Grab Your
Remembered. Piece of Local She Will Always Be
Staff at Georges Fish & Chip Shop on Stotfold High Street have been busy working together to find a way to remember their much loved colleague Rachel after she tragically passed away at work a few weeks ago.
Rachel had worked at the shop since it opened and was incredibly popular with both customers and Rachel, a much loved colleagues alike. Rachel was very member of staff and much a ‘people person’ and wonderful friend to many. enjoyed nothing more than making sure that everyone else was looked after and was happy. Rachel’s colleague Lola told the Stotfold News Magazine “Rachel was a very much loved member of our team at Georges Place and a wonderful friend. She is hugely missed by everyone that knew and loved her.”
History.
‘A Place In The Country’ the story of the Three Counties Asylum (now known as Fairfield) looks back at the history of the institution, the lives of the many residents that passed through the doors and the staff that worked there. The book is full of personal stories as well as plenty of factual information and an abundance of photographs to help illustrate it. Copies of the book are available priced £5 by scanning the QR code to the right. All proceeds from the sale of the books will go towards local charity Respite at Home. To organise delivery of the book call or message Janet on 07954 699074
Lola, aged 17 was instrumental in administering first aid to Rachel whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive and is keen for something positive to come out of what was an incredibly traumatic ordeal for everyone involved. In memory of Rachel, Lola, together with her colleagues, has decided to launch a fundraising page asking for donations in order to install a defibrillator on the side of the High Street shop. “We all hope that by installing a defibrillator on the premises where Rachel worked, people would be reminded of the positive impact Rachel had upon everyone she met” Lola told the Magazine. “The thought of a defibrillator helping to save somebody elses life in the future is also one of great comfort and something we know Rachel would have loved.“ ”It really is a fitting tribute to our wonderful, caring friend.” The link to the JustGiving page is below (there is also a link on the Stotfold News social media pages & the Stotfold Town Council facebook page.) https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/raisefundsforrachel Stotfold Town Council will be holding their third FREE defibrillator training session on November 3rd at the Greenacre Centre. Register your interest by emailing stotfold.news@yahoo.co.uk. The session is almost at capacity, however there are still a few places left at the time of going to press.

Fireworks Night In Memory Of Richard Try noise desensitisation tools: Use recordings designed to help them adjust to common loud noises, like fireworks or thunderstorms. Gradual exposure to these sounds can help them associate them with everyday life and feel more comfortable when the bangs begin. Set up a cosy safe space/den: Ensure they have a designated retreat area. create a safe space, such as a cardboard box or crate. The den can be a place your pet already uses, adapted to be as comfortable, dark, and quiet as possible.
Consider calming products: Several products are available to help soothe anxious pets, including Adaptil, Feliway, and Pet Remedy. The plug-in diffusers are effective at releasing calming pheromones. If your pet has extreme noise phobia, booking a veterinary consultation is recommended. Thank you to Henlow Vets for supplying us with this advice.

