The goal was to to focus on transforming the clubhouse into a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere, encouraging greater use by residents, potentially attracting new members and enhancing the value of the properties at Sunrise Lakes Phase 4
Key changes include:
• Modernized Interiors: Outdated aesthetics have been replaced with a contemporary look, featuring new, flooring, lighting, and furniture.
• Improved Amenities: The renovated space now includes enhanced amenities designed to support a wider range of activities, potentially including areas for quiet time, recreational options like the best in local talent theater shows, games, arts and crafts, community dances, pickleball courts and an assortment of exercise classes taught by experienced instructors.

DISTRICT
Dear Residents,
NEWS
I hope everyone is enjoying time with friends and family over the summer months. I wanted to remind Residents that they can contact us at the Recreation District through our website www.sl4recdistrict.com for issues involving the Rec District.
Joseph Mallen SLP4 Recreation District Manager
Some Residents have written us concerned about the lakes and how low they are, and can anything be done. The short answer is no, not much can be done to raise water levels in the lakes. Summer is our “rainy season” and we rely on that rain to keep our lakes full and beautiful. Unfortunately, South Florida has been experiencing drought conditions for some time. According to www.drought.gov this has been the driest January to June on record since 1895. For that period, our precipitation has only been 20.18”, which is down 3.5” from normal. Lake Okeechobee, which supplies most of our water in the region is also down. To further compound things, the Army Corp of Engineers and S Florida Water Management work together to manage and lower lake and canal levels in anticipation of hurricane season.
A lot of information, but we want Residents to know if we could magically raise the water levels in the lakes we would. The water from the lakes is used to irrigate all of the landscaping in Phase 4. We have looked at ways to reduce some of that usage on the golf course and around our District property without damaging the landscaping. The HOA’s are probably looking to do the same. At times we’ve had to turn fountains off because the water level is so low that the fountains begin to pump mud.
I say all of this to let Residents know we are aware of the situation and are looking at ways to manage the situation. Hopefully, Mother Nature will help us out and send some rain our way soon.

National Watermelon Day
National Watermelon Day on August 3 celebrates the refreshing summertime treat enjoyed at picnics and fairs! And since watermelon is 92% water, it is very satisfying in the summer heat.
This vine-like flowering plant originated from southern Africa. While the word watermelon refers to both the fruit and the plant to botanists, the plant is a pepo. The pepo is a berry with a thick rind and fleshy center. Interestingly, pepos develop from an inferior ovary. They are also characteristic of the Cucurbitaceae, a scientific term for the gourd family.
While the watermelon fruit is loosely considered a type of melon, unlike other melons, it’s not in the genus Cucumis. The smooth exterior usually produces a dark green rind with stripes or yellow spots. Watermelons produce a juicy, sweet interior flesh ranging from deep red to pink. However, sometimes it comes in orange, yellow, or white. While melon holds plentiful water, wild melons tasted bland and bitter. This clue suggests that desert dwellers likely cultivated the first melon. The seeds and art found in the tombs of Pharaoh’s supply additional clues to the watermelon’s value. tombs of Pharaohs. Over time, cultivation and breeding brought out the better qualities of the sweet and tender fruit we enjoy today.
With proper growing conditions, watermelons grow to enormous sizes. Around the world, competitions award prizes each year for the largest one. The Guinness Book of World Records states that the heaviest watermelon weighed 262 pounds.
HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL WATERMELON DAY
While you are celebrating the day, spread the joy! Visit a pick-your-own watermelon patch or pick one up from your local farmer’s market. Then, slice it up and invite the neighborhood over to share. Make a fruit salad or cut it into wedges. What are your favorite watermelon memories? Try these other fun ways to celebrate the day, too!

HEALTH NEWS
Aging is a part of life
There are many different ways in which a person may experience the aging process, from skin aging to age-related diseases. Many different vitamins, proteins, and compounds can support the aging process, protecting the body from damage caused by age-related diseases, and more. Be sure to consult healthcare providers before starting any supplement regimen.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C, or “L-ascorbic acid,” is a water-soluble vitamin with antioxidant properties. This means it helps protect the body’s cells from free radical damage. As the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Trusted Source explains, free radicals are unstable molecules that may play a role in certain diseases of aging, such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Some studies have suggested that vitamin C’s antioxidant effects may also influence markers of cellular aging. For example, it may affect the length of structures called telomeres, which sit at and protect the ends of chromosomes.
A 2023 study of more than 7,000 participants found that higher dietary intake of vitamin C links to an increase in telomere length. Specifically, each increase in vitamin C intake correlated with a modest increase in telomere length, suggesting a potential slowing of cellular aging. However, further research is necessary to confirm this effect.
Curcumin
Curcumin belongs to the group of natural compounds curcuminoids, which primarily derive from the underground stems or “rhizomes” of the turmeric plant. Curcumin may interfere with cell-signalling pathways to disrupt certain hallmarks of cellular aging and cancer development.
According to a 2024 review, evidence suggests that curcumin may alter levels of proteins involved in the natural aging process, thereby helping to slow age-related cellular changes.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is the collective term for a group of fat-soluble compounds with antioxidant properties. Some recent studies suggest that vitamin E may be particularly beneficial for reducing the signs of skin aging, especially when used in combination with other antioxidant supplements.
Collagen
Collagen is a protein that provides structural support to various body tissues, including the skin, bones, muscles, and connective tissues. Collagen production declines with age, leading to visible signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles or sagging skin.
Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a type of plant compound called a “polyphenol.“ It is primarily found in red grapes, red wine, and certain berries. According to a 2021 review, resveratrol may be a safe and effective compound for the prevention and treatment of aging and age-related diseases.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fat that the body does not produce naturally. As such, humans must get these fatty acids from dietary sources, such as flaxseeds or fish, or from supplements. Moreover, higher doses of omega-3 link to more significant effects, suggesting a possible causal relationship between omega-3 supplementation and aging support.
