Angela Arora, a talented student-athlete, has proven time and again that determination, discipline, and passion are key ingredients for success—on and off the golf course. As a member of the Canadian National Team from 2019 to 2024, Angela’s journey in the world of golf has been marked by impressive victories and the kind of resilience that inspires young girls ever ywhere to chase their dreams in spor ts.
Angela’s relationship with golf began long before she took her first competitive swing. Growing up in Canada with a family that valued athleticism, her love for spor ts was nur tured from a young age. “I remember spending weekends at the golf course with my dad," Angela says, recalling the early days that would shape her future. Her father, who had always admired athletics, introduced Angela to golf. Yet, it wasn’t until she attended the 2015 CP Women's Open in Vancouver that Angela’s desire to pursue golf seriously was ignited. Watching her idol, Lexi Thompson, compete at the top of the spor t made Angela realize that golf was more than just a pastime—it was a path she wanted to pursue professionally

From that moment on, Angela has car ved out a remarkable career full of notable achievements. Her talent and hard work quickly earned her a spot on the Canadian National Team, where she competed fiercely and represented her countr y on the international stage from 2019 to 2024.
Angela’s list of accomplishments speaks volumes about her commitment to excellence. She won the 2017 BC Bantam Championship, then went on to capture the 2019 Future Links Ontario Championship
The following year, she achieved a rare feat by winning both the 2020 BC Junior and BC Juvenile Championships, completing a BC Triple Crown title—cementing her status as a rising star in Canadian golf
In 2021, Angela earned even more recognition, claiming the Glencoe Invitational title and finishing in a T3 spot at the Canadian Women's Amateur Championship, one of the most prestigious events in the countr y. Her determination and consistency were on full display once again in 2022, when she won the Next Gen Pacific Championship. Most recently, in 2023, Angela triumphed at the Clover Cup (NCAA), marking her first collegiate tournament win—a career milestone she will never forget, par ticularly because her father was there to see it.

The balance of college and competition
As a student-athlete, Angela’s life revolves around a delicate balance of academics, athletics, and personal growth. While pursuing a degree in business management at the University of Arizona, she trains with her team and competes in NCAA events, all while maintaining a high level of per formance. "Ever y week is a challenge," Angela admits. "I manage my time carefully, ensuring I stay on top of my coursework and get in my practice sessions. It’s all about time management and staying disciplined.”
Her typical day star ts with classes in the morning, followed by training in the afternoon, and on select days, early morning workouts. Angela is a firm believer in structuring her time well to succeed in both her studies and on the course. "I have a planner where I organize my week—focusing on school, golf, and taking care of myself. I can’t do one without the other," she shares.
Recovery, nutrition, and mental strength
For an elite athlete like Angela, physical and mental recover y is crucial to staying at the top of her game. "Golf is a mental spor t, and sometimes the pressure can be over whelming, but I’ve learned how to manage it," she reflects. Angela has developed a routine to stay mentally strong, relying on a mantra she repeats to herself during stressful moments: "All is well." It helps calm her ner ves, especially during the final holes of a tight competition.
On the physical side, recover y is just as impor tant. "If you don’t recover well, you won’t per form well," Angela says. She uses a Whoop strap, a wearable device that helps her monitor her sleep and recover y metrics, ensuring that she’s prepared for each new challenge. Her nutrition is also key to her success. "During long practice days, I keep snacks like R X Bars and Chobani yogur t drinks on hand for quick energy and protein," Angela explains. These small but effective choices fuel her body and keep her per forming at her best.
Inspiring the next generation
One of Angela’s most impor tant goals is to inspire the next generation of young girls to embrace spor ts and pursue their passions. "I was inspired by Lexi Thompson, and I want to do the same for others," Angela says. She understands the power of representation in spor ts and is passionate about being a role model for young women ever ywhere
Golf has given Angela more than just championships; it has instilled discipline, focus, and life skills she applies beyond the course. "Golf has taught me the impor tance of patience, time management, and mental resilience," she says. These lessons, she believes, are invaluable both in spor ts and in life