On the 6th December the 23/24 Stotfold Junior Under 16 Lilac team will be sponsoring the Stotfold FC First team match against Welwyn Garden City in memory of friend to the side, Richard Bysouth who sadly lost his brave battle against cancer in February this year.
Richard was a massive fan of the Stotfold Juniors and also a huge source of encouragement, wit, and compassion, especially towards the Lilac squad. Never turning down the linesman flag and always happy to help out, Richard was hugely supportive of not only the players but also the coaches. Richard was truly second to none. Richard is most sorely missed and by sponsoring this football match in his memory, the team are keen to show how much of an impact he had on them all. The team will be using the match day to raise funds for the Garden House Hospice who provided outstanding care and support to Richard and his family during a very difficult time. Your LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor,
It is amazing how quickly September has come around and with it the annual MacMillan Coffee Morning to raise funds for the Cancer Support Charity. This year, for the first time, the Stotfold Good Neighbour Group held the event at The Roecroft Centre.
Dear Editor,
I just want to say a big Thank You to all the people who helped us when my husband became ill outside The Haven on Friday 26th September. Thank you especially to the man who phoned for an ambulance and the lady who stayed with us until it arrived, two hours later and also all the passers-by who offered help and support.
Thank you everyone. Greta and Ian McLeod. It was a brilliant day and a very nice venue which provided all the necessary space and access that was required by our elderly guests. Once again, all the cakes and savouries, together with drinks were made and served by the students of the Academy of Central Bedfordshire and were delicious as usual. All the students must be complemented for their efficiency and courtesy to all of those who attended. Many thanks to all the students and teachers who prepared everything. Volunteers of the Good Neighbour Group did a grand job ferrying people to and fro from the Centre.and everyone said what a great place it was to hold an event such as this. The generosity of all those attending raised £442.00 for the charity which we know will be greatly appreciated. Thank you to all who helped to make this such a special occasion for such a worthy cause. Christine Horsley Stotfold Good Neighbour Group Dear Editor,
I would like to thank everyone who attended our coffee morning on Saturday 13th September for the Macmillan Cancer Support. During the morning 33 friends, relations, neighbours and acquaintances drank tea and coffee, sampled a variety of homemade cakes and chatted in our garden. Thanks to their generosity and donations from those who could not attend, plus money donated from the sale of a neighbour’s bike, we raised £500 for this very worthy cause. SPECIAL FEATURE
Commonwealth and War Graves - Stotfold Cemetery by Stephen McKenna MBE
Stotfold Cemetery is listed in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as there are 2 Commonwealth War graves from the First World War and 3 from the Second World War. There were countless Stotfold residents who served in the wars, with many killed in action. Most poignant is the amount who joined the Bedfordshire Regiment recorded as “Fate: Killed in Action” in the duty location of France and Flanders during the First World War. It is only five who are buried in Stotfold Cemetery, so with Remembrance Day approaching I decided to carry out a bit of research, varying levels of information available but it would be wonderful to know if anybody has anything to add. 507533 Flight Sergeant Thomas William Chellew – Royal Air Force Personal Inscription: And with the morn those angel faces smile, which we have loved and lost awhile Awards:1939–1945 Star/War Medal 1939 –1945 George Medal Forces War Records: Son of Mr and Mrs Tom Chellew; Husband of Lilian Chellew of Stotfold.
their enlistment. These individuals received a service number and were then returned to civilian life, awaiting a call-up or training opportunity for mobilization in the event of war. Previously a motor mechanic he joined as an “Aircrafthand”.
Flight Sergeant Thomas William Chellew
Private Gordon Thomas Cooper
Records indicate that Flight Sergeant Chellew joined the RAF prior to the war. Born in 1909 his RAF Service Record indicates he joined at the age of 18, precisely recorded as 18 263/365 (day of year) in November 1927. However, he is also recorded as a Class F Reservist which was a pre-World War II Royal Air Force (RAF)
Volunteer Reserve designation for airmen, particularly pilots, who had experience but were not needed for active training or service at the time of 12
Private Bertram Bygrave
Contact stotfold.news@yahoo.co.uk
It would appear Flight Sergeant Chellew made a career of the RAF, at the age of 37 his date of death was 23 November 1946, post war, where he is listed as a serving Flight Sergeant with 595 Squadron. During his career he was awarded the George Medal for an extreme act of bravery at the rank of Corporal, as recorded in the Supplement to the London Gazette, 13 July 1943:
One morning in January 1943, an aircraft crashed on taking off and caught fire. Corporal Chellew, the NCO in charge of the fire tender, was quickly on the scene of the accident, but it was impossible to bring the tender to within 200 yards of the crash owing to the difficult terrain. With complete disregard for his own safety, Corporal Chellew entered the wreckage and extricated an injured airman. He succeeded in extricating 2 more bodies from the wreckage. Although the aircraft was burning fiercely and small arms ammunition was exploding, while two 250lb unexploded bombs remained on the aircraft Corporal Chellew continued to search for the fourth member of the crew. He finally located the body pinned beneath the propeller. With assistance he removed the engine and the propeller and then dragged the body clear. Corporal Chellew displayed high courage, with no thought for his own safety.
5951142 Private Gordon Thomas Cooper – Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment Personal Inscription: A son we loved so sadly missed a silent tear for one so dear. Awards: 1939 – War Medal 1939 – 1945 Forces War Records: Son of Frank and Florence E R Cooper of Stotfold.
Little detail is available of the exact incident that Private Cooper suffered but he was reported to the War Office Casualty Section on 11 December 1939 as “dangerously ill”. What is pertinent is whilst he is also recorded as dangerously ill he is recorded as a casualty so likely to be through injuries received in battle. It would appear that he did not survive any injuries sustained as a month later on 12 January 1940 his passing was reported to the War Office Casualty Section with fate recorded as “died” at the age of 20.
His final unit is recorded as “Infantry Training Centre”. This is probably because all soldiers must be held on the strength of a unit when “Y listed” a term which generally relates to individuals posted home (the UK) due to sickness or wounds, reported sick at home or prisoners of war returning home and still does to this day.
9792 Private Bertram Bygrave – Bedfordshire Regiment Personal Inscription:None Awards: Memorial Death Plaque of WW1/British War Medal WW1/Victory Medal/1914 - 15 Star Forces Ware Records: Stotfold (no other detail) Unusually the grave is marked as B Bygrave, just an forename initial, but research confirms this is a Bertram Bygrave. It would appear that this soldier was wounded but managed to return home with his fate recorded as “Died of Wounds at Home” on 15 December 1915. Amongst his awards is the Memorial Death Plaque of WW1 (picture is not that of Pte Bygrave’s plaque) which was often referred to in numerous ways such as Dead Man’s Penny or Widow’s Penny. In October 1916 the British Government setup a committee for the idea of a commemorative plaque that could be given to the next of kin for those men and women whose deaths were due to WW1. Made from Bronze, 120mm in diameter, it depicts Britannia holding a trident standing with a lion. In her left hand Britannia holds an oak wreath above a rectangular tablet bearing the decease’s names cast in raised letters but it would not have stated rank as there was to be equality between sacrifices made by individuals. Two dolphins around Britannia represent Great Britain’s sea power and at the bottom is the emblem of Imperial Germany’s eagle being torn apart by a lion. Around the edge of the plaque it was engraved “He/She died for freedom and honour”. The first a next of kin would know of a death would be the arrival of a telegram from the War Office. This would have been followed by the Death Plaque and any medals the service man or woman would have earned serving their country.
6903 Private Ernest Hancock – C Company 2nd Battalion East Surrey Regiment Personal Inscription: Rest in Peace Awards: Memorial Death Plaque of WW1/British War Medal WW1/ Victory Medal/1914 - 15 Star Forces War Records: Husband of Beatrice Hancock of High Street, Stotfold. Whilst serving in the theatre described as France & Flanders Private Hancock was listed as “wounded” on the Casualty List issued by the War Office from 11 October 1915.
In 1916 King George V approved the introduction of a World War 1 “Wound Stripe” which was a vertical, gold coloured strip of braid sewn onto the uniform of soldiers who had been wounded in combat. The stripe was worn on the lower left sleeve with each stripe representing an instance of being wounded. Although Private Hancock died as a result of his wounds on 28 November 1915, prior to the introduction of the stripe, he is listed posthumously as entitled to wear a Wound Stripe. “This man was entitled to wear a "Wound Stripe" as authorised under Army Order 204 of 6th July 1916. The terms of this award being met by their naming in this list”. 5952274 Private Edward Leonard Scott – 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment Personal Inscription: Gone from our home but not from our thoughts. Always remembered Awards: 1939 – 1945 Star/War Medal 1939 – 1945 Forces War Records: Son of William and Beatrice Scott of Stotfold Born in 1919. Other than awards there does not appear to be much information on this soldier other than reported to the War Office Casualty Section on 19 January 1942 as fate “Died”.
As an Army veteran of 28 years’ service, it is paramount to me that those who gave their lives in both World Wars plus all wars and conflicts since, are forever remembered. If ever you pass these graves, do take a moment to pay your respects for the sacrifices they made.
Private Edward Leonard Scott
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.

