My Senior Center
All visitors, and volunteers, entering the building will be required to use our automated check-in system. The system is designed specifically for senior centers and is key tag-based, meaning, after enrolling, visitors can simply swipe their key tag across a digital scanner to check-in. MySeniorCenter software registration is required for enrolling in activities, tours, and purchasing tickets. Staff members are available, at the front desk, to help seniors operate the new check-in system.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES PROGRAM (SSP)
The Supportive Services Program is available to Norwalk residents, aged 60 years and older. The goal of the program is to help preserve and maintain the quality of life for older adults to remain independent at home. This is done by providing an in-home assessment by qualified social services staff to evaluate functional limitations. Qualifying older adults may receive Case Management, Homemaking, Personal Care and/or Respite services. These services are free of cost and funded by Los Angeles County Aging & Disabilities Department. CASE MANAGEMENT
This service assists in the form of assessing needs, developing a care plan, coordinating services and providing follow-up and reassessment as required.
HOMEMAKING
This service assists temporary disabled older adults with instrumental activities of daily living for the purpose of household support. Such assistance includes but is not limited to light housework, laundry and meal preparation.
PERSONAL CARE
This service assists temporary disabled older adults with activities of daily living. Such assistance includes but is not limited to bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding and toileting.
RESPITE
This service provides temporary relief to family caregivers of frail older adults by providing companion care in the home while the caregiver is temporarily absent.
REGISTRY
The Norwalk Senior Center maintains a registry of qualified self-employed in-home workers who are prescreened, CPR/First Aid Certified and are available for hire. Clients willing to utilize personal resources to hire and pay an in-home worker may be matched with a self-employed in-home worker from the registry.

HOME DELIVERED MEALS
Home-delivered meals are available to qualifying, homebound Norwalk seniors aged 60 and older. At this time, we are accepting waitlist applications only. For more information or to be added to the waitlist, please call the Norwalk Senior Center.
DIAL-A-RIDE
Norwalk’s Transit Department offers a Dial-A-Ride service available to Norwalk residents aged 60 and older and to physically disabled residents, regardless of age. Applications may be requested by calling (562) 929-5550. Applications are also available at the Norwalk Senior Center and the Social Services Center.
CALFRESH ASSISTANCE

Do you have questions about CalFresh? A CalFresh outreach worker from the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank will be available to provide program information and assistance with application completion.
PEER SUPPORT GROUP – HOPE AND WELL-BEING

VETERAN SERVICE OFFICER (VSO)
WEEKLY MEETING WITH VETERANS
Every Wed, 8:15am – 3pm, Norwalk Senior Center
A Veteran Service Officer (VSO), from the Los Angeles County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (MVA) is available to meet with our Veterans on a weekly basis. Every Wednesday, Veterans can make an appointment to meet one-on-one with a Veteran Service Officer. The VSO’s one-on-one meetings allow veterans the ability to get individualized assistance with their VA benefits. We look forward to continue providing services to our Veterans.
GRIEF AND LOSS SUPPORT GROUP
Every Fri, 10 – 11am, Norwalk Senior Center No meetings on 7/4, 8/22, 9/12, and 9/19.
The Grief and Loss Support Group is a group that offers support to participants who have gone through a loss of a spouse, family member or any other loss they want to share in a safe and supportive environment. The group is led by a trained mental health professional from Telecare Corporation in Norwalk.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING

On Wed, July 2, Alignment Healthcare will be on site to perform blood pressure screening to adults 50 years and older. Blood pressure is one of the most important screenings because high blood pressure usually has no symptoms so it cannot be detected without being measured. High blood pressure greatly increases your risk of heart disease and stroke.
MANAGING YOUR MEDICATION (KOREAN LANGUAGE)

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health will be hosting a presentation on medication management. Participants will learn about the importance of sticking to your medication regimen and other useful information on the proper use of medication. STRESS MANAGEMENT SERIES: TUNING INTO YOUR BODY

The City of Norwalk Public Safety Department will be hosting a presentation on heat awareness. Extreme heat is deadly and kills more people than any other weather conditions. Global climate change is making extreme heat episodes more frequent, more severe, and longer lasting. But we can take action and prepare. You will learn how to prepare to protect yourself and your loved ones.
