes. The fact they have been in the industry for two decades shows – they have built up the best suppliers and the freshest, tastiest local, Italian and Sicilian ingredients.

TO START

While we were perusing the vast Spaghetti Tree food menu, we ordered a few of their famous cocktails to start the evening. With so many on offer and not to fill up too fast - two guests ordered the light and fragrant ‘Lychee and Dragon Fruit Martini’ and the slightly punchier ‘Chilli Margharita’ - both were served beautifully in chic, decorated glasses, rolled in fruit and chilli flakes respectively and tasted sublime.

Our other two guests threw the calorie count out of the window opting for the ‘And In A Puff…. She’s Gone’ consisting of strawberry gin, bubble gum vodka, watermelon, smashed strawberries and candyfloss while the final cocktail of the night; the ‘Morello Sour’ contained cherry vodka, Disaronno amaretto, lime, orgeat and egg white. Both were delicious but the ‘Morello Sour’ was the winner of the two according to our testers, as it had sweet tones but a deliciously tangy aftertaste like the kids’ ‘Sour Patch’ sweets… if you are familiar with them! I have to say the candy floss was so plentiful on the ‘And In A Puff…. She’s Gone’ we all got to grab a handful - so that definitely won me over. Childhood nostalgia!!

Spaghetti Tree also do large jug cocktails and Tiki cocktails served in large

porcelain themed glasses, if you really want to push the boat out. When it came to choosing Starters, we went for the ‘Braised Beef Sliders’ consisting of shredded beef brisket, a rich tomato and red wine sauce, fior de latte plus caramelised red onions –served in cute, mini, brioche subs. The meat was tender and full of flavour, with lashings of glazed sweet onion and was a very generous portion size – all of us were pleased to see as we tucked in!

Next up, we ordered the famous Spaghetti Tree ‘Sicilian Gambas Pil Pil’, served sizzling in a terracotta dish with large fresh king prawns, white wine, an abundance of diced fresh garlic, tomatoes and peppers with a side portion of their delicious, homemade Focaccia bread, made fresh that day. Simply

The standout Starter for us however was the ‘Spaghetti Tree Ribs’ – a half rack of the tastiest, most succulent baby back ribs, separated so they were crispy on the outside yet so soft and tender in the middle, the meat literally slid off the bone. They were perfectly served in a tangy, sticky, sweet Bourbon sauce garnished with slightly spiced baby watercress. These were among the best ribs we have ever tasted and three of our diners remarked they would come back to the Spaghetti Tree for this dish alone. Winning Starters on all counts! Well done!

RESTAURANT REVIEW

NOW ONTO MAINS

Our tasters decided to mix up our Main Course options, so we got to try the Spaghetti Tree classics of Pizza, Pasta, Steak and Specials.

On recommendation of the charming owner Maria, we opted for the ‘Salsiccia Siciliana’ pizza with their brand new, Sicilian sausage – bespokely made especially for Spaghetti Tree by their Italian butchers with a blend of fine herbs and fennel. It was non-greasy and full of flavour and went sublimely on the pizza which was laden with mozzarella, mushrooms, nduja, onions, Datterini

tomatoes, rocket and parmesan. (The new Sicilian sausage is now a major feature throughout the Spaghetti Tree 2026 menu including as a Starter and on a wide selection of their Mains.)

The traditional Italian-style ‘Spaghetti Carbonara’ was one of the finest we have ever tasted too. Served in the classic Italian way; with lashings of egg yolk, parmesan and the largest and crispiest chunks of Italian pancetta lardons… giving that perfect crisp along with the rich, smooth egg/ cheese sauce combo and the ‘al dente’ cooked fresh pasta – made this another standout dish. It is worth noting,

There is also an English/Ingles ‘Spaghetti Carbonara’ version on offer – made in the more ‘restaurant friendly’ way with cream, parmesan and bacon.

We also went for the ‘Flat Iron Steak’ which was cooked perfectly medium rare, diced (for our ease!) served with peppercorn sauce, mangetout, mushrooms, grilled cherry tomatoes and seasonal new potatoes. The steak was so tender and the pepper sauce creamy and spicy.

Next up, the ‘Basil Pollo Milanese’ was a very “Special” dish indeed! A large parmesan-breaded chicken breast topped with the tastiest, creamy, Italian burrata, balsamic-glazed tomatoes and fresh basil. The taste explosion of chicken, cheese, tomato and basil was to die for! This main was served with a side portion of garlic and parsley new potatoes, so full of flavour and nicely crispy on the outside… you could tell they had been perfectly partboiled, simmered in the garlic and herb butter before being finished off on a griddle. Wow!

