From the Desk of A. Beyel July 2025

Dear Members & Guests,

July is here, and so is the heat, but that hasn’t slowed anyone down at Rockledge Country Club!

Our Fourth of July Scramble is coming up, and it’s always a favorite. A fun morning on the course followed by a buffet lunch, it’s the perfect way to enjoy summer with good company and a little friendly competition.

We’ve also brought back the July Ladies Golf Clinics, you asked, and we listened! These relaxed, instructional sessions are a great way to build confidence, meet other players, and have some fun while keeping your game sharp.

With temperatures climbing, please remember to stay hydrated, wear your hats and sunscreen, and take breaks in the shade when needed.

Our maintenance crew has been working hard to stay ahead of the heat, and you may see temporary cart path restrictions on certain days to protect the turf. We appreciate your patience as we continue caring for the course through the toughest part of the year.

Thank you for making Rockledge Country Club more than just a golf course, it’s the pe l th t ke this place feel like home.

All my best,

COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Wow, July already, and still not much rain. I know the dry season doesn’t last forever, but it is beginning to feel like it. The water table is very low right now, as evidenced by the lack of water in our ponds. As I said before though, be careful what you wish for, as it can be just as extreme on the wet side.

We are just beginning our cart path extension/modification process. We have marked the areas and sprayed to eliminate grass. Soon we will sod cut the perimeters and spread lime rock screenings to create the new areas. These are designed to help us spread the wear of cart traffic.

A fertilization of the course will be happening soon, most likely before you read this. We would love to have this happen along with a little of mother nature’s water.

Some of the tee boxes we have been struggling with are beginning to show signs of life. We have treated them all with a nematicide and have fertilized as well. The small size and increased activity many of our more forward tees are getting creates an excessive wear issue that will take some time to grow out of. In addition, the competition from the winter rye grass overseeding takes a toll on the base Bermuda grass.

Finally, I would like to thank the crew for all the hard work in the hot sun they have done and will be doing for the rest of the summer. These guys are mostly behind the scenes and don’t get a lot of recognition for what they do.

Yours in Turf, Jerry Yeomans

GOLF PRO UPDATE

While we certainly could have used some more rain in June, we were pleased to see golfers taking advantage of the dry weather and getting out on the course. Rounds of golf in June seen a dramatic increase over last year and our leagues, shootouts, and weekly events all are enjoying very strong participation numbers. We are looking forward to our annual July 4th scramble that is upcoming, this event will be a 2player scramble and feature both Men’s and Mixed Divisions, along with some great prizes and a cookout following play.

Our PGA Junior league team is set for the regional AllStar Competition coming up on Monday July 21st at St. Johns Golf Club in St. Augustine. You will see the juniors around practicing for the competition, wish them luck if you see them! Our Junior Summer Camps are in full swing with one being recently completed in June and another coming up the 2nd week in July.

On the lesson tee, Myself, Dalton, and Staci have all been keeping busy with private lessons and clinics. We are gearing up for our Ladies Learn to Golf Clinics, these clinics average 50-60 ladies and will be on Wednesday nights in July. Ladies of all skill levels are welcome, and we are still taking signups, please see the golf shop if you are interested. We will soon be announcing our fall instructional programs which will include another session of Ladies Operation 36 and a junior program as well.

If you are in the market for any new equipment, we have nearly all the major vendors visiting over the next month for fitting days. Callaway just finished up a sold-out fitting day and the month of July will feature Srixon, Titleist, and a Ladies only Cleveland Wedge fitting and instructional event. To get signed up or for any fitting or for questions please see a golf shop staff Member.

In the golf shop, we recently received a new line of Footjoy shirts, many of these are going to be a special buy from the vendor and will go very quickly, be sure to stop in and check them out before they are gone. In July we also will be receiving a new hat line from Pukka Headwear with some brand-new logo designs. We also will be receiving some exciting new accessories including cooling towels, koozies, and much more.

Thanks for your continued support of the golf shop operations,

Summer Summer
