Fare-free access to Trails and Outdoor Adventures

Mason Transit Authority is making it easier to reach some of Mason County’s most popular outdoor areas.

With free fixed-route buses, Dial-A-Ride service, and seasonal trailhead access, MTA gives riders a way to get outside without needing a car.

Trail users can catch a bus or schedule a pickup to places like Lower Lena Lake and nearby Olympic National Forest access points. The service helps reduce congestion at trailheads and makes it easier for people of all ages to enjoy local recreation areas. All rides are fare-free.

MTA has been working to raise awareness of its outdoor access options, including through recent outreach efforts. The goal is to support more equitable access to public lands while also offering a reliable transportation alternative for residents and visitors.

In addition to trail service, MTA connects riders to schools, parks, health services, and shopping areas across the county. As interest in local recreation continues to grow, transit plays a key role in making those experiences more accessible.

Whether it’s a short hike or a full-day outing, Mason Transit helps people get where they’re going—on the trail and beyond.

Mason Transit Authority serves the Mason County community and connects with area transit systems including Grays Harbor Transit, Intercity Transit (Thurston County), Jefferson Transit, Kitsap Transit, Squaxin Island Transit, and Sound Transit, which in turn provides connections to the ferries, Amtrak and Greyhound service. You can go anywhere from here! Mason Transit Authority is a partner in the Health & Safety Commitments Program of The American Public Transportation Association.