The Spaghetti Tree chefs’ attention to detail must be commended here and

RESTAURANT REVIEW

across all their dishes. Not only can they nail 45 dishes on their impressive, 16-page menu but their sides are creatively and thoughtfully prepared - taking this much time and precision on creating such wonderful food – is a labour of love!

It is worth noting, that all the meals at Spaghetti Tree are made to order so can be tweaked according to customer preference. Plus, all their bread, focaccia and pizza dough is handmade daily in all of their three restaurants. Our diners duly-noted and agreed that all 14 award wins were well and truly deserved.

ROOM FOR DESSERT

Just about! There are so many enticing options to choose from including the ‘Pecan & Salted Caramel Cheesecake,’ the classic, Italian favourite of ‘Tiramisu’ and the superb ‘Pizza Nutella’ which is a whole baked pizza smothered in Nutella, strawberries and drizzled with white chocolate sauce and garnished with flowers. Delish.

While we were filling up fast we squeezed in the Spaghetti Tree favourite of ‘Nonno's Toffee Apple and Pistacchio Crumble’ which was served with Sicilian lemon mascarpone. The sweetness of the toffee, apple and crumble was perfectly offset by the sharpness of the lemon – a winning Dessert.

The Spaghetti Tree ‘West Bake Cookies’ that come in both ‘Kinder’ and ‘Hot Chocolate & Marshmallow’ flavour are the perfect sweet treat. These New York style cookies are deliciously large and gooey and served warm with a scoop of ice-cream and Belgian White Chocolate Sauce.

LIVE MUSIC, BOTTOMLESS BRUNCHES & ‘RAT PACK’ ROASTS

The Spaghetti Tree is definitely the place to be if you want a fun night out at weekends - always featuring the best in live entertainment. Ranging from 90’s, to soul, motown, pop and club classics, they really do book the best in local talent. Varying in different styles, Spaghetti Tree singers are out in force, every Friday and Saturday night, from 9pm till late to get the weekend party vibe going.

Plus, every first Saturday of the month at Warlingham and last Saturday of the month in Walton there is a ‘Bottomless Brunch’ where guests can have two hours of unlimited cocktails and a three-course meal for only £60 per person. What an incredible deal. Definitely going to check this out soon.

On Sundays, Spaghetti Tree have a great traditional Sunday lunch menu and have a Sinatra/Rat Pack tribute band playing all the classics from 2pm.

WEDDINGS & PRIVATE HIRE

From intimate gatherings to grand celebrations, Spaghetti Tree is the ideal destination for hosting unforgettable events too. Their restaurant provides the perfect backdrop for any occasion, with a combination of elegant ambiance and a welcoming atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a curated seated dining experience, or for a more party atmosphere opt for a champagne reception and canapés. Spaghetti Tree can also customise their menus to meet the specific needs of any event, ensuring a truly personalised experience.

With spacious interiors, a large bar area and modern furnishings, all three of their restaurants offer a versatile event and space that can accommodate both intimate and larger gatherings.

IN CONCLUSION

The beautiful and charismatic mother and daughter team of Maria and Dana (serious Sophia Loren vibes here!) are always in attendance at their restaurants, as are a lot of

the other family members including Maria’s ‘Nonna’ who was at the recent Shirley launch and the other children and grandchildren are all wanting to work and help out waitressing or making cocktails on the bar!

It’s so good to see a family run restaurant do so well and care so much about their customers experience; ensuring all their guests are having the best time. It’s no wonder TV personality Peter Andre, England cricketing legend Phil Tuffnell, Comedian Bobby Davro, ‘S Club’ singer Bradley Walsh and ‘Hollyoaks’ actress Gemma Bissix are among their regular celebrity customer fanbase. we are getting serious Sophia Loren vibes!)

The fact Spaghetti Tree have won multiple industry awards is also a true testament to the quality of the restaurant. Most recently, they picked up the ‘Best Mediterranean Restaurant’ in the Surrey Awards and a ‘PAPA Industry Award for Excellence’ alongside other high-profile wins. After our latest experience, we know the Awards will keep coming in thick and fast, a must try for sure. Delicious food, creative cocktails, stunning locations and brimming with fun and atmosphere –Spaghetti Tree definitely ticks all the boxes.

SID DA BARBER

FRESH FADE, FRESH

New Year energy is a funny thing. One minute you're sweeping up the last clippings of December, the next you're staring at a clean diary thinking: right then... who am I becoming this year?

Before we sprint into 2026, I want to do something we don't do enough of in the industry (or in life): pause, look back and actually take it in.

Because 2025 was... massive. The year the "pinch me" moments got real.

If you told teenage me back when I was learning the ropes and grafting for every client that 2025 would end with a Pro Hair Award win, I'd have laughed, then probably asked what time my next model was coming in.

