NORWALK

Greetings Norwalk Community,
As Director of the Recreation and Park Services Department, I am excited to welcome you to an incredible summer season full of new experiences, community connection, and outdoor fun. The department has been working hard to enhance our programs and facilities, and I’m proud to share some of the highlights you can look forward to. On June 1, lace up your running shoes and join us for the 2nd Annual Norwalk 5K Run! This fun, family-friendly event is a great way to stay active, connect with neighbors, and enjoy a fun course through our city streets.
We are excited to announce the completion of the new LED baseball lighting system in all three fields at Zimmerman Park. These upgrades provide a brighter space for evening games, practices, and family outings, while enhancing safety and making the park more accessible.
Looking ahead, mark your calendar for July 3, when we will celebrate our Independence Day Festival at a brand-new location: Holifield Park!
Our Summer Concert series kicks off on July 9 with a new location at Norwalk Park. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes.
Stay tuned as we hold Community Meetings this summer on how to re-envision Norwalk Park. These meetings are essential as we pursue grant funding to improve and enhance Norwalk Park.
Finally, July is National Parks and Recreation Month, and we’re planning special events and activities throughout the city to celebrate the value of parks and recreation in building healthy, vibrant communities.
Thank you for being an integral part of our community. Whether you join a program, attend an event, or enjoy the outdoors, your support and participation make our parks come alive. We’re looking forward to seeing you in our parks this summer!
Sincerely,
Allan Perdomo Director, Recreation and Park Services

Register for Adaptive Programs at the NASC or online at Norwalk.org/classes
This program is designed for teens, and adults with developmental, physical, and/or learning disabilities. Participants are encouraged to maximize their abilities through recreation activities with a social emphasis. All participants must have a current medical/emergency form on file with the department in order to participate. Ratio is five participants per one Recreation staff. Please Note: Although group homes are encouraged to participate, an attendant or program aide must remain to assist as needed. Activities are held at Gerdes Park, 14700 Gridley Road, unless otherwise noted.
If a participant wishes to register but requires a one-on-one aide, all aides must complete a livescan process and be cleared through the City of Norwalk prior to registration.
Before registering for any off-site activity, all participants must attend three on-site activities. This policy is designed to help our staff get to know each participant’s behavioral and physical needs, ensuring that we can provide the necessary support during off-site events. This approach not only prioritizes the safety and well-being of all members, but also enhances the overall experience for everyone involved.