Mental Health What’s your fuel?
Once the clocks go backwards the dark hours increase which many find difficult. As a summer person myself, I’ve always preferred the seasons that allow me to play out late in daylight, without getting frozen.
I love everything up to and around Christmas but once January comes, I’m over the cold, dark days. This self-knowledge about the long, dark days of Winter, informs my game plan in managing it. I fuel up by adjusting my mental health maintenance program before I need to – prevention is still better than cure. I increase exercise that I love, not just to keep up with cake and crisp consumption but to help my mental (thought life) and emotional health (feelings). I reduce nighttime outings so I can stay cosy at home. I keep lists of TV I want to watch ready for when I am free. I plan and book fun nights with friends around food and/or dancing. I experiment with batch baking new slow cooker/soup recipes and I start cooking Sunday roasts (or going somewhere that does). I also increase worship
BAL & CO. MOTOR CARE
Matters
through song and dance. Where possible, I decrease stress and increase pleasure (fuel).I implement these practices to support myself to keep noticing all the treats that Winter offers, while increasing comfort inducing activities for all the challenges, like less daylight. And I book breaks to be beside the seaside minus the crowds. I refuse to miss what there is to enjoy because of what I don’t enjoy. I know what nourishes me psychologically, spiritually and physically and I increase portion sizes and frequency accordingly. Some call this their fuel.
As we enter the season where some put fuel on their home fires, all of us need to know and apply what will keep us fuelled over Winter. Stotfold Town Council
Screen on the Green A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Stotfold’s very first outdoor cinema event, Screen on the Green.
The event was proudly sponsored by First Step Estate Agents. We were fortunate with the weather, and it was wonderful to see so many residents of all ages coming together to enjoy the three films in the open air.
Overview & Scrutiny Committee Stotfold Town Council is inviting applications from residents to join a brand-new Overview and Scrutiny Committee, which will play an important role in reviewing and shaping the services provided for our community.
The committee will meet four times a year to look at a range of council activities, such as how we manage the Town Council’s budget and how we run our community facilities, including our allotments and cemetery.
This is an exciting opportunity for local people to get directly involved in making sure our services are efficient, effective, and deliver value for money. The committee will be made up of four town councillors and four members of the public, working together to ask questions, review information, and make recommendations for improvement.