But it happened: I was named “Professional Men's Hair Stylist of the Year” at the Pro Hair Awards. Not going to lie: I had one of those "say it again" moments when they announced it. Then it hit me. All the early starts, late finishes, the quiet days, the manic Saturdays, the constant learning it wasn't just noise. It was momentum. 2025 wasn't just luck. It was turning up again and again until the results couldn't ignore you!

CLEANCUTS: THE BARBERSHOP I BUILT IN MY HEAD!

The other big headline from last year was finally opening my own place: CleanCuts by Sid Da Barber, right here in Guildford.

LEWIS SIDNEY GUMBRELL, ALSO KNOWN AS SID DA BARBER, IS AN ESTEEMED BARBER, EDUCATOR, AWARD-WINNING FINALIST AND PROUD AMBASSADOR FOR TOP BRANDS SUCH AS MCR BARBER SUPPLIES AND RUDE CAPES. HE IS CURRENTLY HONING HIS CRAFT AT JACKS OF LONDON IN GUILDFORD AND TEACHES BARBER EDUCATION TWICE A WEEK. YOU CAN MAKE A BOOKING AND READ MORE ABOUT SID DA BARBER AND HIS BARBERING WORK BY VISITING HIS NEW WEBSITE AT WWW.SIDDABARBER.COM

I wanted a shop that felt like a proper hangout, a cool throwback to the best of the 80s/90s, but still sharp, modern and welcoming. The vibe matters. Not just the fades. And I've always believed a barbershop should be more than "in, out, pay, goodbye."

PAGE: 2026 IS LOOKING SO STYLISH

CleanCuts is built around community: good conversation, great cuts and a space where everyone feels comfortable. That inclusivity piece isn't a tagline it's the standard.

And yes... we've got the fun stuff too (because why not?): the little details that turn a trim into an experience. If you've not popped in yet, we're at 8–10 Bellfields Road, Guildford (GU1 1QG) www.cleancuts.co.uk

Pull quote idea: "The best barbershops don't just change hair. They change someone's day."

I ALSO BECAME A CHILDREN'S AUTHOR

Somewhere in the middle of all that, I also released a kids' book: ‘The Little Barber Who Could’ out now on Amazon and selected shops.

Honestly, writing a children's book felt like stepping into a totally different kind of chair. No clippers. No mirror check. Just imagination, rhythm and a message I really wanted to put out into the world: dreams are built, not wished for.

If you're a parent, aunty/uncle, godparent, or you just want a feel-good story with a bit of heart this one's for you. Check it out on Amazon.

WHAT 2025 HAS TAUGHT ME

This is the stuff they don't put on trophies!! And here's what I'm taking into 2026 because of it:

• Consistency beats intensity. The "big leap" is usually 200 small steps stacked up.

• Community is currency. People remember how you made them feel even more than the cut.

• Your brand is your behaviour. How you show up when nobody's filming matters.

• Growth isn't always loud. Sometimes it's quiet upgrades: better consultations, better timing, better listening.

Now... let's talk about what's coming next.

2026: TRENDS, TECH & THE FUTURE CHAIR

The industry's moving fast but in a good way. Clients are more informed, style is more personal, and tech is starting to become part of the grooming routine (without taking away the human part).

The hair trends I'm betting on for 2026. No crystal ball just what I'm seeing, hearing and feeling in the culture:

1) "SOFT PRECISION"

Clean outlines, but not harsh. Think sharp shape with natural movement. Less "painted-on" perfection, more wearable.

2) TEXTURE THAT LOOKS LIKE YOU WERE BORN WITH IT

We're heading deeper into texture-forward cutting working with growth patterns, curls, coils, waves, and natural density instead of flattening everything into one look.

3) THE MODERN TAPER TAKEOVER

Skin fades aren't disappearing, but more clients are asking for tapers and low fades that grow out nicer and suit real life (work, gym, weekends, repeat).

4) THE FRINGE ERA CONTINUES

Fringes are still having a moment, especially with looser, layered shapes and a bit of controlled mess. Not "I forgot to style it"... more "I styled it in 30 seconds and it's perfect."

5) PERSONALISATION OVER TRENDS

The biggest trend is actually this: clients want a cut that fits their face, their routine, and their identity. Same style name, different execution. Consultation is everything.

AI and future tech: what it actually means for barbers

LET'S ADDRESS THE BIG LETTERS: A.I.

No, A.I. isn't replacing barbers. Not the way I see it. But it is going to change expectations around convenience and personalisation.

Here's what I think we'll see more of in 2026:

Smart consultations - before they even sit down in the barber’s chair. Imagine a client booking online and answering a few quick prompts:

• How much time they style in the morning

• What they hate about previous cuts

• Their hairline/cowlick "issues"

• What they want to look like walking out

That info lands in the booking notes, so you start the appointment already 10 steps ahead.

