I hope you have had a wonderful half term. It was lovely to hear of the adventures the children have had both locally and abroad. I was lucky enough to accompany the children on the St Peter’s 8-13 ski trip to Italy. It was such a tremendous trip with children who have attended St Peter’s 2-8 in the past and current children who have siblings at St Peter’s 813. My thanks to Mr Savage, Mrs Savage, Mrs Hicks, Miss Kendall, Mr Harvey and Miss Flockhart who made us so welcome on their trip.
On Tuesday this week we held our annual staff pancake race. Team Flockhart versus Team Jeffrey competed for the accolade of Pancake Race Champions. The race was won fairly by Team Flockhart and huge thanks to all the staff who took part and most importantly our wonderful children who
enthusiastically cheered them on from the side-lines.
On Thursday children from Reception – Year 3 attended the spring disco organised by the St Peter’s 2-8 Friends. They enjoyed playing party games and danced their hearts out. There were some very impressive dance moves on display and it was clearly evident that they were all having so much fun.
we can purchase another bed bundle for a child who currently doesn’t have a bed to sleep in.
I always find our Celebration Assembly on a Friday morning such a highlight of the week. It was delightful awarding learning superhero awards to members of each class in school and witnessing the pride the children take in receiving these awards. The standard of the children’s work is always excellent and I have taken a photo of our learning superhero display board in the Atrium, that we update weekly to share with you below.
Please do take a look when you are next in school.

My huge thanks to the staff for supervising the disco and the 2-8 Friends who organised the event. The Friends also ran a pop-up café, in the dining hall which raised a further £170 for our school charity Zarach. This has meant
As I am sure many of you are aware my son, Seb and I are huge Newcastle United fans. On Sunday we have been fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to watch them play in the Caraboo Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. We are both eagerly anticipating the result and I am sure it will be an exciting experience whatever the outcome, however our fingers are firmly crossed for some Magpies success on the day!
I am looking forward to seeing the Reception children at swimming tomorrow morning and the rest of the school when we all return on Monday.
Have a lovely weekend.

My name is Adam Habli and I am in 2H.
I have been watching CBBC and I have seen that there has been a terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Lots of people have lost their homes and been killed or hurt. I have cousins in Lebanon and they have felt the earthquake and told me that the ground was wobbling and that they were very worried.
I would like to raise money to send to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help all the people who have been affected.
Next week I will have a charity bucket and will be on the playground before school. If you have any spare money, please put it in my bucket. Thank you very much!

PE
As we move into (hopefully) warmer weather, all year groups will be practicing their tennis skills this half-term.
Week 1 of tennis has been a huge success and we are blown away at the level of tennis being displayed by our children.
Tennis is great for developing hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness, a key focus in the fundamental skills we practice through the school. Small catching games have been thoroughly enjoyed this week and it was fantastic to see many students challenge themselves.
Year 1 to Year 3 children have made excellent progress with their hockey skills. They are much more comfortable when moving with the ball and are currently working on passing on the move.
We are very much looking forward to this half term and please have a look at some of our budding athletes in action.

THE RUNAWAY PANCAKE was our book of the week with it being Shrove Tuesday on the 21st of February.
The Acorns have had a marvellous time playing with 'dough' coloured play dough. The children have rolled, squashed, and moulded all sorts of delicious looking pancakes. We have talked about the ingredients we need to make our own pancakes as well as squeezing copious amounts of lemons and oranges in the water tray to make juice for the pancakes.
The Acorns have had turns to flip and toss pancakes in real frying pans! They were doing so well that we decided to have our very own Acorns Pancake Race, en-route to Forest school. We have some strong contenders for next year's race!
The Runaway Pancake tells the story about the pig who was successful in gobbling up the pancake, well, we made some pancakes too and the children gobbled them faster than the pig could have done. They loved them! We had squeezed lemon juice, cinnamon, and sugar-the real classic!
The sunshine has brightened up our week and we have loved being outdoors on the bikes and the climbing apparatus. A great week full of play!

Reception
What a delicious time we have had in Reception particularly as we celebrated pancake day in our Forest School sessions this week!
The children made their own pancake batter in the Forest and then we cooked our yummy pancakes over the campfire before choosing our topping! We also practised flipping pancakes in our phonic lessons by reading and flipping special paper pancakes!
In phonics the children have been learning the sounds ow, ur, oi and ear through lots of fun, interactive games and have knocked our socks with their brilliant sentence and question writing!
In maths this week we have been learning all about the composition of the numbers 6,7,8 through games such as matching pairs, bingo and making bonds through Lego, numicon and snap cubes!
In our focus skills this week we have been honing our woodwork skills, learning how to create beautiful prints using styrofoam etchings and writing all about our fascination in our special interests books.
We have also loved exploring our new weaving and threading area, well done everyone we can't wait for another exciting week!
Reception
What a fabulous first week back we have had in Year 1! Ithasbeensolovelytohear about all of the wonderful things you got up to in the halfterm!
This week we have been super busy designing and making our very own persuasivebandposters. We looked at what makes a successful band poster and decided that it needed to be persuasive, include bossy verbs and be really bright and colourful with standout writing!
We used the app 'Pic Collage' to make our final designs and they are just wonderful, wecan'twaitfor youtoseethem. Iwonderif you can make another one athome,Year1?
Ithasbeenwonderfultosee so much reasoning and problem-solving in maths this week. We have been estimating where numbers could be placed on the number line and the children were excellent at using their mathematical knowledge to accurately place numbers on the numberline.
This week saw the welcome return of Y2 after the half term break.
We all felt rested after the excitement of Young Voices on the Thursday and the VERY late night for all! We have been learning about why we have seasons, the names of months and units of time, ahead of telling the time next week.
The children were fascinated by the facts of earth’s orbit around the sun , what the word ‘lunar’ means and making models of the sun, earth and moon to show this, along with seasons wheels. Our text, The Polar Bear’s Explorer Club, is set in an imaginary place, based on the Arctic where Stella is setting out on her first expedition. We have learnt about a similarly cold country, Iceland, and made pamphlets describing the features of this fascinating country.
In art we made self portraits, dressed as characters from the Polar Bear Explorer Club, who were all men…until Stella Starflake Pearl joined and showed them how much girls and women can do!
The children have all been so excited to use Times Tables Rockstars over the last few weeks. We have been running a trial and now that school are subscribing, we have sent home the log ins and information this evening. Happy times tabling all of Year 2…. We will see you all on Monday!
YEAR THREE
What an adventure it has been in Year 3 this week!
Our learning has been centred around Brazil and in particular, the carnival! We began the week by looking at the religious celebrations that have taken place and learnt about why these days are important to people who follow Christianity. We learnt about why Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday are celebrated and how this links to the carnival in Rio! We discovered that the carnival symbolises the beginning of Lent and is well-known for being an incredible spectacle of samba dancing, live music in the streets, worldclass parades and colourful costumes. We enjoyed our own Brazil themed day on Wednesday where we designed and created our own masks, baked some delicious Pao de Quaijo inspired snacks and did some sight seeing of the incredible landmarks across the country.
Using the information we gathered, we used the iPads to work collaboratively to create a movie trailer, encouraging people to visit the sights of Brazil. To best entice the viewers, we included lots of bossy verbs and exciting vocabulary. In addition to this, we made clay llamas to round off our South American adventures. After our week in Brazil, we are now making our way to Alaska and will be travelling via Central and North America.
In Maths we continued our work on measurement, looking specifically and perimeter and how to measure these. We have got many more exciting events happening next week and look forward to continuing our journey through the Americas with Tom.
