What a fabulous first week back we have had in Year 1! Ithasbeensolovelytohear about all of the wonderful things you got up to in the halfterm!

This week we have been super busy designing and making our very own persuasivebandposters. We looked at what makes a successful band poster and decided that it needed to be persuasive, include bossy verbs and be really bright and colourful with standout writing!

We used the app 'Pic Collage' to make our final designs and they are just wonderful, wecan'twaitfor youtoseethem. Iwonderif you can make another one athome,Year1?

Ithasbeenwonderfultosee so much reasoning and problem-solving in maths this week. We have been estimating where numbers could be placed on the number line and the children were excellent at using their mathematical knowledge to accurately place numbers on the numberline.

This week saw the welcome return of Y2 after the half term break.

We all felt rested after the excitement of Young Voices on the Thursday and the VERY late night for all! We have been learning about why we have seasons, the names of months and units of time, ahead of telling the time next week.

The children were fascinated by the facts of earth’s orbit around the sun , what the word ‘lunar’ means and making models of the sun, earth and moon to show this, along with seasons wheels. Our text, The Polar Bear’s Explorer Club, is set in an imaginary place, based on the Arctic where Stella is setting out on her first expedition. We have learnt about a similarly cold country, Iceland, and made pamphlets describing the features of this fascinating country.

In art we made self portraits, dressed as characters from the Polar Bear Explorer Club, who were all men…until Stella Starflake Pearl joined and showed them how much girls and women can do!

The children have all been so excited to use Times Tables Rockstars over the last few weeks. We have been running a trial and now that school are subscribing, we have sent home the log ins and information this evening. Happy times tabling all of Year 2…. We will see you all on Monday!