A.R. TRY-ONS AND "STYLE PREVIEWS"

We're going to see more camera-based style previews, not to copy-and-paste a haircut, but to help clients communicate what they mean. Less confusion. Better outcomes.

Smarter aftercare and product matching. Technology will get better at suggesting: "Your hair is doing this, in this climate, with this routine, here's the product and method that actually makes sense." That means less random buying, more results and saving money too.

Content that educates, not just shows off. A.I. will flood the internet with generic haircut content. So, the winners (Barbers & Salons) will be the ones who keep it real: education, personality, authenticity and showing the actual craft.

"Tech can improve the journey. But the chair is still human."

MY 2026 GOALS

This year I want to keep pushing standards but also keep the fun. More community moments, more learning, more creativity and more reasons for people to walk out of the shop feeling like their best self.

If you're reading this as a client: thank you for trusting me with your head.

If you're reading this as a barber: Keep grafting. Keep learning. Keep showing up. The wins come after the work.

Here's to a big 2026, Sid

NEW YEAR, NEW

This ‘love and dating’ column will teach you how to date with purpose! The New Year invites us to reset not just our habits, but our hearts. Now is the time to dust off the disappointments of the past year and start anew.

Whether you’re single, starting over, or just learning how to love yourself again, this is your season to realign with love in its truest form.

Too often dating gets tied up in goals: find someone, commit, settle.

But what if 2026 wasn’t about finding love, but feeling it in every part of your life?

That might mean romance… but it could also mean an empowered sense of peace, friendships that lift you higher, and conversations that feel easy. This year it’s time to shift your focus from who you attract to how you speak to yourself and how you show up in the world.

When your energy feels grounded and you start being kind to yourself, you stop trying to fit into the lives of people who don’t have space for you. Protect your peace as fiercely as your heart.

MAGICAL NEW BEGINNINGS

There’s something magical about the new beginnings of a New Year because they allow you to rewrite the story.

Maybe last year held some dating misfires, the slow fades, the ‘almosts’, the ones that looked right but never quite felt it. But remember you will have learned something from each of those moments.

NEW LOVE, NEW ENERGY

Growth hides in those awkward texts, unmet expectations, and latenight reflections.

This year, own the lessons but release the heaviness. You’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience.

You don’t have to go on ten dates a month to “stay in the game.” Instead, let curiosity and self-trust guide your choices.

Promise yourself to try something new, attend a social event solo, fill out your dating profile with honesty instead of perfection, or simply smile at the barista who remembers your coffee order. Real connection starts from small moments when we’re fully present - not scrolling, not comparing, just being authentically you.

LOVE IN THE AGE OF AUTHENTICITY

People are tired of performing. Tired of polished profiles that say all the right things but hide emotional unavailability.

Now plan to build on that in 2026, where emotional intelligence is the new chemistry.

The spark is still important, but it’s empathy, kindness and selfawareness that keep the match burning. Dating with purpose means showing up as your whole self, flaws included.

It’s being brave enough to say, “I like you,” or “That doesn’t feel right,” without letting the fear of rejection hold you back. I want you to value inner peace over drama and stability over intensity.

The most magnetic thing you can wear this year isn’t the perfect outfit, it’s confidence in who you are deep down.

REBUILDING FROM WITHIN

For anyone healing from heartbreak or still finding their footing, A New Year can feel empty and stir up vulnerability.

But remember, healing isn’t about shutting down, it’s about learning to open up again, wiser than before.

Every time you choose self-respect over chasing someone’s attention, you’re rewriting your own love story. The first chapter always starts with you.

Invest in activities that make you come alive not just to pass time, but to remind yourself of your true magic.

Join a dance class, start hiking, book that spontaneous

weekend trip. The more joy you create independently, the more fulfilled you’ll feel. And it’s that joy that naturally attracts emotionally healthy partners who match your energy. It’s a win, win.

YOUR LOVE MANTRA FOR 2026

Here’s your affirmation to carry through the year: “I attract relationships that honour my peace, match my effort, and inspire my growth.”

Because when you hold that standard, you radiate confidence and clarity. You stop chasing and start receiving. Love isn’t meant to drain you it’s meant to help you expand. So as you step into 2026, don’t view yourself as waiting for the right person. You’re becoming the right person ready to meet love as your happiest, most authentic self. The universe meets you halfway when your intentions align with your truth. This year, let love be easy, let it be kind and let it begin with you.

Love always.

New Year!

Surrey Spa Treatments!

