From the Desk of A. Beyel

Dear Members, Guests, and Friends,

As we dive into the heart of summer, I’m excited to share the latest from Rockledge Country Club. With rising temperatures, please remember to stay hydrated while enjoying everything the club has to offer.

Our summer maintenance projects are moving along smoothly. Fairway improvements, turf care, and other upgrades are taking shape thanks to the dedication of our hardworking grounds crew. They’ve been out in the heat every day, and we’re grateful for their commitment to keeping the course in top shape. Your cooperation with cart signage and traffic guidance continues to make a difference, thank you.

We’re also thrilled to have our Junior Golf Clinics back. It’s always a highlight to see young golfers out on the course, learning the game in a fun and supportive environment. If you have children or grandchildren who want to give it a try, now’s the perfect time.

With Father’s Day approaching, be sure to stop by the Pro Shop and check out our selection of gift ideas. Whether it's new gear, stylish apparel, or something unique for the golf loving dad in your life, we’ve got you covered.

June 2025

Nov. 2024

To our incredibly dedicated pickleball community, your passion never goes unnoticed. Even in the summer heat, you show up, play hard, and keep energy high. Please continue to take care of yourselves out there: drink plenty of water, wear light gear, and take breaks as needed.

We’re also deeply thankful to the brides who have embraced our beautifully updated clubhouse and outdoor ceremony space. It’s an honor to be part of your big day, and we’re proud to help create memories that will last a lifetime here at The Rock.

Looking ahead, don’t miss our July 4th Scramble. This annual event is a fun and festive way to celebrate Independence Day with family, friends, and fellow members. Sign-ups are open now in the Pro Shop.

Thank you for letting Rockledge Country Club be your home course. Your continued support and enthusiasm help make this such a special place. Stay cool, and we’ll see you around the club!

All my best,

Rockledge Country

COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE

Drought conditions have had a grip on us for several months now. It seems like it rains all around us but not on us. However, I have also been if Florida long enough to know you must be careful what you ask for. Let’s not pray too hard for rain because those prayers tend to get answered all at once it seems!

What have you done for me lately?

Well, I’m glad you asked. (1) Curfew was applied to many of our fairways that struggled through the winter season due to various factors. Nematodes is one of those factors and the Curfew product has done a nice job in kick starting those fairways at the beginning of the growing season. We also have treated all the tee boxes for nematodes as well. Eliminating the nematode population for a while allows the turf a chance to grow roots and compete with the “todes”. (2) We have aerified all the fairways, tee boxes and traffic areas. This allows for oxygen, nutrients and water to become more readily available to the plant roots. It also aids in allowing unwanted trapped gases to escape the soil. (3) Many cart traffic control measures have been taken to help in turf recovery and maintenance. Signs, posts and ropes have been placed to protect our turf areas. They are not there to aggravate golfers. I think we all want nice conditions, and you play a part in that by adhering to the directional signage and cart rules in general.

What are you going to do next?

Once again, I’m glad you asked! We have a lot of plans for the remainder of the summer, but I will only touch on the ones coming up soon (I need something for future newsletters). (1) Greens aerification (everybody clap, lol) will be done on June 2nd. It might have already happened by the time you read this. Small tines will be used as in the past.

This is due to the fact that the Zoysia we have on the greens does not heal as rapidly as Bermudagrass does. Therefore, we do 3 small aerifications in the summer instead of only 2.

(2) A complete spraying of the course for weeds, pre and post emergent, will begin on June 2nd as well. (3) Cart exit and entrance sites will be developed on many of our holes where cart traffic pressure is the heaviest. We are very narrow in many areas and carts are “funneled” in these areas. This creates a lot of compaction and that makes grass growth difficult. The idea is to create as many entrance and exit points as possible and then continuously rotate those areas to distribute the traffic wear pressure. (4) We are rebuilding the tee boxes on hole 13. Sod from these areas is being stripped and utilized in many other areas of the course. (5) Finally, stumps that have accumulated from tree removals due to dead, dying or other reasons, will begin to be removed on June 2nd as well.

As you can see, we have a very busy summer lined up. In addition to all the previously mentioned items, we still have the daily maintenance routines of mowing, cutting new hole positions, raking bunkers, etc. That’s not a complaint, just a fact. Please be patient and understand that everything we do is to maintain and improve the quality of your course. Please don’t hesitate to thank a crew member for their hard work. That goes a long way on a hot day.

Yours in Turf, Jerry Yeomans

The team dominated the last part of the season, and we will be advancing 5 of our players to the All Star Team this summer around the state of Florida. Junior Golf will continue through the summer with our upcoming weeklong summer camps that will be instructed by our Golf Professional Staff.

Thanks to all of those that played in our Memorial Day Scramble this year. Congrats to the winning Teams of Bill and Michelle Bennett in the Mixed Division, and Cody Bell & Ryan Holloway in the Men’s Division. It was a great day for golf, and everyone had a wonderful time. Our next upcoming holiday event will be a July 4th Scramble, be on the lookout for signup information on that event coming soon.

In the golf shop we will have a few new product lines coming in soon. We will have a Mid-June delivery of a new Men’s Footjoy line of golf shirts that have a great look to them. We will also have a new headwear line coming in from Pukka, which is a new brand in the golf shop and will feature many new Logo and THE ROCK options to choose from.

Thanks to everyone who came to the sold-out fitting day from TaylorMade, also coming in the next several weeks will be Callaway, Titleist, and Srixon. We will post information and signup information on those dates once they are solidified.

On the instruction tee, all of our teaching professionals have been keeping very busy and have some exciting programs coming this summer and fall. Our popular Wednesday night ladies’ clinics will kick off in July and feature a clinic every Wednesday evening in July, 5 total monthly sessions. We will also have another season of PGA Junior League this fall, along with another Operation 36 program specifically for the Ladies.
