Sometimes in improvised music there can be a distance between listener and players, a sense you’re sitting back and admiring their interplay and abstration – but with Szun Waves’ second album, you’re right in there with them, inside the playing, experiencing the absolute joy the three musicians feel as they circle around each other, exploring the spaces they’ve opened up.

The three members already have sparkling pedigrees of their own. Norfolk’s Luke Abbott is well known for his explorations of the zones between pure ambience and the leftmost fringes of club culture. With Portico Quartet and Circle Traps, Jack Wyllie has been in the vanguard of UK fusions of jazz, classical and club music. Australian drummer Laurence Pike has likewise found a unique voice in improvised and experimental music-making, whether in the bands Triosk or PVT, or as a solo artist.

The trio’s musical relationship has grown naturally and steadily, and it shows. From Wyllie adding shimmering sustained sax notes to Abbott’s gorgeous ambient pieces in 2013, Szun Waves emerged when Pike was added to the mix, energising the sound but still keeping its levitational qualities. Their 2016 self-released debut album hit a natural groove, and now they’re in a place of pure spontaneity: New Hymn To Freedom is a document of six entirely live improvisations – “no edits or overdubs” – and its title couldn’t be more apt.

Their fourth album evokes the atmospheric sounds they are known for and continues the band's journey with an album full of tension and brooding all the while wrapped in a reverb laden dream. Written in the hill country in Austin, Texas, Slow Air nods towards a classic sound with emphasis on the guitar, both acoustic and electric, combined with the alluring and ghostly voice of Tessa Murray. The songs are rounded out with live drums and minimal synthesisers with all the mistakes kept in for maximum human feel and emotion. The album title is derived from the sultry heat in Texas which causes everything and everyone to slow down. While writing the album Still Corners found inspiration in the change of leaving England for the States and travelling around the massive expanse of North America from the deserts of Texas and Arizona to the beaches of California and mountainous regions of the north east New York. Recorded in a new studio designed by Greg Hughes in Austin, TX, Still Corners focused on a recording process that was as fluid and minimal as possible.

Using a variety of microphones both old and new the band recorded and mixed this new set of songs in three months. Keeping everything fresh and not over-thinking moved the album to the finish line faster than any album Still Corners had written and recorded before. Joe Laporta put the finishing touches on at Sterling Sound in NYC. Black Lagoon, the lead single/video from Slow Air has the band on a journey from the desert to the ocean in search of a lost paradise.

project takes in a series of iconic National Trust locations across England as its inspiration, turning them into unlikely recording spaces. Michael and a host of

travelled across the country in pursuit of places far removed from the traditional and the future.

The diversity of Michael Price’s choices ranges from the ruins of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire to the Fan Bay WWII shelter, cut deep into the chalk cliffs of Dover.

All owned by the National Trust save one, each venue became both the inspiration and the recording studio for Michael Price and his accompaniment of renowned musical ensembles, choirs and soloists.

"For Tender Symmetry, I stopped admiring and started participating in these buildings. This began as an exploration of writing and recording out in the world beyond the studio. I am interested in where we build our homes in an increasingly virtual world and the spirit of place we feel as we walk our local streets, our schools, temples and public spaces. Taking inspiration from a place, and the stories it told, then going back to that place to record, sometimes in less than ideal conditions, made the two-year adventure much more like shooting a film than making a record.” — Michael Price Acoustics varied wildly as the artists moved from places designed with sound in mind to locations which demanded the use of miners’ helmets for light and battery-powered sound gear. Soprano Grace Davidson sings Blake’s poignant words about nature, religion and the industrial revolution on several of the pieces including the astoundingly beautiful album closer Shade Of Dreams, written after the birth of Michael’s daughter. “The final piece, Shade of Dreams, is part of a group of pieces I wrote for the birth of our daughter, Emilie. It, like all the works on the album, takes its text from William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience, in this case, A Cradle Song. As much as Tender Symmetry is about the past, it is firmly about the future, and all our of shared futures.”

Planet Mu are excited to announce Ital Tek's ‘Bodied’, the follow up to his acclaimed 2016 album 'Hollowed'.

Stepping in a different direction from that album, It’s as if Hollowed's detailed world has been fleshed out and filled with the spectre of human voices.

As on his last album, the sounds on 'Bodied' are highly designed, but this time barely a whisper of dance music remains. Instead it's built around acoustic elements and ghostly choral arrangements, refracted and transformed into atmospheric, alien forms which are given the time to settle and transform. Rhythm is used only as a tool to give his world a sense of dark, mechanical momentum.

Alan explains; "After completing 'Hollowed' I had over a year away from writing any of my own material. I was working, composing music for a video game and a number of different projects. I needed to find a way back in and I rediscovered the joy of music being a release as opposed to a job.

I was getting up really early and sketching out lots of ideas very fast, squeezing in quick bursts of writing at the beginning or end of long studio day spent working on other musical projects."