As a judge for the prestigious Surrey Awards, alongside my role as a cover journalist for Surrey Rocks and other luxury titles, I’m always on the look-out for fantastic Surrey businesses to review and recommend.

My fab photographer Julie and I recently sought out some spa treatment and booked a bargain-priced day at The Spa at voco Lythe Hill in Haslemere, where we savoured a swim, sauna and steam room plus a pampering treatment, before indulging in a delicious lunch and mojito cocktails in the charming historic restaurant - all included in the rock-bottom cost.

Ask for Samantha - she’ll give you THE best back massage and facial EVER! www.lythehill.co.uk/spa/

Partying at Box Hill’s Tithe Barn

A few weeks ago, my family and I celebrated not just Christmas but my mum and niece’s joint milestone birthdays at Burford Bridge’s beautiful Tithe Barn in Box Hill

Based in Dorking near Denbies - where we held the inaugural glitzy Surrey Awards in 2023 – Burford Bridge has always been a family fave for fine dining, and following a festive 3-course meal, we all danced the night away to top tunes from the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond in the dazzling barn. Highly recommend a party night with friends or family in this stunning Surrey Hills setting.

Events Experiences in 2026!

Inside Monaco’s New Inner Circle: Where Sport, Film & Fashion Meet Luxury Clients

In 2026, STK’s calendar continues to expand across the key cultural touchpoints that matter to luxury audiences, with our team focus this year on THE ultimate playground of the rich and famous – Monaco.

Monaco has always been a symbol of discretion, glamour and serious wealth, but behind the red carpets a quieter shift is happening - a new generation of curators are using sport, film and fashion not just for photos, but to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with high value clients.

STK International is one of the teams quietly shaping that world, co producing the prestigious World Sports Legends Award (WSLA) held in the principality of Monaco and working with partners across film, TV and luxury events.

Join Us at Monaco’s World Sports Legends Award – The ‘Oscars’ of Sport!

The World Sports Legends Award ceremony is set to return, bringing together sport, entertainment and luxury partners in a format that balances prestige with genuine connection.

Presented to sporting champions both active and retired, past award recipients include F1 legends Mika Häkkinen and Ayrton Senna.

With great world sporting champions, stars from American cinema and VIPs in attendance, for guests, WSLA feels like an evening of elite celebration.

For brands and private banks, it is a rare opportunity to host clients in an environment that is both curated and relaxed, surrounded by champions, creators and decision makers.

Rub shoulders with the stars on the red carpet and at the glamourous gala dinner, witness legendary sportspeople leave their handprints at the Pantheon of World Sporting Legends and more!

What makes these exclusive ‘inner circle’ environments different is not just the red carpet - it is the combination of intimacy and unique access, offering conversations that matter and introductions and connections not publicly available.

For brands, that is increasingly where the real value sits. Traditional advertising still has its place, but high value clients respond to something else: thoughtful hospitality, recognition and unforgettable stories.

STK’s work with WSLA and its broader event portfolio is designed with that in mind, blending live experience with high quality visual content that continues across private

communications and digital channels.

We create environments where brands, private banks and their clients feel part of an inner circle, rather than spectators on the sidelines.

As the lines between sport, film, fashion and finance continue to blur, STK is building bridges between these worlds – one carefully designed night at a time!

STEP INTO 2026 WITH

ANew Year always feels like a fresh start, doesn’t it? It’s that moment when we pause, reflect and think about what we want for the months ahead. Looking for one simple way to make this year better?

Start by listening to your body before those little whispers turn into big problems. Turning to holistic modalities like reflexology will certainly help to keep those signals from taking centre stage.

SO, WHAT DOES REFLEXOLOGY ACTUALLY DO?

By working on pressure points on your feet, face and/or hands, a whole host of physical and mental releases are happening during - and after - just that one hour of therapy.

Noticeable shifts often described as ‘waves of magic’ encourage your central nervous system to reset and restore your body’s natural rhythm.

Reflexology is a good first choice. It’s not just a treat; it’s intelligent self-care. Never underestimate what a deep restorative relaxation reflexology session will do for your body and system.

WHY MAKE TIME FOR IT?

Life can be relentless - emails, deadlines, family, bills and exhausting routines – they all cause stress on your mind and body. Stress touches everything including your sleep, hormones, gut and even your heart health.

REFLEXOLOGY, INTELLIGENT SELF-CARE

Our understanding of stress is greater than it was even a few years ago, therefore combatting stress is key to living a healthier life. Imagine stepping away from all that for just one hour. Your body and mind will thank you for it!

YOUR 2026 RESET STARTS HERE

Forget complicated resolutions. This year, think about how you want to feel. You may wish to set an intention to ‘cultivating calm or bringing in more mindfulness practices’. So go on, give yourself permission to prioritise your health and happiness. Ready to give yourself that time out? Book a holistic session and discover how good it feels to truly allow your body to reset.

