Etonbury Academy

The last half of the Summer Term at Etonbury has seen a hive of activity with numerous events, activities and planning for the next academic year and beyond. We were delighted that our Year 11s were able to celebrate the end of their Etonbury Experience and GCSEs with a garden party held in a marquee on the school grounds. They have had one of the hardest academic years for examinations, and we are so proud of the way in which they have dealt with the effects of the pandemic at school. We sincerely wish them all the very best in their next steps, and hope they remain in touch. Working with our community has become a focus for the school, and in particular our Student Voice team. They have met with Stotfold Town Council to help support their Riverside development project, and will soon be participating in a site visit to feed in more ideas. The proactive team meet each other regularly, and have been involved in improving the school environment and provide valuable feedback for supporting teaching and learning. The team is made up of over 40 students, and they have just been awarded UK STUDENT VOICE AWARD 2021 runner up! Transitions into Etonbury Juniors and the Secondary School have been an important part of this half term. These help our children move into the school with confidence, and reduce any anxieties they may have. Our Year 4s from all the feeder schools were beaming when they were collecting their Google Chromebooks and Etonbury backpacks. Our Year 6s have also been part of an extensive transition programme and have been involved in numerous activities in Art, English, Design and technology, Food technology, Media and Drama. They are very excited to hear we have been lucky enough to be performing ‘Matilda’ in the Autumn Term when hopefully you will be able to book tickets to come and watch! Sport has continued to be a big part of our school. Our PE department ran their own Euro interform tournament and the support from teachers and students with their banners on the sidelines at the 3G pitch every lunchtime has brought a real sense of community and fun into school. Also, a huge congratulations to Evie who is now part of the Regional Netball team and Lennon who has been signed to Cambridge FC Academy for another year. Across the curriculum our Year 10 Childcare class have visited Gothic Mede Academy. These visits have provided our students with valuable c ontent for their written work, as well as given them enthusiasm for working in childcare. Thank you to GMA for their support. Despite all the challenges we have all faced with COVID, Etonbury is going from strength to strength. We ntend to build on our success and develop your children and our staff to be the best that they can be.
