Volunteers & Partners Brighten Inside of Beloved, Downtown Icon

Following last year’s exterior repairs, the Caboose Visitor Information Center has continued to receive thoughtful upgrades—this time focusing on the interior. The project reflects the Chamber’s continued investment in delivering essential visitor information services through a welcoming space in the heart of downtown Shelton.

This spring, the interior received new flooring, generously installed at no cost by local contractor Pete McClurg. In the bathroom, a new cabinet and sink were added, with installation services donated by Jeff of Our Community Credit Union. Volunteers from Peninsula Credit Union worked alongside Chamber staff to repaint the interior, giving the space a cleaner, brighter feel.

Chamber staff also led several functional updates throughout the space, including the installation of new light fixtures, a smart doorbell system to improve accessibility, and additional cameras for security. Meawhile, Builders FirstSource has arranged for a vendor to provide a beautiful, solid wood rear door.

In addition, visitors will now find interpretive signage that shares Shelton’s logging history, and a new iPad kiosk from Explore Hood Canal playing home to the new WildSide App, which offers digital access to itineraries, maps, and local highlights. Printed materials and brochures were reviewed and refreshed to better reflect current offerings and area attractions.

Additional enhancements are planned, but the Caboose Visitor Information Center is open and ready to welcome guests. Stop by Monday through Friday from 8:00a to 5:00p—the caboose is located on Railroad Avenue, in front of the Post Office, directly across from the Chamber office.