Your January Astrology Forecast from PIA TALBOT January 2026 Hot Stars!

Aries

21 MAR – 20 APR

2026 is starting strong for you Aries, as you are honing your skills and working hard on the next achievement. However, don’t fear going through this alone, as there are people close to you that will help along the way. It is unlikely they will be at the forefront of your plans, and will step back to allow you to shine, but nonetheless will be there for you if you need support. Think of something you want to achieve this year. Now turn your attention towards who you think will be best suited to help you get what you want. Remember to trust that other people are as knowledgeable as you are.

Taurus

21 APR – 20 MAY

Being out of control is very distressing for you Taurus. 2025 seemed to be out of your control and it’s time to take the reins back. You know what you like and how you like it. There’s nothing wrong with this. Could you sometimes learn to be a bit more flexible? Yes, but this will come in time. For now, you have a commitment to your values and ideals that will get you back on track. Once you feel you have regained some control back into your life, you can focus on letting go step by step. Don’t overwhelm yourself too quickly. You have the time to go as slowly as you need. Trust the process. You’ve got this!

Gemini

21 MAY – 21 JUNE

Buckle in Gemini, as 2026 is starting with a bang! You are not short of things to do and it is unlikely you will be bored in the coming weeks. This is a positive for you, as Gemini’s worst enemy is boredom. All these responsibilities may not be easy, but you are more than capable of not only getting through them but flourishing because of them. This isn’t the time to procrastinate. More than any sign, you have the energy to get jobs done and focus your energy on what’s important. Keep pushing yourself to be the best you can be. You don’t lack motivation, so keep going and keep being you.

Cancer

22 JUNE – 23 JULY

2025 was your year of reflection, Cancerian, and now it’s time to make some difficult decisions. You have thought through your options enough and whether you believe it or not, are ready to come to a conclusion. Remember how important it is to do right by yourself. It can be easier to make decisions with other people’s happiness in mind, but it is hugely important that you cultivate a life that makes you happy as well. Deep down you know what you truly want, and sometimes it can be hard to admit this to ourselves, but the sooner you do, the happier you’ll be.

Leo

24 JULY – 23 AUG

2025 was a year of growth for you Leo. However, with all this growing you experienced many trials and tribulations, leaving you focused on the negatives and ignoring the positives. It’s time to get back to that almost childlike state of hoping for the best and dreaming big. Don’t allow the pessimistic nature of our world to push that side of you down. Approach each day this year with an open mind. You never know what day may turn out to be the best of your life. Try to have fun, even in the times you find stressful or boring. Make the most of your year and see how a shift in mindset can transform your life.

Virgo

24 AUG – 23 SEPT

2026 brings you a period of selfreflection in order to re-examine your priorities Virgo. You are likely to feel a new calling in your life, but your day-to-day routine isn’t matching up with this. It’s time to connect your outer world with your inner world. It’s all well and good to think about what you want, but now is the time to go for it. Make subtle changes so that your whole life doesn’t change in one day. Take some time right now to think about what it is you want your life to look like. Allow yourself the space to reflect before starting on your new journey. This year is going to be a big one for you!

24 SEPT – 23 OCT

I am very happy to say, Libra, that your pain and sadness is coming to an end. The end of 2025 brought some difficulties into your life, but you are now being released from these woes. This is all down to you. You are releasing the memories of the past and allowing yourself to move into the future. There is a sense of hope about your upcoming year. You are being reborn into a brand new you. If your mind tries to revisit past events, acknowledge your feelings, and gently flow past them. There’s no point in ignoring what you’ve been through, but don’t dwell on any pain you may have previously felt.

SCORPIO

24 OCT – 22 NOV

Scorpio - we need to talk. Why have you been so hard on yourself recently? You should be so proud of everything you have achieved in 2025. 2026 is all about your dreams coming true. It’s safe to say you have worked extremely hard over the year, and you are now going to see the fruits of your labour finally blossom! Don’t limit yourself by dreaming too small. You have the right mindset to go after what you want. Use the beginning of this year to dream big and explore all exciting aspects of your life. You can do anything you set your mind to; you just have to believe it and believe in yourself.

Sagittarius

23 NOV – 21 DEC

As someone who exudes determination and courage, it is likely you have had struggles with confidence, especially throughout 2025. Somewhere along the way, you have felt undeserving of what you have in your life. 2026 is going to fix that. This is a year for YOU. Regain that confidence you once had. Start believing that you are worthy of every little bit of positivity in your life. Why wouldn’t you be? You are a hard worker and a kind soul. However, remember to show the more vulnerable side of your personality. If you’re feeling anxious don’t hide it away. Accept all parts of who you are, and work on a way forward.