Friends of Stotfold Cemetery Some of you will already be aware of the beautiful space that can be found in the Cemetery on Mill Lane. The Council have been running several events at the Chapel, to explain the history of how the Cemetery was initially established and to talk about some of the interesting people whose last resting place is there.
Several surveys held over the last couple of years have identified a wide range of wildlife, from bats to badgers, and from rabbits and squirrels to the hundreds of birds that residents can hear as they walk in the different sections. We are keen to preserve our history and strike a balance between conservation, preservation and restoration of the site. We have been working with local residents to take care of older graves where families are no longer around, help tidy some of the young hedges that have been planted recently, and work to identify wildlife as well as planning future planting in the Cemetery. News from Despite the best efforts of Storm Amy, Stotfold Mill’s 19th Working Steam & Agricultural Weekend went ahead as planned on the 4-5th of October. Whilst the Saturday was decidedly windy, the Sunday warmed up into a lovely, sunny autumnal afternoon, perfect for slowing down and experiencing the age of working steam and traditional ways of milling and working the land. Our Working Steam’ event, which originated with ploughing matches to celebrate the end of The Working Steam event was a huge success. the harvest season has now grown into one of the most popular working steam events in the area. This year, once again, our fields were packed with vintage tractors, working steam and traction engines, Showman engines and demonstrations of heritage ways of life including ploughing, threshing, and tractor pulling. Our Mill team were busy milling flour and oats - 2025 attractions included donkey rides for children (subsidised by the Mill) as well as Alpaca walking which brought a smile to both the young and the young at heart! Together with the magnificent Shire horses demonstrating ploughing on our top fields and the ever-popular sheep show, we think it was our best event yet for animal lovers! If you have any other feedback or ideas on how we could make the event even better – please do let us know at: enquiries@stotfoldmill.com If you captured any photos of the event and would like to share these images for future use by the Mill in our

Please submit your entries to SocialMedia@stotfoldmill.com It is money raised through our major events and the efforts of all our volunteers that ensures we can keep the Mill and the Nature Reserve operating throughout the year: opening most Sundays in spring, summer and early autumn; offering educational visits for local schools and children's groups and mill visits and teas for community groups; supporting the work of Teasel in maintaining our Nature Reserve and continuing to be at the heart of Stotfold and its community. By the time you read this article, this year’s last open Sunday at the Mill on Sunday 19th October will have passed. Some of our teams remain active throughout the winter though so if you are interested in joining us and helping to keep the wheels of our mill turning, please get in touch. Poppies Nursery Welcome to our November news:
Autumn is upon us with hints of winter around the corner! Children have loved playing with beautifully coloured leaves, looking at their colours, size, texture, shape and smells. Nature activities form a large part of our curriculum and Brad, our outdoor co-ordinator enjoys introducing our children to forest school activities. Children have opportunity to play outside each day, learning how to dress for the weather conditions and understanding that fun can be had throughout the year, both inside and outside! During this term we explore Black History Month, Space week and create firework pictures and dances. We also introduce children to Diwali, and Christmas activities have also been started! Children have been exploring dance styles from around the world with our Dance Leader, Charlotte, with children loving both the music, different beats and movement.
The photographer is visiting both settings, providing families with beautiful pictures for Christmas. Children are also making Christmas cards for their families to order, and a group tea towel has been made where every nursery child drew a self-portrait!

