Freedom Mark Merson, President How lucky we are to be part of the Shaare Zedek Congregation and the Montreal Jewish Community. As I look around the world I see the erosion of democracy, the loss of basic civil liberties and the suffering from natural and man-made disasters. The war in Ukraine, the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the shootings and beatings in Canada and the US by both civilians and police, the removal of books from libraries, the eradication of the right of women to choose in several US states, the election of a new government in Israel that threatens democracy and the loss of English language rights, right here in Quebec. At Passover, we as a family, as a congregation and as a community share in rituals and traditions. We relive the Exodus and remember the miracles. We offer prayers for the blessing of freedom. On this Passover 5783 it is more important than ever for us to celebrate our freedom and affirm the right of all individuals to that freedom. Chag Pesach Sameach.