Aquarius

21 JAN – 19 FEB

See this as your sign of encouragement Aquarius! Your mind is in ‘expansion mode’ now, leading you to become your most creative and innovative self. You are embracing new ideas and are jumping at the next chance to learn something new. You naturally crave stimulation, and 2026 invites you to produce original ideas only you could dream up. You may be feeling as if you’re floating on a cloud. Go with it. Flow freely without thought of the past. See where these ideas take you, as knowing you Aquarius, it’s going to be an extremely interesting place! Let you mind take over and explore.

Capricorn

22 DEC – 20 JAN

You are a planner Capricorn, and 2026 is going to be all about your long-term view. This is the time to assess where you can best put your time and energy in to get the best results. There’s no point anymore putting effort into an area of your life you’re not getting anything back from. 2025 was an experimental year for you, with lots of trial and error. You now know what works and what doesn’t. Reap the rewards for your hard work and take a large step back from energy-sappers in your life. Focus on the road ahead and not on detours that will end up hurting more than helping.

Pisces

20 FEB – 20 MAR

You are at your most creative Pisces and it’s time to put this into action. You’re getting inspired at the most random moments and it is now too much to keep to yourself. If you are afraid to put yourself out there, just tell one person one of your ideas you may think is crazy and see how they react. Chances are your ideas are actually incredible; you just can’t quite see the vision yet (this is where an Aquarius comes in handy!) If you don’t already have one, buy a beautiful notebook to write down everything that comes into your head. Your potential is limitless. You have nothing to fear.

KIM WILDE

WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING CONSIDERED THE NUMBER ONE BRITISH FEMALE RECORDING ARTIST IN THE 80’S?

All I wanted to do was put out records so this didn’t have a huge impact on me, although this is a great statistic for me!

WHEN ‘KIDS IN AMERICA’ EXPLODED ONTO THE MUSIC SCENE IN 1981 YOU BECAME A STAR OVERNIGHT, HOW DID YOU COPE WITH THE FAME?

I grew up with a famous Dad (Kim’s Dad Marty Wilde was a rock star in the 60’s) so I wasn’t at all starry eyed although I was only 20 when the record came out - I took to becoming a pop star like a duck to water!

WHAT ARE HIGHLIGHTS AND PITFALLS OF BEING A RECORDING ARTIST IN YOUR OPINION?

I love music, writing and singing, creating harmonies, melodies and just going to the studio doing what I love. Plus, I get to work with my brother Ricky who is incredibly talented as a guitar player, managing director, producer and song writer. He is actually known in my family as “the genius!” Pitfalls – definitely has to be the talking! I’m sure in the first few years I spent longer talking than singing.

Original Wild child Kim exploded onto the music scene in the 1980’s defining the sound of the decade with ‘Kids in America’ and subsequent hits ‘Chequered Love,’ ‘You Came’ and ‘You Keep Me Hangin’ On.’ Surrey Rocks caught up with the legendary star and quizzed her on all things musical and somewhat trivial in our 60 Second Interview.

I do like the interviews but when you are doing more of them than singing it’s a hard thing to get your head around.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST CAREER ACHIEVEMENT?

Certainly ‘Kids in America’ - that was an awesome piece of pop.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT?

Becoming a horticulturist. Nature and environment are so important to me and I have done a lot of press on this recently – you don’t have to be retired and old to get into gardening. “Kim and the Courgette” – the new wave of rock and roll!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN SONG WRITING?

Feeling and emotions. My songs are always from a personal perspective.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SONG AND WHY?

‘You Came’ is beautiful, honest and pure. It was originally written by Ricky after the birth of his first son but we worked on the lyrics together so it could mean something to everyone more in the form of a love song.

HAVE YOU GOT ANY NEW MATERIAL COMING OUT?

In the ‘Greatest Hits Album’ we have two new tracks; one with Boy George and another with Thomas Pool – we are keeping to the Kim Wilde classics for the tour though.

WHAT OUR MALE READERS WANT TO KNOW, ARE YOU SINGLE?!

I’ll politely decline to answer that at the moment!

WHAT’S THE ‘WILDEST’ THING YOU HAVE DONE?

I ended up in a hotel lobby naked! After a night off on tour 5 years ago, I mistakenly thought my bedroom door was the bathroom door and locked myself out of my room in just a thong. I had no option but to walk into reception covering my boobs with my hands to get a spare key. It was so embarrassing!

IF YOU HAD TO TAKE 3 THINGS TO A DESERT ISLAND, WHAT WOULD THEY BE?

A piano, secret stash of Fruit Pastels and Dr. Hauschka products for my skin.