News from
Roecroft Lower School Welcome to the November edition of Roecroft news. I have written this during a rather warm spell in October and wonder what the November weather has brought with it. I very much enjoy the winter months, so am hoping we are experiencing some crisp mornings with not too much rain. This month we have an update from our Key Stage 2 team, who have had a rather busy start to the school year: Year 3
The new school year began with a burst of enthusiasm as our Year 3 pupils returned eager to learn and explore. Their first English unit focused on non-chronological reports, where they wrote informative pieces about their class birds. Later in the term, they turned their attention to poetry and descriptive writing, letting their imaginations take flight. A highlight of the term was our Art topic on L.S. Lowry. The children were fascinated by his portrayal of industrial life and his signature ‘matchstick’ figures. They explored his use of colour, perspective, and composition, and then created their own Lowry-inspired pieces using a range of

media including pastels, charcoal, and paint. In Geography, we began by exploring the United Kingdom, using atlases to locate major rivers, cities, and surrounding seas.
Year 4 Our Year 4 pupils have made a fantastic start to their final year at Roecroft. They’ve embraced their roles as school leaders, applying for positions in committees such as the Art Council, Science Ambassadors, and Eco Warriors. Their enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference have already begun to shine through.
The children enjoying their roles on various committees
In History, the children have been exploring the Roman Empire, learning how it was built, expanded, and sustained. They investigated Roman engineering, daily life, and the legacy left behind in Britain. This historical knowledge fed directly into their English lessons, where they wrote non-chronological reports aimed at younger readers. Packed with strange and fun Roman facts, their writing was both informative and entertaining! Science introduced the concept of electricity, and the children were thrilled to build their own circuits.
In Design & Technology, pupils explored mechanisms and created persuasive posters with moving parts. Their chosen topics reflected their passions, from animal welfare and rainforest protection to promoting sports and healthy lifestyles. The creativity and conviction in their designs were truly inspiring. What wonderful learning, thank you for sharing it with us KS2. With warmest wishes, Mrs Cross.

Fairfield Park Lower School At Fairfield, we’ve had a wonderful time celebrating Arts Week!
The children immersed themselves in art, diversity, and the environment, all through our unique Golden Thread Curriculum. Our aim was to spark creativity, build confidence, and encourage teamwork—and the week truly did just that.
Through music, drama, dance, history, and visual art, pupils expressed themselves, celebrated their individuality, and shared their talents with pride. Each year group explored a different musical, creating their own props and costumes, and taking to the stage to perform and act with incredible enthusiasm. Throughout October, we also marked Black History Month with assemblies themed around “Standing Firm in Power and Pride.” These sessions encouraged pupils to reflect on strength, identity, and the importance of equality.
We have also celebrated Religious Diversity Days, an important part of our Religious Education curriculum. Most recently, pupils have been learning about Diwali and Hinduism, deepening their understanding of faith, tradition, and cultural celebration. It has been a busy and successful autumn term here at Etonbury Academy. Last month we held our Open Evening for prospective parents. It was a hugely successful evening, attended by over1000 people. Our student ambassadors were responsible for guiding visitors through the Junior and Secondary school, as always, they were impressive representatives of Etonbury, articulate and expressive as they communicated with many different families. Megan and Angelo, our student principals, delivered speeches to all prospective families during Mrs. Young's presentations.
Recently we had an exciting opportunity to take a group of our top attaining year 11 students to visit Pembroke College at Cambridge University. The students were fantastic, modelling the ETA way particularly when engaging with researchers in subject taster sessions. They were encouraged not to immediately dismiss unfamiliar courses like anthropology, using UCAS and Unifrog websites to help them research careers and courses. This month, we are excited to open our doors and welcome visitors to our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 6th November. Presentations from our head of Sixth Form Mrs Dowden at 5.30pm and 6.15pm, with booking via www.etonbury.org.uk/sixth-form/openevening-event or scan the QR code.

