Poole Town Ladies are a Charter Standard Club. For the third season, our first team will be competing in the FA Women’s National League South West Division One. Our first team offers the highest standard of women’s football in Dorset.

The FA WNL South West Division One is equivalent to League Two in the men’s competition. Our reserves compete in the Dorset Women’s League.

Poole Town Ladies vs Verwood Ladies

Poole Town vs Cheltenham Town

After last weeks win the ladies were really looking forward to getting back out on the pitch and showing why they had been in such fantastic form. Last week where they maybe were slightly off pace at the start of the game, they showed the complete opposite this time!

A long awaited home match for Poole again at last!

Within 4 minutes they were 1-0 up, a fantastic run down the left side by Jamie Barrett got her into a great crossing position. A pinpoint cross into the box forced the centre back to deal with it, unfortunately for the defender she turned the ball into her own net.

An underhit pass in the 11th minute as 'keeper Sam Chrippes was forced into a 50/50 confrontation with the opposition striker which unfortunately led to a penalty decision - this was calmly slotted away for a Cheltenham goal. 0-1.

The ladies continued to pile on the pressure however couldn’t find the target again until Hannah Varney went through on goal in the 37th minute and powered the ball into the top corner, leaving the opposing goalkeeper no chance.

The first half action wasn’t finished there however, straight after Verwood took kick off from the second goal they were put under instant pressure. After creating the first goal, Jamie pressurised the left back into an error with a risky back pass to her goalkeeper. Jamie pounced on this and slotted it past the keeper just before she could clear the ball.

A few minutes later and Cheltenham's dynamic midfield movement sprung a player free on the edge of the box. A qaulity finish to the corner lead to a 0-2 lead.

The second half started and Poole started as the dominant force. Some beautiful build up play lead to a steady stream of chances that inched ever closer to that elusive goal. The pressing game was on point meaning that Cheltenham were forced into some nervy mistakes on the ball adding to the growing sense that a goal was coming.

At the start of the second half the ladies were keen to not just sit back on their lead, they wanted to come out and continue their strong performance.

This was evident when a fantastic passing move was finished

by Natalie Harvey in the 54th minute. For 10 minutes after the ladies went 4-0 up Verwood starting stringing some good passes together and threatened to score with some shots that Sonia Horrell did very well to keep out.

In the 68th minute a Jess Fowell corner kick fell to Hannah who smashed the ball past the keeper, getting her second of the game and making it 5-0. Just 5 minutes after her second goal, Hannah seemed to go through on goal again however the opposition brought her down cynically in the box giving the ladies a penalty and a chance to go 5-0 up. Hannah put the ball down on the spot and placed into the bottom left corner, sending the keeper the wrong way and getting her hatrick, the second in two games!

The game started with end to end action and at a frantic pace with counter attacking football at a premium.

However, the character of Poole Town meant this game was far from over with several chances created both on the break and from consistent pressure in the opposition half.

HT: 0-2.

That moment came in the 61st minute as Poole transitioned from deep within their own half to perfection! With crisp two touch passing, Faye Hawkins was set free down the right wing with a thunderous shot into the top corner! 1-2 and well deserved.

With 30 minutes left of the match remaining, Poole continued to fight for that second goal wracking up shot after shot, corner after corner.

Unfortunately it was not to be - despite an absolutely heroic performance.

Belief gives you the ability to get back up after being knocked down. Belief makes champions. Those in attendance against Cheltenham saw that belief. I hope it continues to grow.

This week we are back in cup action This week we are back in cup action, and it's great to be at home again as it has been rare for most of the season so far. We hope to start today as we finished the game last week. We dominated the second half last week and produced a lot of good football. We are constantly driving forward as a team and hope we can bag a win to get to the semi finals!

Main Questions

1. Squad number - number 1

You’re a formidable goal keeper and very talented outfielder, what made you take up the position between the sticks rather than outfield?

I think I used to love throwing myself around in the mud, but I do still love a run out on pitch whenever I get a chance.

2. Nickname Sammi 3. Which team do you support? I'm a Manchester United fan, although over the last few seasons, I have been going to a lot of Southampton games, so I've developed a soft spot for them 4. What’s your favourite food? I love pizza, ham and pineapple is definitely my favourite!

5. What’s your favourite TV show? Match of the day, I'll watch it every weekend without fail.

6. Who’s your sorting idol and why? When he was still playing it was Ryan Giggs, he was a great player and scored some brilliant goals.

7. What’s your greatest sporting achievement? A couple of seasons ago I was chosen to play in the England beach soccer squad, but unfortunately that summer I broke a finger and thumb so couldn't play.

What’s your ambition for the season and beyond ?

It's been tough this season so far for us, I would love for us as a team to progress.

Also to complete my coaching badges to try and gain a different perspective on the teams performances and my own.

What’s your greatest ever save (we know you’ve made an incredible amount of world class saves) and why?

One that sticks in my head is one of our final games last year against Maidenhead in a 0-0 draw. We knew that if they had beaten us they would have gone above us, putting us bottom of the league in danger of being relegated. Their midfielder had a shot just inside the box that would have gone in just inside the post, I somehow managed to get my hand to it putting it out for a corner. I remember Kitty; one of our centre backs at the time celebrating like we had scored a goal.

You’re booked in to complete your goalkeeping coaching badges this year, is this something you want to move into?

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it, there aren't as many female coaches around let alone female goalkeeper coaches. I'm hoping to help the players that are already in the younger age groups as there aren’t as many opportunities for them.

What advice would you give to any aspiring young goalkeepers?

Don't worry about mistakes that are made, everyone makes them, even professional players. As long as you put your all into every game that's all that matters.

Youth Teams

Details for the U15 team • 14th December 2019 The u15 Girls won 2-0 against Wool and Winfrith . Played so well, a complete team performance where they demonstrated great skills and tactical awareness. Goalscorers were Holly and Summer.

• 4th January 2020 U15 Girls won 5-1 at Dorchester. Another complete performance, so much quality on the ball.

Excellent all round team performance. Goalscorers were Kady 1 and Leah 4 • 11th January 2020 The U15 girls put in another fantastic team performance again drawing 2-2 with Redlands Rebels, who had previously won all 7 matches. Should of won it really hit the post twice and their GK made 3 great saves.Goalscorer’s were Poppy and Kady.

Details for the U18 team • Some brilliant football on display in recent matches and the progression the players are making is amazing - so much so, that we are starting to see a number breaking into our FA Women’s National League side which is testament to the superb development path in place at the club.

Young Girls Teams We are looking to set up the following age groups: • U7 - School Years 1 and 2 • U9 - School Years 3 and 4 • U11 - School Years 5 and 6 All sessions are delivered by FA qualified coaches, providing a safe place for girls to try football for the first time and develop key skills. Our ethos is for girls to have fun, make new friends and enjoy playing football.

Training will take place on Saturday mornings at Haymoor Junior School 10-11.30, commencing 21st September.
