Match review vs Chesham

Broadstone Ladies Vs Poole Town Ladies

Things started brightly in another away game for Poole town against Chesham United. Early pressure in the game was all from Poole town with Chesham being unable to escape their own half. 11 minutes in a decent delivery into the box lead to a penalty as the keeper became tangled with Faye Hawkins. Sacha Paynter cooly slotted away to give a much deserved lead. Soon after, under sustained attacks, the Chesham keeper was sent off for a second yellow card offence.

In one of the few early breaks, Chesham managed to show their quality with a strike from outside of the box finding the bottom corner to get the equaliser in the 18th minute. The game became more even with both keepers having to be alert and sweep up probing balls behind.

Chesham gained the upper hand with another strike from outside of the box being placed with perfect accuracy into the bottom corner in the 29th minute.

Things remained even for the rest of the half as both teams showed character and commitment with good football on display.

Early in the second half, Chesham got a 3rd from outside of the box.

Poole continued to fight and racked up corner after corner, but could not quite find the back of the net.

A late chance fell to Faye Hawkins who sprung the offside trap, however the replacement keeper stayed tall and strong to deny what would have been a deserved goal.

Final score 3-1 to Chesham.

About U

Poole Town Ladies are a Charter Standard Club. For the third season, our first team will be competing in the FA Women’s National League South West Division One. Our first team offers the highest standard of women’s football in Dorset.

The FA WNL South West Division One is equivalent to League Two in the men’s competition. Our reserves compete in the Dorset Women’s League.

Going into this game on a 9 game unbeaten streak the ladies seemed confident and ready to start 2020 with a bang with a win away to Broadstone.

It didn’t all go to plan though when the home side went 1-0 up from a free kick from just outside the box 10 minutes into the game. The ladies maybe not fully in this game just yet went 2-0 down in the 17th minute from another stunning free kick. This goal maybe kickstarted the team forcing them to playing some fast paced attacking football to get back into the game. A lovely placed finish from Jess Fowell brought them back into the game and a goal from Maddy Kemp levelled the game.

HT: 2-2 In the second half the ladies came out with some real intent to perform better than they did in first half, this was shown when a quick fire brace from Erin Blake put Poole 2-4 up. After this they played very professional football, keeping possession away from their opponents with short quick passes. As the game was coming to a close a great pass from Jess played in Krystal Bishton who calmly slotted her shot past the goal keeper. This put an ending to a fantastic second half display from the ladies!

Another close result against another top team.

Another close result against another top team. The points are coming. I am increasingly proud of the character that the team shows on a weekly basis and the progress is there for all eyes to see. The only thing missing is a result and that will come. I’m sure we’ll soon have those points that our performances deserve.

We are all in the mindset that we will keep working hard 2019 at Poole Town was a mix of emotions it's been so much fun on and off the field but the points just haven't come yet. We are now in 2020 and able to have more in depth training including classroom based sessions, to help build and grow as a team. We are all in the mindset that we will keep working hard and enjoying ourselves and the points will flood in during this 2020 part of the campaign. We hope to prove ourselves today.

You’re renown for enjoying your travelling - what the favourite place you’ve visited and why?

Recently I went to America for 2 weeks and visiting Niagara Falls was amazing in terms of natural places, but the city of San Francisco was my favourite. It had a great atmosphere with so much to see, cycling over the Golden Gate Bridge was a massive highlight for me!

I like all food so hard to pick one, anything from Greggs though!

Probably completing the Sandbanks sprint triathlon in the summer

Where are you planning to go for your next adventure?

I’m currently working my way round every country in Europe, so it will more than likely be a city break to some obscure country.

You’re an avid cyclist - which do you prefer football or cycling?

An impossible question to answer because I love them both for very different reasons.

What’s your greatest football achievement to date?

Scoring a goal against Watford in the FA cup a few years ago What are your aspirations for the season ?

Youth Teams

Details for the U15 team • 14th December 2019 The u15 Girls won 2-0 against Wool and Winfrith . Played so well, a complete team performance where they demonstrated great skills and tactical awareness. Goalscorers were Holly and Summer.

• 4th January 2020 U15 Girls won 5-1 at Dorchester. Another complete performance, so much quality on the ball.

Excellent all round team performance. Goalscorers were Kady 1 and Leah 4

Details for the U18 team • Some brilliant football on display in recent matches and the progression the players are making is amazing - so much so, that we are starting to see a number breaking into our FA Women’s National League side which is testament to the superb development path in place at the club.

Young Girls Teams We are looking to set up the following age groups: • U7 - School Years 1 and 2 • U9 - School Years 3 and 4 • U11 - School Years 5 and 6 All sessions are delivered by FA qualified coaches, providing a safe place for girls to try football for the first time and develop key skills. Our ethos is for girls to have fun, make new friends and enjoy playing football.

Training will take place on Saturday mornings at Haymoor Junior School 10-11.30, commencing 21st September.
