Reception

What an adventure it has been in Year 3 this week!

Our learning has been centred around Brazil and in particular, the carnival! We began the week by looking at the religious celebrations that have taken place and learnt about why these days are important to people who follow Christianity. We learnt about why Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday are celebrated and how this links to the carnival in Rio! We discovered that the carnival symbolises the beginning of Lent and is well-known for being an incredible spectacle of samba dancing, live music in the streets, worldclass parades and colourful costumes. We enjoyed our own Brazil themed day on Wednesday where we designed and created our own masks, baked some delicious Pao de Quaijo inspired snacks and did some sight seeing of the incredible landmarks across the country.

Using the information we gathered, we used the iPads to work collaboratively to create a movie trailer, encouraging people to visit the sights of Brazil. To best entice the viewers, we included lots of bossy verbs and exciting vocabulary. In addition to this, we made clay llamas to round off our South American adventures. After our week in Brazil, we are now making our way to Alaska and will be travelling via Central and North America.

In Maths we continued our work on measurement, looking specifically and perimeter and how to measure these. We have got many more exciting events happening next week and look forward to continuing our journey through the Americas with Tom.