Welcome to our news and information - Please follow us on our social media to keep up to date with all of our latest developments. We truly appreciate the support of our community - Thank you. We continue to get massive support from our followers and friends and for that I’m, as always, so so grateful and blessed. We have already had, would you believe, Christmas planning meetings and are in the process of putting together a wish list, so keep an eye out, as we need your help again. Moving on to the Chapel project phase 1. We believe and pray, that we will be operational fully out of the Chapel by the end of October or early November, which is nothing short of a miracle, and we thank God for his grace and favour on our ministry.
Your financial support and prayer support has made all this possible and again thank you all, you know who you are, but more importantly God knows, and I pray blessing on all of you. phase 2 is moving on, with drawings being drawn and planning now being sought. As for me, my plan is to retire early next year from leading the project but still be involved with developing phase 2.
We have completed our interview
process and have, after a lot of prayer and discussion, appointed my successor. Praise God! To be named soon!
In closing, I would like to, as always, really thank everyone of our wonderful volunteers, who have worked so hard during our harvest period Thank you to every school and Church who shared their harvest with us. I also get the chance to talk to children of most ages, and I love talking to them and explaining about sharing the harvest. Yesterday, for example, I went to a nursery school and felt after a few minutes they were on it. Well suffice to say, a little boy in the middle of the talk, looked at me and said to me, ‘You have no hair’. That was it, we left soon after, still laughing! Tomorrow I am going to a nursing home for a harvest service and a talk. I wonder how that will turn out! Although last year it was brilliant, and elderly people can really sing. In closing, thanks again for everything and remember, PRAISE GOD ALWAYS, Gordon.

Thank you to Nev Alston for sharing this photograph recently on the History of Stotfold facebook page - it shows the Stotfold Festival Queen and her court from back in 1951. The Queen’s name we think was Betty Do you know anyone else pictured here? It is a lovely photo and we thank Nev for bringing it to light once again and sharing it. If you enjoy all things Stotfold history related and are online then the History of Stotfold Group is worth a look!
Stotfold Festival Queen and her court - 1951. Can you share any of the names with us?
Do you have an interest in local history? We would love to hear your memories, see your photographs and find out more about the history of our town - Call us on 01462 731986 or email stotfold.news@yahoo.co.uk Thank you to Chris Webster for loaning us this wonderful book ‘Three Counties Hospital’ Centenary 1860-1960.
If you are fortunate to own a copy or have managed to read a copy, then you will know that it provides an incredible insight in to the hospital written by Rev Arthur Monk, the then resident Chaplain. The book portrays life at the Asylum since it first opened in 1860. Most surprising for us was the huge amount of patients that passed through the hospital doors - well over 1,000 patients per year.
Often, the effect of disease was felt throughout the asylum, with smallpox, scarlett fever, influenza, pneumonia and dysentery among other illnesses, causing the deaths of many patients and staff alike. Records show large numbers of those admitted to the
hospital also dying from what was recorded as simple ‘senile decay.’
The book catalogues many events throughout the first 100 years, the staff that worked there, those people who were instrumental steering rh hospital into the future and the patients - many of who lived at Fairfield for most, if not all of their adult lives.
The book concludes with the centenary celebrations in 1960 which included a staff ball and Grand Fete opened by the Duchess of Bedford. Thank you to Chris for sharing this book with us. There is no doubt that the hospital site has many stories to tell.

ST GUTHLAC’S CHURCH, ASTWICK
Our farmer has now drilled the fields and planted new seed for next year’s harvest. The work is done, and now it’s in the hands of creation to grow and flourish. I was listening to the local radio back in early October, where a farmer shared how toxic waste had been dumped in the middle of his field. Because it was on his land, he was responsible for the cleanup—costing up to £30,000. The entire crop, and even the soil itself, was ruined. Our lives can sometimes feel like that too. We work hard— building careers, families, relationships, and caring for loved ones—but then something or someone enters our lives and threatens to undo our efforts. It can leave us disheartened, bitter, and weary. Jesus understands that. That’s why He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”He offers a spiritual rest that renews the soul—a peace and comfort found only in a relationship with Him, in contrast to the heavy burdens of life. It’s simple, really: hand over every worry to Him, and watch Him work. Areminder that our annual Christmas Candlelight Carol Service is on Monday 22nd December at 7:30pm: Carols led by the Stotfold Christian Choir. We look forward to welcoming you. Bernadette - Church Warden