"It was important for me to define the world that the album was going to inhabit before taking it any further, so I put a much greater focus into the sound design and palette than I had before. I wanted to make the music sound very physical, geometric, and monolithic, as if it inhabited a physical space."

"On 'Bodied' the music focuses on the interplay between the minuscule and the vast, beauty and brutalism. With this album I was much more concerned with dynamics and the discipline of holding tension; the use of space and silence to provide a counterpoint to the intensity."

"Most importantly, I was keen for there to be a human acoustic foundation, so I did a lot of live recording of cello, violin, harp and guitar - anything I could get my hands on. I was certain that I wanted there to be a greater vocal presence - nothing lyrical or at the forefront but to give it an underlying organic quality - to impart some humanity into the music."

As Ital Tek moves further from his roots, he's creating new sounds and spaces in which his music can exist. It's up to the listener to decide what kind of world 'Bodied' evokes, but it's certainly one that's beautiful and rewarding to spend time in.

From the lilting “In My Time” and gentle “Light As A Fire” to the gritty “Miles and Miles” and sentimental “If Time Is Not Enough,” change and continuation are frequent themes on the album, but each track boils down in its own way to an act of growth and healing. Album opener “The Bridge” says it all, with the whole band joining in ecstatic three-part harmony to sing, “Meet me on the bridge / We can watch the water / Meet me on the bridge / Water running under.” Like so much of the album, it’s a cry for empathy and compromise that works on a variety of levels: personal, professional, political. The band takes an unflinching look in the mirror with this record, but it’s not hard to zoom out and hear the parallels here with a divided nation similarly navigating its way through a metaphorical maelstrom.

Flowers in the Spring Yes, they do have their first-ever string section here, and that could confuse some people. (“People go, ‘Wow, it sounds more mature.’” says Fitzsimons.

“What kind of boring shit is that?”) But Flowers isn’t a grown-up album or a show-off album or a break-up album or a just-had-to-make-another-album album because the Molochs don’t pick targets that tiny. Love and disgrace and life and death blur and bleed into each other, but at the core of Flowers is a story about standing against the inhuman by being more human, however messily honest that needs to be. (Or like Fitzsimons sings at the end of the record: beware that “determination by a whole / to destroy the human soul.”

Funny how that comes in a song where he claims he can’t explain everything that happens to him, because he sort of just did.) So consider their new Flowers In The Spring a meticulously plotted counterattack against all things Moloch-ian, with clear, concise, immediate, undeniable, simple, direct pop songs, says Fitzsimons, each sharpened enough to cut through anything it touched. That’s what he needed to do, he says, because that’s what felt most true. Maybe it really was that simple, even if it wasn’t easy. Like he’d explain in a song with just seven words: “There’s something I wanna say to you.”

First, let’s meet back up with the Molochs—you remember them, right? Their America’s Velvet Glory was the earliest burst of light and energy to hit in 2017, an album of electrified rock ‘n’ roll like Dylan and Lou Reed by a band named after the Ginsberg-ian glutton god who demanded the sacrifice of all things good and pure. But now it’s 2018 and Moloch himself is fatter and happier than ever, so the Molochs couldn’t just make another record. After Glory showed the world who they were, they needed to make an album that showed what they could do. So Flowers In The Spring is where the Molochs worked harder, thought harder and fought harder to be the kind of band that the times demand: “I like to think the world just needs some good solid songs out there,” founder Lucas Fitzsimons says. “It’s simple. It’s not easy … but it’s simple.”

America’s Velvet Glory, their first-ever record for L.A.’s Innovative Leisure label, had sparked their first-ever U.S and European tours, first-ever festival sets, first-ever international press and more. (Top music mag Mojo even said they’d made one of the year’s best albums—“Any year!”) Follow-up Flowers bloomed almost exactly a year later at Long Beach’s Jazzcats studio between December of 2017 and January of 2018, where Fitzsimons and longtime band member Ryan Foster had recorded Glory. By the time they’d returned, they had a slate of songs that had come to Fitzsimons in flash moments, written on nerve-wracking transcontinental flights or on isolated nights in an L.A. apartment, captured at once in bursts of insight or rescued from almost-abandonment in discarded notebooks.

As on Glory, inspiration from Syd Barrett, Dylan, Nikki Sudden and kindred spirit Peter Perrett of the Only Ones was at work, but the Molochs are endlessly (appropriately?) ravenous when it comes to things to read and listen to and learn from. On Flowers they’d refine and recombine their sound, working in that long tradition of poets who cover (or discover) themselves in pop songs. “To Kick In A Lover’s Door” blows Flowers open with the wit and precision of the Go-Betweens, and “I Wanna Say To You” draws more from some of Creation Records’ dreamiest dreamers than it does from any esoteric 60s howlers. “Flowers In The Spring” and “Pages Of Your Journal” could be two lost Kinks singles from two different Kinks eras—that Ray Davies-ian venom stays the same, of course—and the charming/disarming “Too Lost In Love” makes feeling down sound like cheering up, just like the Clean did.