WHO WOULD BE YOUR IDEAL CELEBRITY DINNER PARTY GUESTS?

Professor Brian Cox - we’d spend

all night talking about black holes!

BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN?

My parents always said: “Trust your Instincts” and they were right. Even at 62 I do always listen to what my instinct tells me.

BIGGEST INSPIRATION?

My children, Harry and Rose. Rose is at University now and Harry is in a band called Wonderhorse.

WORST HABIT?

Eating too many Fruit Pastels!

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE FUTURE?

We are putting a new album together in the early part of 2023 and there is a lot of change going on. Can’t say much more know but I’m steering a steady ship at the moment and just waiting for the next big wave. You know how it is!

BoConcept designers reveal their top 3 interior trends for 2026

BoConcept explores three de ning interior trends for 2026: con gurable comfort, mindful calm and curated individuality. Homes are evolving into deeply personal sanctuaries, shaped by lifestyle, emotion and intention. It’s a shift that echoes a core Danish value: design as a re ection of self. The Art of Living Danishly isn’t a look or a rulebook; it’s the connection between how you live and how your home supports that life.

BoConcept invited four designers — Italian architect Claudio Bellini, Danish visionary Hans Thyge Raunkjær, long-term BoConcept designer Henrik Pedersen and René Hougaard of ARDE — to explore how these trends are shaping tomorrow’s homes.

Con gurable comfort: Design that adapts Modular furniture remains essential in 2026. Designed to grow, shift and transform, modular pieces allow spaces to evolve without compromise. Bellini’s Milano sofa embodies this movement, offering sculptural elegance and exible functionality. “As an architect, I imagine a landscape you build at home,” explains Bellini. “Design must evolve with life. Modular systems offer freedom – not just in layout, but in expression.” By choosing modular seating, homeowners gain the ability to future-proof their space, allowing sofas to expand or contract with life’s changes. Ottomans and adaptable side tables punctuate seating

arrangements as movable building blocks, while low-pro le or sculptural coffee tables strike a visual balance that keeps the room feeling grounded and harmonious.

Mindful calm: Acoustic sanctuaries

As open-plan living continues, so does the desire for moments of quiet. Soft, rounded forms, layered textiles and sensory design create emotional refuge, transforming corners into sanctuaries. ARDE’s Aarhus sofa, designed for circularity and disassembly, anchors this trend with a focus on sustainability and clarity. “It’s about designing spaces that invite moments of pause, re ection and sensory engagement,” says René Hougaard of ARDE. Claudio Bellini expands on the idea: “Silence has become a form of luxury. I’m inspired to design spaces that offer not just comfort, but a moment of clarity.” Upholstered pieces like the Bolzano or Helena Christensen’s Ø chair wrap the body comfortably, while wool, felt and textured rugs soften acoustics and absorb ambient sound. Even within open layouts, pockets of calm can be created through mindful placement and layered tactility, carving out restful corners that encourage presence.

Curated individuality: Your home, your story

Intentional eclecticism de nes the third trend. Clean contem-

porary lines coexist with heirlooms, art and personal objects. Danish designer Hans Thyge Raunkjær, creator of the Paris lamp, sees a distinctive shift: “We see a trend towards authenticity and individuality. People are curating spaces that re ect their unique tastes.” Henrik Pedersen, designer of the Salamanca sofa and iconic Imola chair, agrees: “It’s important to be true and honest, mixing sleek new designs with personal items.” Rather than subscribing to a single style direction, homes are becoming narratives, where modern pieces sit alongside ceramics collected on travels, inherited objects and art that feels emotionally resonant. Warm materials and curved silhouettes provide cohesion, while display systems like Calgary allow collections and personal treasures to take pride of place.

A future shaped by emotion, craft and care

Across all trends, one thread connects them: designing with intention. In 2026, homes are not styled — they are lived, felt and formed through personal stories. BoConcept continues to lead with timeless Danish design, personalisation and circular thinking.

At Jonathan Rowlandson Design we have provided a unique design and build service for a range of clients for over 20 years. With an emphasis on innovative, contemporary design solutions we have risen to the challenge of every project, interior or exterior. Combining our unique approach to metal items with wood, glass, stone, and other materials. At JRD we offer a range of furniture items including the Otolo range. We also design and produce items sympathetic to their environment, be it a rustic bar restaurant with an artisan feel – normally providing seating, counters, bars, lighting, signage, etc. such as Dog Star Brixton – or one-off sculptural items such as the tables for Vivienne Westwood. Our inspiration will often come from the clients’ desires, as well as tapping into nature and art to find a suitable solution. Hardly any 2 projects are the same, we continue to provide new and hopefully better designs.
