AROUND THE TOWN CLUB

Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore you community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs. Please note: registration fee covers staffing cost only. Additional fees may be required based on chosen activities. Masks will be strongly recommended when at the community center.

*The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Locations thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities.

Monthly Social: French Toast Night

Let's have breakfast for dinner! Join us as we make a sweet French Toast dish with a side of eggs and/or hash browns. Participants will have the option to add fruits and/or whip cream. Afterwards we will play a group game. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

Monthly Social: Bottled Graveyards

Boo! Join us on this spooky night to create your own mini graveyard inside a mason jar. There will also be a featured short film played during craft with popcorn and candy for snacks. Halloween costumes or attire is highly encouraged. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

Monthly Social: Turkey Craft

Gobble Gobble! Join us for a craft night creating a work of art perfect for any Thanksgiving table decoration. We will also build mini snack kabobs out of pretzels, ham and cheese. Grab your golf clubs and your friend. Join us for our H.I.R.L.N. Outing as we be partaking in few arounds of putt putt at Golfland (Blossom Hill location). Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable attire.

HIRLN: Pumpkins in the Park

Pumpkin season is back! Join our H.I.R.L.N. outing as we meet at Emma Prusch Park to decorate the pumpkin of your choosing. Afterwards we can enjoy a walk around the park, look at the animals, and have the option to play a game. Meeting area will be determined closer to event date.

Fun for Tiny Tikes

This engaging class is designed to foster the growth and development of toddlers aged 1.5 to 2.5 years old, while strengthening the bond between the caregiver and child. Led by experienced early childhood educators, this class offers a variety of stimulating activities that encourage exploration, creativity, and social interaction in a supportive and nurturing environment. Give your child the opportunity to socialize with other children their age while participating in age-appropriate activities including arts & crafts, music and movement, and tactile exploration. *Children don't need to be potty trained; however, please remember to bring extra clothing and diapers to class.

SOCIAL SKILLS BASCOM

SIMPLY COOKING

This introductory course for individuals with disabilities. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinners, and desserts. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners.

Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio independently or must provide an attendant for personal care.

Mayfair Group Arts (Sept. - Dec.)

Come join us for some arts and crafts fun! Throughout the program participants will improve fine motor skills, increase social skills, and learn to expand their creativity. Each class will be guided by a City Staff. This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities. Organization's Staff must accompany clients in 1 to 4 ratio.

Let's Paint!

Ready to paint? Unleash your inner artist as you join us to spend the time painting away. Each class day will present a new twist such as using cottons balls, paper rolls, or sponges as your paint brush. This class is open to all skill levels and each participant will receive an apron.

This class may be a mix of standing or seated. This class is geared towards individuals with disabilities but, anyone may join. Participants must be able to participant in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or have caregiver to assist. *Please check online for updated time/dates/day.

Bascom Group Arts

This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities. Join us for seasonal arts and crafts. This program is designed to improve fine motor skills, boost creativity and social skills. Participants will be guided through seasonal art projects and specialty crafts. Organization's staff must accompany clients in a 4 to 1 ratio. This class is not designed for individuals without staff/attendant.

Looking to take Wheelchair basketball to the next level? Join our competition class, this is for individuals looking for more of a challenge and are looking to be apart of the competitive team. Wheelchair Pickleball

New to Bascom, we are now offering wheelchair pickleball. Wheelchair pickleball provides an opportunity for individuals with mobility impairments to enjoy the benefits of physical activity, social interaction, and competitive play. Anyone is welcomed to try regardless if you know how to play or not. We have chairs you can use on a first come first basis.

Power Soccer

Do you use a power wheelchair? Join this advanced class with the San Jose Flash in the electrifying and growing sport of power soccer! Whether you just want to learn the sport or aspire to compete in future tournaments, this is the program for you. Participants will learn power soccer techniques, develop skills, practice drills, and prepare for competition. Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care.

*This class is designed for power wheelchair users.

Scholarships Available!

The City of San José offers activity scholarships for children, seniors, and adults with disabilities who qualify. Scholarships will cover 50-70% of the class cost. Fill out the scholarship form and bring the necessary documents to any City of San José community center. Contact any community center for information.

Adaptive Bowling

It's a strike! Join us for our immensely popular bowling program to polish your game while supportive staff and companions cheer you on. Learn technique and etiquette, socialize with new peers, and have a rolling good time. Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio, and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attended with them.

Adapted Sports

Basketball, Soccer, Bocce ball, Softball, Field Events... Adapted Sports is an inclusive introductory wheelchair sports program designed for individuals with physical disabilities and non-physical disabilities to enjoy a variety of sports at any level. No wheelchair, no problem. We have extra chairs for use during program. This is a place where individuals can learn basic sport skills, team cooperation and rules of competitive play. We also focus on exposure to a variety of wheelchair sports with the potential for competitive skill development. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:5 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or bring an attendant. Pre-registration is highly encouraged, or the program may be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Folklorico Dance (Inclusion)

Dance is more than just moving to music. Each season, participants will learn two dances. As part of the learning process, we will teach about the history of the dance and its area of origin. Develop motor skills, rhythm and balance while having fun! This course is designed for individuals with disabilities and their siblings and friends. Daniel Sanchez has been a staff member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team for over 2.5 years! Along with working in therapeutics, Daniel has also done work with Lake Cunningham Action Sports Park and has just started in our preschool programs Daniel has been a helpful staff throughout the city and we wish him the best of luck as he continues his education to become a future firefighter!

Ugonna has been a staff member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood services team for over 2 years! He has been such a vital part of the Fun for All program along with other Seven Trees Community Center programming. Ugonna also worked previously for the City as well as the District 8 Marketing Intern He has shown his true commitment to the City of San Jose, and has been nothing but helpful to our programs in All Access.

She is passionate about designing programs that inspire healthy living and foster mental wellness through the joy of play

Nessa Diamante has proudly been a part of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services team for nearly five years. For the past year, she has been based at Camden, where she focuses on Therapeutic Service programs and fostering meaningful connections within the community. Nessa is passionate about creating welcoming, safe spaces where everyone can come together and enjoy some fun!