Tuomo & Markus is a new musical project from acclaimed Finnish soul artist Tuomo Prättälä and singer/songwriter Markus Nordenstreng (The Latebirds).

The two gentlemen gathered spontaneously at Wavelab Studio in Tucson AZ to record new music with their friends who included John Stirratt (Wilco, Autumn Defense), John Convertino, Joey Burns and Jakob Valenzuela from Calexico, Pat Sansone (Wilco, Autumn Defense), and Gary Louris (The Jayhawks) who also contributed one song.

The duo’s debut album ‘Dead Circles’ also features Finnish band members Juho Viljanen, Miikka ‘McGyver’ Paatelainen and Jere Ijäs. With the recent addition of Finnish jazz trumpet sensation Verneri Pohjola to the live lineup Tuomo & Markus’ jazz and psychedelic influences have become more and more evident at their ambitious live shows.

While their craftsmanship and timeless songs are rooted in the great American songbook and some of the haunting harmonies may be reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel or Crosby, Stills & Nash, Tuomo & Markus are no retro act. Unusual arrangements and fearless use of both vintage and modern technology brings their sound to the 21st Century.

Overview: Universal Eyes started as Universal Indians in Lansing Michigan, in the early shadows of the 90's, with Gretchen Gonzales (now Gonzales Davidson), Bryan "Rammer" Ramirez, & Johnny "Inzane" Olson. The trio started as a Jesse Harper cover band and managed to play every single basement that had a power outlet in the Tri county area. After moving to the Detroit area in the late 90's, Rammer was replaced by Aaron Dilloway and also joined by Nathan Young / a duo that were already in the throes of primitive electronic global domination that is WOLF EYES. The collective quartet played every basement, art space, record store, and club in the metro area that had a power outlet and could also handle the Michigan Progressive Underground audio sprawl. Around the dawn of the 2000's / Gretchen went full time with the moody & cold stylings of SLUMBER PARTY and after a wild Bowling Green Ohio gig, Olson joined WOLF EYES full time. After some drama that would make even Fleetwood Mac disappear into the shadows of suburbia and toss their EQ into a lonely fire, UNIVERSAL INDIANS appeared to have fate / faded into the packed history book pages of Michigan musical lore.

As age and time seem to dust over wounds while magically healing them, the quartet met again in the northern suburbs of metro Detroit on a brisk spring Sunday in 2018. They hauled modern and ancient instruments into a home studio and just like that: the dream / nightmare had hot blood pumping thru its' duct-taped sound body once again, as if the missing years were nothing but a minute hurdle.

“Four Variations On 'Artificial Society'" is the nearly exact document of this unholy reunion captured in full detail by Warren Defever (HIS NAME IS ALIVE). The two record set will be on coke bottle clear and white vinyl presented by Trip Metal Limited label in partnership with Lower Floor, with record speeds to be determined by the listener. Redinho​ returns with two heavyweight singles ​‘Square 1 ft.

Kimbra’​ and ​‘Mmm Mmm ft. Vula’. ​After a solo album on Numbers, working as Hudson Mohawke’s musical director on the ​Lantern​ tour, and producing for the transatlantic rap group Swet Shop Boys with Riz Ahmed and Heems, Redinho is now focusing back on his solo output and these new singles feature his signature sugar-rush r&b meets pop and electronic sound.

‘Mmm Mmm’ ​was originally released digitally earlier this year, crowned “World’s Hottest Record” by Annie Mac and features Vula​ of Basement Jaxx Fame. ‘​Square 1’ ​is the AA side single that features a Timbaland-esque beat with hypnotising sultry vocals from Grammy Award winning artist ​Kimbra​, known for her feature on the Gotye single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. In Redinho’s own words on both singles: Mmm Mmm: This track was written by Nao and me. The original demo wound up on a HudMo mix in 2015 just as I was starting work as his musical director for the Lantern live show. After that I got busy with producing Swet Shop Boys, but managed to get one of my absolute favourite singers Vula to do her thing on this track because she killed it so hard when we used to play it live. So I'm really happy this jam is finally getting released. I've lived with it for a while now but I'm stoked that when people hear it for the first time they're like, oof.

Square One I wrote this track with Kimbra a few years ago when we were jamming in London. Those sessions produced Sweet Relief, a track I also wrote and produced with her, and also Square One. The initial loop was the result of jamming with my Talkbox, Kimbra messing with her Voice Live skills, and me sampling the whole thing as we went a long. My brother John Calvert was also in the room and fleshed out some chords. Kimbra put down a brilliant guide vocal, then we did some back and forths online as she wrote the lyrics. Absolutely stoked to be finally releasing this track. Despite both of these tunes being written years ago, I'm proud that they still feel relevant and worth hearing.
