PICS Society is proud to announce the arrival of a new electric bus, generously funded by the Ministry of Health and Fraser Health.
This eco-friendly initiative is part of British Columbia’s ongoing commitment to sustainable transportation and aims to improve the quality of life for senior residents by offering them more accessible and environmentally-conscious mobility options.
The electric bus, which was initially promised in December 2023, is a significant step forward in making senior transportation more sustainable and accessible. The Ministry of Health, along with the support from the provincial and Canadian governments, has been accelerating the transition to electric transit to reduce carbon emissions while increasing mobility for seniors. The addition of this bus to the PICS Assisted Living Facility will provide residents with greater opportunities to participate in social outings, community activities, and engage more actively with the world around them.
Satbir S. Cheema, President & CEO of PICS Society, expressed his gratitude, saying, “This generous gift will significantly enhance the mobility of our beloved seniors. With the arrival of this electric bus, our residents will have greater opportunities for community engagement and social participation, allowing them to enjoy outings and activities that will enrich their lives.”

Jag Khosa, a dedicated member of the Surrey Police Service, was recently awarded the prestigious King Charles III Coronation Medal in recognition of his outstanding service to the community and commitment to public safety.
The medal was presented in a special ceremony by Raj Chouhan, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, with support from Minister Jagrup Brar. Reflecting on the honor, Khosa expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, calling it a humbling moment in his career.
“This moment isn’t mine alone,” Khosa shared. “It’s made possible by the unconditional support of my family, friends, colleagues, and the community I serve. This honor symbolizes a shared journey.”
The King Charles III Coronation Medal was established to recognize individuals who have shown exemplary service to their communities and made significant contributions to the well-being of others.

The 18th Annual Victor Ghirra Toy Drive, held at Riverside Palace Banquet Hall in Richmond, was a heartwarming success, collecting over 3,000 toys, gift cards, and cash donations. The event brought together generous donors from across Metro Vancouver, united in their mission to spread holiday cheer to families in need. With the rising cost of living and financial hardships affecting many, this year’s drive was a much-needed initiative to ensure that children and families in the community had a brighter holiday season.
The toy drive, which has become a beloved annual event, is held in memory of Victor Ghirra, a man who was known for his compassion and
dedication to philanthropy. The festive gathering was filled with Christmas music, holiday treats, and appearances from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Grinch, who welcomed attendees and posed for photos. More than 200 people participated in the toy count, contributing toys and donations while enjoying the celebratory atmosphere.
This year, the toys collected will be donated to 24 charitable organizations, including BC Children’s Hospital, the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, and Richmond Christmas Fund. The toy drive committee, supported by the Benevolent Brotherhood Society (BBS), Cooperators Insurance, Riverside Banquet Halls, Richmond Sunrise Rotary, and the Kids
Play team, hopes to bring joy and relief to families facing difficult circumstances. Over the years, the drive has gained significant support, with donations continuing to grow each year.
Bobby Ghirra, Victor’s older brother, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support of the toy drive. “It’s truly heartwarming to see so many people come together to honor my brother’s legacy of giving. Victor would be proud to know that his spirit lives on through this drive and the joy it brings to others,” he shared.
Victor Ghirra’s legacy of generosity lives on, particularly through his long-standing support of BC Children’s Hospital. Every holiday season,
Victor anonymously purchased thousands of dollars’ worth of toys and donated them to children in need. His selflessness was evident in the way he quietly made a difference, often telling hospital staff, “It doesn’t matter who I am, these toys are for the kids.”
Although it’s been 18 years since his passing, Victor’s impact continues to be felt through the toy drive, with his story inspiring countless individuals and organizations to give back. “It’s incredible to see how the toy drive has grown and how excited we still get to see all the donations pour in. That’s the gift Victor gave us—to be able to continue bringing joy during the holidays,” said Moya Matick, Agency Office Manager at Cooperators Insurance. Matick and
her team raised over $2,100 in cash and contributed 200+ toys and gift cards to the toy count.
The Richmond Sunrise Rotary group, which has supported the toy drive for a decade, donated $5,500 in cash and toys. “The spirit of Victor Ghirra and the mission of the toy drive aligns perfectly with Rotary’s values of community support,” said Debbie Tablotney, Project Chair of the Richmond Sunrise Rotary. “We are proud to continue this
tradition and help bring joy to families in need.”
Dr. Harpreet Dhillon, owner of Dentist on Kingsway, has also been a long-time supporter of the toy drive. This year, Dr. Dhillon and his family donated $2,000 worth of toys, using the opportunity to teach his children the importance of giving. “Our family is blessed, and it’s important for my children to see how giving back can make a difference,” Dr.
Dhillon explained.
The 24 causes supported by the Victor Ghirra Toy Drive this year include BC Children’s Hospital, the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, Richmond Christmas Fund, and several other community organizations throughout Metro Vancouver, including those in Richmond, Surrey, Langley, and Abbotsford. Since its inception, the toy drive has collected and distributed more than 53,250 toys, providing hope and joy to countless children and families.
Harvey Kooner, founder of the toy drive, emphasized the collective effort that made the event possible. “It’s been a tough year for many families, and our committee, volunteers, and donors have shown that there are still people who care. Thanks to their support, we can continue Victor’s legacy and help 24 worthy causes during this special time of year,” said Kooner.

As a result, the storytelling feels a bit disjointed, relying heavily on Allu Arjun’s charisma and stardom.
The film suffers from what many sequels fall prey to: overindulgence. Several sequences, like the 20-minute kidnapping drama, feel unnecessarily extended, primarily to indulge fans, but at the cost of narrative progression.
Much of the first half is about reasserting Pushpa Raj’s power through repetition of familiar beats, rather than pushing the plot forward. By the second half, however, things start to come together, and the tension picks up, making it more engaging.
