SOCIAL PROGRAMS CAMDEN

AROUND THE TOWN CLUB

Join us for a night on the town! This social club utilizes community activities which are selected by the group to improve socialization, leisure awareness and independent living skills. Try new things and explore you community with the support and encouragement of friendly, knowledgeable staff.

Members must be able to participate within a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and be independent with their personal care needs. Please note: registration fee covers staffing cost only. Additional fees may be required based on chosen activities. Masks will be strongly recommended when at the community center.

*The first night of program will be held at the Camden Community Center. Locations thereafter varies based on participants chosen activities.

CAMDEN FUN CLUB

Join us for a fun comprehensive activity that covers multiple activities such as board games, karaoke, dancing, arts and crafts, and sensory science fun! Participants must be 16 or older and be accompanied by a caregiver or be able to function independently.

MONTHLY SOCIAL: RAMEN NOODLE NIGHT

Join us for this night where participants can make their own hot bowl of ramen noodles. We will have participants assist with prepping of chicken, eggs, mushrooms, bok choy, green onion, and more. We recommend for participants to bring an apron. This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

MONTHLY SOCIAL: SWEET CREPE NIGHT

Join us for this night where participants can make their own sweet crepes and help with prepping various toppings such as fruits, ice cream, and for a twist participants can add their choice of cereal into the mix! We recommend for participants to bring an apron. This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

MONTHLY SOCIAL: TIE DYE NIGHT

Join us for this night where participants can have their choice of tye dyeing different items to any coloring of their choosing. We will also provide the option of using fabric markers. It is recommend for participants to bring an apron or wear old clothes they don't mind staining.

This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

HIRLN: KARAOKE NIGHT AT ROUND 1

Grab your microphone and sing! H.I.R.L.N. (Head Injury and Recreation Leisure Network) group will be heading out to Eastridge Mall Round 1 for a night of showing off those singing skills. Participants may sing solo, duet, or as a group. We will meet inside Round 1 near the front desk area. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present.

HIRLN: LUNAR NEW YEAR DINNER

H.I.R.L.N. (Head Injury Recreation and Leisure Network) welcomes you to join us to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a traditional Chinese dinner. We will meet at the Mandarin Gourmet Restaurant and together enjoy a lovely feast with new and/or traditional food servings. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant with them. Attendant will need to register for program or pay for own fees if wanting to participate.

HIRLN: Paint Nite!

Join us for a night of painting a beautiful canvas lead by an experienced instructor. There may be limited parking and aprons will be provided at the location. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be able to attend to their own personal care needs or have an attendant present. This program is geared towards adults with disabilities, but anyone can join. Name of location is Campbell Bottle & Bottega.

Let’s Play Games

Join us for a social Board Game group that meets every Tuesday here at Seven Trees Community Center. We will gather around and play games such as connect four, bingo, UNO, and much more! Not into board games? Stick around to chat with friends, discuss your favorite movies, and enjoy some coloring sheets as we socialize all together. Participants must be able to participate in a 1:6 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant.

SOCIAL SKILLS MAYFAIR

TASTY TREAT CORNER

Bring your appetite! For this class participants will learn basic food prepping skills for simplified snack type meals such as sandwiches, salads, rice bowls, and much more. Participants will be instructed to follow recipe and instructor while learning to use some kitchen utensils and measuring devices. This class is open to all skill levels. Participants are encouraged to bring aprons and will be given a personal chefs hat. This class may be a mix of standing or seated. This class is geared towards individuals with disabilities but, anyone may join. Participants must be able to participant in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio and be independent with personal care needs or have caregiver to assist.

SIMPLY COOKING

This introductory course covers basic kitchen safety, basic menu planning, and preparing simple dishes. Menus will include breakfast, lunch, dinners, and desserts. Class includes lecture, observation, and hands on preparation. Participants will receive instructional materials to take home. Class is conducted in a teaching kitchen which utilizes gas burners. Participants must be able to function in a 1:4 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT SEVEN TREES

Fun for All

This program focuses on fun with music, games, arts and crafts, movement activities and more! This play program is designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Children should bring a sack lunch to class each week. Participants must be able to function in a 1 to 3 staff to participant ratio and independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. Attendants will be required to pass a City of San Jose background check in programs that serve youth under 18 years of age.

Sensory Science Fun

This course is specifically designed to empower individuals with disabilities to engage in hands-on sensory-based projects. This unique class combines the excitement of scientific inquiry and fun art projects into one! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff ratio, or have a guardian or caregiver present.

MAYFAIR GROUP ARTS

Come join us at Mayfair Community Center for some arts and crafts fun! Throughout the program participants will improve fine motor skills, increase social skills, and learn to expand their creativity. Each class will be guided by a City Staff. This program is geared towards groups of people with disabilities.

Organization's Staff must accompany clients 1:4 staff to participant ratio. This class is not designed for individuals without staff/attendant.

Welcome back to the alley! It's a strike! Come join us for our immensely popular bowling program, located at Bowlero San Jose (5420 Thornwood Drive). Join us on the lanes on Tuesdays from 4:30 - 6 p.m. Ages 11 and up are welcome. Come polish your game with the support of our therapeutic staff. Learn technique and etiquette, make new friends, and most importantly have fun! Register today, the lanes are going fast. Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL COMPETITIVE

Looking to take Wheelchair basketball to the next level? Join our competition class, this is for individuals looking for more of a challenge and are looking to be apart of the competitive team. No sports chair, no problem; we have extra sports chairs available on a first come first serve basis. Tournament opportunities are available for big gamers. Don't miss out! Participants must be able to function in a 1:10 staff to participant ratio, and independent with personal care needs.

POWER SOCCER

Do you use a power wheelchair? Join one of the three classes with the San Jose teams in the electrifying and growing sport of power soccer! Whether you just want to learn the sport or aspire to compete in future tournaments, this is the program for you. Participants will learn power soccer techniques, develop skills, practice drills, and prepare for competition. Participants must be able to function in a 1:8 staff to participant ratio, independent with personal care needs or provide an attendant for personal care. This class is designed for power wheelchair users.

Pricilla Martinez has been a dedicated member of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services team for six years! Currently based at Bascom, Pricilla has also contributed to the Grace Art & Wellness program and Northside Senior Services for two years. She is passionate about designing programs that inspire healthy living and foster mental wellness through the joy of play.

Nessa Diamante has proudly been a part of the Parks, Recreation, and Neighborhood Services team for nearly five years For the past year, she has been based at Camden, where she focuses on Therapeutic Service programs and fostering meaningful connections within the community. Nessa is passionate about creating welcoming, safe spaces where everyone can come together and enjoy some fun!
