Our team provides an accurate preconstruction process backed by real-time market insight and hands-on involvement from both project managers and superintendents. In a current bond program, our GMP budgets came in 2% below CD estimates, demonstrating our ability to deliver reliable pricing and giving clients confidence that we’ll build within budget. This approach also ensures constructability, safety, and efficient site logistics are addressed early.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Our preconstruction process is especially valuable because it helps ensure that projects align with the funds allocated through the bond program. With limited budgets, schools can’t afford to reach the bidding stage only to discover they’re significantly over budget— forcing time-consuming and costly redesigns. Likewise, overestimating early on can lead to unnecessary compromises in programming to meet a budget that wasn’t accurate to begin with.

He’s been in construction for over three decades, continuing his grandfather’s third generation company. Across the city, Ernie is known for his generosity and philanthropic nature, instilling those same values into the work we do at Straub.

Dan is all about efficiency.
He has played a pivotal role in implementing key processes at Straub, maximizing team autonomy and productivity. He also oversees our Project Management and Preconstruction teams, helping guide them during all phases of preconstruction, construction administration, and beyond.

Giving back to the community is embedded in our DNA. We actively support more than 50 local charities.
We provide materials as well as our project managers, superintendents and laborers to charitable organizations across Greater KC.
And we applaud our employees who volunteer to renovate houses, make presentations to student groups, fundraise for special causes, work at food pantries and remain active in their community churches, schools, scout groups and more.
In 2024, we fought to end hunger, poverty, homelessness, and diaper needs in Kansas City.

Blue Valley Schools | 2023 Bond Program
Overland Park, KS
As part of the Blue Valley School District’s 2023 Bond Issue, we are undertaking seven addition projects.
Currently, at Blue Valley North and Blue Valley Northwest, we are addressing student and athletic growth with a new weight room, wrestling room, and bathroom/vestibule addition. Simultaneously, at Blue Valley West and Harmony Middle School, we are constructing a precast concrete gymnasium that will double as a storm shelter.

Blue Valley Schools | 2023 Bond Program
Blue Valley West Gym Addition
Overland Park, KS
With their continued growth and focus for safety, Blue Valley West has added a new precast concrete gymnasium that will also serve as a storm shelter for students and staff. Blue Valley West is the 2nd of seven projects Straub will complete as part of the district’s 2023 Bond Issue.

Blue Valley Northwest will be adding a new 8,200 SF weight room and will be completing 3,700 SF in renovations. Specifically their existing wrestling room and bathrooms. Blue Valley Northwest is the third of seven Blue Valley projects.
Harmony Middle School Gym Addition

Harmony Middle School will be adding a new precast concrete gymnasium that will serve as a storm shelter for students and staff. Harmony Middle School is the fourth of seven Blue Valley projects.
St. James Academy Master Plan
Lenexa, KS
Since opening in 2005, St. James Academy has seen significant growth in its student population and needs to upgrade its facilities to support modern learning. Over the past few years, we’ve completed various projects, including a new athletic field, media arts and campus ministry upgrades, renovating the SPARK Center, and building a new multipurpose athletic facility. We are currently making stadium enhancements while designing a new performing arts center.

The SPARK Center is open every class period and is staffed by a Math and English teacher, and four tutors. Last year the center saw over 600 unique student visits and outgrew their small classroom. St. Elizabeth Early Childhood Center
Kansas City, MO
A beacon to the Waldo community for over 100 years, St. Elizabeth’s Parish and School needed to improve safety, security and functionality for their students, faculty and staff.
The 20,000 SF project includes a conversion of the existing rectory, built in 1948, into modern learning spaces designed specifically for students’ pre-school through kindergarten. The main sanctuary renovation improves accessibility, functionality, storage and acoustics.

Martin City K-8 Secure Entry
Martin City, MO
The Martin City Elementary and Middle School in the Grandview School District, serves more than 720 students and includes 55 staff members.
This 5,000 SF renovation was an effort to increase student safety and create a more modern environment. Along with the security entry, this renovation transformed testing rooms, reception desks, speech rooms, admin offices, principal’s office, counseling and conference rooms.
With just an 8 week schedule, our team demoed and replaced walls, installed new lighting, windows, carpet tile, epoxy floors, and new doors and door frames.

St. Paul Catholic Church & School
Olathe, KS
Since the 1960s, St. Paul Catholic School had been occupying a leased space that they were quickly outgrowing. Looking to their future, it was decided to build a new school 4-miles down the road with many updated amenities.
The school features 25 classrooms, administrative offices, and a multipurpose room which dually serves as the church, gym and cafeteria.
Shawanoe Elementary
Shawnee, KS
The Shawnee Mission School District needed a new, updated school to replace the existing 56-year old Shawanoe Elementary School.
Utilizing the same site posed some unique construction challenges. The new school was built just 30 feet away from the existing structure, all while keeping students in school uninterrupted. The safety of students and staff played a huge role in constructing Shawanoe.
