Dear Members, Guests, and Friends,

As we welcome the vibrant days of May, I want to thank everyone who joined us for our Easter Brunch. I’m so happy to hear how much everyone enjoyed the day, our team shared such wonderful feedback, and we truly appreciate your support.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to invite you to our upcoming Mother’s Day Brunch, a perfect way to celebrate the amazing women in our lives. The menu will feature a prime rib carving station and the chef’s special cranberry and Brie stuffed chicken, along with a beautiful variety of brunch favorites crafted just for mom. We can’t wait to share this special day with you.

We’re also looking forward to a full calendar of activities: Memorial Day Scramble – Be sure to sign up in the pro shop and enjoy a fun, friendly round with fellow members and guests.

Summer Swing Club – Beginning May 1, this program is ideal for summer golfers looking to enjoy the game without a full membership commitment.

Junior Summer Camp – Kicking off in June, this is a great opportunity for kids to learn and grow their golf skills in a supportive, engaging environment.

As we approach the busy summer season, I’d also like to take a moment to recognize our incredible maintenance team. They are hard at work preparing the course and grounds, and your kindness and cooperation go a long way in supporting their efforts. Thank you for helping us keep Rockledge beautiful.

We look forward to seeing you at brunch, on the course, playing pickleball or around the clubhouse in the coming weeks.

All my best,

COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

They say April showers bring May flowers, but what if the showers don’t happen? Yikes! That is the dilemma we are facing as it has been a very dry April. We are restricted on water usage due to the low levels in the city supply. We have the ability to survive, but not to thrive, until the rain arrives. Many of our cultural activities require the use of water after performing them. We have had to hold off on some of our activities due to this. We were able to do a Curfew application to control nematodes in some of our worst fairways and tee areas. The slices made in the fairways will gradually disappear as the product begins to take effect. Those fairways also have received supplemental fertilization as well.

We have begun the process of creating soft path and/or waste areas at many of our tee exits and green entrance areas. These projects will be ongoing throughout the summer months. Our course creates a funneling effect in many areas and our efforts will be aimed at reducing the wear that creates conditions that will not allow turf growth. We feel this, along with the geofencing on the golf carts gives us a better chance of maintaining turfgrass in these areas as the golf schedule expands primarily in the winter months. Very little growth happens in the busy winter season, so if you lose turf, you look at dirt for awhile.

Our spray program has been very successful at eliminating many of the weeds that have plagued us in the past. However, it takes some time to regrow the bermudagrass in these areas to fill the voids. Once we are able to fully recover these areas, the turf should compete very well. As they say, “the best defense against weeds is a strong turf.”

We have a few other projects on the horizon this summer. #13 blue and gold tee will be enlarged and a bulkhead similar to the one on #17 will be installed. Stay tuned for more info as it becomes more fully developed.

Yours