Toor’s life is a testament to resilience, dedication, and the unwavering strength of family.
orn in Village Shankar, Tehsil Jaronwala, District Lyallpur (now part of Pakistan) in undivided India, his early years were shaped by humble beginnings and profound loss. The passing of his father, Bela Singh, when he was just eight years old, left him to grow up with the support of his mother and seven siblings. Despite the hardship, Sohan Singh was determined to continue his education. Attending the local government primary school, he then embarked on the difficult 5 km daily walk to reach middle school, a journey that took him 1.5 hours each way.
The division of India in 1947 brought unimaginable hardship. Forced to flee their home without possessions, Sohan Singh and his family faced the uncertainty of separation during the chaos of the partition. Only three of them managed to board a passing military truck, leaving the rest behind in a moment of great distress. Against all odds, Sohan Singh was reunited with his family in Village Dhaliwal, District Jalandhar, where they found refuge. Though the country was engulfed in violence, Sohan Singh’s family remained safe and reconnected after several days.
In 1948, Sohan Singh began his career with the Indian Railways as a shed cleaner. His dedication and hard work led to his promotion to Fireman Shunter and later to Class “A” Driver. His success didn’t stop there; he was entrusted with the responsibility of training assistant drivers, managing two major loco train sheds in Jalandhar and Ferozepur. With over 35 years of service, he retired in 1983, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and expertise.
On the personal front, Sohan Singh’s life was equally fulfilling. In 1950, he married Sardarni Surjit Kaur, whose support and partnership enriched his life. Together, they raised two sons, Dalvinder Singh Toor and Gurdev Singh Toor, both of whom went on to have distinguished careers in medicine. Dr. Dalvinder Singh Toor, an MBBS, MS, and MD, currently serves as an assistant professor at UBC Vancouver, while Dr. Gurdev Singh Toor, an MBBS graduate with a specialization in Orthopedics, practices in Calgary. Both are highly respected in their respective fields and are revered within the community. Their success is a testament to the values Sohan Singh instilled in them—values of hard work, perseverance, and education.
Both sons married doctors, and the family has been blessed with four grandchildren, three of whom have followed in their parents’ footsteps and are now doctors themselves. In 2001, the family’s journey took an
international turn when their eldest son and his family immigrated to Canada. In 2004, Sohan Singh and his wife joined them, embracing the opportunities and security Canada had to offer.
Living in Canada has provided Sohan Singh with a new chapter in life. He enjoys the privileges of clean water and the warmth of living with four generations of his family. Sohan Singh has remained active and healthconscious, walking 9 km every day and enjoying nutritious, home-cooked vegetarian meals. His deep faith remains an integral part of his daily routine, where he prays before sunrise. He volunteered at the local temple and Sexsmith Elementary school, where his great grand children study.
Throughout his life, Sohan Singh has instilled the importance of education, hard work, and moral values in his family. He always believed that investing in the well-being of the next generation is crucial. Drawing from his own life experience, he often shares this valuable message with the young generation: “It is important to take care of your body, eat healthy, and stay active. As per my life experience, I request everyone to invest in their children’s education and health. Give maximum time to your children, as this not only improves the economy of the home but also the country.”
His daily practices of “seva” — selfless service — continue to guide his life and serve as a beacon of inspiration to his children, grandchildren, and community. Sohan Singh’s journey is a beautiful example of perseverance, faith, and the enduring strength of family ties.

schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and community ser vice. In addition to being a student, she coaches jiu-jitsu, par ticipates in various spor ts, and volunteers for the Surrey Food Bank. Her work with the Food Bank includes organizing fundraisers, speaking to the community, and raising both money and awareness for those in need. Despite her busy schedule, Emma makes time for her family and values the moments she gets to share with them. Whether it's horseback riding or simply enjoying a meal together, these moments of selfcare are crucial to her overall balance and success.

The roots of Holi are found in Hindu mythology. The festival commemorates the story of Prahlad, a young prince who was devoted to Lord Vishnu despite his father, the demon king Hiranyakashipu, forbidding it. In an attempt to kill Prahlad, Hiranyakashipu ordered his sister Holika, who had a magical power that made her immune to fire, to sit with the boy in a blazing fire. However, due to divine intervention, Holika was consumed by the flames, while Prahlad emerged unharmed. This myth is symbolic of the victory of good over evil, and is celebrated with Holika Dahan, a bonfire ritual on the eve of Holi.
